From the daily newspaper The Al-Revir Chronicle, Wednesday 10th August 2004:

Anti-British Riots in Qaraja

From our Qaraja Editor

There were scenes of rioting last night in the capital as the Viceroy (formerly the Sultan) Mus'ad Ibn Nasim was making a public speech today on the proposed changes to the education budget. The trouble started when the army band present followed the Revirian national anthem 'Fly The Free Falcon' with 'God Save the Queen'. While the former was greeted with unanimous cheering the later fiercly divided the crowd with the mood soon turning to violence. It took the police several hours to restore order and not without casualties. Currently the death toll stands at 14, with 126 injured.

There has been considerable political disquiet in the Dominion this week, with many conservatives calling for a return to the Sultanate under Ashraf Ibn Nasim, brother of Mus'ad. Many are unhappy with their new forein Queen and an editorial in The Qaraja Journal has accused the Viceroy of having sold out the country.

Viceroy Mus'ad Ibn Nasim tonight condemed the violence and urged the public to get behind Commonwealth membership and their new Queen.

No official statement has yet been released by HM Queen Elizabeth III, Queen of Al-Revir.
