http://www.mattwood3d.com/image_pages/images/vpbk2.jpg KL-55 "Sabre" is a new generation combat helicopter is intended to perform combat missions round-the- clock in VFR and IFR conditions both autonomously (without target designation means) and in group (with autonomous target designation and distribution).
KL-55 "Sabre" is capable to engage:
ground targets without including armoured ones;
sheltered and unsheltered manpower;
various aerial targets.
Submarines
naval vessels.
KL-55 "Sabre" ensures:
inflight refueling capability
low-level and extreme low-level terrain-following flights autonomously with the use of radar and thermal imaging system;
the use of armament systems providing destruction of various targets and performing fire in no target direct visibility conditions;
second crew member flight control, including training;
target determination and transfer of data to receiving posts and other helicopters;
built-in check and on-condition maintenance.
Stealth:
The KL-55 has an infrared absorbent coating and a low infrared exhaust in order to reduce the thermal signature. A radar absorbent coating has been used to provide a low radar cross section.
Due to its high power-to-weight ratio it can be operated in various areas including high lands and areas with high ambient temperatures. KL-55 "Sabre" can fly vertical accelerated manoeuvres from 0 ... 2.6 g-load, sideslip, fly backwards up to 100 km/h. It can perform manoeuvres, such as loop and pushover manoeuvres, etc.
The features enhancing combat survivability include:
shielding of vital components by less important ones;
main and tail rotors blades are made of super-strong composites free from secondary destruction effect;
duplicated hydraulic and control systems;
engine separation;
armoured pilot?s cockpit is fitted with ceramic armoured fuselage, bullet-proof windshields and armoured partition between crew members;
self-sealing polyurethane foam-filled fuel tanks;
unique fuel system operating in depression conditions preventing explosion, ignition and leakage.
KL-55 "Sabre" is fitted with rescue system (shock- absorbing landing gear and ejection seat providing crew safety during emergency landing at vertical speed up to 12.7 m/s). At the altitudes of more than 100 m the crew is equipped with parachute system.
KL-55 "Sabre" is equipped with two engines TV3-117VMA-SB3 with a new automatic control system to provide during firing restoring of engine operation mode during surge and combustion chamber failure. It permits to enhance employment envelope of unguided weapons to the limits of helicopter combat altitude and speed ranges.
The on-board multifunctional avionics suite ensures round-the-clock helicopter piloting, navigational and combat tasks in anytime of the year. The avionics suite is comprised of a multiplexed, multi-level digital computer-based system having large storage capacity and high speed. Observation, search and targeting systems comprising head-mounted display are used for round-the-clock and all-weather detection of specified targets and their attack using optical, TV, laser, IR and radar equipment.
Weapons:
KL-55 "Sabre" has big sweptback mid-mounted stubwings with four suspension units. Countermeasures pods are mounted on the wingtips. The helicopter can be armed with a mixture of air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, unguided rockets and podded guns. When a high priority target is detected, the pilot uses a helmet mounted target designator which allocates the target to the navigator's surveillance and fire control system. The navigator/weapons officer is then able to deploy guided weapons or gun against the target. The targeting system follows the direction of the pilot's eyes.
Anti-Tank Missile
The KL-55 "Sabre" is armed with various anti-tank missiles. Up to 26 anti-tank missiles can be mounted on the helicopter making it the perfect tank and fortification killing machine.
Air to Air Missiles
The helicopter can launch fire-and-forget air to air missiles with independent self homing systems.
Unguided Weapons
The KL-55 "Sabre" helicopter can also carry 6 containers each with 25 80 mm unguided rockets or with 10 122 mm rockets. The helicopter can alternatively carry containers with grenade launchers, 23 mm guns, 12.7 and 7.62 machine guns, aerial bombs and incendiary tanks.
Cannon
The KL-55 "Sabre" helicopter is equipped with a turreted 2 barelled 30 mm cannon, the 2A52.The gun mount is stabilised in two planes. A firing unit is installed between two faired cartridge housings mounted directly on the gun carriage. The gun is fed selectively from the cartridge housings. The cannon provides a muzzle velocity of 1,000 metres per second.

Naval KLA-55N helicopter
http://www.mattwood3d.com/image_pages/images/viperoe.JPG
The mission of this helicopter is to detect, track and destroy submerged submarines at a depth of 500m+ and running at speeds up to 80km/h at any time of year and in all weather conditions. The KL-55N has both day and night operations capability. The helicopter can operate in conditions up to sea state 5.
It can detect Low-flying aircraft, helicopters and cruise missiles. The helicopter could also be used to relay reconnaissance information from other helicopters or unmanned air vehicles to a ground station, and to transmit targeting information to attack helicopters.
include navigational equipment for digital terrain maps, ground-proximity warning, obstacle approach systems and information concerning the helicopter's tactical situation.
The core of the on-board avionics suite is powerful solid-state radar. The radio-electronic package automatically controls the helicopter flight over the specified route in any weather and climatic conditions. When the radio- electronic package is on, the antenna is extended and the navigator has elected the operational mode, all further operations are performed
automatically without operator interference. The navigator role is simply to control the systems operation and to duplicate target observation on the display screen.the display screen.
WEAPON SYSTEMS
The helicopter is armed with 4 homing torpedos, 4 torpedo rocket, 14 PLAB 250-120 bombs and 3 OMAB bombs. It is fitted with a heated torpedo bay, ensuring the reliability of weapons in low-temperature weather conditions
