Massive Decommisioning and Retrofitting

The Agrigentian Marina Militare has decided, after receiving its most recent budget report, that extreme changes must be made to the surface fleet as part of a sound fiscal policy.

To reduce the costs of maintenance, upkeep and manpower the Republic has decided that its navy is far too diverse for its own good, rendering it highly inefficient from a financial standpoint. To rectify this the Admiralty, and SANCOM have decided to decommission a wide range of warships in favor of more flexible role, modular designs.

The Marina Militare's primary downfall is the fact that despite the addition of the aforementioned modern designs to the various Fleets, countless obsolete models still remain in service, and while they often perform admirably, they continue to burn holes in the navy's pocket.

This change of course will be a gradual process, and will require a great deal of time, and energy. The first Fleet to be updated will be the 3rd Fleet, based in San Giuseppe. Second will be the 4th Fleet, third the 5th Fleet, and then the 1st. The 2nd Fleet will be refitted after it returns from its current deployment.

The Marina Militare's many Pursuit Groups are fortunate enough to not have to undergo this ordeal, as they have not suffered from this pack ratting.

The classes to be removed from service are as follows:
DDG-993 Kidd-class destroyers (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/ddg-993.htm)
Animoso class Destroyers (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/europe/durand.htm)
Garibaldi class Aircraft Carriers (CVS) (http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/garibaldi/index.html)
PHM 1 Pegasus class Missile Boats (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/phm-1.htm)

To be upgraded:

-to: Fleet Guardian Arsenal Ships type 2
Re class Catamaran Marine Support Ships
-New Guidance Package and Multifunction Radar

If any nation is willing to purchase the decomissioned ships they may now do so at a greatly reduced price.
