OOC: For the past 18 NS months IDF has been positioning troops in newly acquired NW Indiana, our main goal was to capture Chicago, well here it goes.

“I am ready Mr. President,” said Secretary of State/Defense Benjamin Harris Tallman. He would resign his post to retake his job as General and would lead the IDF army in it's invasion of Chicago.

“That sounds good,” said IDF's President, Jerry Reinsdorf, a Chicago native. “When will you launch the invasion?”

“I plan on taking Chicago on the evening of August 11th,” replied Tallman. “I have the troops I need. I will try to reduce casualties as we want to make our hometown part of IDF. Their tyranical rule forced us out and now we will do the Chicagoans a favor after their decades under tyranny.”

“I know,” said Reinsdorf. “Chicago was nice to me when I was young and I will do it a favor by removing the dictatorship hold on it.”

“I will make sure it is done sir,” said Tallman.

Gary/Chicago Airport, Gary, Indiana, IDF, 2 hours ago August 11, 2004

“We are about to embark on the biggest endeavour in IDF history,” said General Tallman speaking to his troops. “We will liberate Chicago from it's dictators and give it's people the life they deserved. Our 1st strike will be a naval bombardment by subs, destroyers, frigates, and cruisers. They will take out a line of SAMs and AAAs and help neutralize defenses at Meigs, O'Hare, and Midway. Of course they will also have to kill some ships stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base that pose a threat to us.

“During this 1st attack we will have our stealth aircraft eliminate the planes that get into the air, but that should be few as the airfields will be damaged early. We will also take out radars and key military positions.

USS Albany, Ohio SSGN, 15 miles Northeast of Chicago

“Comm up 1-5-0 feet, 5 up bubble on the fairwater planes,” called the CO as the XO repeated the order for the diving officer to copy.

“Leveling out at 1-5-0 feet dive aye,” said the Diving officer.

“pressurize TLAM tubes in groups of 8, fire on my command,” said the CO.

“Pressurizing to launch all TLAMs at 8 at a time,” called the Weps officer.

The massive sub shook with the discharged air from the missile launches. 3 other Ohio subs did the same and 600 TLAMs were in the air to disable Meigs, O'Hare, Midway, and SAM defenses along with military installations.

On the surface the 12 Farragat DDGs of the 2nd Destroyer squadron opened fire with their TASMs on the Chicago Navy. They then fired a few dozen TLAMs to destroy the base.

Over the skies, same time

IDF's 1st wave of aircraft was 148 F-22A Raptors under the guidance of ground based radar and AWACs over IDF territory in NW Indiana. There weren't organized air patrols up this early in the conflict so the Raptors were informed of planes while not using their own RADAR and engaged them as directed by ground and air controlers.

Next came 48 B-1B Lancers that bombed troop positions.

IDF was ready to intensify the war effort and 45 minutes after the 1st missiles fell, 78 C-141s with 150 paratroopers each took off from Gary-Chicago Airport. The 11,700 men made up the 32nd Airborne division. The C-141s flew north 15 miles where they turned West. They flew under cover of missile destroyers and aircraft like F-15Cs, Su-37s and F-22As. The planes dropped their men off in Grant Park on the Eastern shore of Lake Michigan. The men fought bravely taking 3,000 casualties, all would be lost if not for the 21st airborne division arriving from 52 Galaxy transports taking off from Porter County Airport. The 14,000 reinforcements allowed the stabalization of a beachhead and a new airport, Meigs field. The small airfield with it's single, small runway would be valuable (OOC: Note, I'm disregarding the RL fact that the dictator Richard M. Daley tore up Meigs).

The 32nd took a total of 3,500 casualties while the 21st took 1,250 casualties during the capture. Important landmarks like Shed Aquariam, Alder Planetarium, Buckingham Fountain, the Field Museum, and beloved Soldier Field, the home of the Chicago Bears, the team soon to be IDF's official team.

With the beachhead secured landings could be made. IDF had 7 Wasp II LHDs ready and they carried a total of 21,000 troops and over 100 M-1s, with a beach the landing would be easy

If you need any more troops to back up your taking of Chicago, we will be more then happy to send some military equipment up there. We can move hundreds of tanks either by river or our railroads that go all from New Orleans to the Canadian border on the west side of the Mississippi River.

OOC: You can attack via DuPage county. Addison/Wood Dale would be good staging points... my house is within 18 miles of downtown Chicago. You can use DuPage airport as a staging point for air attacks, and move towards Midway, then O'Hare.

OOC: Who owns Chicago now? And will you annex all of Illinois, only Northern Illinois or just Chicago?

Salbania supports IDF's actions, and due to... past dealings with them, we will glaadly send in some of our most elite strategists if need be. And, in case of further need, we will contact our allies and tell them about this situation, and ask them to donate things to you.

We thank all who support us, I have no clue who owns chicago and want all aid possible. We will capture Cook County and probably the DeKalb area in Northern Illinois, if Attican owns DuPage I will cancel plans to take it (I want it as I use to live in Wheaton and I want DeKalb as I was born there and my Dad went to college and played football at NIU)

The Federation of Morathania will be sending in a Division with 50,000 men to help in the taking of Chicago. We will also help in liberating McHenry and Lake Counties. (OOC: Used to live in the Northwest Suburbs.) From what our best strategists can devise the best thing to do is to sweep through to the South of Chicago then turn Northward cutting off the city. Then with Chicago encircled we can easily take it. Naval Forces will move from the North Atlantic into the Great Lakes.

HELL NO!!! I don't want to own Wisconsin, although I would like to sign a contract to buy 100% of you iron taconite pellet production for our US Stell, ISG, and Bethlehem steel plants along with many smaller ones in NW Indiana. With the landing of 40,000 troops on Grant Park completed, phase II was to be launched

With F-16C support 5 armored cav divisions with a total of 600 M-1A2s entered Chicago. They entered from Hammond taking US 41 off of the Indiana Toll Road on I80/90 to avoid the deathtrap that is the Chicago Skyway Bridge. They crossed the Calumet River and followed US 41 as it became south Shore Drive. There was fierce resitance and 100 tanks were damaged or destroyed and 250 of their crews killed. 1,200 M3 Bradleys traveled behind the tanks with 8 infantry in each and 2,000 more APCs carried 32,000 more troops. They total losses of Bradleys was 200 vehicles and 1,115 men. With the APCs it was 150 vehicles and 1,571 men lost. The war was costly but the South-East side was captured.

A separate Armored Cav followed by 2 Light Infantry divisions went West on 35th street where they followed it to Shields. With tears of joy in their eyes these men had reached Comiskey Park, home of the White Sox, the team that their President owned until moving to IDF to follow political ambitions, The Sox would be unde Reinsdorf's control again for glory years. The Division command set up base camp at the stadium now known as US Cellular Field, his desk was in the Upper Deck concourse situated under a giant mural featuring White Sox greats Minnie Minoso, Carlton Fisk, Shoeless Joe, Harold Baines, Frank Thomas, Maggs Ordonez, and Ozzie Guillen.

The main unit of tanks up South Shore Drive/US-41 was joined by 4 infantry units with a total of 60,000 more soldiers. They took South Shore Drive up to 69th street where it became the favorite Lake Shore Drive by the Museum of Science and Industry. They were now 2 miles south of the beachhead previously captured by the paratroopers and marines. The South and East side of the city were firmly in IDF control.

I am posting here only to put my nations name in the thread. I will send troops as soon as possible. I have soldiers already posted in other nations but the action has not started yet. I am probably going to withdrawal my troops from one conflict which I think fell through and i'll see what happens
with the other conflict which may go into batle pretty soon. I'll give you updates as it goes on but i would be more then happy to help invade Chicago.

Grenval recognizes IDF and this invasion, and shall support our ally, IDF, if requested, but at this time, Grenval remains otherwise neutral.

Lake Michigan is connected to the Mississippi already, the Chicago River's flow has been reveresed, and a canal was built called the Illinois waterway connecting it to the Illinois River which flows into the Mississippi River (that is all In RL)

I dont think 3 snipers is going to cut it. Even if they are the finest, that doesnt mean that they cant die. An artillery cannon or bombing raid could easile take them out. And whats with SWAT in an international affair. Your nations burgalers/terrorists are going to have a field day!!! You should send in the military or something. I understand that the military is busy, but if it is the whole military, then i think you should just back out.

Akita-Ryuvius will gladly support IDF in this conflict. If the situation escalates to where its ACTUAL ground combat then i will send troops. Also, i think SWAt is a little overdoing it. Havent you ever heard of Special Forces? Liberating buildings is what they are trained for. You dont need SWAt to do that, and i agree, terrorist attacks and threats would be on the rise if the SWAT teams were out on some war. Send in Rangers at least in place of them.

Also 1.3-Whatever Million Dollars isnt enough, thats probobly enough for one battleship, including all ammo, maitenance and fuel fees. It takes roughly 40 Billion to run a one million man army, and thats only with the nessescary clothes, food and weapons, nothing else. No high-tech laptops or radios to call in airstrikes, just one soldier, one gun, and some food. I think 1.37 is no where near enough. Running an operation like this takes over 1 Billion dollars.

Seattle, Cascadia

News tickers across the city carried word of a major Midwestern offensive by the Israeli Defense Forces. The war-weary people of Cascadia could do little but sigh. The paranoiacs in their midst would be vindicated. Though their government was neutral with respect to the IDF, the latter's military strength and power frightened the isolationist element.

There was no word from the Karakas Militia government yet. As yet they were more concerned about consolidating their control over Washington.

The Rose Tower, near Seattle

The Rose Tower had little to do with roses, and was not exactly a tower as such. But it was the headquarters of the Karakas Militia. It had evolved from a temporary fort erected during the militia's victorious march into Seattle. As they formed a provisional government for Cascadia, it had been added to, and eventually evolved into the center for meetings and policy discussions of the junta.

"Gentlemen, welcome," said General Ricardo Sanchez. "Please be seated."

They discussed some matters of domestic policy, including the new water infrastructure and the operations to clear Vancouver's harbor, before moving on to Chicago.

General Sanchez called on his Defense Minister. "Corporal Djordjevic," said he, "how does the IDF operation impact on ours?"

"In itself, it is not a threat to our operations," Djordjevic replied. "In the long term, however, it is likely to alter the balance of power in the Great Lakes region, with corresponding effects to trade routes and strategic considerations."

"Very well. I am open to comments."

"Why wait," said Corporal Martins abruptly, "for our operation to be damaged? Sooner or later, our expansion plans are going to run up against the IDF. We have the numbers, and I say we should strike now."

Several other junta members agreed with him. "But," said General Sanchez, raising his hand, "it is my decision in the end. Corporal, you are correct that we have the numbers. But don't forget, we're still recovering from heavy losses. You'll certainly remember the Olympia and Tacoma campaigns. I do not judge that we are currently capable - in terms of equipment and in terms of logistics and manpower - of fighting a force as good as the IDF.

"So," he continued, "I will send an instant message to the commander of IDF forces, and tell him that we hope for a swift return to stability. Meanwhile, we strengthen our position in Cascadia, so that if - if - we must confront the IDF later, we do so from a position of power. This meeting is adjourned."

The junta returned to its routine administrative duties. Before doing so himself, however, Corporal Martins gathered the other officers who had wanted to fight the IDF. "You see now," he whispered conspiratorially, "how General Sanchez is so reluctant, so unwilling, to protect the Karakas Militia's interests . . ."
