OOC: The long serving Defense Minister, Sir Walter Melville was assassinated by domestic terrorists backed by NURP (Nationalist Union/Republic Party Coaltion) and the Joint High Command Council.
Sir Walter was the last obstacle to direct military control over the armed forces. Senator Bernard Allenby and Field Marshal Alexander Kepplar, Chairman of the Joint High Command Council, are the leaders of "The Insurrection", the group that killed the Defense Minister and the group that seeks to turn Hamptonshire from a moderate progressive Federal Monarchy to a nationalist right wing semi-dictatorial republic.
If a NURP puppet is appointed as Defense Minister, the Royal Armed Forces will slowly but surely come under the control of the hardline right-wingers. On the off chance that a person loyal to the Grand Duke and the Unity Coalition is appointed, NURP will be delayed in its plans to take over the military and stage a coup.
This poll is more an opinion poll than an election poll.
Robert Crane is the man that NURP is hinging their hopes on, there is a very good reason I chose that picture for him.

Platform: Congressman Crane believes that the Royal Armed Forces should not be overseen by the civilian authorities, the military knows how to run the military. He is a long standing critic and opponent to the Grand Duke and most of the Cabinet members. Robert Crane is widely seen as a puppet of Senator Bernard Allenby, President of the Royal Congress. Platform: As Grand Duke Reginald Leopold I's closest military aide, and personal friend, Fleet Admiral Lord Rosecrans supports civilian control over the military, the lessening of the command ability of the Joint High Command Council, and decreased interference from the Nationalist Union Party in the Royal Senate. While the Fleet Admiral tries to avoid public political comments, he has numerously voiced his disaproval with the ruiling NURP Coalition.

Platform: As the adopted daughter of the Grand Duke, Princess Patricia Anne Cessar is third in line to the Grand Ducal Throne. While she is a very capable politican and is one of the most education members of the Royal Congress, she is relatively inexperienced with military affairs. She is a firm believer in the strength of the Royal Armed Forces and is a leading advocate for the movement to drastically increase military spending.
