The XM1001 provides excellent short-range capability against personnel and light armored vehicles (from muzzle to 300 meters). The XM1001 was originally designed with the Mk 19 Mod 3 grenade machine gun in mind, but due to high demand for other applications, further development took place and the XM1001 was re-designated the XM1001-H (High Velocity), with an otherwise identical cartridge designed for low velocity grenade launchers (XM1001-L) for a wide variety of specialized functions.

This cartridge is a flechette-dispensing grenade that will be used by combat forces as a force multiplier against ground troops in: (1) exposed positions; (2) extremely rugged terrain; (3) dense vegetation; (4) military operations in urban environment; and (5) other scenarios where the effectiveness and user-safety of the current Mk 19 family of ammunition is limited.

The XM1001 40MM grenade contains 115, two-inch long flechettes, with half of those packed within the grenade facing rearward. Upon exiting the muzzle of the grenade launcher, an expulsion charge detonates, expelling the flechettes. Upon expulsion, the rearward facing flechettes rotate in-flight until they are forward facing.

Both the XM1001-L and XM1001-H are being introduced to the international market in two phases.

To help offset cost of research, manufacture, and testing, the rounds will be offered at the initial rate of $30 per round for evaluation purposes with a maximum order of 10,000 rounds.

The follow-up phase is for those who have deemed the round satisfactory or wish to skip the evaluation phase. Second phase buyers will pay full price of $50 per round with a minimum order of 20,000 rounds.

WARNING: The XM1001-H can only be used in high velocity grenade launchers, such as grenade machine guns like the Mk 19. The XM1001-L can only be used with single-shot, magazine fed, or revolving cylinder type low velocity grenade launchers. Using a high velocity grenades in low velocity launchers or low velocity grenades in high velocity launchers will cause equipment damage or failure, and severe personnel injury or death.

Do you plan on making a 25mm or 20mm smart round version for those of us who use OICWs and OCSWs?
