Earth II- Dancing Moose Soldiers Attacked by Congo Rebels (Earth II-Sign-Up RP)

Dancing Moose

The Mooscovites had settled deep into the jungles of the Congo under the protection of the Army and were planning further expeditions into the uncharted woods to gather information on the desolate, mysterious place they had been sent to colonize. Many of them had already been serving in overseas peacekeeping operations so they had assumed that the job would fit them fine. Unknown to them, secret, hidden, and highly mobile Congo rebels had been entrenched in the Congo jungle, known as the Sigma by colonists, for many years. They moved and communicated entirely by underground methods…. and had formed themselves for the precise intention of defending their home tribes, which had extended in heritage to ancient unknown religions. Far-venturing Egyptian nationalists hoping to seek answers to the hidden depths of the Sigma had unwillingly supplied them with arms in near-recent years. These rebels viewed the Dancing Moose settlement with extreme hatred and fear, as they had with any venturing militant force invading their loved homeland.

The rebels prepared as the Mooscovites as well as Layartebians extended their joint effort to further expand the range of their scouting parties.. parties that came ever so closer to the rebels home tribe land.

Deep in the Congo jungle, 1650 hours….

“Come on Johnny, don’t you think we have gone far enough….” Said corporal Mark Stevins.

Sergeant Johnny ‘The Trip’ Davis: “I swear I heard something, Mark, so just shut the hell up and follow… that’s an order.”

“Fine, but its probably just another damn snake…”

“Shhhh…” said Trip… “Can you not hear that?? What the hell is it?”

“It sounds like a bird, now can we just get out of here…”

Suddenly gunfire of tremendous amounts zipped through the forest as well as plant debris and human flesh.

“Everybody down!!” shrieked Trip as he lay on his back…he rolled over and started firing his AR-47 blindly into the woods as bullets continued to hiss by.

When the gunfire stopped, he yelled, “Is everyone alright??, Charlie, get on the horn for Delta camp.. we’ve just been ambushed relay coordinates, double time.”

“Roger that Sar’g, but I think Mark got hit….”

“Trip looked over at the motion-less mass which lay not 2 feet from him…”

“Oh my god, Mark!” He rolled him over and covered his mouth with his hand, sickened. Mark had been shot four times, and killed instantly.

“Sir, we have got to get the hell out of here, we are sittin ducks…”

“Cant you see I’m working on it, Charlie, wha….” Charlie interrupted him, “Sir, they are sending immediate retrieval and we are to E-VAC back to camp now….” As soon as he said that a pair of F-14’s flew by and dropped their napalm just north of the squads position.

“Alright, you heard him, on three we are gonna make back for base on foot….” The five other men in the squad looked at him with a frightened look, but nodded anyway.

“Three!” The men jumped up and sprinted down the path they had ventured on, obviously startling a few rebels who had come to check out their prey… as they fired there Uzi’s hopelessly at the fleeing soldiers.

When the soldiers returned to camp, gasping for breath, they had quite the story to tell… but it seemed the base commander looked more perplexed than surprised, for he had already been informed of the entire incident.

OOC: What is the name of your leader?

The Layartebian diplomat in the capital city of Dancing Moose heard of the attacks in the Congo settlement shortly after midnight. He immediately sent a dispatch to the main government in Layarteb City. No more than eighteen minutes later, he had a reply from the Emperor and it was short and simple. "Whatever the government of Dancing Moose needs, within reason, they can have it!" The diplomat nodded and immediately phoned his contact in the government, one of the higher ups in the aide staff of the leader. As per standard operating proceedures, he offered special forces assistant and the deployment of reconnaissance aircraft as well as supply aircraft to keep the settlement open and prevent it from being encircled, captured, and overrun. Now there awaited a decision from the leader of Dancing Moose.

But, the Layartebian government was not waiting for a response. Special Forces units from the 2nd and 3rd Units, the SEALs and Force Recon, were being readied. In addition, members of the 1st Black Operations Unit were already on their way. They maintained a sense of constant readiness and they could be on a plane or ship to anywhere in the world within sixty minutes, fully ready. Team 1, Team 2, and Team 3 were on the way, twenty-four men in all along with a small support staff for logistics, intelligence, and communications.

Since an increase in military forces in the Congo on behalf of the Dancing Moose government will take quite some time, the DM Special Forces already in the Congo are looking to Layarteb for assistance. In requirement will be reliable attack aircraft suitable for jungle fighting, and some highly trained veteran Special Forces divisions. Mission: To eliminate rebel threat to the Dancing Moose settlers.

OOC: Can you post some overall figures on the rebels (size, weaponry, base of operations, etc. Intelligence for my forces basically).

The Emperor was in his office when the generals walked in with the communique. "Sir, they are requesting suitable attack aircraft and some special forces, nothing out of the ordinary. We are unsure though if they have any sort of runway and what the protection levels are." The Admiral of the Navy said. "Which is why I move to send a carrier group."

"Isn't that a lot of firepower for some rebels Admiral?" The General of the Air Force said with contempt.

"You are talking to me about overkill. Need I remind you of the Cake Factory?"

The Emperor yelled, "Gentlemen will you please stop this for just one minute!"

"Sorry sir." They snapped to.

"Now I am agreeing with the Admiral here. This is no place for land-based aircraft. However, all reconnaissance flights and extra long range bombing, if it were needed, will be handled by the Air Force. Now let's sortie an Enterprise battle group. That'll consist of a single Enterprise carrier, four Ticonderogas, four AEGIS, four Perry, six Supply, ten support ships, a pair of Layartebs, a pair of Arsenal class, and their aircraft. In addition, I'd like to get a Vampire Class out there along with a Verrazano to test them in the action. In addition, we'll send a pair of Scythe class submarines and a pair of Seawolf class submarines. What kind of aircraft will that give us Admiral?"

"Well sir, on the Enterprise you'll get four C-2As, four E-2Cs, four EA-6Bs, four EA-18As, four ES-3As, twelve F-14Ds, eighteen F/A-18Cs, eighteen F/A-18Es, ten F-19Bs, ten F-22Ns, ten F-24Bs, sixteen F-26Bs, six Sea Hawks, and eight S-3Bs. In addition, on the Vampire you'll get eight AH-1Ws, twelve AV-8B pluses, two C-2As, six CH-53Es, two E-2s, sixteen F-26Bs, and eight Sea Hawks."

"Very well. Send them immediately and equip them with AGM-183 Zombies. I want to test them out."

"Yes sir."

"Now of the special forces. What is ready?"

"Five teams of six SEALs and six teams of eight for Recon Force. Seventy-eight total soldiers and necessary logistics and support staff. We're looking at around two hundred to two hundred and fifty."

"Very well. Is that going to be enough?"

"For now sir, I think so. Don't forget the other units you have sent."

"Ah yes, well they are autonomous so."

"Very well. We are done sir."

"Intel on the rebels?"

"We're awaiting that sir."

"Very well. Let Operation Jungle Expedition commence for us."

No clue what you are talking about. On the first page of Earth II it says Dancing Moose has the Congo and thats what I am going by.

Three miles outside of settlement, underground bunker ‘Delta’, 0300 hours

“Well sir, our best guesses as to the size of these rebel forces originates from information dating several decades back. Therefore it would be nearly impossible to accurately assume their size in terms of manpower. But we can assume the amount of military equipment they might have collected, or plundered if you will, over the last few years. Given the vast amount of small military escorts, especially by the Egyptians, we must be forced to believe that they are highly armed and jungle-adapted. In this statement I have enclosed a list of believed arms they may or may not have.”

(General Robert Harris nods as his chief advisor hands him the list…}

Rebel Forces ‘Sigma’
4,000 AK-47/74 assault rifles
About 3,000 various other small arms
1,000 RPG/ SA-16 anti tank/plane units
Various 120mm/100mm Artillery emplacements
600 81mm mortars
10 Mi-24 Hinds Helicopters
20 BMP-1 ATV’s
15 T-54’s
10 T-62’s
24 Towed D-30’s/D-20’s
Various un-armored trucks/ boats

“Damn they have a goddamned army out there. Rely this to the Layartebian command bunker, boy will they have a laugh.” Said Harris. “Yes sir, right away.”

Layarteb, I thought you recognized Menelmacar(the real owner of congo)?

OOC: Uhh.. this is Earth II, and I have claimed the land known as the Congo in it. Check the thread under my name please. And Layarteb my best guesses as to their forces are above.

IC (Below)

The Joint Chiefs and the Emperor were inside the main briefing area when the list came in. The battle group had a grand total of six thousand and eighty miles to travel and they were making twenty knots. That but them at a two week travel time. They were only seven days away. (Yes I know that it is uber-fast but hell, gimme a break)

The Emperor looked over his copy of the list. "Well gentlemen, they certainly have a sizeable force, for rebels that is. We must have air operations around the clock to find and destroy those Mi-24s and the tanks, they are the biggest threat to that settlement. It's jungle terrain so finding them is not going to be easy, especially if they are camoflauged. The rest is all light crap except for the BMPs and whatever trucks they possess. Gentlemen, what is the story on the SA-16s?"

"Well sir," the General of the Air Force jumped in, "they are decent MANPADs. Russian built." The Emperor interrupted.

"I know about them, how are we going to deal with them?"

"Well sir, stay above fifteen thousand feet."

"Very well. That sounds decent for me."

"In addition sir," the Admiral of the Navy smiled as the General of the Air Force kept quiet, "we're going to have to maximize the role of special forces on the ground to eliminate the surface-to-air threats as best as they can. There are a lot of magic BBs when it comes to those missiles."

"Indeed. Let this all be decided before the battle group gets there and send this communique to them immediately. We are done here for today."

"There is one more thing sir." The Admiral interjected.

"What is that?"

"Well, from the settlement to where our carriers will be is about five hundred miles."

"Quite far."

"Yes sir."

"Very well, perhaps we should move some of the AV-8Bs to the settlement, is it possible? Just heavily guard them."

"It is a possibility."

"Well then, think it over and get back to me by the morning."

"Yes sir." They all left the Emperor alone who, in the darkness of his office, bowed his head and nodded, One of these days this world is going to be rid of all these wackos!
*********************************************
Meanwhile, at a long stretch of dirt fashioned into a runway to ferry in supplies to the settlement, a pair of C-17A Globemaster III aircraft touched down, without warning. They notified the tower just minutes before they were on the ground and the tower had no choice but to grant them clearance. Out of the first climbed fifty-eight men. A site was to be procured immediately and two of the men left in a jeep to the main settlement compound to negotiate a place where they could stay. During the meantime, the remaining fifty-five people unloaded vast amounts of cargo from the other C-17 into a few awaiting trucks. It was pitch black and how the men saw in the night was beyond anyone in the tower or at the hangar area. They were still in shock. Two who tried to approach were waved off by a pair of men with guns, who were definitely bodyguards of some sort.

In the hour that it took to offload the supplies, the two men secured a top secret place and with it full privacy. The supplies were ferried off as the C-17s took off again, for their destination. Somewhere over the Atlantic they would refuel and then onto their bases in northeastern America, where Layarteb was.

The compound secured was an abandoned military bunker, used during the times when the settlement was barely new. It was spacious and well protected by certainly not well defended. A single JDAM would take out the bunker in a heartbeat. But, they weren't facing resistance that was armed with anything that sophisticated. They were lucky though as the bunker was equipped with a lift. A pair of tanks could be lowered on the lift down into the main garage for repairs and hiding. Luckily, the four trucks weren't nearly as heavy as a pair of tanks and they were loaded all in one shot, making unloading in the sixty-foot deep bunker a piece of cake.

Unbeknownst to the settlement and certainly to the rebels, this was Force Falcon and they would be beginning operations when the sun went down again. Things were about to get interesting!

Premier Németh's Office -- Earth II brief

"We have a situation developing in the Congo, Earth II sir, here is latest inteligence figures for a rebel group opposing Dancing Moose's rule there. Layarteb forces are currently assistancing in the fight against these rebels."

"Fine, prepare the war cabinet and leave me to contact Danscing Moose."
"Yes Sir."

We have noted your rebel factions fighting in the congo and wish to assist againstthem. Current forces in Earth II Canada can be deployed by Friday of next week inside the Congo if you wish. (OOC: Assuming this is Friday this week in NS)

We await your response
Premier Németh

War Cabinet

"General, is it possible"

"In theory yes, but jungle fighting is not the same as normal, we are gonig to need the SOD groups (Special Operations Divisions) from Celtayoshi, they are always at high alert."

"Fine then, you have my authorisation to fly 1st and 2nd to Toronto Imperial Air Force Base."

"Fine Mr Premier, as for the other groups, well, i would say 2 carrier base for laughing air operations, and we will need fleet replenishers for that, the army will need some form of transport, perhaps a landing strip in the Congo for the CY-T1 Transports to land, although the area will need to be secured. It all really depends on wether we can get are own base of operations on ground."

"We are working on that general. Dismissed." Replied the Premier.

***FLASH MESSAGE***

To: Commandant, Jax Marine Corps
From: HUMINT Director, African Region

Have just received report that Marine Corps advisors to Congo natives have come into contact with elements of Dancing Moose military forces. No reports of Jax casualities received. Unconfirmed report of at least one Mooscovite KIA. More details when available.

When he finished reading the message he had been handed, General Lee Christmas took a deep breath and gazed out into the Plaza d'Armas, still referred to as Jackson Square by those many opposed to the strong military presence now found in the city of New Orleans.

Christmas shifted his gaze from the window to the man seated in the hardback chair across from Christmas' desk. "Well, Guy we knew this day would come," Christmas said.

"Yes, General, I think it was inevitable," replied Lieutenant General Guy Molloy, the Marine Corps' chief of special operations. "Now, the question becomes what do we do."

"How many troops do we have in-country," Christmas asked.

"Not many. I pulled the last unit reports and it's only one platoon of Red Berets, with some operation support," Molloy answered, making reference to the elite troopers used as military advisors to leaders of the armed forces of friendly countries or elements of other troops the Jax government sought to befriend.

"Each of the platoons three squads are deployed in separate bases. Each squad has a radioman attached and the HQ is attached to one of the three," Molloy paused and looked up from the report he was reading. "I have someone putting together a map of each squads last known location and which troops are at each location. That should be on your computer soon."

"Well, Guy," Christmas said. "I don't know why we had men there, but we do. Put together a packet and I'll eyeball it before we send it up the chain to CIC, Maritime Operations and the Governor."

Molloy rose up. "Aye, aye, sir," he said before turning briskly to leave the room.

Christmas' gaze returned to the Plaza d'Armas, "It's been too quiet for too long," he said under his breath.

Everyone else's support is gladly accepted, as withheld reports number the rebels into the 5,000's.

We still need someone to RP the rebels and right now that is the number # priority, as the RP wont go far without them. And yes, Aust, portion me some of that land.. I see you have made claims in Earth II.))

The Emperor looked over the latest list of just who was involved now. He nodded, "It's getting busy over there." The Joint Chiefs agreed.

The General of the Special Forces was the first to speak. "Sir, about this. You know who we have over there."

"Yes I do."

"And you know how they are."

"Which is why I am going to specifically send a communique to all nations involved to please not interfere with operations being conducted by Layartebian forces."

"But sir." The General of the Air Force interjected. "You know how that is going to sound..."

"It sounds a lot better than a platoon of some other countries' soldiers being massacred by Layartebian 'unknown secret forces.' Doesn't it?"

"Yes sir."

The Admiral smirked again, the rivalry still going. "Sir, the battlegroup is a mere two days away."

"Very well. I am pleased you have made such good time there. Have you solved the range problem?"

"Yes sir. We're going to request to send six of the Harriers to the settlement with armament and fuel for immediate close air support. Well you are sir." The Emperor nodded with a smile. "In addition, we're going to use our Vikings as aerial tankers over the Congo for operations conducted at twenty-seven to thirty-two thousand feet, well out of the range of enemy missiles. And finally, I would like to see if we can get a pair of KC-130 Hercules tankers to the settlement for fueling operations as well. We're going to need a lot of fuel there to support this operation."

"Well, we have the stocks correct?"

"More than enough to fight this war and six others at the same time but I question the perimeter defenses at the settlement."

"Perhaps when all of the other countries arrive with forces then we shall see. Until then consider it a possibility but not a likely one. Is there anything else?"

"Yes sir." The Minister of Intelligence spoke up from his isolated corner at the table. "Estimated force size at five thousand rebels and growing sir. We don't know how much support they have from rural villages and such."

"Indeed. That is true. We must be wary of this. Anything else?"

"One more thing sir. Nikolaos The Great is sending in tanks. M1A2s to be exact."

"In the jungle?"

"Yes sir." The room burst into laughter.

"Does he know the terrain over there is about as suitable for an M1A2 as is using Eagles to patrol the mid-Atlantic. I hope he knows what he is doing. Once that rain comes and that ground gets muddy, those suckers are going to sink like rocks. And the hills and jungles. Be prepared for massive amounts of casualties from that nation! Deploy extra medical personnel to assist because they are going to need it. Tanks. M1s." The laughter continued as the meeting was adjorned.
***************************************************
Meanwhile, members of Force Falcon were on the prowl. Three of the four teams were deployed, teams one, two, and four. Team three remained at the base for defensive purposes. Team one had left just twenty-four hours after they arrive and the other two just six hours later. They were already meeting resistance with forces. Reports of two rebel patrols, each of six soldiers, were encountered and exterminated. Their recon operations had already outlined four possible attack routes to the settlement in a full-on assault and sixteen possible routes for supplies for the rebel forces. Currently, they were patroling a small river bank to the east of the settlement, approximately eighty kliks away. Reports of rebels using makeshift bridges were going to be addressed. Their orders were simple. Investigate and remain unknown. They were going to, however, place explosive charges on the bridge in case it needed to be blown at a later date.
***************************************************
On the deck of the ILN Enterprise, a helicopter had just landed, carrying the Recon Force and SEAL teams. They would recieve their briefing and fly into the site via COD. They were under orders and operated autonomously like Force Falcon but with restrictions, though not many.

To Dancing Moose: The Empire of Layarteb inquires as to the possibility of defended shelters at the dirt strip runway or any other large space for AV-8B Harriers to operate from should the base need immediate close air support.

To All Nations Helping in this Conflict: The Emperor of Layarteb appreciates all of your support and thanks you all greatly. We do request, however, that all forces not interfere with Layarteb units and operations as it could very well create a very big, very nasty, and very unwelcomed international problem, particularly if you were to come in contact with our special forces units without prior knowledge of your existance. They might percieve you to be the enemy and things could get very ugly on a political stage. Thank you.

"General, we just entered the north borders of Congo."

"Good. For now lets set up a temporary base and contact our allies."

"Yes sir."

"Oh and Captain put guards to guard the base. I went this place to be guarded 24/7. Because you never know when those damn rebels will attack you."

"Yes sir and it looks like its going to rain soon."

"Well you better get used to it because it always rains in Africa."

War Room

"General you may proceed with your operation brief." said Premier Németh

"Yes sir, well, we have the 24th Light Infantry and 29th Light Infantry Divisions waiting to go into the Jungle, there base of operations will be the airstrip, they depart in *he checks his watch* 2 hours, oncce there they set up the base of operations, along with help from 1st Imperial Engineers. There primary mission will be to secure the base until the Celtayoshi battle group arrives, when that happens the 59th Infantry will take up guard duty. We will use the 24th and 29th, along with SOD to hunt down the rebels. The carrier can be used to conduct air raids on camps, although I expect fast movement from the rebels."

"Very good General, now, Intelligence, what have you come up with?" Asked Premier Németh.

"Sir we estimate a rebel force of about 5000 fighting men, including RPG and anti air, now, these should not affect our aircraft too much, i believe they are few and far between with anti-air, although if the recieve outside aid then we may need a new strategy..." he looks over at the general, heads also turn

"Yes we are working on back up plans."

The minister of intelliegence continues "The rebel force wil use crude boobytraps, anything and everything they can, we are diverting satelites for recon but we will have to wait and see. Thats all for now.

Premier Németh asks for any last comments

"Just one more thing sir," replied the general, " Layarteb requests that we avoid his units, I can only assume he will be using special forces same as us, i suggest we do what he says."

"Fine, pass the word along general, we meet back here a day before the Celtayoshi gets into position."

The meeting breaks up

03-08-2004, 18:09
The battlegroup arrived in its position off the coast of the Congo to a dark sky that promised rain and lots of it. The battlegroup immediately launched a pair of F-14D Tomcats, necessary support aircraft, which were namely S-3B Vikings, and F/A-18C Hornets for recon of the jungle. F-14Ds were flying TARPS missions and F/A-18Cs were armed with AMRAAMs, Sidewinders, and Zombie missiles (two HE and two incendiary).
***************************************************
Inside the Emperor's office, the Joint Chiefs were back for another meeting. "Gentlemen, what have you for me today?"

"Well sir, the battlegroup has just arrived and we recieved a communique from Nikolaos The Great and Celtayoshi asking where our forces would be operating so as to avoid them." The Minister of Intelligence spoke first.

"Well send a reply to them that we cannot reveal the actual locations but they will be on reconnaissance missions and strike missions throughout the jungle. We will alert the special forces to your locations and ask that they use caution in all areas since there are friendly forces. We will also ask are there any identifiable signs that we could use to determine who they are if it were needed." The Emperor replied.

"Thank you sir. We'll send that immediately." The Minister of Intelligence finished writing.

"Sir we have Tomcats and Hornets over the jungle now conducting TARPS recon and armed recon missions to find enemy locations, particularly those Mi-24s. Weather is looking grim, rain as usual."

"Indeed it will be. Very well keep me posted."
***************************************************
The SEAL arrived first (out of the special forces). SEALs were air dropped into the jungle from a C-2 flying at low-altitude. They were to go on a seven-day LRRP to locate and destroy weapons caches in the jungle. They were followed by the Recon Force soldiers. They were dropped in by helicopter and had a very different mission. They were to find, locate, and destroy any rebel outposts throughout the jungle for the next seven days.

The seventy-eight soldiers, in total, operating in the jungle were operating, for the most part unrestricted but certainly not as free as Force Falcon operatives operated. They were armed with the usual assortment of rifles, M4s, MP-5s, M21s, M24s, M60s, M249s, M240s, C4, grenades, and LAWs.
***************************************************
However, now spread out to around one hundred and forty kliks from the settlement, the three teams were still conducting reconnaissance missions. They'd identified another dozen possible supply routes, destroyed a pair of makeshift bridges, and stumbled upon a rebel outpost. Team 1 was the finder of this outpost and they sat on a small hill, overlooking the tiny outpost from a distance of a half a klik. Initial counts put twenty rebels, two trucks, a weapons cache, an unknown building, and a communications area. The eight men were heavily armed still and they were going to descend upon this post and destroy it!

It was barely noon but the sky was gray with rain and lots of it. As they peered down onto the outpost and did the final tally's of what was down there, the rain began, in full force. They were crouched in a dense underbrush. As thunder and lighting began, the team descended the small slope towards the outpost, protected by barbed wire. The eight men crossed over the barbed wire fence and shouldered their weapons, still crouched low and walked into the outpost.

They swept through in two teams of three while two snipers remained high on the hill, one with an M24 and another with an M21. The six men inside the camp swept through in two teams, rifles high and suppressors on. One team went right to the communications post and the other team went to the weapons cache. On the way, they placed a pair of C4 charges on the two trucks. They had already, between the two teams, killed four rebel soldiers while the snipers shot another three.

The communications post was busy, rebel soldiers were sending and recieving transmissions about troop movements of their enemies, those helping out Dancing Moose. The second team immediately stormed the post with a flashbang. Thrown in the center of the room, it wasn't even heard as it flew in but three seconds later, the flash and the loud bang binded, deafened, and scared everyone in the room. The team jumped in immediately, firing into the heads of their incapacitated victims, two shots into each person. All six of them were vanquished before any of them realized what was going on. Now it was the job of that team to steal whatever viable information they needed. Small C4 charges would then be placed to ruin all of the equipment.

The other team hit the unknown building before the weapons cache. It was a barracks of some sort, with five enemy soldiers sitting around, two sleeping and the rest around a table with plenty of maps. The team rushed in immediately, firing and dropping every one of them before they needed to step further into the building. It was largely an empty room that was more like a backyard shed than anything else. In addition, there was a hatch on the ground, in the far corner. As they approached it, they realized it led to some underground room. The team dropped a flashbang into the hatch and then descended into the empty room, which was apparently a holding place for prisoners, though it was empty. Aside from that, there was nothing else down there. They climbed back to the room and exited the building to go to the weapons cache. Two soldiers stood guard outside the doors but were not a problem to the three men approaching undetected. They fired, dropped both soldiers, and entered. It was full of weapons but empty of people. They wouldn't need to use C4 to destroy the cache, they could simply do it with a hand-grenade but there was no telling how far away they would get before it exploded.

The other joined up at the weapons cache when everything of necessity was taken from the communications post and the barracks. Whatever they needed, they took from the weapons cache and placed a very small amount of C4 next to a crate of handgrenades. They left the outpost and returned to the hilltop their snipers were positioned, who had dropped another four rebels during the raid. Once upon the hill, they hit the detonation button and all of the charges exploded at the same time, obliterating the outpost. Their mission was a success and now they were going about their mission through the jungle.

A CY-X1--ICNV-Celtayoshi--0600hours

Flight Pilot Fred Wrench awaited the go from the flight deck, he was pissed, already 1 hour later due to a problem with the fuel he had had to sit and watch the light come up, light he thought, was his enemy. Aha, the flight deck gave him go, and he went, his target was an ammo dump roughly 290km inside the Congo, situated at the fool of a hill it would require him to fly low and very fast, before closing into range, where he was aquire target using the new laser designator being targeted by the SODs on the next hill. Apparantly SAM coverage of the area was limited, hmm, hadn't he heard that before.
According to his best estimate he should be within range in another 5 mins, good, he had noted the position of another camp 5 miles to his left, that wasn't supposed to be there but the bloody rebels change all places all the time. Beep. Laser Designator Located. About time he thought, a yes. He flicked the safety off and armed the air to ground missile, this one was a classified version of the AGM-130. Launch, the missile flew towards its target, touch luck suckers though Wrench, he pulled of a lazy turn to the right, trying to take him as far away fromt he base he had passed 10 mins back
Bling Bling Bling. What the hell, fuel alarm, but i have plenty of fuel, he checked the needle, only half empty, ages to go. Wrench looked out the left side, hmm, no leak there he though, what about right, as he looks right the fire alarm goes off. Shit he though and thumbed the fire control, looking round and killing the right side. Too late, the left side burnt its self out, he was now powerless to gain any thrust, he attempted to turn towards the now destroyed rebel base, wasn't it being watched by those SODs, he won't make it quite that far, the aircraft started losing bits of its rear, he ejected moments before it crashed into the ground.

Hill 107

"What the hell was that said the watch officer, our palne just crashed."

"Gimme that," screamed the squad comamnder, "damn, is that a parachute, the pilot got out."

"Are we going after him," asked a member?

"Of course, he helps us we help him." said the squad commander. "Everybody pack up, every buried, get some CS on that rubbish so no animals can dig it up for a while. Frew you are point, lead off, we will be just behind, stay silent."

Aboard the ILN Enterprise

The rear-admiral of the battlegroup looked spyingly at the screen. "What is it that you have for me men?" He spoke tiredly, just having been woken up.

"Well sir," the captain of the Enterprise began, "it seems that a Celtayoshi aircraft has been downed one hundred and eighty miles inside the Congo. A satellite caught the action in real-time. It looks as if a man-portable SAM hits the right engine of the aircraft. IR guided so the pilot never knew it."

"And what of the pilot?"

"Ejected. He currently has a team of soldiers coming to him. Their target was an ammo dump and the ground team was targeting the site, most likely for laser-guided bombs. They are moving towards him, an eight mile hike. But that isn't the bad news. A platoon of rebel forces are moving in on the pilot. They are a mere six miles away."

"What do we have in the air?"

"Currently a pair of F/A-18C Hornets with Zombie missiles, six F-14D Tomcats with air to air armament, four F/A-18E Super Hornets with bombs, and four F-26B Typhoons with a multi-role armament. The F/A-18Cs are the closest. If we divert them now they'll beat the rebel force there with a two mile buffer."

"Very well. Divert them immediately. I'll alert the Joint Chiefs and hopefully they can alert Celtayoshi to alert their...aw hell, they'll find out there are too damn many lines. Find a damn channel to them!"

The captain nodded and saluted as the rear-admiral left. He looked over to the radiomen, "Find a channel." He immediately left and made a bee-line for the tower, walking as fast as he could, running actually. Once he got to the tower he gave the order to alert the F/A-18Cs to change course."
*****************************************************
Panther 502 and 503 were at twenty-two thousand feet, flying south, south-east over the Congo. The sun had just come up less than an hour ago and their armament glistened in it. Their wingtip Sidewinders and wing-hung Zombie missiles made them look like a hunter-killer fighter rather than a close air support fighter. Zombie missiles were modified AGM-45 Shrikes, once used to attack enemy radars. Now they were unguided and meant to attack masses of troops, enemy troops.

Their radios were going left and right with the chatter of ground forces and air forces all mixed. The pilots were listening but not. Then came, "Panther lead this is Charlie base come in over."

"Panther lead authorized. Over."

"Delta, echo, foxtrot, echo, lima, november, mike. Over."

"Authorized. Gamma, alpha, bravo, echo, november, october, october, bravo. Over."

"Authorized. New target. Proceed due west eighty-six miles to grid square C5, mini-square A1. Celtayoshi aircraft down, pilot ejected. Rebel force closing from the north, approximate distance five and a half miles and they are running. Over."

"Roger that. Over and out." The pilot immediately turned course. "Wing 1, close it up, let's go to five hundred miles per hour."

"Roger that sir." The F/A-18Cs had already dropped their external tanks and so they banked hard left, coming to a course of 289. They accelerated to a speed of five hundred and fifty miles per hour, approximately ten minutes to the target.

The short flight dropped them down to sixteen thousand feet. It was at this time that the carrier finally got a frequency to the Celtayoshi ground team. The carrier immediate sent a message of the information they knew and of the F/A-18C flight.

The two pilots made contact with the rebels at the precise location the carrier announced to them. Immediately, the rebels began firing small arms at them but they were hitting nothing. A few shoulder launched missiles were fired but due to the F/A-18Cs flares, they were missing left and right, especially due to their altitude. They made a pass and as they came back they were at twenty thousand feet but descending on the force. Both aircraft pickled their missiles and each fired a pair of their Zombie missiles. They pulled up around sixteen thousand feet and returned back to twenty.

The four rockets left the rails at Mach 2. They had a maximum range of ten miles but they were being fired from around five, including altitude. The rockets smashed into the ground and the thermite plasma warheads exploded, sending a massive fireball across the small area that the rebels were traveling through.

The fighters returned for another pass, there were soldiers still alive but they were scattered now and not many of them. The two F/A-18Cs engaged again but with their cannons this time, making three gun passes in total. At that point, it seemed no one was alive anymore. They notified the carrier, which notified the Celtayoshi ground team but emphasized that there may still be alive rebels down there. The F/A-18Cs made a flight line towards the carrier, meeting up with an S-3B along the way to refuel.

"Bingo, we have hit sire, Layarteb reports aircraft engaged and probably destroyed several enemy units."

"But not all."

"They did their best, we can only hope the rebels are dead, if not maybe this will delay them."

"Any nearby air assets?"

"SOD extraction chopper coming in from here," pointing on the maps. "That should reach the area in another 30mins."

"Blast, we need to verify rebel condition!"

The Congo

The SOD team was limited only by its heavy packs, which were carrying the laser designater. Noise be damned they thought, intelligence said no rebels nearby and this time they would have to trust that. they had started out two miles behind the rebels, but these were amongst the elite of Celtayoshi forces, they did 5mile runs with full kits for a morning warm up. Even if any rebels did get to the pilot before they did the SODs should catch up...if the pilot wasn't dead by the time they got there.

"Approaching the area sir, we have bits of the plane here, wait, I can see it dead ahead."

"Stop, all troops catch up, we will circle the plane wreckage and see whats happening."

"All down, man 3 o'clock." The man happened to be the lone surviour of the air raid by Layarteb.

"Sir if we are careful we can take this one alive."

"Rodger that, Clements, you and Frew circle round behind, creep up and grab him. One click on radio if you can take, two if you can't, don't risk getting yourself hurt."

The two men circled round using the terrain for cover, one behind the looked at each other, yes, they could do this. They silently creep up behind the rebel and grabed him. One good hit to the neck knocked him out for a few hours.

"Sir we have target alive, but, where is the pilot?"

"Hes in the bushes over here, we are gonna need to get some medical treatment on his leg, damaged it pretty badly. The ejector worked properly, but who wants to paradrop into jungle, apparnatly the parachute got caught several times coming through the trees, he had to cut himself out, and he feel tot he ground. Reporting to base now."
"Base this is SOD 1 yankee charlie bravo zulu over."

"SOD 1 go ahead alpha foxtrot lima bravo"

"We have pilot alive, proceeding to extraction point Britannic. Note pilot damage to right leg, possible broken. We have one rebel alive, area clear."

"Rodger, revive aircraft intel if available, destory aircraft and move to extraction point Britannic out."

The nightly meeting in the Emperor's office was going as usual. They had a lot to go over. "Sir," the Minister of Intelligence spoke, "we have some information on Celtayoshi. They have thanked us for the air support in the rescue of their pilot and offered their support."

"Very well. Reply back that alliances are alliances and we shall always be able to protect them. As for help, any intelligence they have on rebel movements, outposts, camps, and so on and so fourth would be helpful."

"We also have a good deal of information on the tanks from Nikolaos The Great. They are sinking in the mud, utterly useless."

"Yes, certainly with the rains. If they need to evac them from the AO we will be of assistance. Other than that I can think of nothing that would help them out. Do any of you have any ideas?" Nobody spoke up. "Very well. What else have you got?"

"Captured documents from that outpost that FFT1 raided reveal two more outposts and two more supply routes, two more heavily used supply routes sir."

"Recommended course of action?"

"Carpet bomb them sir." The General of the Air Force seized this opportunity. "We can put some B-52s over the two routes and bomb them into oblivion."

"And repeat the failures of Vietnam with the bombings of the Ho Chi Minh Trail." The Admiral of the Navy interjected.

"Technology is more advanced now. We can put all fifty-one of those B-52s' bombs onto the target. Or perhaps use B-1Bs as well."

"The General has a point. Very well that shall be our course of action."
********************************************************
Airbase #445 was busy only a mere hour after the meeting adjorned. Four B-1Bs and four B-52Hs were being loaded and fueled. Each B-1B was being loaded with eighty-four MK-82s and the B-52Hs were being loaded with fifty-one MK-82s. The eight aircraft would pummel the two routes.
********************************************************
Aboard the Enterprise, six F-26B Typhoons were sitting ready. Their targets were the two outposts. Armed with Zombie rockets, Brimstone missiles, laser-guided bombs, and air to air weaponry, the six fighters took off just after 0000. They would be over the target in roughly an hour. Three for each target, the Typhoons were loaded heavy. Each aircraft in the set of three had different loadouts for different purposes. One would take out air defenses and armor, another would take out structures, and another would be loaded with anti-personnel munitions of rockets, Zombie rockets, and cluster bombs.

Special Forces were operating well and efficiently. The SEAL and Recon teams were already on their fourth and fifth objectives, having taken out numerous targets and provided a plethora of intelligence on supply routes, patrols, and targets.
*******************************************************
The real action was being encountered by Force Falcon Team 1. They were in a heavy firefight with rebels, being fired at from a pair of concealed locations. Still good on the ammunition situation, they were taking heavy fire from two spots in the jungle brush and it was difficult to make out any people as they were camoflauged well.

The team returned fire immediately after taking cover and used grenades as well. From the sound of gunfire, they estimated they were being fired upon by about two dozen rebel soldiers, most likely trying to set up an ambush for other forces operating in the area.

Expanded Congo Map (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/africa/congo_rel90.jpg)

The team was just west of Ewo, approximately two kliks. AV-8Bs operating from the main settlement were on routine patrol and called into action. Their eight pylons per plane held a pair of AIM-9 Sidewinders for air to air action, a pair of AGM-65E Maverick missiles for heavy strike, and four CRV7 rocket pods for close air support. Additionally, they carried a 25MM cannon with three hundred rounds and enough flares and chaff to dispel any enemy missiles. They came in low, at eight thousand feet, flares dropping to avoid missile fire.

From the air they could make nothing out and would have to rely on targetting directions from the team. It was night and they carried reflector panels, two of which were placed on the ground in a clearing to show where they were. The enemy was anything else around, four possible locations of gunfire. Nightvision allowed the pilots to see where the shots were coming from easier than it was for the team on the ground as it was easier to spot the muzzle flashs from the sky. Both Harriers screamed in, dropping more flares. They unloaded a salvo of sixteen rockets each, out of seventy-six, on two positions of muzzle flashes. Explosions and the sound of screams from the ground told Team 1 that the strike was a hit. Still, there was gunfire.

The Harriers screamed in again, more flares dropping, and fired again, sixteen more rockets a plane, at another pair of positions, wipping them out instantly. As they came off target again, a MANPAD streaked upward and ignored the flares. Though it did not hit directly, the surreal explosion did damage the engine vector of the Harrier, this one would have to land conventionally.

A third pass over the target obliterated the last position with rockets. The aircraft turned for home immediately after recieving confirmation of their success. But all was not over. As the two Harriers flew onward with their APG-65 radars in standby mode, they were contact by a Navy E-2C Hawkeye. Two radar contacts were being identified flying south to the settlement from the north, approximately eighteen miles away from the Harriers. They were slow, low-flying contacts which could mean only one thing, helicopters!

The Harriers, at an altitude of 12,000 AGL, turned headings and flew towards the targets. They turned on their radars after what they figured would give then ten miles to the targets and there they were, a pair of contacts eight miles away, flying at one hundred miles per hour and at low-level. The Harriers approached the contacts, their Sidewinders armed. They were a good ten thousand feet over the contacts when they passed, barely even being noticed but through their NVGs they could see them on the deck, two Mi-24 Hinds.

As the AV-8Bs slowed down and approached the Hinds from the rear and at an altitude of 5,000 feet, they each locked up a helicopter and fired off a Sidewinder. Immediately, inside the Hinds, warning sirens erupted as the Sidewinders barrelled inbound at Mach 2.5. The AIM-9M-9 Sidewinders were resilient to ECCM and flares, now being launched by the two Hinds. But, they weren't lucky enough to avoid the two Sidewinders, reducing them to smoldering wrecks on the jungle floor just four miles from the settlement.

As the Harriers transmitted their success over the air, one of the SEAL teams immediately dispatched, their goal to get to the helicopters ASAP and search the wreckage for anything useful. Unfortunately, there was nothing to find except for two badly wounded pilots and a pair of crew chiefs who were unconscious. All four were taken prisoner and thus ended the night.

The Congo

"Walk in the park base."

"Don't get two dirty, mission parimiters take down that outpost, use all necessary force, but try not to alert any other bad guys."

laughing"We will."

The SOD team was currently approaching a medium lookout post from the rear, this one overlooked a vital bridge, one of the few left in the Congo. The SODs were split into 2 teams. One would sustain heavy fire on the base from the left, whilst the other would circle and await the oppertune moment to creep through the fence and into the base, removing anyone they saw. It was risky, but if done quickly no harm should come.

The first team reached its position, and the second creep round, barely making a sound, they had chosen night for this for this, the better to hide from the enemy. The rebels had lit a fire, good they thought, it should make spotting us harder. As the second team cut the creep up the chainlink fenceteam 1 opened fire, generally SODs would use silenced weapons, but for thisa the silencers were removed. The sound of gunfire ripped through the left of the camp. Team 2 jumped over the fence, bewfore moving to shelter behind a building. They chucked 4 flashbangs, one into building beside, and 3 around the camp. The noise was worse than anything. Rapidly the SOds proceeded into the building, where two men were found stunned by the noise, they were overpowered quickly, two alive at least.

By this stage team one had stopped fire and shifted, splitting again, one team moving the the right, one to the left of the original position, now they were firing at targets, with the aim to hit them. Team 2 moved out of its building and circled round the back to get a better shot at some rebels in a tower. Next came some explosives for the fuel dumps. While team 1 regrouped and checked the remaining areas of the camp. There was none, the prisoners were tied up and told what woudl happen if they tried to run. Then the SODs got out of there. A job well done they thought.

The Village, 2200 hours…

Johnny Davis shook the hand of the villager he was staying with and began his walk to the command post he was stationed at. It had been many weeks since his best friend Mark had been killed, but in light of the events occurring recently he had forgotten. Many special forces divisions from different nations had been through the village, on their way to the action, which had been going on up north. The village had been secured some time back, and most of the people were sad for it… as they liked the company of the soldiers. Johnny thought to himself, “… all of these people mixing together is gonna make for a real interesting outcome of this village or, community, as everybody now calls it”. He thought about his brother, Tom ‘Ringo’ Davis, (the brothers each had received a separate nickname in their divisions, both originating from odd events) who was stationed somewhere along the Owando River with a mixed Layertebian unit. He missed him.

As soon as Johnny reached the post he through his gun down and jumped onto a hammock which was stretched out, catapulting one of the new corporals his stick had collected, to the floor…

(Corporal Tyler): What the fuck Davis?

(Davis): I’m just messin with ya man, you take things so seriously

(Tyler): Naw man you just scared the shit outta me

(Davis): Oh, well, in that case.. sorry..

(Tyler): Wow you’ve never told me that before… is something wrong?

(Davis): No man its just that tomorrow we’re getting shipped out to go hike some long-ass recon trail, going 30 kliks up the river to intercept some Layerteb unit.

(Tyler): Uhh… ok… only I’d believe you if the base commander had have told me this morning…

(Davis): Ha… im dead serious man I just heard it from JOC.

(Tyler): Oh shit man im actually getting out into the brush… oh can I go tell the guys???

(Davis): Yeah sure man but just make sure they have themselves some rest tonight, I want them 100 percent when they commander sees us off tomorrow.

(Tyler): Yeah sure man no prob… Ill see ya tonight

(Davis): Yeah later.

Only Johnny didn’t tell him what was worrying him the most… once the team met up with the Layertebian force they were to hit a major hardened rebel outpost which had been the major concern of the field general for over a month. Fighter assistance was to be provided, but as Davis was briefed, hard close quarters’ fighting was to be expected.

OOC: More later.

The Recon Force Marines were to meet up with a Dancing Moose unit for a combined forces attack against a fortified rebel stronghold. They were not very keen on having outside forces so close to them but they were going to deal with it for the mission, it called for it and that was their job. Force Falcon was making their way north as well, to raid the outpost prior to the strike. Naval fighters and fighter-bombers were going to provide assistance and pre-strike sorties would call for laser-guided strikes against several targets. The strikes would come from high altitude with Force Falcon lasing the targets.
