WNBS News
A massive mining operation has commenced in northern Simianonia for the rare element iridium.
A large deposit is thought to be located in the area, probably caused by a large meteorite impact thousands of years ago.
The element is used in many high technology devices.
The Simianonia government is apparently hoarding the element for some unknown reason but appears willing to trade small quantities for technology and weapons.

Greetings
I am secretary for International Trade, Don Long.
Simianonia is willing to trade up to one hundred tonnes of Iridium. this is a first come first served deal and once the iridium is gone it is gone for good. We will take UN endorsments in exchange or nuclear reactor technology.
Anyone involved in this sale will also get first choice on our technological discoveries involving iridium.
Goo day.
