Joint military exercises in Swedish Dominsions confirmed

Forces readied to move

DPUO's Ministry of Defence today confirmed speculation that the armed forces will hold a joint exercises with the nation of Swedish Dominions.

The exercises will be conducted in the vicinity of New Sotckholm and will include a simulated amphibious attack by Naval Infantry units and Naval Air Forces, aiming to take two enemy CPs, one in the Svea forest and the other in the nearby mountains. New Stockholm is to be bypassed in order to avoid causing civil inconvenience.

After the exercise the two sides will switch roles. Naval exercises will also be conducted, including simulated shore bombardments and a hypothetical naval battle between attacking and defending forces, again with the sides reversing roles after the conclusion of the exercise.

We will simulate Guerilla attacks and such in the Svea Forest....
It's a very dense forest.

The attack begins. Carrier-based aircraft are used to make precision strikes on Swedish defensive positions and rear-area targets such as supply convoys and fuel/ammo dumps with ASMs and air defence sites with ARMs, while shipborne cruise missiles are used to strike directly at the beach defences. Ka-29s are employed to airlift Spetznaz around the otherwise unclimbable cliffed flanks of the Swedish position, guarded by high-flying Su-33Bs with Anti-Radiation Missiles. Alligator class LSTs are also employed to move up to the beach and deploy T-80UM tanks, which pin down Swedish defences still further with HE fire. Infantry advance towards the top of the beach as 2S9 mobile mortar/howitzers begin their landing.

Losses:

5 Su-33Bs, 1 damaged
5 Ka-29s, 3 damaged
200 men dead, 350 casualties
10 T-80s lost, 6 disabled
12 2S9s lost, 7 disabled
1 LST disabled

10 JAS 39 Gripen intercepted the SU-33s and the coastal batteries started to bombard the Carriers out at sea.

Infantary charged at the Spetznaz.
Some MG Nest on the top of the cliff started to fire at the infantary. And AT gunners striked at the T-80 tanks.

losses:
4 JAS 39 GRIPEN Shot down
40 men dead.
2 MG Nest destroyed.

The Swedish defenders were evidently benefitting from the terrain being to their advantage. The two carriers from which the air support was being launched now launched 12 Su-32FNUs with laser-guided bombs to destroy selected strongpoints, while the Su-33s were used to provide air superiority against the Gripens. 2S9s were now also used to bombard the Swedish positions atop the cliff, and T-80s to destroy MG nests with direct fire using HE-FRAG shells. The T-80s provided also cover for engineers and flamethrower troops as they crawled forward, and began to engage the MG and ATG positions at close range. SAM systems aboard the ships downed some aircraft, but they were mostly out of effective range of anything bar the SA-N-6, which was not really ideal for this task. Meanwhile above Spetznaz teams were able in most cases to best the Swedish infantry.

Further losses: 11 T-80s, 4 2S9s, 80 infantry, 10 Spetznaz, 4 Su-33Bs, 1 Su-32FNU

the MGs and the ATG was under fire and the Infantary batteling the Spetznaz, but one thing remained, the tank rush.

40 Leopard 2A5 tanks entered the battefield and started to shoot at the Spetznaz and some started a barrage at the T80 tanks on the beach.

The remaining JAS 39 Gripens fired at the LST's that was unloading T80s.

losses:

150 men dead 200 wounded
16 Leopard 2A5 damaged
2 JAS 39 Downed
7 MG nests destroyed

The rush by Leopards had not been anticipated fully. Few of the T-80s had APFSDS shells ready, and it cost them dearly. The Leopards were able to kill more than 20 T-80s before they were finally beaten back by repeated attacks using bombs and cannon by Su-32FNUs and by fire from the remaining T-80s. Su-39s had been launched prior to the attack, but arrived far too late to make much impact on the tank rush. The main work of killing them fell to the Ka-29s, which in turn fell to Gripens in large numbers as they launched their AT-9s. The Spetznaz on the beah had to retreat as rapidly as possible behind hillocks, in dips, anywhere to avoid the tanks. They then began to engage the tanks with AT-13s.

The second wave of landing ships began to approach, ready to disgorge more men, more guns, more tanks onto the beach.

The Leopards continued the steady barrage at the beach despite the losses.
The MGN continued their rain of fire in desperation.
The last JAS was downed as they were trying to intercept SU-39.
The defending force is out of airsupport until the new squadron arrive.

1500 Soldiers arrived from New Stockholm and was deployed on the beach togheter with 20 Leopards which was deployed with Chinooks. The Chinooks was under heavy fired and two was downed.

Looses:

100 Men
13 Leopards
2 JAS 39
5 MGN
2 Chinooks

With Swedish air support gone for the moment, the Frogfoots were able to cause substantial damage to their targets, the remaining tanks and MG bunkers, as Su-33s kept the air clear for the seocnd wave of tanks, guns and infantry to offload. The T-80s had now finally reorganised and, on command from their leader, began to outflank the Leopards on the beach, aiming to swarm up the remaining exits before Swedish air power could return, and then cut off the defenders and establish a strong anti-armour defence to prevent further reinforcement. The Swedish infantry were now also falling victim to the next echelon landing, finding themselves between the jaws of an enemy vice.

We were gonna hold this beach until all of us were dead.
The Men at the beach were taking high losses. The Leopard 2s was retreated from the beach to serve as artillery fire from the highground. But it was too late. The MGN was destroyed and nothing was stopping the endless horde.
In the last second 7 JAS 39s and 4 A-10 Warthhogs arrived and started to bomb the beach. The Morale of the troops were fairly good, but they would soon retreat.

losses:

7 MGN
560 men dead
12 Leopard 2
7 ATG
1 JAS 39

The enemy aircraft were quickly engaged by Su-33Bs now swarming toward the beach having rearmed and refuelled in the brief lull in the air battle. The second echelon pushed hard on the heels of the first, boosting the morale of the DPUO troops, and the ZSU-23-4 anti-aircraft guns being offloaded in the second wave took their toll on the A-10s.

Losses:

50 men
8 tanks
1 ZSU-23-4
2 Su-33Bs
2 Su-39Bs
2 Su-32FNUs
4 2S9s

The moral of the Swedish troops was at the bottom when they saw one JAS after the other go down. They fought all they could but they was too overwhelmed. The Leopards was barraging and the A-10s was bombing the ZSUs. But then the order came, retreat.
the remaining 200 troops fleed and abandoned the beach,

losses:

950 men
All Tanks wiped out
7 JAS 39
2 A-10

DPUO Post-battle anaysis

What went well

*Air support particularly effective at neutralising enemy armour concentrations;
*2S9s proved highly effective when used as artillery to suppress strongpoints;
*Tanks proved effective against enemy armour;
*Heliborne landings highly successful;
*Attacks by aircraft on rear installations appear succesful;
*Precision guided weapons effective against enemy rear-line targets;
*C3 maintained at all times to a high standard;
*Troops operated well under fire and showed high cohesion.

What went badly

*Tanks unprepared for enemy armoured thrust, due to wide spacing and loading of HE-FRAG shells;
*ECM under-used;
*2S9 armour too thin;
*Suppression of shore positions extremely difficult with existing weapons, requiring use of flamethrower and engineer units;
*Lack of shipborne artillery necessitated landing of vulnerable 2S9s;
*Escort ships did not approach close in shore and were thus unable to use SAM systems against enemy aircraft;
*Disabling of 1 LST by mine, though unavoidable, was nonetheless able to hamper offloading of tanks.

Conclusions

*Require offshore fire support for successful landings to be executed without high casualities;
*Require escort ships to approach closer to shore wherever possible;
*Recommend fitment of all LSTs with some form of anti-mine system;
*Recommend greater deployment of SAM and AAA systems in first wave of attack;
*Recommend deployment of heavier artillery (e.g. 2S19) in landings to support with direct fire.

As the convoy procedes through the forests the swedish troops are laying low in groups of 20 scattered throughout the forest.

The Armor divisions are also scattered throughout the path of the convoy.
The helicopters too.

But when the DPUO planes passes a checkpoint a group of hidden AA missiles starts shooting against the planes.

And when the spetznaz passes their checkpoint they are attack by 3 Leopard tanks and around 40 infantarymen.

SAM systems are decoyed to a great extent, but 3 aircraft are lost and another 3 damaged. Meanwhile, the Spetznaz hit the deck, moving closer to the infantrymen to engage them with grenades and close-range fire. Anti-tank missileers begin to engage the Swedish armour. Artillery is called in where possible on the Swedish SAM units, both tube and rocket weapons being employed.

Of the 165 Spetznaz, there are currently 10 dead and 16 wounded.

The small guerilla force retreated into the forest as planned but 17 men died and 1 tank was dissabled.

To a response of the retreat a group of 5 Apache Longbows and 4 BO-105 was called in to wipe out the Spetznaz. And airstrikes with F-117 was conducted against DPUO artillery...

SA-19B SAMs began to engage the F-117s. Two 2S6Ms were lost, along with 9 guns and 4 disabled. 6 MRLS were also destroyed.

Infantry now began to come up behind the Spetznaz units, which were being used to pin down is possible enemy forces. MANPADS (MAN-Portable Air Defence Systems) were used to some effect against the helicopters. Su-33Bs were sent to engage the enemy aircraft also, as Su-39s returned to try and catch the retreating enemy on the move.

Several infantry squads were also ordered to cover the flanks of the advance against infiltration.

Casualties: 1 Su-33B downed, 20 infantrymen lost to enemy fire (9 dead, 11 wounded)
