After intensive and multi-year negotiations, the Danish Council of State and the Royal Congress of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire have come to an agreement on the issue of Hamptonian-Danish Union. Denmark shall remain a semi-independent nation under the protection of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire through the Hamptonian League. After recent wars in the continent of Europe, the Danish people realized that in order to remain free of hostile influence, foreign assisstance was needed. Looking to the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire, which was originally settled by Danish colonists almost a millenia ago, the Folketing official openned a dialgoue with the Grand Duchy.

The Protectorate Kingdom of Denmark will be given full home rule with the Danish Monarch as Co-Head of State with the Hamptonian Grand Duke as the other Co-Head of State. The Danish Prime Minister will remain Head of Government and the Folketing will remain completely sovereign in all internal and domestic matters. In foreign affairs and military concerns the Folketing will have to submit a Proposal of Action to the Hamptonian Royal Senate. If the Proposal fails, the Co-Heads of State of the Protectorate Kingdom of Denmark may issue a "Joint Royal Declaration" in support of the Folketing.

In return for Hamptonian diplomatic and military protection, the Danish will allow the Royal Armed Forces to establish military bases in strategic locations throughout Denmark. The Royal Armed Forces of Hamptonshire will take up the duty of primary defense of Denmark with the Danish Royal Armed Forces taking up a Civil Defense role. The Grand Duchy will pay 80% of all costs related to the defense of Denmark.

One of the more controversal measures of the Union is the yearly payment of $250 million to the Treasury of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire. While all of the money will be set aside for use back in Denmark, it is reported that a full 45% of the Danish population is against this "Protectorate Charge".

In a recent vote in the 14 counties (amter) and 275 municipalities (kommuner) 61% of the Danish people voted in favor of Union. The highest pro-votes came from the Copenhagen region while a near majority of voters in the north and extreme west voted against Union. In response to this, Grand Duke Reginald Leopold I and his Cabinet will be touring Denmark over the coming weeks to address the concerns of the Danish people. The Danish Social Democratic Party has pledged its full support.

It is expected that within 5 years integration will be nearly complete and Royal Armed Forces bases will be erected with the Protectorate Kingdom of Denmark. HNN has also learned that the Danish Monarch will forever be given the title of Prince(ss) Elector, Duke (Duchess) of Denmark within the Hamptonian Royal Structure.

Denmark will enter into a customs union, however the Danish Krone will still be used, Danish citizens will automatically possess Hamptonian Citizenship, and Danes will pay no income taxes.

In the grand tradition of Europe, the people of the newly created Protectorate Kingdom of Denmark took to the streets to protest, and support, the decision to join the Hamptonian League and fall under the protection of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire.

In Copenhagen, local police estimated that 120,000 Danes participated in a Pro-Union rally outside of the newly constructed Protectorate Liason Office in central Copenhagen.

At the same time, anti-Union protesters in the northern city of Alborg marched in the Downtown District to protest the Union of Hamptonshire and Denmark. Organizers stated that 60,000 people took part of the protest, however police place the number only at 40,000.

In related news, indications have surfaced that Queen Margaret III of Denmark is seriously considering abdicating the Throne in favor of her son, Crown Prince Harold. While the Queen has been publicly warm to the Union, in private she is said to be cool to the idea of Protectorate status. The Crown Prince, however, is an ardant supporter of Union and of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire.

The Federation of Morathania stand behind our allies Hamptonshire. We think that this Political Union will lead to a better future for both Hamptonshire and the Kingdom of Denmark. We wish the Grand Duchy the best of luck and hope that this will bring new found power and freedom to the Danish people.

While the road to full Union and Integration will be long and not without difficulties, this undertaking was done for the expressed purpose of improving the lives of all Hamptonians and Danes. Within a generation it is hoped that the people of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire and the Protectorate Kingdom of Denmark cannot image life without the current Union.

The Most Supreme Dictator was at his desk listening to the radio and playing video games when the Diplomatic Advisor, Victor Ambrose, ran in. "Dan! I have breaking news!" The MSD clicked off the radio and paused the game, "What's up? Make it quick, I just got my momentum." The MSD pretended to fire an automatic weapon and throw a grenade. "Well Dan, I was glancing over the Hamptonian Embassy's News Brief. It said that they Grand Duchy has formed a union with Denmark." The MSD looked around. "Did they blow the place up?" The Advisor replied no. "Do we have a stake in Denmark at the moment?" The Advisor shook his head. "Are we affected by this in any way? " The Advisor shook his head and walked out.

Dan shook his head and laughed. "Hey, Victor!" He walked back in. "Do me a favor and wish the Hamptonians good luck. Tell them that the Great Autocracy is happy for them." The Advisor nodded his head and walked out.

As a member of the Hamptonian League, a Protectorate of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire, and the second half of the Hamptonshire-Denmark Union, the Royal Government of the Protectorate Kingdom of Denmark hereby officially transfers official sovereignity to the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire.

As the representative of the Grand Duke of Hamptonshire and as Secretary-General of the Hamptonian League, it is my duty to insure the good governance and continued success of Denmark and all her people. While there are those that are strongly opposed to our Union, a vast majority of both Hamptonians and Danes alike bask in the glory of the coming years. The task of national unity and understanding will be long and difficult, but in the end We shall prevail.

OOC: First of all, keep things IC. Secondly, the Danes are keeping their domestic sovereignity. Being pragmatic people, don't you think the Danes could see that they are surrounded by very unstable nations and forces. A union with a large and powerful nation would ensure that the Danish way of life would survive. Additionally, if you would have read the entire thread thus far, Hamptonshire is ethnically Danish and we have always had very close ties to Denmark.

The Speak of the House stood up to outline the next planned topic of discussion, "The next item of business will be the recent political union between Hamptonshire and Denmark, as proposed by The Right Honourable Tiberius Crassus, MP"

Prime Minister Publius was sitting in the middle of the government front benches. He had taken some time from the Victoria meeting to attend this debate, because even though he saw little of interest anything which involved Hamptonshire these days was highly controversial. Tiberius Crassus stood up and began to speak. He stood from the Government back-benches, meaning he held no cabinet position, "Mr Speaker, today is a sad day for the world. Today we see Hamptonshire finally destroy the sovereignty of a once proud European Empire. Today we saw Denmark finally fall!" This was met with jeers from the pro-Hamptonian Liberal-Imperialist and Conservative benches, but approving noises and shouts of "hear, hear" from most of the House.

"I put it to you, my Right Honourable friend, that what they are doing here is no different from what we have done with colonies around the world," spoke an anti-Hamptonian, but more importantly anti-Imperialist, Green Party MP.

"When Praetonia colonises we do it with respect and honour. In Eropid, we legally purchased the land upon which we built only to have it stolen by Hamptonshire" there were murmers of agreement, "In Manium, we built a thriving colony on wasted land. We transformed the area into a true part of our great nation and we gave all who live there the same democratic rights that all Praetonians have. We do not steal nations under the pretence of protection!" The shouts of agreement overcame the jeers of disapproval as Crassus sat down.

Publius sighed. He really didn't care for another Hamptonshire debate, esspecially when he could not really say anything. As Prime Minister he had to present a vaguely amicable relationship with Hamptonshire, whereas he as a person cared very little for the nation, and wanted to see all ties severed. Crassus had stood up again, "This is a terrible day, Mr Speaker. This it the day that a once proud and powerful nation has fallen to Hamptonian oppression!"

Official Statement from the Office of the Prime Minister

It is my honor as my first act as Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire to announce the implimentation of the Danish Voting Act.

Each Danish county (amter) has officially been recognized as a Province of the Grand Duchy. Accordingly Denmark shall be represented in the Royal Senate by 28 Senators. Denmark is also being allocated 5 seats in the Royal House of Representatives. Until such a time as elections can take place*, early next year, Queen Margaret III of Denmark and the Danish Parliament will appoint Interm Royal Congressmembers.

While we expect to have a sizeably minority of the Danish population choose a Danish Nationalist candidate for the Royal Congress, it is my hope, and the hope of all Hamptonians and Danes that over time we will grow closer.

Two nations, One System.

1. Denmark the real life nation, not Denmark the NS Nation, which I'm sure there isn't one. People annex real life nations all the time.

2. He can use as many pictures as he want, people take pictures all the time to represent their leaders.

3. He can bump it as much as he wants until the mods tell him too. What can you do? :P
