Separatists launch bombing campaign in Drabikstan

Kibardograd - Car bombs exploded throughout the United Socialist States of Drabikstan (USSD) this morning killing at least 15 people. Dnever separatists claimed responsibility for the actions soon after. Military and government installations were the main targets in the attacks although most of the dead were reported to be civilians. Three explosions rocked the country’s capital Kibardograd. One blast targeted the headquarters of Drabikstan's notorious secret service agency. However, only limited damage was caused to the building.

Drabikstan, located in the Caucasus region, has suffered from much instability since the republic of 14 million gained independence. The breakaway region of Dnever, located in south of Drabikstan, has been fighting the central government since independence in an attempt to secede. Drabikstan's economy has suffered as a result of the conflict with many of its citizens now living in poverty. Drabikstan's President Xer Kibard has vowed to "crush" the separatists.

"We shall not back down against these terrorists who murder innocent people," Kibard said on television soon after the attacks. "Dnever will forever remain part of Drabikstan no matter what the cost."

However, many outside observers believe Kibard may be forced to negotiate with the separatists considering the failure of his military to reign in the rebels. Recent polls indicate many Drabikstanis believe Dnever should be granted independence from Drabikstan. Kibard has rejected this view saying, "it would be the end of Drabikstan as we know it."

Separatist forces in the Dnever region claim Kibard is a communist dictator and that his authoritarian rule has forced them to breakaway from Drabikstan. UN reports agree claiming Drabikstan is "...ruled without fear or favour by a psychotic dictator." Kibard has declared himself president for life.

Drabikstan slams Karzikistan, praises Simianonia

Drabikstan's Foreign Minister Natalya Simonova slammed the government of Karzikistan for supporting separatists in Drabikstan's Dnever region. "The leaders of Karzikistan have declared a secret war against a nation that only seeks peace," Simonova said at a recent press conference. "Karzikistan must stop undermining our sovereignty and fuelling a conflict that is killing innocent people." She also warned Drabikstan may be forced to seek outside help if Karzikistan continued interfering in Drabikstan's affairs. The government of Drabikstan also confirmed it was purchasing MiG-21 fighter jets as part of its effort to strengthen the country's military.

During the press conference, Foreign Minister Simonova went on to praise the government of Simianonia for its offers of help against the separatists. "Our two nations both face the threat of terrorism everyday. We welcome further military co-operation between our nations....it is only natural that we become close allies." Simianonia was the first nation to offer help after the recent bombings by Dnever separatists in Drabikstan that killed 18 people. Drabikstan's President Kibard said he was happy to meet Simianonian officials in order to discuss a military alliance.

The Great House of Fed2k condems these actions and Karzikistan 's comments. If they do not withdraw their statement we will be forced to punish them.

Simianonian officials left for Drabikstan today to meet their counterparts in a closed door meeting to discuss anti-terrorist strategies.

Simianonian Secretary of Foreign Affairs Lisa Fondle and Drabikstani President Xer Kibard today announced a new strategic partnership between the two nations in the area of fighting terrorism. The announcement followed a secret meeting between the two in Kibardograd where they discussed counter-terrorism following the recent increase of violence by Dnever separatists. Details are yet to be released on the details of the meeting although President Kibard did comment, "Today is historic as our isolated nation found a true friend and ally...the era of terror is soon coming to an end."

He carefully knocked on the door three times. Although the entire province of Dnever was in revolt, the dictator Kibard's spies were everywhere.

Walking inside, the rebel threw his overcoat on a hanger.

"What would you like Isaac?" asked the bartender. The room was deserted except for the two.

"Kentucky tea." he responded. Knowing that this was indeed a rebel fighter and not a spy, the bartender opened a secret crawlspace. Through this damp, dark corridor, was the headquarters for the cell responsible for the attacks.

As Isaac emerged from the shadows, he found the other four members, alive and well after the botched attack. The circular room was austere, with only two tables and four stiff-backed wooden chairs and a lamp that gave off minimal light.

"Well then, team," said Isaac, in a cold, unnerving tone, "what have we learned from this failure?"

As the other three men looked at the ground in shame, the leader Isaac berated them mercillessly.

"There were to be NO CIVILIAN CASUALTIES! David, why the hell did you detonate the bomb so early?! We not only failed to destroy the headquarters of the secret police, we also caused deaths of bystanders! You know that the death of the innocent only galvanizes the masses to follow the madman."

"Captain, I'm sorry!" apologized the other terrorist. "There was a policeman who was watching me, and I thought I saw him pull a gun!"

Civil War Erupts in Drabikstan

Full-scale civil war has erupted in Drabikstan after separatists in the Dnever region declared independence from the rest of the country. The Drabikstani government has responded by firing Scud-B ballistic missiles at separatist targets in the region. Reports indicate the unofficial Dnever parliament building being used by the separatist government has been severely damaged by the missile attacks. Drabikstan’s President Xer Kibard ordered the military action to be taken after the separatist government in Dnever announced its official independence. “These terrorists will not be allowed to steal our land,” Drabik stated. “Dnever belongs to Drabikstan and we shall fight to defend our nation.”

However, the President has yet to order a full-scale ground assault against the separatist’s forces. The Drabikstani government withdrew its troops from the Dnever region some time ago as a peace gesture to the local Dnever population. Military analysts believe the Drabikstani military is not strong enough to defeat the separatist movement and that any ground war would be a disaster for the government forces. “Kibard does not want to send the troops in because he knows it will be a failure,” Journalist Oleg Yeltsin commented. “They would be marching into a guerrilla war that would cause more damage than good.”

The Dnever region itself is comprised of many smaller areas including a small province called Naxivan. The people of Naxivan support neither the central communist government of Drabikstan nor the Dnever separatists. Naxivan has remained a safe haven in the Dnever region due to its neutrality in the conflict.

With Dnever’s recent declaration of independence, the people of Naxivan have found themselves cut off from the rest of Drabikstan and now being forced to take sides. “We support neither the separatists, nor Kibard’s government,” local Naxivanian leader Josef Putin stated. “However, Naxivan still remains part of Drabikstan despite the actions of Dnever leaders.” This conflict between Drabikstan and Dnever has caused many Naxivanians to demand their region’s own independence. “We don’t want to be part of either Drabikstan or a potential Dnever state,” said Dimitri Oshnov, another local Naxivanian leader. “The only solution to this problem is either Dnever remains part of Drabikstan or we will be forced to seek independence also.” Drabikstan’s President Xer Kibard warned the Dnever separatists that any attempt to secede might cause the entire country to break up into smaller states. “My government holds Drabikstan together...if one region is allowed to breakaway, our nation will disintegrate completely.”

Kibard also warned Karzikistan that it had committed acts of war by supporting the Dnever rebels. “The tyrants of Karzikistan are playing with fire,” the President stated. The small cell of terrorists put on the Drabikstani army uniforms they had taken from the bodies of several plundering soldiers.

I never thought I would have to wear this wretched uniform again. thought Isaac as he put the gray BDU on. It represented everything that he hated about the regime: the oppression, the terror, and the violence that was a part of daily life.

But he still went through with it. The old clothing that he kept from his days in the army was somewhat small, but it didn't matter. Isaac could still aim his M-8 carbine just as well as he could back when he was a soldier of Drabikstan, and that was all that he cared about.

The other four men shouldered their weapons and fell in for inspection.

There was a change in plans; considering that Dnever was in open revolt, a group of Drabikstani infantry traipsing about without being shot by the natives would be incredibly suspicious.

Instead, the five would inflitrate the ranks of the Drabikstan forces and enter the mainland, where they would have a perfect chance to strike against the foreigners.

The cell quickly made their way to the evac center via army railway. The trains had fallen into disrepair, considering that Kibard never bothered funding the military adequately. Where normal soldiers would ride a comfortable, if unassuming, high-speed train, the Drabikstan system was composed of ancient boxcars, reminescent of the Nazi cars used to ship "undesirables" to the gas chambers. Uncomfortable couldn't describe the ride; tiring was more accurate.

Isaac Renard fell asleep on the train, his nerves and fears wiped away by the exhaustion of the rails. After what seemed like an etenity, the train screeched to a halt; the fighters had arrived at the station...

The buffer zone with prevent conflict but also act as a blockade of Dnever. This blockade will halt the supply of weapons into the Dnever region but also strangle the separatists economically. Any attempt by the Dnever separatists or their Karzikistani allies to cross the buffer zone will result in full-scale military operations against the offending parties."

Air strikes target separatist leader

The leader of the Dnever separatists Emir Alam al-Carab narrowly survived an air strike by the Drabikstani Air Force today. However, reports indicate several of his aides were killed in the attack.

The Drabikstani military used newly acquired MiG-29 fighter jets in the attack against the separatist leadership. The Drabikstani defence minister admitted the air strikes were deliberately targeting Alam al-Carab. The air strikes followed the bombardment of separatist positions by Drabikstani Scud missiles. However, Drabikstan is yet to deploy ground troops in Dnever.

Lasatania, Zexarn and Lorkhan offer help to Drabikstan

Kibardograd - President Xer Kibard today announced the creation of a buffer zone between Dnever and the rest of Drabikstan which would also act as a blockade against the rogue region. The governments of Lasatania, Zexarn and Lorkhan have all offered to deploy forces alongside the Drabikstani military to patrol the buffer zone and maintain the blockade against Dnever. "We accept the kind offers by Lasatania, Zexarn and Lorkhan and welcome their military forces on our soil," Kibard stated. This follows Karzikistan's decision to illegally send its own forces into Dnever to support the separatists.

Any large contract would more than likely secure a reduction in price. We thank you for your offer of assistance and welcome the deployment of your military forces to the buffer zone around the troubled Dnever region.

However, as I'm sure you leadership agrees, the separatist forces in Dnever are being sustained and supported by Karzikistan. Karzikistan has illegally deployed forces on Drabikstani soil by moving combat troops into Dnever in an attempt to support their terrorist friends. Our sovereignty is being violated by the Karzikistan's actions. The Karzikistani regime has announced its goal is to overthrow the people's communist government of Drabikstan.

Our military planners have studied ways in which we can strike Karzikistani interests in retaliation. However, our nation does not have the capability to carry out such military action due to geographic considerations. We had agreed that a precision bombing campaign against Karzikistani military installations would be the best option.

The Lasatanian Air Force is equiped with long-range Tu-22 bombers capable of a strike against Karzikistani soil. Would your government be prepared to allow its Tu-22 aircraft to be used in a military operation against the rogue regime of Karzikistan?

In fact I would caution you against such a measure, for the current conflict in central Europe could spill over and if it did we may find ourselves having to defend our nation from all directions.."

Prokayev: "Komrade, I accept your criticism of our past failure, but we have since that unfortunate incident tightened up our aiming systems. In fact, with the introduction of the new LAS-SSX1, which we sourced from the Russian Kh-101, we can strike anywhere within a 3000k radius with 95% accuracy, as long as we have a map of the region..

Crisis in Drabikstan worsens as Naxivan prepares to secede also

The crisis in the United Socialist States of Drabikstan worsened today with another region, Naxivan, saying it was preparing to secede in response to the Dnever conflict. The people of Naxivan support neither the central communist government of Drabikstan nor the Dnever separatists.

With Dnever’s recent declaration of independence, the people of Naxivan have found themselves cut off from the rest of Drabikstan and now being forced to take sides. “We don’t want to be part of either Drabikstan or a potential Dnever state,” said Dimitri Oshnov, a local Naxivanian leader. “Now that Dnever has declared independence, we have been forced to seek independence also.” Drabikstan’s President Xer Kibard previously warned the Dnever separatists that any attempt to secede might cause the entire country to break up into smaller states. “My government holds Drabikstan together...if one region is allowed to breakaway, our nation will disintegrate completely.”

There was no response from the Drabikstani government regarding the emerging Naxivan situation. Many believe President Kibard may have conceded that granting Dnever independence is the only way to prevent a full-scale war that would destroy the USSD. Limited military strikes against the separatists in Dnever have so far proven unsuccessful. If Dnever is allowed to secede, there is no doubt Naxivan would follow. Unconfirmed reports indicate government officials may be in secret negotiations with the Dnever separatists although President Kibard has rejected these claims saying, "we shall never negotiate with terrorists."

OOC: OK, heres a proposal... working on a squadron basis..

In exchange for an air force presence (prob 2 air bases with 3 squadrons in each, we would be willing to sell up to 10 squadrons of any aircraft without an X designation for 50% rate.

If army bases are added, this would go up to 20 and if a naval base is included, we would be willing to provide 5 squadrons of aircraft for free.

X-designation aircraft will be available after around 5 NS years (by which time, LAF tech will be up one level probably - if I can find plans etc for new aircraft!)

Units deployed in your nation will be under my command and airforce units deployed will probably comprise some of the latest tech we have - I have to test it after all!!

Dnever leader overthrown as Karzikistan threatens genocide

Alam Al-Carab, leader of the Dnever separatists and terror mastermind, was overthrown and executed by hardline members of his unofficial government this morning. It is believed he was executed due to his willingness to negotiate with the Drabikstani government. The separatist hardliners, backed by Karzikistan, firmly opposed a peaceful settlement to the conflict and have vowed to overthrow the central communist government of President Xer Kibard. The Kibard government confirmed Alam Al-Carab had been secretly negotiating with Drabikstani officials despite the fact the Drabikstani military had attempted to kill him in an air strike only days before.

Al-Carab may have been able to survive military air strikes but not his fellow rebels. The terrorist regime in Karzikistan is alleged to have ordered Alam Al-Carab’s execution. Karzikistan today also revealed it was preparing a partition plan for the Dnever region and warned it was planning genocide against ethnic Drabikstanis in the Dnever region. In response, Drabikstan has told its military to launch a full-scale invasion of Dnever if the separatists and their allies begin ethnic cleansing against the ethnic Drabikstani population.

President Kibard has declared that, “war is now inevitable due to the actions of the mass murderers ruling Karzikistan”. The President also sent a thinly veiled threat to the regime in Karzikistan. “The days of the ruling despots in Karzikistan are numbered,” the President said. The government of Drabikstan said it had begun appealing for international action to be taken against Karzikistan. The People’s Republic of Lasatania has already begun establishing a military base in Drabikstan as part of an agreement with the government.

The new separatist leadership in Dnever has also claimed the province of Naxivan as part of its territory. In response, Naxivanian leaders have announced that their province is preparing to seek its own independence from both Dnever and the rest of Drabikstan. Asked about Naxivan, President Xer Kibard said he would defend the province until “the very last man” although he refused to answer questions about Naxivan’s intentions to secede.

He put down the LasIntel report and looked at the map in front of him.. the bivouac was cool in the afternoon heat and he often retreated here to take his mind of the infernal racket of the troops outside..

He moved towards his field desk and sat down, he dug out the bottle of whisky and a glass concealed in the box underneath. He poured the drink slowly, savouring the sound it made as it splashed into the tumbler..

The Drabikstani capital Drabikograd was unusually quiet for a sunny day. Of course the city had become quiet since terrorist bombs exploded throughout Kibardograd several weeks ago but this was too quiet.

Drabikstan's Foreign Minister Natalya Simonova looked out of the window at the streets below from the conference room located on the top story of the Kibardograd People's Hotel. Her fellow diplomatic staff and aides sat around the large table on the other side of the grand and lavish room. The Naxivanian delegation wanted a 'neutral' location to discuss the future of Naxivan as a province of the United Socialist States of Drabikstan. They decided to use the Kibardograd People's Hotel instead of the usual government offices used to discuss such delicate national matters. Natalya Simonova smiled to herself when she remembered the hotel, like all other enterprise in Drabikstan, was government owned. Well, all enterprise in Drabikstan apart from that in the Dnever region.

Simonova suddenly snapped back to reality from her daydream at the thought of Dnever. Yes, it was because of criminals, warlords and militias in the Dnever region that this whole mess had started. Separatists launch bombing campaign in Drabikstan

Kibardograd - Car bombs exploded throughout the United Socialist States of Drabikstan (USSD) this morning killing at least 15 people. Dnever separatists claimed responsibility for the actions soon after. Military and government installations were the main targets in the attacks although most of the dead were reported to be civilians. Three explosions rocked the country’s capital Kibardograd. One blast targeted the headquarters of Drabikstan's notorious secret service agency. However, only limited damage was caused to the building.

Drabikstan, located in the Caucasus region, has suffered from much instability since the republic of 14 million gained independence. The breakaway region of Dnever, located in south of Drabikstan, has been fighting the central government since independence in an attempt to secede. Drabikstan's economy has suffered as a result of the conflict with many of its citizens now living in poverty. Drabikstan's President Xer Kibard has vowed to "crush" the separatists.

"We shall not back down against these terrorists who murder innocent people," Kibard said on television soon after the attacks. "Dnever will forever remain part of Drabikstan no matter what the cost."

However, many outside observers believe Kibard may be forced to negotiate with the separatists considering the failure of his military to reign in the rebels. Recent polls indicate many Drabikstanis believe Dnever should be granted independence from Drabikstan. Kibard has rejected this view saying, "it would be the end of Drabikstan as we know it."

Separatist forces in the Dnever region claim Kibard is a communist dictator and that his authoritarian rule has forced them to breakaway from Drabikstan. UN reports agree claiming Drabikstan is "...ruled without fear or favour by a psychotic dictator." Kibard has declared himself president for life.

Besides, Special Police Force Headquarters is one of the most secure government installations in the nation. Getting a bomb anywhere near that place will be difficult. Detonating that bomb before we shot your terrorists dead would be a lot more harder.

Karzikistan withdraws from Dnever after Lorkhan threatens military action

Karzikistan withdrew its troops from Drabikstan's Dnever region today after the government of Lorkhan threatened to intervene. Lorkhan had threatened massive air strikes against Karzikistan unless it ended its policy of ethnic cleansing in Dnever and removed its forces from Drabikstani territory. The Lorkhan government, one of four countries involved in maintaining a blockade against the breakaway Dnever region, began deploying large military forces off the coast of Karzikistan to pressure its regime to withdraw from Drabikstan.

Drabikstan's President Xer Kibard thanked the government of Lorkhan for its major role in forcing Karzikistan to withdraw from Dnever. "Our allies in Lorkhan came to our aid today and prevented a humanitarian disaster from happening at the hands of the Karzikistani despots," Kibard stated. "Our territory is now free of enemy forces."

"We didn't want Drabikstan to become the next Yugoslavia," Kibard stated. Drabikstan had launched limited military strikes against the Dnever separatists although the government was reluctant to launch a full-scale ground war. In the end, a full-scale war over Dnever was narrowly prevented.

A war over Dnever would have destabilized the entire country and threatened Kibard's communist government. Another factor that led to a peaceful settlement was the threat of intervention by several other nations if major conflict did erupt.

The Dnever separatist government is expected to make an official declaration of independence in the following days. Naxivan has welcomed a peaceful settlement while maintaining its loyalty to Drabikstan. Drabikstan and Naxivan recently signed a treaty bringing the Union of Independent States (UIS) into creation.

Drabikstan invites Dnever to join UIS

Kibardograd - Drabikstan's President Xer Kibard today announced his government had invited Dnever to join the Union of Independent States (UIS). "The conflict beteen Drabikstan and Dnever is in the past now," Kibard stated. "Drabikstan looks foward to future co-operation with the new Dnever government and we believe the UIS is the best way to promote this."

Kibard's announcement came a day after Drabikstan and Naxivan concluded joint UIS military maneuvers. The five-day training exercise involved thousands of Drabikstani and Naxivanian troops backed by tanks, artillery systems, helicopter gunships, jet fighters and other military aircraft.
