Roach-Busters

Irondin Arctic, 7:53 A.M., Monday
As soon as the signal was given, the drill began to burrow through the thick sheets of ice, grinding away and spraying particles everywhere, until the signal was given to stop. The machine was shut down.
"I think we found something, Bob," said one of the men, shivering as the frigid wind immersed his skin in sheer, unrelenting coldness. His face was crimson. He practically had to shout the wind was blowing so loud. It was one hell of a blizzard. He could barely see his hand in front of his own face.
"Awright, Charlie," Bob said, walking over to the crevice they had drilled open. "Whaddaya got in here?"
"Diamonds," Charlie said. "Lots, and lots of diamonds. The Latishaw Corporation is gonna pay big dough for these!"
The two friends and the rest of the research team grabbed their tools and walked into the crevice.
They began cutting off chunks of diamonds and shoveling them into wheelburoughs (sp?) to be carried back to the ship.
However, a bit later, Charlie noticed that one of the men had not come back. It shouldn't have taken more than fifteen minutes. Curious, he began heading back toward the ship.
On the way there, he encountered something behind his wildest nightmare.
The missing man lay on the ground, disemboweled, with an ice blade in his abdomen. Intestines and blood spilled from his eviscerated stomach. The man's face was locked in an expression of frozen terror.
"My God," Charlie said. "What the hell c-"
He screeched as he felt a searing, excruciating pain ignite in his back, pain so explosive it nearly destroyed his sanity. He heard a trickling sound as drops of his blood dribbled to the ground. The cold blade plunged deeper into his back, cleaving right through his spine with a loud crrrrrunch, crushing his vertebrae. That was the last thing he ever felt.
Back in the cavern, the rest of the men kept mining as if nothing had happened.
All that changed abruptly.
Four shadowy figures entered the cave. Bob and his five partners could not make out any faces.
"Can I help you?" he asked, frowning.
"Bob, watch ou-"
Bob's head rolled across the ground like a bowling ball, as his severed neck sprayed a tremendous amount of blood all over the place.
The man who had attempted to warn him was fortunate enough not to feel any pain. The blade pierced through his chest and into his heart so swiftly that he was dead before he even knew what was happening.
Within minutes, everyone else met a similar fate...
