Today, President Schaeffer has signed a bill which will in effect be the third disarmament bill ever passed in the Aequatian Republic. The Static Detterrent Disarmament Bill will insure that all silo-based weapons such as the Minuteman III ICBM bases on the Daniel, Roger, and Lucan Islands as well as the bases positioned across the nation will be shut down and demolished, the missiles disarmed and deconstructed and the personnel transfered to other posts.
Considered a large step in removing nuclear weapons from the Aequatian arsenal is however only a small step as the Navy's submarine-based nuclear detterent and the Army and Navy's tactical nuclear arsenal shall remain on active service and recieve increased funding should the need arise to use such weapons. In addition, President Schaeffer has declared that if Aequatio's nuclear weapons are ever to be use, they shall not be used against civilian targets such as cities, only military targets.
