With the apparent formation of a new country to the east of Kassareich, weather patterns changed dramatically. Under a normal year, only 2 months would result in weather below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. This year, all 12 months were under 0 Celcius. Snows have reached 12 feet deep. Nazi officials built shelters for the people, as the majority of other buildings have collapsed under the weight of the snow. If this weather continues, the snows could reach glacial proportions, having layers of snow up to 40 meters deep, covering the entire nation.

The current most plausible reason is that the normal warm waters that would flow to the direct east of Kassareich were redirected around the newly formed landmass to the east, causing the cold fronts to take over above Kassareich. It is plausible to beleive that the landmass to the east would be warmer.
