Medieval RP. - Only 6 places to be filled!
Tithians

This RP is dealing with a small continent, it's politics, and it's military affairs. 6 small nations reside on this continent, all of them vie for supremacy.
These nations are -
Pelon : The Pelonai are the northenmost tribe, with many warriors, a decent food supply (hunting), but an abysmal lack of tactics and technology.
Politics are virtually unknown, and hideous sacrifices are made each year to the Pelonai high priest. If you choose the Pelonai, here is what you will be doing/using.
-Ruling over a people of about 50,000
- Rping as either the Warlord or the high priest.
- Commanding an army of abut 20,000
- Using weapons fashioned from bone, and sometimes stone
Yrrk : The Yrrkon live in a basin, filled with many rivers, giving the Yrrkon bountiful harvests each year. The Yrrkon have a reasonable sized army(in comparison to others), but are completely unused to tactics, fighting, because their army is used to drive off bandits. The Yrrkon have a democratic-like system, where one leader every one-hundred men is elected, and these men elect one leader out of all the elected men (300). This leader then selects the head of religion, philosophy, war and civil unrest. Yrrkon is directly south from Pelon, which causes them to send rare fruits, vegetables and other rare foods up to the priesthood, causing a continued peace. If you choose to play as the Yrrkon, then you will be -
- Ruling over a people of about 170,000
- Rping as the head of war, religion and the grand leader. You may also RP as philosophy and civil unrest if you wish.
- Commanding a relatively untrained, unseasoned army of 8,500
- Being the richest nation on the continent, due to the virtuallt inexhaustable food supply.
Alair - The Alairon reside in Alair, a mountain range. They are the second richest nation, due to the many mineral deposits in their mountain range.
They have advanced technology, giving them crossbows, ballistae, and many siege engines. They are also the only race to have mastered alchemy, and this gives them a severe advantage when mining. For the most part, the alchemy is just simply explosives (gunpowder etc). These people have an extremely small army, but rely on their heavily fortified city, Arala, to defend them from any invader. If you choose to play as the Alairon you will -
- RP as the council of 7
- Command a people of about 12,000
- Command an army of about 750
- Gain access to advanced technologies, and be able to invent you're own, within the boundaries of nongodmodding
Reer - The Reers are the most numerous people, as they occupy half of the continent. They are loosely organised by a feudal system, but considering half the people ignore the lords, and try to steal from them, this system is in shambles. The 'military' barely exists, but the priesthood can generally control a decent number of people, and this is usually used to grab 'tithes' to feed the priests and keep them in the lap of luxury. If you choose to play as the Reers you will
- RP as either the King or the High ArchCardinal
- Rule a people of aobut 350,000
- Have to organise you're army bit by bit
- Be pretty poor, as virtual anarchy does not bring in taxes
- Have very loose control over you're people, as even when you are commanding them, they have no strong sense of loyalty.
Yara - The Yaranai are by far, the weirdest nation there is. They rule by a nation lottery, with the ruler ruling for 5 weeks, and then being thrown into prison if he did a bad job. The Yaranai are a pacifist nation, so they don't have an army. They are poor, weird, and have no military strength. But their intelligence corps is the fines in the world, being able tofind out ANYTHING.
If you choose to play as the Yara
- Command 50,000 people
- Have a GREAT intelligence corps
- Have a truly weird ruling system
Tonton - The tontontonton are a people who live out on the open plains. They are exceptional fighters, who hire themselves out to the highest bidder. They rule the plains, with any other member of any other nation being killed on sight, with the exception of peddlers, bards and children.
If you play as the Tonton, you choose to -
Rule 12,000 exceptional fighters, as EVERYONE fights, the women, the children, near enough everyone.
Find parts of you're army deserting, when they are paid a decent amount of money.
Be ruled by the strongest fighter, which doesn't mean you're ruler will be intelligent.
All in all, the six nations are widely varied. All I ask for is
- People to join this RP.
- Playing IC
- No godmodding/godmoding
Thanks and have fun!

The printing press was invented in Arala (thispost was much longer, 2 pages but selected all and bumped delete..)
It has brought into being, a number of new laws. Such as trade documents being required to enter Arala, printed notes in exchange for gold, and identification papers. The council of seven has not yet verified these laws, but it is almost certain they will.
(feel free to post information about you're nation, we need 6 to start Rpnig properly anyway..)

OK. Here's the plan.
You give me Military Protection.
You give me Money (we're poor.).
You help me make an Army, so your military protection will not be used.
You help me get Weapons for my New Army.
All this, I give you Intelligence (we know almost everything).

But you can't have an army, being pacifists. So by sending my pitch to the tontons, you get as close as you can. Or you can just secretely fund splinter militant groups inside your nation, which I can help insite. Anyways, though, I can do those four things, But I specifically need you to do what I suggested, because that's the kicker.

OOC: Granted, we fight for who pays us, but I do have some say in the matter.
IC:Here’s some information on my civilization.
People say the Tontoni are born in the saddle. They learn to ride even as they learn to walk. On foot they are just great warriors, but mounted on their swift horses, these men are simply amazing. Each fighter is trained with a bow which they can fire with perfect accuracy from a horse at full gallop. For close fighting they carry lances and long swords and wear chainmail. They are nomadic, following their horses from grazing land to grazing land, and will sell their services to the highest bidder. They are loyal to clan first, then to their chieftan, chosen because he is the strongest warrior and can only be removed from power if he steps down or is killed, in battle or single combat. It takes a strong hand indeed to keep these fierce clans from fighting each other and thus the life of mercenaries. Greed is a great unifying force. Their current leader, a man named Hallas is a dark eyed, dark haired man of six feet, quite tall for his people.

Of course. All I'm saying is that, likely, they won't be very bound under a leader who is chosen completely by strength(no insult to you, just RP-wise), and they're a nomadic people, who work for what they can get, rather then a moral attachment to certain theories, etc.

Tribal makeup of the Tontons:
Made up of 4 tribes of roughly 3,000 each (It wouldn't be exactly like that but for efficiency's sake, I'll make them even.)
The Alanni, led by Gorlas
The Sannoi, led by Cenwic
The Finwyrs, led by Kaelin
The Landovi, led by Artos
You'd want to approach these guys if you're lookin to bribe Tontons since these are family units and if you approach them on a smaller scale their not likely to desert kin.

Reerians are not loyal at all, however if they are attacked will fight as an individual. The army isnt an army, just a loose band of individual warriors who will fight for Reer. There is no chain of command. No orders they fight how they see fit. They are guerrillas. However the will listen to there village priests. They are devout Catholics to the end and past.

Three groups leave Yrrk, at the same time. One is a diplomatic group, headed to Alair. Another is a high-bred, yet all around nice guy of an emisarry, name Gerry, with a troupe of expert musicians as a gift to the Tontons, who is to give the pitch of vast amounts of wealth. The last group is composed of some happy citizens of Yrrk, bodygaurds, a politician, some fliers, and money. The bodygaurds were picked to defend against almost anything, as they were going to the wildcard nation of Reer, to encourage citizens to move their people to Yrrk, as they would be provided a free plot of land, and to join the Yrrk military, as the wages were quite plump. A telegram was sent to Yara by Hawk, asking for a meeting to discuss the creation of Yaran defenses.

OOC: One question, how do we know what a lot of money would be? I mean, we know who the richest is, but don't really have anything to measure the money against... If we don't have a standard, this could get difficult.
IC: Shortly after entering the vast steppe, Gerry and his troop awake one morning to find their camp surrounded by horsement, spears pointing inward. One rides forward and dismounts, a chieftan by the gold torc around his neck. He regards the bards and the emessary for a moment, then fixes his dark, piercing eyes on Gerry and says, "There aren't many foolish enough to enter our lands uninvited..."

Sorry about me not being here, but the net was down for almost a week...
Ok. The Richest nation, as in the Yrrk, are rich primarily beccause of their continous harvest, each year, every year. Ill make an average income in gold coins.
Yrrk - 200,000 GC (this is to the government)
Alair - 125,000 GC (taxes) the problem here, is, most of this money is spent on the people, the farming, and other important factors in your army. A Tonton costs about 1 GC per day, so, spending you're taxes that way..
Tonton - 50,000 GC
Reers - 35,000 GC
Yaranai - 15,000 GC
Yrrk has the most standard income, and has a large treasury of about 1,000,000 GC.
Alair has a smaller income, but sometimes has massive mining lodes found, and thereby, more taxes.
TonTon's main taxes come from hired warriors, who all generally pay their taxes
The Reers 'taxes' are generally tithes payed to the priests.
The Yaranai have a very poor nation, but, there is always money from tax-payers. G2G, damn

Alairan troops, engineers and other assorted people involved in construction, have moved to all the passes, beginning construction of fortifications, digging wells, and generally preparing for a siege. The occasional cannon was brought up, as soon as a fort was secure. The council of Seven has began deliberations on whether to make alliances, or sit in their mountain fortresses and cultivate Shraak mushrooms. They decided to send an emissiary to the Yrrkish government, to ask for a steady supply of food in exchange for one of their secrets.. The secret of making liquid explosives. These explosives, although not very powerful, can blast a large amount of stone away, making it perfect for catapults to hurl. They also sent an emissiary to the Reers, knowing, that if they gave the Reers the secret of the printing press, the Reers would become virtually unstoppable. Sorry about the lack of map, I was drawing one up, but my hard drive was infected with a virus just before the net went down, and I had to delete everything to try and get rid of it. I will try verbal description. To the northern, cold wastelands (not northern enough to be icy) the feral peoples of the Pelon roam.
On the bottom half of the continent, the Reers live. In a mountain range, virtually splitting the continent in half, live the Alairon, who mostly live in great fortresses, and underground. To the west, lie the Yrrkon, who grow many lush plants in their fertile basin (the Yrrkon have a severe tactical disadvantage) A few small passes mark the border between Yrrk and Reer.
To the east, lie the Tonton, who inhabit the lightly forested highland, and train until their swords lie blunt. And the Yara, who inhabit the outside of a harbour-like sea inlet, where they rule themselves, in their own strange way.
Lessr Tsurani. Considering you started that Belgariad RP, and did quite nicely in it, you can have my new race.. the Mysidia.
--- Race Description ---
The Mysidians rule a small archipeligo, to the west of Yrrk. They are the only race who posses good seafaring abilities, and their fishing skills remain unchallanged. They are a relatively unadvanced race, who only use spears, bows and clubs for warfare and hunting. They have an elaborate law system, where justice almost always prevails. They rule the seas, and, as such, have more bounty then most.
Information ---
45,000 People
Fastest ships, low technology
Army Size - 3,500
No trade with other countries except Alair
The Alair trade with them because they know how to extract fish oil form fish, and this is quite a valuable substance for the Alair.

IC The King of Mysidia sat on his throne in the Palace. He stood listening to a boring speech made by a merchent who had cheated one of the dock men into paying well under a quarter of the price. This speech was about how he had no idea he was cheating the man, how sorry he was, but he could not afford to pay the money back at this time. King Arkyla laughed at the lat comment.
"So what you are saying, is that even though you saved at least 3 quarters of the price of docking, you can't afford to pay it?" He asked. His voice was deep, and had a type of Arthoroty to it that was in all sea captins. He narrowed his eyes.
"I don't belive you, for that you must pay his the price you owe, plus you must pay him what you already have. Next time pay the price the haorbor man issues. He sighed. "I would stay gentle men, but the time grows late. I say good day to you all. He then stood and left the room via a door to the left of him. Once he was through he took off one of the state robes and then his crown he cluched in one hand. He loved this place.

Artos spun, wielding a sword in each hand. He gave himself to his swordplay, fighting like a man possessed. His opponent, a young man who had foolishly challenged him for leadership of the Landovi, one of the Tontonic tribes. His oponent's swords flashed in the light, fear was written on the man's face. Artos moved faster, the battle fury was on him and his enemy's wepons seemed to move slowly. Artos easily parried each thrust, blocked each slash, dancing back just out of reach before striking again. The challenger already bled from a dozen small wounds.
"Yield!" Artos shouted at him over the clashing of their swords.
"Never!" shouted the man.
Now Artos decided to finish it. He knicked the man's wrist, causing him to drop one of his swords. Artos spon, parried and struck. His opponent stared down blankly at the sword sticking in his chest before sinking to the gound. Artos turned and walked out of the wooded clearing where they practiced. He looked down the hill onto the plain and saw a band of mounted warriors rideing toward them. The man at their head could only be Hallas, only he rode with such abandon, as if he were part of his horse. The riders surrouned another group, obviously not warriors. Artos turned and shouted, "Hallas is returning, and we've got company!"
Hallas rode hard to get home, driving the harpers and Gerry hard, far harder than they were used to riding. Hallas liked to keep guests a little out of their comfort zone.

Taxes tend not to be implemented, as that could place the king as being a 'bad ruler', and thereby thrown into prison. What little revenue the country aquires is through either payment for their intelligence service, or the king implementing some actual money making scheme.
Alair sent an emissiary to the Yaran king. He offered 3,500 GC a year, and the secret of forging steel alloys, and the like, for the use of the Yaran spy service (Hawiian Islands, I know it is a horrible deal, but I am playing IC here..) The Alairans knew they must prepare for war, as they were one of the less war-like nations. They had their advantages, but, if any of their major food supplies were gone, they would virtually starve. This was their one major weakness, and, as such, they could not let anyone exploit it. They began sending out buyers to the Yrrkish lands, making sure they bought as much storable food as possible. The Council of Seven had decided to ally with Yara for a reason. They needed at least one ally. They needed not military strength, as the mountains were near-impetrenable, except to the spies, who may open the great gates. The food they could gather, was of use from Yrrk, but Yara had more to offer them. The information on how to defend, vshut themselves in their mountains, and begin their grand plan on taking over the continent. The mountain fortifications began to fill with foodstuffs, and emissiarys declaring peace, and friendship with the other nations. Ugh, sorry aobut the bad RP, but I really am short on time.

The other four clan leaders have come forward to meet the guests. Hallas and his troops dismount and the four chiefs step forward and regard the newcomers with suspicion. Hallas speaks a moment in his own tongue, gestering at the group. The others nod and Hallas turns.
"Well, we will hear your offer, make it to our liking, for you are neither a bard nor a merchant and so if you don't offer us something we want." he spreads his hands helplessly, "Otherwise you've nothing we want, and useless trespassers don't tend to last long here...." his eyes are like ice and he smiles grimly.

The Council of Seven, although relatively untested in matters of war and the like, didi admirably, when funding for weapons were requested. They knew that this continent was theirs, by divine right to rule, however, a few problems stood in their way. These, were al the other nations. Technological advantage had never given them much advantage in war, as a gun took far to long to load, and was harder to aim. A cannon was useful, but really only as a siege engine. Armor and swords were cheap to manufactre, but to what use, when there were no arms to wield them. They knew re-taking the continent was what they had been destined for, but they had no real way to do it. They had no army size advantage, food advantage, information advantage, and technology alone was not enough. The Mysidians, now there was an ally they desperately needed. Quick, useful sea transport could let them make lighting raids upon the other nations, and throw them into anarchy.
OOC: This is IC, so finding out the council's plans and assassinating them could change everything. (though you would have to RP it well :P0
The council deliberated, until Theolidrus, the most strong-willed of the seven, cried out in dismay. Hear ye, weak-minded cowards, we are truly born to rule this land of our forefathers, and rule it ALL we shall. Those of ye who do not wish to follow me to greatnest and glory, hear me now. All of ye who do NOT follow, will be remembered as foolish widows, unable to make a simple decision, ye will be scorned by thy friends, family and foes alike. We have the means to attain our destiny, shall we sit here like old women while it passes and is gone!? Hear me, Council of Seven (and you could clearly hear the derison in his voice) we SHALL go to war, or we shall sit here and ROT!
The Council were almost instantly transformed. Transfixed by his speech, they cheered, and all agreed with him. How they would regret that decision later.
Swords were forged, steel alloys were made, making cannon, axes, arrows and more. Money was spent in vast quantities to finance this war. An emissiary was sent to Yrrk, Reer, and Pelon. These emissiaries asked for a private meeting within the halls of Alteriea, a sacred site atop of a mountian. They said they had something of vital importance to discuss, but Alteriea was the only place which could make mens minds clear, and decisions easier to be made. (OOC: No Im not planning to kill all the leaders, as that would be futile, and get three nations against me, Im simply planning to try and make agreements, taking over the world through politics)
Another emissiary was sent to the Mysidian Leader, as they wished to talk with him. Nar, the Third of Seven would be sent to speak with him if he granted an audience.
OOC: The 'war' effort is mostly a coverup, it is being used to help disguise some more important things. Also, the council arguing about war, is simply because one member of the council feels that way, and he is very eloquent.

OOC Ok, I have the income thing, but you did not answer me. Can I use a substance that is made from a mix of wood, oils and boiled leather? It is something I have seen and it is like a metal, as you can use it against a steel sword for a while, but it is lighter. It would be useful for making boats. Also, can we use Axes instead of clubs? Just becasue most would know how to weild them becasue of the fact they cut trees for boats.
IC Arkyla sat in his council chamber. THe Embassy stood in front of him.
"Hmm, and what Would your council be willing to give us for this help? It would mean we would have to commit ships from our defences, and that would mean we could be vunrable. So, we need something in return." He then picked up a cup of ale and took a sip.

Cannon. The emissiary replied. The cannon would make you're ships virtually invunerable, against the enemy ships who would have to rely on catapult, which take up more room, and have less power. We would give you...
The emissiarys deliberations continued on into the night

Arkyla sat up when the cannon was uttered. He listened to what the man told him, and he smiled. "You have it, I will help, but I will not endanger my people, should our enemies try to attack us, I will have to concentrate on defence." He looked at the man. "You understand we require certine things that come from this island. Also, your men will not set foot apon this island with weapons, for we will not allow you to rest here, only restock. Is this ok with you?" He asked. He was unused to Polotics, being fairly remote from the world.

The emissiary smiled. "very well, he said, the deal is struck". "just one more thing, do NOT engage in alliances that deal with our enemies..."
Your seafaring, our fortresses, our combined power make us virtually invincible. We ask permission to take control of about 13 transport ships, and about 7 or 8 frigates. We will then begin coastal raids upon Yrrk, and bring them to their knees. When that is done with, fully two-fifths of the profits shall be yours... We have men ready to embark at an island, a full 750. We also ask for supplies to be loaded onto these boats... "
The emissiary produced a document, which read as the following-
The nations of Alair and Mysidia shall share technologies and goods, the primary goods being exchanged will be cannon and ships. The nations shall wage no war upon each other, and this alliance will only be broken when one nation can produce a good reason for it. Mutual military support up to the size of 1/12 of the nation's army shall be provided to the other in times of dire need, when the nation in question is under heavy attack. No other support shall be pledged, but trade with the other nation will take precedence over much-alike trade deals with any other nation.
Signed - The Council of Seven -
Myrarhh
As the king (I am assuming you're king reads it) read the letter, 12 sparkling new canno were wheeled into the room..
Back in Alair, the Council continued to deliberate. Theolidrus had, unknown to them all, already prepared, forged other council member's signatures, and made sure that war would be inevitable, thereby forcing the council's hand in the matter. The little the Council knew, was that the war preperations were because the Pelon were (supposedly) declaring war, the alliance with Mysidia was (supposedly) for exploration of other continents.. Theolidrus was happy. He had nearly achieved his goals. As long as noone interfered, the Council would be forced into war, thereby launching an assault of Yrrk, taking the foods, and throwing havoc across the land. Once the fertile harvests of Yrrk were gone, the lack of food would let him rule the Yrrkish peasants. He could then use their loyalty to take control of the council, by ruling Yrrk. He would then declare himself Emperor of the Myrrh continent, making his power unrivalled. He certainly had no intention of turing ANY power over to those ..fools on the Council. He believed the combined wealth of Alair and Yrrk would let him buy the Tonton, using them to destroy the Pelon, leaving both nations vulnerable. Reer had no power to resist him, as they were not organised. He smiled, thinking he had just about covered everyone. The Mysidians would be satified with their boats, the Yrrkon, Tonton and Pelon were easily dealt with. The Reers posed no threat. He smiled again, knowing that his plans were nearly perfect (yes, I forgot one nation on purpose..)
He went to bed with a satisfied smile, he had much to do... tomorrow

Hallas steps forward with his sword drawn and places it against Gerry's throat. "I'm awaiting your answer...."

Arkyla smiled. He was no fool, the whole plan they had relied on his ships, he was going to make sure he made what he was entitled to.
"I am sorry my friend, BUt two fifths of the Profits? I think half of the pillage. I am no fool, if I take only the profits, then I have to cover the costs with them. Plus You need my ships more than that little amount, because without my ships, This plan is usless. So, you have my offer, I want half of the entire Pillage, including the part that is not profit, take the deal or leave it." He smiled at the Ideas. One word said differently could have ruined him, and the fact he noticed would earn him more.

Damn, replied the emissiary. "Half of the plunder, dammit, he replied, quickly sketching up another agreement and giving to a scribe, telling him to "go put this in print, and make several copies"
He smiled " you are a smart one, but are you smart enough to survive the oncoming wars, that is the question"....
The cannon were left on the floor, e'en as the emissiary left, the cannon shone brightly..

Yara creates Cheap soldiers.
The war is about to begin. All Yaranai citizens are in fear of what is about to happen to them. The ruler, Greg, has anounced a cheap military training program of spies to relieve the feared citizens.
Gregory sighs for the first time,"We need to start up some business negoation using our best intelligence. Something that can let us get rich and get a better Military Training to defend ourselves." Greg sighs again.
Suddenly a messager comes to alert Greg,"Ruler, your highness, men coming our way! Men with big cannons, sharp spears, and lots of food!"
"WHAT?!" Greg screaming out. "Why didn't our spies see this?"
"They were out of their position. Besides, there's no one on guard at the North Tower."
"How many days we got?"
"Uh... An estimate of 5 days."
"Holy crap! Tomorrow I want to see the Top 30 soldiers that are doing well in our cheap Military Program."
Tomorrow
"We have 4 days left til' our first city in Yara is attacked. Yaranai Assasins, we are counting on you. Your weapons are a spear, an bow, and 3 arrows. Good luck." Greg speaks clearly to the Tops.
"Errr... Highness, the city has just been attacked." As the messager comes running tiredly. "God damn..." And he collapses.

((OOC Did you actually try that? Or was it just by coincadence that you put it and I noticed?))
When the Embassy was out of ear shot Arkyla started to laugh. His advisers did as well.
"Nice touch You highness." One of them said to him through the racks of laughter. "He must have thought he had you there. But you got him. Nice one." The king only nodded.
