Genesis Torpedoe Deployed at Normandeicht

Germanische Zustande

Massive bodies moved through the blackness of the Normandeicht system. There was a collapsed, charred body, the remnant of the sun. Wreckage of the space stations and thousands of ships floated among the emptiness. A small, white vessel sped through the system. Sweeping blue beams scanned the nearby bodies, from dust to asteroids the size of a moon of Atheos.

"Admiral, the Genesis torpedo is ready for launch, power-up sequence is completed"

The bridge of the science ship was still. They were hoping that the Shivans had left no serveilence ships. Every scan had turned up inconclusive, but there was still the chance.

"Put is into position, helm." Uttured the admiral. He stood, hands clasped behind his back, facing toward the holoscreen. He had barely escaped Normandeicht alive, and every day he relived the terrible sight of his men and the planet being eaten by an invisible foe.

The nanites had destroyed Normandeicht, however, one nanite was found inactive. It was sent to Heidleburg, the research world of the Federation, for study. So far all attempts to destroy them had proved futile, but they would find something.

A glowing cylinder of light shot from the torpedoe tube of the science vessel, straight for the center of the system. The entire ship watched screens on every deck as a great sphere of white light spread from the center of where Normandeicht's sun once was, and would be again.

"Take us out, lieutenant," the admiral spoke. "We'll come back later, to check how playing God worked. Hopefully His anger is past."

As the small ship jumped to warp, the entire ship hoped for a new future, and rest assured, a Monolith would be constructed and set in-system. The names of every person who fought, who died or lived, every ship, and every nation that defended Normandeicht would be inscribed, so that all races or ships who saw it would know. So that the brave would live forever in their glory and honor.

Normandeicht had been a barren, desolate, desert world. Military installations were easily hiddin in the great, unending dunes of this dry, hostile world.

IMO Normandeicht was not so.

IMO Normandeicht (In Memoriam Of), also called Norman the Second, was green and blue. It was a lush, tropical world, mountains, jungles, seas... It was completely unlike the desolation of the previous world.

Federated military branches had already begun rebuilding bases, Starbases, Shipyards, and even a few civilian inhabitations. Progress was going well, and Normandeicht II turned out to be a wonderful change of events.

And then there was the matter of the Battle for Normandeicht.

Construction had began upon a monolith, a pylon forty miles high, and one hundred feet at a side. Inscriptions of the Nations that defended, the ships that orbited, and even the men and women who served on those ships and who fought upon the surface. It detailed why this great battle was fought:

"Here, within this now-reborn system, nations cast aside their animosity and united against a common foe. They fought as men and women of the same brotherhood, defending this outpost of Humanitry from destruction by a merciless foe. A race bent on the destruction of all Mankind met here on the field of battle, and the defenders of Normandeicht valiently defended to the last. Although this one battle was lost in the end, It has been rebuilt, and this monument now stands to honor those ESUS, AON, and USF soldiers who bravely fought and died here..."

And so, though the Shivans had victored in one battle, they would never truly win. The Human spirit cannot be dominated by ANY creature...

OOC: From what I remember, that wasn't the reason. The instabilities happened because Dr. David Marcus used protomatter in the device. Protomatter was an unstable substance that had been condemned by almost every scientist and banned from use. Its presence in the matrix rendered the resulting planet unstable and caused it to age at a rapid pace.

As Hampton Shire stated, the Genesis Device was never meant to be deployed in the nebula like that. Anyone who has read "The Genesis Report" knows that protomatter was NOT the reason for the destruction of the Genesis planet. Basically, the Genesis Effect exhausted all of its energy in creating a planet from the Mutara Nebula, thus, when the planet finally formed, there was no energy left sustain it.

I have this to say to Germanische Zustande, although you have indeed beaten me to a Genesis plot, you have opened Pandora's Box. You're not the only one that can play God around here.

No, the protomatter was the key. The 'haven' that was created beneath Regula was thanks to the Genesis device, which uses protomatter. The instablility arose from the fact that a planet was not 'remade' be created from a nebula resulting in a weak 'matrix'.

Additionally, it should be noted that exposing protomatter to a sun is a very, very bad thing.

Very, very bad.

Our genesis device reorganizes matter into the shapes of planets and stars by converting energy released from protomatter into usable material. At least, I think that is how the stupid thing works...

Anyway, point is, we re-created a system that had been destroyed.

Sigh...

Heres the 'Official Description':

The Genesis Device was a sophisticated technological innovation designed to alleviate sociological problems such as overpopulation and limited food supplies. It was developed by a team of scientists led by Dr. Carol Marcus and her son, Dr. David Marcus.

The device initiated a process of rapid terraforming, by which previously uninhabitable worlds could be turned into class M planets ready for colonization. This was accomplished by launching the Genesis Device, which was torpedo-shaped, into a lifeless planet. Upon impact, the device caused a massive explosion, reducing the entire area to subatomic particles. A preprogrammed matrix then reassembled these subatomic particles into the desired configuration, creating an atmosphere and environment in a matter of hours that was inhabitable by humans, whatever the test area’s original composition.

Development and testing of the Genesis Device took place during a year-long period on a space station orbiting Regula, a class D planetoid. Test were carried out by Dr. Carol Marcus and her team in three stages, the first of which involved experiments conducted in a laboratory on the space station. In the second stage, the device was deployed within lifeless underground cavern deep inside the Regula planetoid. The intention of the third stage of testing was to introduce the device to a lifeless space body, such as a moon or barren planet.

Unfortunately, if the device was detonated where life already existed, it could prove to be the most powerful doomsday weapon ever invented, destroying all life in favor of its new matrix.

ic:

Federal cutters now patroled every Federated system, and Normandeicht II was no exception. The first defense StarBase had been completed, and another three were nearing so. Federated military contractors had already finished the massive Shipyards, and were placing the latest weapons platforms on Normandeicht's new moon.

Again it could be said, "And about Normandeicht were ringed many defenses."
(maybe you BFG people'll recognize that...)

However, a great ruins of a city of the Ancestors had been buried beneath the surface of Normadeicht's dunes at the time of it's demise. Great wonders had been unearthed there, but the Shivans had destroyed it. This was probably the greatest loss of the battle. With the knowledge there was to be gained, we may have found a way to defeat the Shivans once and for all...

But that was in the past now.

Captain Jack Weischt, captain of the FSS Ubernocht, stood on the bridge of his ship, staring out into the cold reaches of space. There, the Starbase hung majestically over the vivid blue sea of Normandeicht. And a little to the right the great shipyard complex orbited over the main continent; Thats where they were headed.

Captain Weischt had received orders that he would be given a new command. This had surprised him greatly. He had been captain of the Ubernocht only three months. But Intelligence had picked him, of all the captains in the entire Federated Navy.

And so, he found himself in a system he had just recently seen destroyed. Twenty-four Navy vessels had been destroyed that day, all but the Reagan. It was that monstrous vessel that he had docked his small picket craft right before it Jumped.

The Ubernocht had pulled nearly to the Shipyards, and there, sitting within one of the construction cages, sat a black-red ship. It wasn't very large, no larger than a Destroyer, but it screamed with power. It did not have the customary prow of all Navy vessels, but instead there was a dish depression into a rounded hull. Within that depression a deep, red glow eminated. It seemed like a smouldering fire, caught in the house it was burning. The ship had no visible bridge, no visible weapons pods, but everywhere this strange black metal alloy seemed to compose everything. The ship was rounded, very smooth, very fluidic. It was like nothing Jack had ever seen.

Most Navy vessels were white and blue, standard colors of the Federation.(must make new flag). They had a bow like that of ancient steam ships, straight vertically and the ship curved to it. All federation vessels were relatively thin, so when they rammed or charged an enemy line, they weren't that easy to hit.

While Jack was admiring this strange new vessel, his ship had already docked.

"Cap'n?" His XO tapped his shoulder.

"Huh. Uh, What?" Richard shook himself out of his reverie.

"Sir, we've docked," replied the somewhat amused XO replied.

Jack brushed past him and headed for the docking port. He had to see this new ship.

ooc: Normandeicht is now also a R&D and experimental facility. That is a new ship designed to fight shivans.

Now, the teleport is not instantaneous. It operates by folding space, sort of like connecting the opposite sides of a piece of paper. The vessel or whatever then moves over to the other point. viola.

Right now maximum effective range is 2,000 light years. The stepping stone method is used to travel distances longer. However, we are not very far into this technology, so we tend to stick with Warp Drive and Slipspace...

ic:

The small black vessel powered up. Lines between armor plating began to glow a deep red. With no sign of any propulsion, it moved out from the shipyard's docking arms.

Jack held his hands, clasped behind his back, in the traditional Navy way. His new ship was absolutely ingenious. A new form of propulsion, all-new weapons, state-of-the-art sensors, and even a new armor type. It was unlike anything in the Federated Navy.

And his job was suicide.

He was to take this ship to a system, known to be a Shivan stronghold. They were going to test this ship in battle against the Shivans, and a single pod would return the information to the Federation. The ship carried a device that would automatically vaporize everything within a kilometer, ensuring that the enemy would be unable to study any remains.

He had said his final goodbyes to his family, and then boarded the attack craft. He would never see the Federation again.

As the ship prepared for the Fold, Jack placed his hand upon the viewport and stared one last time at the teal seas of Normandeicht.
