Torrent-class Arsenal Ship
*pic near bottom*

Some military analysts say that the arsenal ship is the path naval warfare is taking; impersonal strikes from tens if not hundreds of miles away, en masse with missiles. The arsenal ship is a behemoth of a ship, hauling hundreds of surface to surface, surface to air, and anti-shipping missiles in her expansive interior. She carries a capability no other ship has... The capability to bring a nation to its knees within minutes. The Torrent-class arsenal ship can accomplish that quite proficiently, being able to lob well over a thousand missiles at a target(s). A thousand cruise missiles or surface-to-surface missiles will do plenty of damage to an opponent, as would a debilitating strike on an enemy fleet, courtesy of the anti-shipping missiles this ship can hold. The Torrent-class holds true to her name, having the ability to release the unstoppable torrents of missiles that will strike fear into any nation's leadership.

Armament
Like most other arsenal ships, the Torrent-class carries hundreds of VLS tubes, more on the order of 1300 VLS tubes.
However, unlike most arsenal ships, the Torrent-class carries a few other armament systems, which are listed below...

2x 8" SB-GMA-80 ETC Guns (medium range shore bombardment)
4x SB-MMA-12 eight missile SAM rotary platform, networked with CIWS and the Jericho system.
18x SB-GMC-150 CIWS systems (Six are mounted with the Jericho system's laser mounts)

The Torrent-class, with its 1300 VLS tubes can fire anything from anti-shipping missiles to cruise missiles and from unguided or guided surface to surface missiles to surface to air missiles. It can carry any combination of those as well as ballistic missiles (if one VLS 'pack' of 100 missiles is removed and replaced with a different system allowing their launch). The 1300 VLS tubes are divided up into 13 SB-VLM-100 vertical launch sub-systems. Six of those are located aft of the small deck-level conning station. The other seven are located forward of the conning station, two rows of three with a seventh towards the bow. CIWS systems are located all along the ship and can be retracted into the ship's superstructure. The two 8 inch guns are located one gun aft and one gun near the bow, both guns are able to be retracted below deck. The four SB-MMA-12 SAM systems are located two forward and two aft, both are retractable.

Also, in addition to the weapons mentioned above, the Torrent-class has a helicopter or VTOL landing pad and can accomodate up to four helicopters or VTOL aircraft in a hangar located at the rear of the conning station.

Ship Design
The ship was designed to provide maximum firepower while still providing a stealthy design. The decision was made to go with a long and slightly slender design, low to the water. She was also given double hulls and extensive side and top armor. She also has little to no structure to the top, except the small conning station (and, if all weapons are raised, CIWS and the guns). She was also designed to slip through the water effortlessly, reducing wake as well as noise generated.

Another design feature of the Torrent-class is her ability to be submerged. She has lines of flood-able compartments and ballast tanks lining her underside and sides, meaning, she can submerge herself as well as propel herself underwater and speeds up to 10 knots (maximum speed). Her depth is limited, however, to 200 feet.

Stealth
To create as small of a target as possible, the Torrent-class was built to be stealthy. Her low stature in the water, he relatively thin beam, and the absence of antennae and other structures on her deck adds to her stealthiness. Her hull is also coated in radar absorbant material and all of her gun mounts (CIWS and 8" cannons) as well as her SAM mounts can be retracted.

She also has the ability to be submerged (stated above), meaning she can submerge a few compartments to where she's just above the water and then unleash hell on some enemy (firing hundreds of missiles), then quickly dropping below the waves...

Armor

The Torrent-class uses a heavy layer of hardened titanium for the outer layer, followed by a layer of honeycombed aluminum followed by another layer of hardened titanium. Beyond that is an extensive layer of ceramics (with kevlar fiber) followed by kevlar-reinforced steel. A layer of super-dense plastic follows that. And the final layer is a 150mm plate of steel for catching any fragments and preventing them from reaching the internal area of the ship.

Armor thickness:
Belt: 970mm
Deck: 450mm (basically the same as the rest of the hull only thinner)
Conning station: 600mm (same as hull, only thinner)

Sensors, Radar, Systems, etc.

AMRQ-S4 Fleet Radar System-

AMRQ-R77 Fleet Three Dimensional Radar- The AMRQ-R77 is the most advanced 3D radar in the ARSB inventory, capable of finding and tracking targets as they appear over the horizon. The AMRQ-R77 is run by the ASQ-S13 radar management system, giving it the ability to cycle through dozens of frequencies in one minute, making this a system incredibly hard to jam.

AMRQ-M90 Fleet Multi-Function Radar- The AMRQ-M90 is a medium range, multi-frequency multi-function radar, capable of detecting surface and aerial threats.

AMRQ-R87 S-Band Solid State Search Radar- The AMRQ-R87 is a medium to long-range solid state search radar, capable of locating and tracking hundreds of airborne objects.

AMRQ-V10 Volume Search Radar

AJRQ-J31 Active Jamming/Deception

ANRL-U14 ESM

ALQ-S14 Laser Network System (laser systems in the CIWS mounts, used for tracking and designating aircraft)

The second portion of the laser system is a series of 'nodes' which are basically composed of the same tracking systems found on laser-guided bombs. These 'nodes' pick up the laser beams and find their targets, cross-referencing that data with satellite, radar, and infrared data to come up with coordinates, which are then sent to the Jericho system's main hub, which then distributes that information to the missiles as they are in flight with periodic updates to target.

The IRSQ-I40 is an all-around infrared targetting system, taking a real-time view of the sky and converting into a picture. Its computer system targets objects emitting heat after the computer quickly runs through a database and compares it to other heat signatures, confirming it is a fighter, bomber, transport, etc.

The ISTQ-I76 is an infrared search and track, which uses the IRSQ-I40 as a base and combines it with another infrared reciever, which locates and tracks thermal signatures from extreme ranges.

TCQ-S90 is the fire control system, using all the above data in computing and preparing targets for engagement.
ALMRS/TTAC-90Mk. II is the system that connects all of this to the ARSB Defensive Network, meaning it can use any sensory data from any ARSB unit across the planet in targetting and firing upon enemy units or structures.

Survivability
Multiple functions are present in the Torrent-class that give her unrivaled survivability... They include:
-Double hull
-Ability to Submerge
-Extensive Armor
-Vast array of floodable compartments and extensive flood-controlling systems (and pumps to pump out water)
-Extensive, automated freon fire extinguishing system
-Armor bulkheads between VLS tubes, even heavier bulkheads between seperate VLS 'batteries'
-Series of cylindrical compartments along each side designed to contain the blast of an anti-shipping missile or hit from a naval gun
-All electronics are hardened from EMP

Power
Power for the Torrent-class is achieved from two SB-RCV-5 pressurized water reactors as well as two SB-GVN-9 diesel generators to power systems.

Specifications
Power Plant- Two Nuclear Power Plant (SB-RCV-5 Pressurized Water Reactor)
Four shafts, Four propellers, with five blades each as well as four azipods ( 360 degree rotating water-jets)

[I'm going to be kinda critical with this design. First, I don't see any armour specs, and with a ship like this armour is critical. Second, I think you have the draft about right, but the dimensions seem a little off. Third, VLS can't launch ballistic missiles, it can't even launch the large Russian ASCMs. Finally, I'd go with medium-range shore bombardment guns, something like a pair of 8" ETC.]

OOC- Dammit. CR, why didn't you tell me I forgot armor... Gah, oh well. I'll get to work on it.

When I said it could launch ballistic missiles, I meant after modification. The VLS 'packs' are removable and can be replaced with larger tubes designed to fire ballistic missiles.

Now... About dimensions. Comparing the actual design to the picture, yes, they're off. Its a matter of convenience. I couldn't find any that closely resembled my design so I went with that pic. I was way too lazy to design my own.

As for the guns... Your suggestion has been noted and will probably replace the current 155mm. I shoved those on there in the event I couldn't find anything better and I didn't really bother looking for any gun specs.

Other than that... Thanks.

Confirmed... One Torrent-class will cost you 1.14 billion USD. So, I don't think you can afford much more after that. Especially considering how much this thing is going to cost to outfit it with missiles.

But, since this is the first sale of this ship, we will sell you the ship with its full missile complement of 350 PAC-56A cruise missiles (land attack), 150 PAC-56S (anti-shipping), 600 SS-NN-98 surface-to-surface missiles, and 200 AAM-50S surface to air missiles.

Those do not count weapons in the SAM rotational batteries. Ammunition for the CIWS and 8in. guns will be included.

Jangle Jangle Ridge, your order is confirmed. One hundred vessels will take an astonishingly long time to complete. At three vessels per NS year, it'll take roughly 33 NS years. However, we will offer you limited production rights to build them yourself, which means, in the end, it'll take about 16 years to build all one hundred vessels.

We thank JJR for the added money and it shall be put to good use. However, you might reconsider the money after you realize how much money it'll cost to outfit one hundred vessels with full missile complements.

Greetings, friend nation Soviet Bloc.

The Republic of Sharina found the Torrent Arsenal Ship very satisfying. We would like to put forth a proposal.

We would like to purchase LIMITED production rights. We will not sell any Torrent ships to other nations, and also, we could become an additional source of labor and ship production in times of crisis.

We would like the Torrent Arsenal Ships to become our artillery class of naval vessels, and we would use these ships purely for defense.

We would be glad to hear from your nation regarding our proposal.

I would be interested in production rights. I don't want sales rights though, I don't really need them. And I still give you the money. I understand the prices for the missiles, and am quite willing to outfit it. I have actually had many technological developments when I thought of your Electro-Thermal Chemical cannon in the ST-11. Other applications for the technology, in the area of plasma weapons.

Greetings once again, friend nation.

We are grateful for your willingness to sell us a limited production license. We shall honor the license, by not selling any of our nationally produced Torrents to other nations. We have plans to develop an industry devoted to the Torrent class, by building parts, munitions, and shipbuilding equipment for Torrent class and Torrent variants of naval vessels.

Once we get the industry up and running, we would be more than happy to provide your nation with surplus of these goods.

We shall put down a down payment of 3 billion dollars, then pay you 1 billion dollars over the next 17 years. As our population and GNP increases, we would be more than willing to increase our payments to 1.5 or 2 billion per year.

Would this be an agreeable payment plan?

Sharina appreciates your friendship and willingness to allow us to build our own Torrent class naval vessels.
