"The Execution of convicted felon Mr Samuel Heartings was today stayed by Presdential Order. Mr Samuel Heartings was convicted of four counts of murder along with numerous counts of treason just six months ago. However there has been a significant public outcry to the use of the death penalty, which was presumed to have been abolished 400 years ago.

Dispite a division in the Senate over the issue, President Baccheus is rumoured to have been so personally opposed to the use of the death penalty, perticully based on an archiac treason law, that he invoked his Tribunican Power over matters of justice.

Only time will tell whether or not the state will actually carry out the Death Penalty by Way of Fire as ordered by a unanimous verdict of the Council of Rotovian Divinity . In the meantime Goverment Spokespersons have made it clear this decision had nothing to do with growing foreign pressure on the issue."
