Order a tallship from the Dominion of Pyracy!

Pyracy
11-08-2004, 21:28
The Dominion of Pyracy is pleased to open their first shipyard! As we are yet a small nation, and prefer older ships anyway, this shipyard will only supply wooden ships. They can come either fully armed with high-quality naval bronze cannons, or can come "bare-decked". We also offer a high-quality training class, if your nation has no experience with traditional sailing.

No need for old-style tallships? Bah! Imagine... a mighty and majestic tallship cruising the ocean on a mission of goodwill... children and adults alike wide-eyed at the beauty. For the rest of their lives, they'll remember that it was YOUR country that sent it there! Offer rides! Offer tours!

Order one or order a bunch! Beware... we don't have these on hand, and while we have quick and experienced shipwrights, supply is limited.

Our prices may seem high, but our craftsmanship and fast turn-around time make this very worth it.

Custom jobs accepted... post here for details!

36-gun Frigate:
180 feet, 500 tons. 32 foot beam, and draws 15 feet of water.
$100 million unarmed, $110 million armed.
Crew of 100

Bomb Ketch:
2 mortars, six cannons.
100 feet, 50 tons. One deck plus a hold. Draws 6 feet, and has a 15 foot beam.
$75 million unarmed, $85 million armed.
Crew of 65

Lumber Schooner:
Recall those trading days of yore with this high-capacity lumber barge.
Unarmed.
80 feet, 25 foot beam. 41 tons, draws four feet.
$50 million.
Crew of 15

Or, we can build you a custom presidential sailing yacht! Inquire within.

All ships come inspected and approved by the Dominion of Pyracy Coast Guard.

Options:
Add gold to your decorative trim! Only adds another 10% to the purchase price!

Training class! Make your schmuck naval officers and sailors into TRUE men-of-the-sea, capable of sailing one of our fine tallships. 4-week intensive course, only $10000 per man.

The electronics package: Make your traditional boat effective for this century! Adds full-band radio equipment, radar, depthfinder, and modern safety equipment. Add only $1 million to the purchase price.

UPDATE: With logistics in mind, we will add a tender boat with a repair technician and for support in heavy seas. No extra charge!

I would probably get the lumber schooner, but it would be like a presidential yacht with a room for the royal badgers. Possably oak or some strong pine.

Excellent concept.

Wolfish will use this to train naval recruits in the traditions of ancient mariners.

5 fully armed frigates.
1 fully armed frigate with gold trim.
2 unarmed frigates.
5 fully armed Bomb Ketchs.
2 unarmed Bomb Ketchs.

10 Lumber Schooners.

All ships should be equiped with full electronic packages (as a backup to star-navagation - can't have our recruits getting totally lost).

We will also pre-pay for training one full crew for each vessel - 1,405 individuals.

We understand that this is likely to be a large order for your dockyards - we are willing to accept delivery as available (understanding this may be over a few years.).

Holindaze: A presidential yacht is a fantastic idea, one we did not think of. It's now in our list of services.

We'll build you a really nicely appointed sailing yacht, about 75 feet, traditionally-rigged. A ceremonial cannon will be included. 55 million. Once money's wired, the shipyards will begin work. Shouldn't take too long at all, considering that most of our shipwrights are well acquainted with yachts.

Wolfish: Yikes... that's a huge order. But we'll get started on it... just as soon as a few new drydocks are completed. (this shouldn't take too long... we can build the ships practically on any large beach!) Total cost for what you ordered is 1.985 billion. Estimate time for delivery to be one year (OOC: one RL week)

PRESS RELEASE:
//for immediate release

The Dominion of Pyracy today entered the global trade market by laying the keel of its first export ship. The ship, for now only known by its hull number of One, represents a new era for the Dominion. Ordered at a reported cost of 121 million pieces of eight, the ship is a 36-gun frigate with gold trim. It was ordered last week by the Mental Lands. As of yet, the frigate's purpose is unknown, except that it has "official use" that required high-quality trim.

The Minister of Plunder is reportedly thrilled by the potential of this new source of income.

Tours of the construction are being given at Pier 14 (drydock one).

Inquiries may be directed to:

For training purposes, the GDMO Navy would like to purchase 5 unarmed bomb ketches with electronics package. For Public Relations purposes, the Navy would like to purchase 5 armed frigates with gold trim and electronics package. The total comes to $985,500,000. Although this is absolutely OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive for a wooden ship, we hope that the craftsmanship will live up to our expectations.

Furthermore, we would like to inquire as to whether or not you would be willing to build and sell us a true ship-of-the-line--a wooden battleship carrying 90-100+ guns. We would like it to be armed, trimmed with the highest quality material, with intricate carvings and fine nuances, and sumptuous furnishings for state rooms. We want an outrageously gaudy ship that just cries out majesty. If such an order can be accomplished, please respond with the price.

Persues: Send me an actual order... with a price.

Monte Ozarka: Yes, we'll build an actual ship of the line. The Dominion does not have any problem building ships of this size, except for time. We didn't figure anyone would be interested. Erm... with all the trim, let's say it'll be equal to three fully armed and trimmed frigates. This'll get you something roughly the size and stature of the HMS Victory. Upon wiring of money, we will start your order immediately. You seem like you know what you want, and we appreciate this.

12-08-2004, 06:18
Alright, with the ship-of-the-line as agreed upon (HMS Victory w/1805 armament, gold trim and detailing, and nav system) and my previous order, the total comes to $1,321,800,000. In good faith, we wire that money right now.

We hope to receive our order soon,

we can try one of my Ramon class DDGs against all of your frigates, just joking, good store if I were earlier tech I'd buy
Pyracy
12-08-2004, 06:37
No need to be earlier tech, IDF! Simply buy one as a yacht, or as a ship of goodwill!

Ozarka: The keels have been laid. If it's any interest to you, the ship of the line's keel is number two, the frigates are three through seven. The ketches are hulls eight through twelve, (though ships ten, eleven and twelve will be laid once additional drydock space is cleared). Expect launching on the frigates and two ketches next year (OOC tomorrow this time.) The remaining three ketches will be laid at that time, and the ship of the line and ketches launched the following year (OOC 48 hours from now.)

We congratulate you on your order! If we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to inquire.

At this time, confirmation/payment is needed for Persues, Wolfish, Praetonia, and Holindaze.

Yes to all.
Pyracy
12-08-2004, 17:33
5 fully armed frigates (hulls 14-18, 13 has been skipped for superstitious reasons of the dockworkers)
1 fully armed frigate with gold trim (hull 19)
2 unarmed frigates (hulls 20 and 21)
5 fully armed Bomb Ketchs (22-26)
2 unarmed Bomb Ketchs (27-28)
10 Lumber Schooners (29-39)

We will have an additional five drydocks online by the end of the year, giving us fifteen total. Schooners are taking six months, frigates and ketches one year.

Your first ships will launch two years from now, taking into account the current orders going on. In two years, there will be ten schooners, five armed frigates, and two unarmed ketches ready for pickup. One year from that point, you can pickup the remainder of your order.

(OOC: One year = one day)

Praetonia: please wire money, and your hull number will be assigned, thereby adding it to the shipyard's work order.

"Why? You see, we are a custom shipyard of the highest quality. Our brass? It's shiny. Our masts? They're tall. Our wood? Well... you get the idea. Our ships are beautiful, long-lasting, and comfortable. Just tell me what you would like, and we'll get your keel laid just as soon as we can."

Greetings from the Naval Office!

We would like to place an order for a vessel for ceremonial occasions, which will act as a memorial vessel and so forth also.

The ship will be a full, three-decked 100-gun warship, of the same dimensions (roughly) as HMS Victory. Propulsion will be a full sailing rig, but also we would like a backup diesel engine installed, with a concealed vent for exhaust smoke. In addition, we would appreciate it if the ship were given the Palm Frond navigation radar system, allowing it compatibility with existing ships of the Fleet, and GPS/SINS.

Please inform us of the cost of this vessel, if you accept our request.

Edit: Hope it's alive. Probably not though, judging from the fact the last post was in August.

The Naval Museum in Nicksia has some questions with regard to the armed 36 gun frigate you advertise.

We note the length of 180 feet, which we believe is comparable to the frigate USS Constellation's length; however, the Constellation displaced just under 1,300 tons full load.

We were wondering what make of wood is used to construct these frigates and what type of ordnance they carry. The Constellation was made of a resilient live oak, had a copper sheathing on the keel to prevent barnacles from growing on its and dragging its speed down, and was armed with 24 pound long guns and 32 pound carronades.

We were also wondering if you could construct a 44 gun frigate carrying 30 long 24 pounders and 14 32 pound carronades. The specific ship that inspires this request is the USS Constitution, one of the finest wooden-built warships of its day. It would measure 204 feet in length and displace 1,576 tons full load. We can send specifications to you for either frigate.

Thank you for taking the time to review our request. We believe having ships similar to the Constellation and the Constitution would provide a prime example of the pride in quality of workmanship that marks Sarzonian shipbuilders.

you are only offering 8th Rate Tallships?

a guide to Rates
1st: +100 guns
2nd: 98-90 guns
3rd: 88-80 guns
4th: 78-70 guns
5th: 68-60 guns
6th: 58-50 guns
7th: 48-40 guns
8th: -38 guns

a suggestion, start work on the larger ships, and true frigates are not 36 guns, but rather 8th rrates, true frigates are at least 5th rates.

If you want, I can provide the wheights and location of the cannons in older tallships.
Hurtful Thoughts
20-02-2006, 15:07
Well, even though PROHT is wrking on concrete sailboats (for reasons not fully understood), we could hedge our bets and buy a few bomb ketches armed with modern guns, the open deck should be suficient for elevating the gun and ttacking aircraft with this particular design.

And we'll just pay 100 million each, because we want ours slightly biger, with electronics, and fittings for modern gun mounts and motor. (sailing auxillary). PROHT shall provide the guns, all you need to do is provide the boats.

10 super ketches for $1 billion

Yes I do realize the owner is dead. Just let someone do a hostile takover and post on his threads that you are taking over his business, and link it to your copy.

OOC: The British rating system only goes as far as sixth rates:

First rate: 100 guns or more (three deckers)
Second rate: 90-98 guns (three deckers)
Third rates: 64-80 guns (two deckers)
Fourth rates: 50-60 guns (two deckers)
Fifth rates: 30-49 guns (frigates; one gun deck)
Sixth rates: 20-28 guns (corvettes and light frigates, usually)
Unrated: Anything 19 guns or below.

The most common of the larger ship classes were 100-plus gun first rates, 74 gun third rates, 38 gun frigates, and later, after the successes of the U.S.S. Constitution and the other large frigates in the U.S. Navy, 44 gun frigates.

The U.S. had first class and second class frigates; the first class frigates being ships like Constitution and her ilk and second class frigates being ships like Constellation or ships of that approximate size.
