I think the reason for the difference is because the percentages of the GDP can be changed when calling up the PHP file which creates the results, which then returns different economic details for a nation based on the percentages.
You can see the percentages shown in the browser's address bar when the results page is shown.

And yes, the results usually show you have a large amount of money to spend on military hardware. Its just a shame that we can't actually use it to by real weapons in the game, and have more control over our economies.
Just imagine the size of the wars we could have!

There's also this calculator.....

Just put your name over mine.

But the one you made is pretty cool. I like how it has how much you could afford.

Thirdgeek sets its own percentages, based off what the NationStates XML feed gives. For example, look at what the game has about my nations economy.

www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/nationdata.cgi?nation=Doujin

The above is the raw XML data from NationStates (http://www.nationstates.net), the game itself.

www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?nation=Doujin

The above is what Thirdgeek does with that XML feed.

Someone want to elinghten me on how the thirdgeek works? When I try to specify a region (add ?region=Wysteria) it feeds me BS about there being no such nation as some nation. When i specify ?nation=Solid_water, it tells me there's no such nation in the region. When I specify both at the same time, it gives me the same as with just the region.

Your region is too large, the calculator can't handle that many nations in a region.

Bah. T3h Sux. I'll have you know parseing such a region for every nation's UN ranking takes much longer. And that script never hangs because it outputs the data as its getting it.

I should really get that project finished...

Oh, while you're here, still selling the Doujin class carriers?

No, I don't believe it does output the data as it gets it - as data is kept in a database.

Interesting - what are you using for this project? Php? I'm just learning php myself and would be interested in seeing the code if you are. Currently I maintain the UN rankings for about 80 nations every day by hand and if I had a script I could expand that list exponentially. Salusa has said he will add the UN rankings to the XML feed, but that will be a while. I have a nice XML parser for PHP, but I don't have one for text and don't know enough yet to make one.

Funny.. let's compare.

http://www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?nation=The%20Resi%20Corporation

http://www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?nation=Doujin

Specifically...

Doujin Economic Statistics
Exchange Rate: 1 Imperial Mark = $1.8058
Gross Domestic Product: $52,882,626,788,136.66
GDP Per Capita: $37,638.88
Consumption: $21,994,010,500,000.00
Government Budget: $32,801,692,307,343.76
Government Expenditures: $31,161,607,691,976.57
Goverment Waste: $1,640,084,615,367.19
Exports: $5,936,777,076,531.18
Imports: $6,209,768,480,371.09
Trade Deficit: $272,991,403,839.91

The Resi Corporation Economic Statistics
Exchange Rate: 1 Resi Credit = $1.3719
Gross Domestic Product: $56,808,395,845,544.19
GDP Per Capita: $21,724.05
Consumption: $0.00
Government Budget: $67,754,273,440,000.00
Government Expenditures: $54,203,418,752,000.00
Goverment Waste: $13,550,854,688,000.00
Exports: $9,183,061,893,544.19
Imports: $6,578,084,800,000.00
Trade Surplus: $2,604,977,093,544.19

While you may have a trade surplus, my GDP is almost higher than yours. And your government budget exceeds that of your GDP by about 11 trillion dollars, most likely because since you have a 100% tax rate you need to buy food and general supplies for your population. *shrug*

As for the tax rate, I just figure that's because my citizens buy literally everything from the corporation, so all the money they make comes back to us. I mean, how else logically could that work?
