"Today, the residents of Southland City awoke to a strange sight. Twelve miles off the coast, the tall, peaked Tromp's Island is producing smoke. This is the most recent activity of a volcano deemed to be dormant. The volcano was last reported to have made smoke back in 1578 but did not erupt.
Geologists and volcanologists believe that the last major eruption occured some 120,000 years ago. Experts and professionals in the fields relating to volcanic activity have flocked to Southland City to examine this new activity, and to monitor it.
And now for weather, with Steve..."

The TV lights came on, and an obviously distraught President Boudinot walked toward his podium.
"Today, the volcano on Tromp's Island made more than smoke. A small earthquake was felt in Southland City and the volcano itself is throwing up more smoke into the sky. Tonight, I ask for help from the international community to help us predict what this volcano might do, and how Kaufmanstad might deal with it. I, along with the Kaufmanstad Army and the Mayor of Southland City, have come up with an evacuation plan of the city, which will begin as soon as we may ascertain the plans of Tromp's Island.
Good Night."

The news stations had been covering the events around the Tromp's Island Volcano like a blanket. Every shudder, and smoke cloud had a camera trained in on it.
Then, the news was interrupted. The picture faded in, and it was President Boudinot.
"I have come forward to you tonight to bring an urgent message to the Republic, and to the people of Southland City. Tromp's Island, according to volcanologists from the University of Kaufmansburg, have determined that it is preparing for an immense eruption.
With this fact presented before me, I have declared Southland City and the surrounding area to be in a state of emergency, and that the city is to be evacuated. Troops from the army and the Police Department of Southland City will be conducting an orderly evacuation to prevent looting.
Finally, I ask humbly from the international community for any help they may be willing to offer.
