In the Hamdervansk Shipyards, located on the Green Sea, sat 2 massive grandstands. In one, which was several times larger then the other sat several hundred civillian observers and media people. 50m away, was the second Grand Stand, reserved for foriegn dignitaries and Military leaders. Admiral Kamov and Rear Admiral Goncheniv were seated. They were chatting away about the Artitsan Navy, past exercises and great monumental battles. The Admiral had seen his share. Higher up sat Vladimir Overdanski, president of Artitsa. Beside him sat his formal advisors and of course - SARTF bodyguards. He sat crosslegged, quite silent. He was anxtious to see this new project that had eaten up so many funds. Between the two Grandstands was a large podium, with 4 seats. One was for Admiral Putamov, three for the head designers of the Submarine, and the last was for Captain O'Hara, who would be leading the sub. He would not be attending until after the demonstration.
Vladimir waited patiently to see this new SSN, the SSN-994-01 Echo.

ooc: If you would like to attend this show, post your arrival here. We may also make arrangements to sell the submarine after the demonstration.

Vladimir spotted the team from Iron blood, and motioned for them to walk over.
"Ah Alexei, how are you this afternoon? How is the family?"

Admiral Putamov walked to the Podium, and tapped the microphone.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we will begin shortly. Please take your seats."

Behind Putamov the SSN-994-01 rose above the waves, a great plume of water rising into the air. The hull was jet black, and very smooth. However it appeared slimey to some, with a blueish tint if you looked hard enough. There were no jutting protusions, everything was smooth and blended. The conning tower was rounded at every oppertunity, and trailed back into the hull. It did not appear to be made of metal. A hatch opened from the top of the conning tower, and Captain O'Hara appeared, waving to the crowd.

Two of the Artitsan Ministers, one the Minister of Foreign Relations, the other Minister of Defence welcomed Jacob Drummond to the grandstand, and showed him his seat.
Mikhail Gobachov, defence minister turned to Jacob, and whispered quitely,
"Could you have your guards deposit their weapons over there,"Mikhail pointed to a small building looking to be heavily guarded. Mikhail continued, "We have lots of protection here, you have no need to worry. Once again Mikhail pointed, revealing the positions of at least a dozen Snipers, who were virtually invisible, and also to 2 of the 6 teams around the grandstand should things go awry.
"They may keep their pistols and vests, but we ask all visible weapons of automatic nature be removed, so as not to spook the crowd. Enjoy the show."

While Iuthians generally prefer to their get information second hand from allies instead of attending these things, today an exception was made more or less because the Artitsan seemed to what them there, probably to show of their superiour naval vessal.

Never the less the Iuthians were invited view this new submarine and they didn't want to look inconciderate. After a short period of time an Iuthian diplomatic plane landed with the VIPs on board along with large group of security personel who would not be attending the viewing but would be assuring the security outside of the viewing with astistance from the Artitsian security forces.

The Iuthian Ambassidor to Artitsa, Jake Runlov and Admiral Pete Paterson would be attending the viewing themselves, both formally dressed for the occasion.

A KA-60 arrives slightly offset to the bandstand, circling about while the pilot locates a safe landing zone. Finding one, he flares, switching the cyclic autopilot on to maintain a steady hover as he slowly reduces the collective until they touched ground. The rear door slides open and a total of six men get out. The first two out are bodyguards, simple Petty Officers.

The first man out in full naval, summer parade dress was Ivan Kevanovich, Naval Intelligence Officer.

The second out was Yuriy Pavlovich, in charge of the Atlantic Fleet.

The third out was the Fleet Admiral of the Soviet Union, Alekseyev Federov.

A giant screen appeared behind the Podium, a picture of a submarine was displayed, with technical information. There were dozens of camera flashes as people captured images and information on this new submarine. Of Course it was missing all the most important classified information but that would be
revealed later.

http://mars.walagata.com/w/artitsa/SSN-991-01.gif

Length: 365 feet
Height: 54 feet
Width: 48 feet
Displacement: 9,300 tons.
Max Depth: 2400m
Propulsion: Nuclear Reactor, cooled by 3 independant freon systems. 1 Cools, two recharge. MHD is used instead of screws or pumpjets.
Speed: (Surface)30kts (Underwater)42kts
Range: Unlimited.
Sound Dampening systems(in order from outside.): **CLASSIFIED**
Armament: 6 663mm Torpedo Tubes, 32 Mine dispensers /w 3 mines per tube, 2 SA-N-14 Launchers /w 2 missiles per launcher.

The SSN-994-01 began to submerge, Captain O'Hara waved one last time before finally stepping down the ladder and closing the hatch. The Ship gracefully slipped under the surface silently, and headed out towards the middle of the bay. Sovremenny Destroyer 406 pulled out of its moorings, displaying full decorational flags, the crew waving to the people in the stands.

Admiral Putamov leaned over and spoke into the Microphone, "Ladies and Gentlemen. Our first demonstration shall show the silent ability of the Echo class Submarine." Putamov motioned two a second screen, a view of the Sovremenny's advanced Sonar screen. Nothing was shown.
"If you are unable to read Sonar screens, this is what the Sovermenny see's under the surface using Passive Sonar. Since the sound waves are not returned to the Destroyer, they cannot detect the sub."
He motioned again to the image, not a single disturbance was on the screen. Absolutely nothing.

"Now, there is a great difference between Passive and Active sonar, Folks, but I will not get into it here. Just know, that Active Sonar is more powerful."

The image changed to another Sonar Screen, but this time there was a lot of activity appearing.

"From this range, the Active Sonar is going absolutely nuts. But, now one of Echo's supreme features will come into play. Keep in mind, that the current Active Sonar findings are still smaller then the average submarine my friends. "

Captain O'Hara pointed to his countermeasures officer, and ordered him to activate the Aerogel. There was a small swishing noise and it was done. It was completely silent inside the Echo, everyone was holding their breath.
Back on land, the Screen had drastically changed. It was now the same as the first screen, completely blank.

"My friends, there is one more way to detect a submarine - MAD. Magnetic Anomoly Detection. It detects the magnetic disturbance in the water created by a submarine. Now, the Echo uses a new classified form of propulsion system, but it increases the MAD signature considerably. Something had to be done to defeat this method of detection, and we believe it has been achieved."

A KA-60 lifted off from the Sovremenny, flying into the middle of the bay, and dipped a rather large object attached to the KA-60 by a long cord. The image changed once more, displaying the MAD screen, and a very apparent image of the SSN-994-01 idling near the bottom of the bay. Then, the image became distorted, the submarine was clouding over, and then finally disappeared, and the MAD screen was blank. The MAD array would never work again, having been destroyed in a way. Another Classified Defence measure, only to be released to interested buyers.

"And so ends our first Demonstration. The second will take place tomarrow afternoon, 1pm."

The Civillians began to vacate the stands, but the Political Leaders and Generals of other nations were given hotel suites to spend their time in, before the next demonstration.

The Iuthian Ambassidor to Artitsa, Jake Runlov and Admiral Pete Paterson simply sat and watched the presentation and made notes... however, both men wore their poker faces, making sure to give nothing away.

The Ambassidor to Artitsa wore his normal grey Iuthian Diplomatic Corps suit, carefully pressed and ironed he looked more like a top businessman then a diplomat, he was balding slightly as he was clearly one of the more experienced men in the Corps, though this didn't really show too much.

Meanwhile the Admiral wore his pristine white naval uniform for the job at hand, he found it suited most occasions and matched the color of his hair, short and white. He didn't really look to impressed, but then again, this man looked like it would take a miricle to make him look impressed, happy, sad... though anger wasn't off the menu.

Admiral Paterson had already seen enough to determine that NAFDA would probably still have a shot at detecting the vessal if it go too close to Iuthia itself, but then again, NAFDA was a delicate system and it really wasn't designed for it... still, there are more then one way to skin a cat, he didn't feel too threaten for the time being.

Meanwhile, Jake Runlov was only here because he represented a diplomatic presence, much of this was dull as hell to him and he simply watched and kept more of an eye on others reactions to keep his judgement of body language sharp, a key skill in his profession.

The Admiral turned to Boris O'Connor, the Foreign Affairs Minister for Artitsa and asked a question in a rather curt fashion.

"Boris, lets be straight here shall we." the Admiral started, keeping his voice low enough so the presentation wouldn't be disturbed and the conversation kept between them. "We both know Iuthia doesn't buy military hardware from other nations, and we almost never buy designs for it, so whats the real reason I'm here?"

"Wha'?" He asked, sitting back up and looking more attentive.

"You're up lad, Minister O'Connor would like a word with you about something." The balding man just continued to look at the Admiral, who then continued. "... in private."

"Oh... right." The man got up and striaghtened out his suit, allowing Boris to lead the way.

Boris led the Iuthian ambassador back to the parking lot, where a waiting limo had been waiting. After climbing in, the Limo pulled away, escorted by two unmarked generic cars, one black, and the other silver, differnet makes. The 20 minute ride was a silent one, and the roads had been empty. Once they finally reached their destination, Boris held the door open to Runlov, who's first sight was the Artitsan Federal Services Bureau.
"Mr. Runlov, this would be our FSB headquarters. In essence, the CIA. However, we also work out our Diplomatic ties here, as the safety is magnificant. If you would follow me?"

Boris led Runlov through the security, which took 1 and a half hours to go through all the checkpoints and searches. Once past, they sat on a small underground train, which several minutes later, and a lot more laiden with passangers, shot off down the 20km journey, traveling almost 2km down. Once the train stopped, they passed through a massive concrete door, down several halls, and into a conference room. They had finally arrived. Boris quickly asked the aide to bring some refreshments, "What do you want to Drink, Runlov? Anything to eat? The cooks here are fantastic. You shouldn't pass up the opertunity. I myself will have the Steak, Margeret, thanks."
Boris motioned to Runlov to place his order.
On the table before them were several documents, waiting to be examined and signed.

31-08-2004, 18:33
Jake Runlov remained patient throughout the whole affair, having been through Artitsan security before in other areas of the country, they were very much like Iuthia in that respect.

It seemed like he had been taken into the most secure place in Artitsa, though he wasn't entirely sure why this it was important to do this here, as he wouldn't actually be able to sign anything without presenting it to the Lord General first. However, everyone has their ways he susposed.

Foriegn Minister O'Connor led him into the conference room and offered him something to eat.

"Sure, I think I'll have the stake also." Jake then looked down at the documents for a moment, he was going to have to read them of course so he could present them to James deGritz, but he couldn't do much besides that. "and a cold beer would go down a treat, thanks."

As his request was being cooked, the Ambassidor to Artitsa started to read the documents before him, examining them fully and occasionally even pulling out a magnifing glass to get a closer look. After a period of time her looked up at Boris O'Connor.

"You know I don't have the authority to sign this, even if it grossly in our favor. I'm going to have to take a copy back to the Lord General for his approval." Jake sighed a little before continuing. "I would suggest allowing me to use my diplomatic pouch to take such copies back, I'd also like to make amends in parts to suit our agenda... of course, you will be expected to make amends of our amends and so on, so this could take a while.

"Still, these documents look pretty reasonable, though I doubt you are going to get an actual alliance, a non-aggression pact suits our interests, but an alliance would be too much to expect so early and we are becoming increasingly selective with such connections."

Boris nodded, partly to himself.
"Of course you'll need to take them back, but I wanted your opinion first. Theres no use in sending it to the higher ups if the ambassador doesn't think its necessary. If you require transportation, we'd be glad to offer it." Boris looked down at his steak, "Im quite thirsty myself... Margret, get me a Stella would you please? Thanks dear."
Boris watched her walk out of the room, her rump rocking back and forth. Boris had always been a womanizer, and he has had his eye on Margret for sometime now. That one night back in Kamskgrad.... just her and him, alone in the office.... he took another few seconds to remember that night, and returned to his official duties.
"Yes, so. We really are looking to strengthen our ties with Iuthia," Boris leaned in over the table and lowered his voice, "Rumour has it, we'll be leaving the accord..." Boris finished his sentence with a wink and a nod.

Ambassidor Runlov watched as the attractive woman go off to get Boris some Stella, her ass moving in delightful ways as she walked. Jakes was a red-blooded Iuthian and knew a good thing when he saw it, back home he like to indulge himself at the brothels. However, he was here for business so he quickly got back to the document.

"Well, looking at the non-agression pact I think I can safely say that this is the most agreement we are most likely to be interested in, but I can already forsee that we will have to make... modifications to some of the terms." Jake took a long sip of his beer, it was perfectly chilled which made it all the better. "But I'm sure that will come later after our proffessionals have gone over it a few times and James himself has read it. We will probably be looking to make it so we can protect our allies from aggression without breaking the treaty. But like I said, it will take time to be sure."

Jake had got through half of his steak already, having read the document now. "I'm pleased that you're looking to improve relations, but you will have to understand that Iuthia is going to be cautious... we will probably take some time before we can trust Artitsa with a full alliance." He sighed.

"Rumours are all very well, afterall there are a few rumours flying around about Iuthia's alliance interests recently, but they are often that... rumours. They are nice indications of the possible, but they need confirmation to act upon." Jakes then took another bite out of his stake. "I must say this is quite good. Ohwell... like I said, you can probably get a NAP, even if you stay with the accord, meanwhile the alliance is likely out of reach even if you were to leave the accord. So we imagine your business with them is your own, though it would probably do your nations image well to get away from those warmongerers."

Boris paused to drink his beer, and leaned forward again to speak.
"We are willing to launch missions to protect the soverignty of our allies, and the world. An example would be our pre-emptive strike on Hataria."

Boris leaned back in his chair, and studied Runlovs face. It was cold as stone.
"Ever play Rugby Mr. Runlov? Fantastic sport. In Rugby you need to have a great team to beat the other side. We want you on our team. As I have said, we did change our warmongering ways. When President Overdanski was voted into power, the first thing he did was recall the military. Our GDP per Capita has gone up, and our Nations people much happier. However, they are warming up with Artitsa..." Jakes then finished his steak and took a final swig from his beer. Getting up, the man gave a quick nod of recognition and then concluded the conversation.

"Well, that was a lovely meal. Thanks for the hospitality. I'm sure your military demonstation is complete now. I hope it was as sucessful as you hoped. Now I must be off to give this document to the Lord General so we may discuss this more... offically next time. Thanks again Minister O'Connor, It was a pleasure doing business with you."
