Great Imperial Navy World Cruise (open, fun RP)

OOC: Cause I'm bored and cause no one has done this in a little while... I'm hoping it will turn into an ongoing RP so that individual nations can just kinda drift in and out while the Fleet is in their port.

Veritasean News Network
Live Broadcast Outside Highland Castle, Home of the High Chancellor

A short, broad shouldered blonde female of about thirty years is standing center screen. Behind her is the high turrets of Highland Castle where snipers can be seen stationed behind the walls. She takes a deep breath, looks into the camera, and begins speaking.

"Hello and good evening. Welcome to Veritasean News Network. I'm Anne Sheffield and we're live at Highland Castle, home of the High Chancellor and headquarters for the Veritasean government. Just a few minutes ago the Chancellor made an historic announcement-the likes of which have never before occured here in Unum Veritas. In an effort to increase foreign acknowledgement of the Imperial Navy and in order to strengthen favorable opinions of the country abroad a collection of the finest ships in the fleets will be composed and sent on a tour of nations throughout the world. They'll conduct airshows, gunnery practice, tours, and other such public relations activities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is already gearing up to begin accepting requests for the fleet's presence at various foreign ports. The Ministry of Defence, although apparently not too thrilled with the idea of losing some of its ships for a "waste of time PR stunt" (as one source called it), has already given the group the title of The Veritasean Great Blue Fleet. Currently we have no specifics regarding the makeup of the Fleet, however we'll bring you further developments as they come in. This is Anne Sheffield reporting live for Veritasean News Network."

With that the screen cut back to the anchor who proceeded to relate the usual national and international news stories. Screens across the world, in the monitoring rooms of various national intelligence organizations also switched back to the anchor and then off. Before the morning, the offer would be on the desks of countless foreign leaders.

PM's Office, Government House, Navarre, The Freethinkers

The Right Honourable Ted Barham sat in his nightgown watching the TV in the PM's office on the top floor of government house. A few crumbs remained of what had been his early breakfast, and a beaker of orange juice sat half empty by its side. A few memos sat on his desk, the usual mixture of reports, briefings, schedules and the various faxes and letters from the heads of each department. Good stuff.

A sealed envelope from the foreign ministry sat beneath a report on inner-city crime, and Barham opened it as a refrain from watching the softcore erotica that pervaded on Freethinker Television till the kiddies woke up. Someone should out those licensing laws, Barham often thought. He pulled out the letter inside, unfolded it and started reading.

"Yadda yadda yadda, fleet on grand tour....yadda yadda yadda, show off to the world....yadda yad...might be a front for inv...blah blah blah....hmmm, gunnery shows and air displays....nice." He mumbled. He scratched out a reply for his secretary to beef up later, and turned back to the TV.

Official Communique

The great maritime nation of the Freethinkers would like to welcome the touring naval force of Unum Veritas. We feel this visit may well both benefit our countries and provide our respective navies to compare and contrast their tactics and equipment.

We eagerly await a reply.

1st Air Lieutenant Johnathan Korpa watched the news from his RF-1's T.V. screen, a privalage few have earned. He smirked, he wanted to see this Air Show. And since he had a month's worth of vacation days, why not visit? So, he reached for his radio, he set up the closest Unum Veritas frequency, and spoke. Note he was already over water, and he was just cruising.

"This is Johnathan Korpa of the 2nd Tiger Squadran to any nearby Unum Veritas government radio station, I'd like to come to that little Air Show you're showing." He only remembered Air Show, nothing of ships. "Well? Mind if I fly there too?"

Grand Duke's Office, Hampton Palace

Grand Duke Reginald Leopold I sat behind his desk in his daily Early Morning Meeting with Foreign Minister Lord Easton, Prime Minister Cessar, and RN Chief of Staff and National Security Advisor Fleet Admiral Lord Rosecrans. After the usually domestic talk, agenda for the week, and light breakfast, Lord Easton brought to the Grand Duke's attention a letter recevied from Unum Veritas. Taking the letter out of his briefcase, Lord Easton passed it to the Grand Duke to read. As the Grand Duke read the letter, the other three man sat in utter silence waiting for the Grand Duke to look up.

"I have to say," the Grand Duke said while looking at his three closest advisors, "this is a great opportunity. This could be more attention to the Royal Navy and Hamptonshire itself."

Leaning forward in his chair Lord Easton quickly added "I wholly agree with you, Highness. Not only would we gain attention, we could open closer relations with Unum Veritas as well as compare the Royal Navy to their naval forces."

"I don't know," Prime Minister Cessar said while taking a bite of a Danish, "I'm not entire comfortable with allowing foreign vessels to come so close to our shores. I seriously doubt anything will happen, but I still don't know."

While the Prime Minister was speaking the Grand Duke was looking at Fleet Admiral Lord Rosecrans. Like always he was sitting silently, just thinking. After the Prime Minister finished speaking, Lord Rosecrans responded; "Your Highness, I think we should do this. With your permission I'll draft a response immediately."

Leaning back in his chair, the Grand Duke sighed and nodded.

The Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire would be honored if the touring squadron from Unum Veritas would grace us with the honor if its appearance. It is our hope that such a visit may cemet diplomatic relations between our two nations.

Imperial Estate, Third Floor, Breakfast Nook

Emperor Alexander II of The Crown Empire was enjoying some cereal and toast with salmonberry jam when the tall glass doors to his new breakfast nook opened. A messenger came in timidly, bowing when he stopped near the emperor at his table. "My lord, the Ministry of Diplomacy has gathered a message from a broadcast made in Unum Veritas." The messenger removed a manilla folder from his coat and took out a sheet of paper. Placing it before the emperor, the message completely detailed the news report by Anne Sheffield.

The emperor leaned in, his mouth stuffed with toast and salmonberry jam. He read it silently to himself, and he looked up to the aide after he was finished. "This seems to be a perfect opportunity to match our navy against theirs and see if we need an overhaul; I've been planning on scrapping all of our fleets and then replace them with up-to-date vessels, if ours are not already up to date. Also, it would be interesting to have foreigners drop by... why the last time we had foreigners here was way back when Iansisle sent an envoy, I believe. Respond and say that we are willing participants in this tour."

The messenger bowed and left, making sure that he would get to work on the communique his master ordered. Soon, it was dispatched toward Veritasean soil.

Prime Minister Michal Kozanecki sits down in his chair within the walls of his grand office. The TV was on and the news report about part of Veritasean's Imperial Navy going on a tour seemed to catch his attention. He thought to himself "this will be great to get everyone’s off all the cloning we are funding and all the racism that’s been going around lately in Kozate". He immediately turned and buzzed his secretary and asked her to respond to any memos concerning the Imperial Navy's request to come ashore" She responded "Yes Michal, But, about last night, I think we really should talk about the stupid mistake of having sex in your office." Michal simply didn't respond....

"Sir," a young communications officer called, "we just received a message from an aircraft several miles to our south. Apparently it originated from the Island of Rose. They've asked permission to view our airshow. It was said in a slightly condescending voice too, if I might add."
"Our 'air show' eh?" the officer of the watch said, "My pet peeve is people who don't listen to all the instructions or the entirety of a message. What say we show them we are not just an air show?"
The officer turned to an enlistee manning one of the radar screens with a somewhat malevolent grin on his face.
"Chief Marshal, what do we have on CAP?"
"Sir," the chief replied with a grin of his own, "We've got two Ultra Toms, a Sea Raptor, and an X-29 circling on CAP."
"Well, what say you we send the Toms up to say hello to our friend?"
"It sounds like a good plan to me, sir."
"Make it so."
"What reply should I make, sir," the communications noncom asked.
"None, we'll let the pilots do our talking," the officer replied, "Now, once our fighters are closing in on the aircraft, have a few of our AA ships light it up with their radars. Then the pilots can make contact."

Ten Minutes Later

"Archangel One to TIOR aircraft," one of the Ultra Tomcat pilots said over an open frequency, "As you can see, you are now covered by two fighters and are currently lit up by several AEGIS and other radars. Please state your intentions..."

OOC- I'll wait for TIOR's response before moving on to the actual tour.

The pilot looked to his sides. S**t he thought, eh, he started talking through the radio.

"Hey man, I just want to see the show from the comfort of my plane, and maybe you can stop by the Island too. Just say you're passing through and you can do your little show there, nothing wrong with that hm? Mind if I join your tour too? I need a vacation..."

He stopped, he looked at the two aircraft next to him, waving his hand at each of them.

The pilots response was relayed to the CIC aboard the Trident, where the Admiral had been awakened and was currently sitting, sipping a cup of coffee.
"Sure, he can accompany us, and we'll add TIOR to our list of nations. Instruct him to land on the Elessar, asssuming his ship is capable of carrier landings. If not then I don't think he'll be able to join us."

The Admiral's message was relayed to the TIOR plane by the Veritasean fighters.

To the King of Unum Veritas

We would be honoured if you would consider extending your tour to our humble nation, ourselves an island, ourselves reliant upon the Navy to safeguard our green and pleasant land. They would be most welcome at the Daxley Naval base, home of the Western Fleet.

Whilst your personnel are there, we would be delighted if your Admiral or Admirals present would join the Grand Admiral, Western Fleet, and his staff, aboard our greatest Battleship, the MSS Hunter, for lunch.

With the TIOR representatives safely aboard, the fleet continued making its way to Tokarev. The ships were not the grey color typical of Veritasean warships; they'd been painted maroon, navy, and gold (the Veritasean national colors) to further personify the country. Several days passed as the ships made their way across the world's oceans, until they finally reached the territorial waters of Tokarev.

With Tokarev's shores just off the horizon, contact was made with the Tokarev government, informing them of the fleet's arrival. The ships changed formation, putting the largest ships in the back and progressing down to the smallest craft in front. Anchors were dropped and final preparations were made for the ceremony that would commence the following morning.

Fleet Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto, the Tokarev Chief of Maritime Staff, looked on as the order to DRESS SHIP was given and as dozens of flags broke out over his flagship, the superdreadnought Tokarev, and the Yamato. A special ensign appeared over the mainmast in honor of the visiting squadron. The Tokarev flotilla's leadship and eight battleships lined the entrance to Tokyo Harbor as a squadron of jetplanes performed maneuevers high above, then suddenly swept down to water level.

A resounding royal salute was given to the visiting fleet from the guns of the two Shigas, the massive fortifications protecting the entrance to the harbor, and the guns from the Tokyo Bay Fleet. All active warships were ablaze with flags flapping in the brisk breeze. The sky was lit by twenty-one gun salutes from the 1st Imperial Artillery, the fleet, and the planes roaring overhead. The jetty was lined with Imperial Marines, a guard of warriors in ancient Samuraii armour, and a band playing the visiting fleet's National Anthem.

The executive officers of the visiting fleet crossed the jetty to a special Imperial train waiting to whisk them up to Tokyo. A brilliant red carpet had been laid in Yokosuka Station, and at the end was Prince Naruhiko Higashikuni, in the uniform of a Field Marhsal and Admiral of the Fleet, the Prime Marshallisimo (Minister) of Tokarev. Behind him, the station's marble pillars had been sheathed in scarlet bunting bearing the flags of the two nations adorned with palms, lilies, and exotic flowers.

With Prince Naruhiko was the Lord Lieutenant of the County of Tokyo, Isamu Cho; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lieutenant-General Kiyotake Kawaguchi; the Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Prince Aritomo Yamagata; the Chief of Maritime Staff, Fleet Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto; Chief of Aviation Staff, Field Marshal Prince Iwao Oyama; and the lord mayor, sheriff, and commissioner of police of Tokyo. Opposite the tunnel roadway stood the guard of honor in brilliant Samurai armor.

A state coach drawn by six Akhalteke horses with mounted postillions in a livery of scarlet and gold lace, drew up opposite the train. The Prime Marshallisimo and the visiting officers boarded the coach as a band of the Imperial Guard played the visitor's anthem followed by the Tokarev anthem, Kimigayo (His Majesty's Reign). A sovereign escort of the 1st Life Guards and the Emperor's Guard of the 1st Battalion of the Chrysanthemum Guards, with gleaming breastplates, swords, and mirrorlike boots, preceded the carriage. The procession passed packed crowds, tens of thousands strong, waving flags of both countries, and cheering all along the circuitous route heading through the most beautiful and ancient parts of Tokyo and through the wrought-iron gates of the Imperial Palace.

Ushered into the Imperial Palace, the visiting officers were introduced to Emperor Shokahito in full ceremonial garb. The Prime Marshallisimo addressed the officers in a warm, avuncular mannar, trying to put them at ease, "I hope, my friends, that everyone is giving you everything you want while you are here."

That evening a splendid feast was held in the Palace's nineteenth-century Banqueting Hall. Samurai of the Emperor's Bodyguard in scarlet and gold armor were stationed at intervals around the magnificent hall, with footmen behind every crimson chair. The guests were seated at two long tables, resplendent with the Imperial Goldplate, while the string band of the Imperial Artillery played in the gallery.

At this great dinner, the Prime Marshallisimo spoke of the visit as a "symbol of friendship which has for long united our two Empires. It is extremely gratifying to me that the happy relations existing between our two countries have well stood the strain and stress of our times, and will continue as one of the essential factors in the maintenance of the world's peace."

The next day a great tour of Tokyo was given to the state visitors, beginning at a session of the House of Representatives, then the House of Councillors. The lord mayor of Tokyo, accompanied by the city's officials, had their turn to welcome the guests at the inevitable hearty dinner at a mansion overlooking the city. The Minister of Finance and governor of the Bank of Tokarev, Major-General Shiro Ishii, gave the visiting entourage a tour of the vaults of the Empire, including a rare glimpse of its fabled bullion rooms.

The visitors were of course sent to visit some of the major military establishments, including a review of the Chrystanthemum Guard, a trooping of the colors at the Military Academy, a parade of cavalry in front of the Palace before a demonstration of their martial and equestrian skills. This was all followed by an airshow of over three hundred aircraft, where the visitors witnessed aerial acrobatics, intricate maneuevers, bombing runs, and realistic dogfights complete with spiraling planes and parachuting pilots.

The Prime Marshallisimo also inviting the dignitaries to a game of golf, and a visit to the best plays at the best theatres in the city, from comedy to drama. Finally, the Emperor presented the Admiral of the Veritas Fleet with the Chrysanthemum Seal of the Order of the Golden Eagle. He was also named an honorary member of the Privy Council and an Admiral of the Fleet in the Tokarev Navy. A special gift was given to the Admiral to take back to the Unum Veritas chief of state, honoring him with the honorary position of Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal and Field Marshal in the Tokarev Armed Forces.

Admiral Bellows stood at the quay about to board a small transport that would return him to his flagship. In front of him stood several top Tokarev diplomats, including the Chief of State, and behind them was an imposing cityscape. Bellows grasped a long, thin box in his hand which he extended towards Prince Naruhiko. The prince opened it and lifted a gracefully curved sword out. The mahogany handle was accented by gold and silver inlays and gold script flowed down the blade.
"It says 'The bearer of this sword is one of honor and courage and a noble friend of the Veritasean Empire'," the Admiral said fondly, "Few in the world can read it now, because the characters are from an ancient Veritasean language that has been nearly extinct for centuries. The finest swordsman in Unum Veritas crafted this blade and can only do so under a direct order from the High Chancellor. Few such weapons have ever been created and even fewer are given to those of other nationalities. The High Chancellor wished for you to have one as a sign of further good relations between our two nations."
The Admiral then bowed politely and respectfully and walked down the ladder to the waiting launch which immediately sped off towards the looming shadow of the various warships.

Once Admiral Bellows was safely aboard the carrier, a signal was sent out to all the ships within the formation. As one, flags unfurled and crews came on deck in their dress uniforms, saluting in the direction of Tokarev. Several shots were fired from one of the Iowa class battleships in honor of the Tokarev leadership and a final flight of F/A-18s performed the "Missing Man" flyby. The crews then marched back to their quarters and the various vessels began to pull away from the Tokarev shore. They formed a loose pattern and set a course for The Freethinkers.

A few days later the collection of ships began tightening their formation; The Freethinkers was just off the horizon. The battleships and aircraft carriers fell to the rear of the group, while the smaller and faster vessels sped forward. Two groups of fighters were put aloft and began forming up for aerial maneuvers above the ships. Dress uniforms were prepped and flags were prepared for the following day's festivities.
