As an avid gamer and a new nation, I hereby officially request the following information:

How do we play this game?

I set up a country, started a dossier, and joined a region, now what?

I would appreciate either written word or enlightening links.

Greetings from Xeraph!

Welcome to NS.

Actually, the best way to learn the game is to read the existing post. As a new nation, your pop is small, and your economy bare bones. You may want to ally yourself with a larger nation/alliance, or go it alone for a while.
I'd suggest waiting about 8 weeks before you think of getting involved in a military situation, as you need to buy weapons, which will be limited at first by the growth of your economy.
If you wish to explore joining Xeraph, please let me know.

I'd recommend reading the "stickies", definitely. Then start reading through the regular threads. That way, you get an idea of how to role play in these forums, and learn which nations you might want to ally with.

If you want a brief description of NS before you read the massive stickies, then I can offer you one.

Here in NationStates, we exercise a system known as "freeform roleplay," meaning that there is (almost) no tracking system to guage our numbers. We can have as much military as we want, as much land, as much resources, etc.
However, you want to keep this within reason. Often times people abuse this system, and they are called "GodModders". They make it so their nation is OMFGz INVINCIBLE!!1 or something like that. They could have too advanced tech for a nation their size, they could move their troops too fast, whatever. The point is, keep everything as realistic and balanced as possible.
That's not saying that if you attack a 2 billion pop nation that he should say he has less people to accomidate for the fact that you have only 5 million, but it's to say that he can't have instantly teleporting troops and guns that ownz0r a planet without doing the proper Research and Development first.
