The Lightning Star
12-08-2004, 02:05
Islamabad, Capital of the Punjab Territory(in Pakistan).
The protestors filled the streets outside the governers palace. It was a fairly peaceful demonstration, and it was the first demonstration in the 65 years of Lightning Starian Colonial rule. The people used to be well off, but due to the recent civil war in TLS, what used to be 50 billion dollars per year going to the colony had shrunk to 700 million. The PAX(the Territories Stock market for all four colonies on the former country of Pakistan, which are the colonies of Punjab, Greater Karachi, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber.), had suffered tremendously, and nearly 70% of people had lost their jobs. This caused the people to go to the streets. For 3 weeks they camped, until a group of protestors decided to act. 30 or so protestors snuck into the Palace courtyards and threw Molotov Cocktails into the windows. Unfortuntatly for them(or fortunatly), there was a meeting of around 70 or so colonial officals, plus and extra 300 people were inside. Once the Molotovs flew in, nearly 90% of the building caught on fire. People who were covered in flames jumped out of the windows on the 4, and highest, floor, where the meetings were being kept. After 4 hours, the fire had burned down the entire building, killing everyone but the Governer and 30 other people, only 7 of whom were government officals. All of them sufered at least second degree burns. After it was deiscovered that it was te protestors who did it, the army stormed the encampent where they were staying. Infantry crawled in, followed by tanks that mowed down the tents. The protestors, who were now baisically rebels, fought back. Somehow, over 3,000 AK-M's found their way into the rebels hands. Unfortunatly for the colonial troops, nearly 40% of thsoldiers deserted to the rebels. Within 6 hours the entire city was engulfed in fighting. The neighboring city of Rawalpindi, which bordered the city of Islamabad, was also the site of a possibly even fiercer struggle. There were over 1 million rebels, although only 300,000 of them were armed, against 20,000 soldiers. The army gave land, but it went slowly and not without a fight. For every meter gained by the rebels, at least 10 rebels died. Eventually, hopelessly outnumbered, the army was forced to withdraw from both cities, but not before 79% of Islamabad and 92% of Rawalpindi was in flames. Over 100,000 rebels had died, and 17,000 soldiers.

Shocking news tonight. It seems that there has been an uprising in three of our Pakistani Territories, Azad Kashmir, Punjab, and Khyber.
/pictures and clips of film of the fighting appears, anchor talks in the backround/
It seems that a poor economy and a very high poverty rate has sparked a rebellion. The sight of people burning Lightning Starian Flags is common place, and efigies of the Emperor and other high ranking officials are also burned. It seems that the only place not hit hard by the economic crisis of the Empire has been Greater Karachi, which actually has prospered during these last 2 years of bloody conflict in and around the Empire. We are also receiveing reports that the other territories of Botswana and southern Mozambique also have mass protesting but it hasnt escalated to riots and/or armed conflict.
