Anti-war protest in Generia City

Generic empire
10-08-2004, 02:02
They were gathered in the large square in front of the Imperial Palace. Hundreds of them, carrying signs with anti-war slogans painted across the faces. These people were the small minority of Generians who disagreed with the recently closed war to bring the Alberian separatists back into the fold. Seceral platforms had been set up, and orators spoke harshly about foreign policy, and the war on the rebels.

Two Imperial military divisions had surrounded the demonstration area, to ensure that the peaceful assembly remained that way. About an hour into the proceedings, just as famed political activist Maria Zhukovny's speech was reaching its frantic climax, one of the demonstrators hurled a homemade explosive at a group of soldiers. The orator, shocked, ran from the podium, her hands held over her head. The soldiers surrounding the area opened fire on the assembled with automatic weapons. Bullets slammed into legs of demonstrators, and they fell to the ground to be trampled by the rest of the mob that the protest had become.

The soldiers blocked the exits to the square, firing wildly into the angry mass. Old T-72 tanks were put to good use, rolling throught the square, and crushing protestors. Some of the rioters drew low calibur weapons and fired at the Imperial army. Their pistols were no match for the overwhelming force of the military division. As teargas, and molotov cocktails filled the air, the last of the soldiers rushed, killing or arresting the last of the demonstrators.

...A large demonstration in the capital turned into a massacre today, as anti-war demonstrators challenged the Imperial military. Of the three hundred some protestors, 230 are confirmed dead, and 54 arrested, including activist Maria Zhukovny. Only sixteen of the demonstrators are unaccounted for, but the GCPD has stated that they will not avoid capture for long...

...In other news, the trial of the first group of captured protestors is set to commence next week. Eleven of the prisoners are to be tried for high treason, unlawful assembly, murder one, and violent assembly. As you know, the punishment for convicted high treason under constitutional law is death. The defense attorneys are not optomistic.

A man in a wheelchair was rolled into the chambers of the Imperial congress by two Generian policemen. He was bandaged from head to toe, and an I.V. was wheeled alongside him. Chancellor Feador Alexeevich eyed the man with disgust. This man was the eighth protester to be tried that day. Everyone to come before him had been convicted of high treason and sentenced. They had all been similarly injured. The man took the stand, and his attorney described the same story of ruthless treatment in captivity that everyone had heard eight times before. After about fifteen minutes, the Chancellor gave his verdict.

"Georgi Razin, you have been found guilty of high treason and have been sentenced to hang by the neck until you are dead. Next!"

The final three cases were heard, each went the same way. At the end of the day, the convicted were led in front of the Parliament building, where a gallows had been assembled. They were executed three at a time, as citizens looked on. They were fascinated. It was not every day a high treason case occured.

For three days, the trials and executions continued, until only three dissenters were left. Maria Zhukov was among the last to be tried. She was convicted and sentenced to death by firing squad. As she stood in the square, blindfolded and awaiting her punishment she exclaimed defiantly:

"Death to Alexei! Long live General Bracco and the Communist Undergr-"
Her words were cut short by a torrent of bullets ripping through her head and chest.

In the coming days, other protests were held in support of Zhukov. Most went off peacefully, but in Sofia, things again turned violent.

A large crowd of one thousand had gathered in the center of Sofia to defy the Emperor. Riot police, and soldiers were on standby. Josef Juriyov was speaking to the people, whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Suddenly they attacked the police. Teargas was deployed, and attack dogs were let loose into the masses. Soldiers fired into the crowd from atop armored vehicles. As the situation developed, more riots began across the city. Vandalism and looting was common law in the bloody streets, as the viscious mob of communist supporters attacked everyone in sight. The local airbase sprung to life, deploying fleets of Mi-24s carrying squads of Praetorians to deal with the situation.

In the southeast corner of the city, children threw rocks at tanks, screaming at the top of their lungs. In the clouds of smoke and teargas, the soldiers could not tell that they were only children, and let loose into the group, cutting them down.

In the Imperial palace, Alexei waited in his personal chambers, observing the broadcasts. A man stood in the shadows behind him, waiting for the Emperor's response.

"This will not stand in my nation. Declare martial law. All protestors are to be shot on sight. Muster the divisions. Hopefully we will not have to go to war with ourself again."

The Imperial army mustered across the Empire. The soldiers took to the streets, clubbing citizens left and right with the butts of their rifles. Frightened citizens holed up in their homes, as soldiers kicked in apartment doors, searching for known demonstrators.

Generia City was in a state of lock down. Military convoys and soldiers packed the streets, enforcing the new declaration of martial law.

In a small apartment building, a family cowered in the dark listening to the sounds of footsteps in the hall. As the footsteps got louder, the door came crashing in, and three soldiers rushed into the room, brandishing AKMs. The eight civilians were pushed against the wall, frisked, and ordered to turn around. An officer walked down the line, scanning each face.

"That's him," said the man. The other two Imperial soldiers forced a young man to his knees, and tied his hands behind his back. He was hauled to his feet, and forced through the door. His wife and daughters sat weeping in the dark room.

Throughout the city the scene was the same. A massive roundup was underway, as soldiers searched for known anti-war demonstrators. Armored vans carted the arrested citizens away to unknown location throughout the empire, as helicopters patrolled the skies.

General Kang looked out the window of his command bunker to see the mob.

"Pathetic beings...get the riot battalion out there ASAP!"

"Yes, general!" came the robotic voice of a soldier.

The riot battalion (500 men) was armed with the latest in non-lethal weapons. Sure, they wouldn't kill you, but it would hurt alot. Every man carried a P90 submachinegun for self-defence, and shock batons were standard. For every riot squad(12 men) there was two M79 grenade launchers with teargas rounds, and two pepperball guns(like a paintball gun, but loaded with pepperspray instead of paint.

The battalion formed rank, using Roman formations. Their sheilds formed a solid wall that the rioters wouldn't be able to cross. They looked pretty scary in their black armor and gasmasks. The gates of the base were opened, and the battalion marched out, fireing teargas and pepperball rounds into the crowd indiscriminantly. The rest of the men rushed in with their shock batons, subdueing the rest. Over 300 arrests were made, and there were no casualties on the part of the riot squads, as the small caliber bullets bounced off their armor.

The situation in Sofia was rapidly degrading. Martial law had not acted as a deterrant here, but had only sparked more riots, murder, and vandalism. Firefighters turned their hoses on large crowds, trying to disperse them as Mi-24s dominated the skies. A fog of teargas covered the city streets as blood mixed with water to flow down the storm drains.

General Nicholas Kobak watched from the open hatch of his T-90 tank as he waited for the call. The riot police were containing the civilians for the time being, but he knew they could not hold out forever. A seawall of shields kept back the surging horde, as they broke windows, threw rocks, and torched shops.

Chief of police Dmitri Feadora shouted through his megaphone for the rioters to disperse as he stood on top of an armored van. A molotov cocktail flew through the air towards the vehicle, and he leapt out of the way.

"It's no use. Give them the go ahead."

The tanks surged forward as the riot police scattered out of the way. Demonstrators stared in awe like deer caught in headlights at the sight of the mechanical monsters boring down on them. The rioters tried to flee, but were cut off by armored personnel carriers. Soldiers filed out, and trained their weapons.

"Fire at will!" came the call from an officer. Bullets slammed into the masses as the tanks continued to bore down on them. The rioters ran like terrified beasts. The soldiers ceased firing, and the police moved in to make their arrests. Five hundred were taken into custody, and three hundred were killed or wounded. As the large crowds began to disperse, police vans moved through the city, arresting anyone in the streets. The truckloads of prisoners were moved to a large detention facility on the southern edge of the city.

A great mob was beginning to assemble on the outskirts of the city, carrying signs, torches, and knives. Most of these demonstrators were from the rural countryside, and smaller cities around the capital. They moved towards the gates of the Doomingsland military installation, yelling slogans such as
"Foreigners out!" and "Warmongers go home!" The rioters shook the fences and iron gates around the facility, working themselves into a fervor. They began to throw rocks at the guards, and brandish boxcutters and low calibur pistols.

Chancellor Feador Alexeevich recieved word of the brewing riot from General Peter Razhin, the man in charge of maintaining order in Generia City.

"Christ, don't these idiots get it? Alright, get a division up there, but stay back, let Doomingsland have some fun."

Around the Roach Busters military base, more crowds were assembling, mostly made up of dispersed rioters from the Sofia and Doomingsland base riots. They were now quite enraged, and were in a complete frenzy. Some carried AKM assault rifles, scavenged from dead soldiers, and many had grenades and molotov cocktails. After chanting wildly for several minutes, the mob rushed the gates of the base, pulling them from their hinges with stolen pickup trucks. The crowd poured in, screaming for vengeance.

WARNING!!! This is graphic!

Private Conrad Deckson narrowly evaded the chunk of feces that was tossed at him by an angry rioter. All around, he heard screaming, ranting, and swearing that would make Eminem blush. Protesters threw bags of urine, pig blood, and other bodily fluids over the gate, splattering some of the guards.
A young, very busty, promiscuous-looking woman with enough make-up to qualify as a circus clown, swaggered over to the dismantled gate, ripped off her top, and said, "Y' ain't gittin' none! Y' ain't gittin' none!" over and over again.
"F***ing fascists!" screamed a curly-haired, freckled, buck-toothed, bespectacled man, running into the base. He punched a guard in the face, knocking him to the ground.
The guard climbed to his feet and smashed his revolver over the man's head, putting a dent in his forehead and causing bloody brain tissue to squirt out. "Little punk," he muttered, but before he could so much as do anything else, three chunks of animal feces were thrown at him; one missed, two hit him in the face.
"Little bastards!" he screamed, spraying tear gas everywhere.
The protesters quickly whipped out gas masks and put them on, then began throwing grenades, generating explosions that killed four guards and caused bloody, severed limbs and organs to fly everywhere.
The guards began firing their machine-guns, filling the protesters with lead and causing blood to gush endless in torrents all over the place.
"What a mess," one of the guards muttered as he delivered a hay maker to a long-haired, bearded, hygienically challenged man who tried to throw a used condom in his face.
The protesters began firing AKM assault rifles, causing many of the soldiers' faces to disintegrate and spew blood everywhere. The air reeked of blood and gunpowder.
Hundreds of protesters were now charging simultaneously, throwing hammers, feces, bags of urine and/or pig blood, used condoms, grenades, stones, spiked balls, etc. The ensuing explosions nearly drowned out the sound of the protesters' screams and the soldiers' curses of rage.
And there was no quick end in sight to the bloodshed.

"Get our divisions there immediately. Tanks, choppers, infantry, I want the whole thing. These bastards don't learn do they?"

After hearing of the violence in the RB base, General Kang ordered a platoon of Abrams(4 tanks) to head over to the base and assist. When they arrived, they saw the seen of carnage unfolding. Protesters threw rocks at the tanks, and others threw molotov cocktails. The tanks were buttoned up, and took no damage, the men were annoyed, nonetheless. After spotting multiple tangos with weapons, they recieved orders to open fire.

The 7.62mm coaxial guns of the M1A2s tore through the crowd, and the tanks secured the gate, allowing RB forces to surround the rest.

Order had more or less been returned to Sofia, as most of the troublemakers had fled, been captured, or were lying face down in a bloody storm drain. Again the tanks and armored vehicles moved through the streets, a stern reminder of the state of martial law that the unruly city was in. Several large detention camps had been established along the outskirts of the city, and thousands of prisoners were being confined inside. By day, armored vans brought more people in, and by night the same vans drove them out, to facilities in Port Belgrade.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Port Belgrade docks

The near entirety of the Port Belgrade port had been transformed into a prison, where captured demonstrators were shipped from the holding cells in Generia City and Sofia. There were no barracks or indoor places open to prisoners. Most of them constructed makeshift tents in the yard, or slept on the muddy ground. They ate some form of artificial gruel, and whatever birds or wharfrats they could catch. The gunboats in the harbor were a constant deterrant for escape. It would have been impossible anyway. Armed guards and tanks were everywhere, with guns always trained on the captives.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Generia City, Generia

The tires screeched outside as a black van came to a halt in front of the old office building. The man was startled as he looked out the window to see the soldiers on the ground. He fumbled with the disk, trying to shove it into the drive so that he could copy the information he needed. He looked out the window again. The soldiers were no where insight.

"They're already inside," he said, gasping from panic.

He finished copying his files, and tore the disk away, shoving it into his pocket. There were footsteps in the hall. He looked towards the window, and the fire escape. He rushed to the window, threw it open, and was revelling in his cunning as the door burst open. Two masked soldiers grabbed the man, and turned him around to face their Captain.

"Peter Czenko?"

The man swallowed hard.

"Come with us," said the soldier, and led the prisoner into the hall.

"What about my family?" the man whimpered.

"They are already taken care of."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The police burst into the apartment, yelling for the people inside to get on the floor. The three women, Czenko's wife and daughters, screamed in terror, as they flattened themselves against the floor boards, hands over their heads.

"Shut up!" demanded one of the policemen, Captain Mikhail Yaroslav. The screams stopped, becoming a dull whimpering.

"You are hereby found guilty of participating in violent protests, consorting with a known enemy of the state, and high treason," the last words dripped from his mouth with a dull menace.

"They're all yours boys. Clean up after you're done."

The Captain left the room, as the soldiers bound and gagged the condemned.

Port Belgrade Holding Facility

General Razhin sat at his desk in the makeshift wooden headquarters building overlooking the holding pens. An officer walked into the small room.

"We got the green light. Parliament's cleared us to execute the ring leaders and end this nonsense. The rest of them get to go home."

"Alright. Let's get to it. Load 'em up. Do it outside the harbor, though. We don't want bodies floating around in there."

----------------------------

The soldiers began their work, gathering up all the supposed leaders of the miniature uprising, and forcing them onto a small freighter. When the cargo was loaded, the freighter left the harbor, and moved about two miled off the Generian coast. The prisoners were lined up on deck, a total of about thirty. A soldier stepped before them. He lifted an official looking document, and began to read.

"Every one of those that stand before me has been charged with the following crimes: Conspiracy against our most glorious Emperor Alexei, Attempting to overthrow Emperor Alexei, leading people against Emperor Alexei, murder one, vandalism, theft, and High Treason. The Imperial congress has found you guilty of the charges against you, and hereby sentences each of you to death. May God have mercy on your souls."

The officer folded the document, and handed it to another man who stood beside him. The prisoners were organized in rows of five.

"Row one, step forward!" commanded another officer. A drum began to roll, as the condemned moved towards the edge of the ship's deck. The railing had been removed for the occasion. Soldiers blindfolded each prisoner, and stepped back. A second group of ten soldiers moved forward, behind the prisoners.

"Shoulder arms!"

The men lifted their rifles, training the barrels on the condemned.

"Take Aim! Fire!"

A loud 'crack' shook the early afternoon calm of the sea, as the soldiers fired in unison. Five splashes resounded shortly after.

"Row two, step forward!"

The procedure was the same for the other four groups. The execution was over in under twenty minutes.

----------------------------------

At the return of the freighter, the remaining prisoners were told of what had happened, as a deterrent, and were released.

Chancellor Alexeevich picked up the phone.

"So it's over? Good."

He put the reciever back on the hook, and turned to an aid who waited nearby. He scribbled something on a piece of paper, sealed it in an envelope, and handed it to the aid.

"Take this to the Emperor. He will be most pleased."

Your ships currently being held in trust by the Praetonian Government are currently being searched for illegal substances and equipment and the crews are being question in accordance with our law. We would, however, ask you and your allies to dissist in your threats. Not only have we done nothing illegal but their own military 'might' is no match for our, esspecially the strength of their navies. I, and I am sure nor they, would like to see a war insitigated by them.
