Terrorist Nuclear Bomb Attack in Kanabia! (open RP)

OOC: This is an open RP continuation of this thread: http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=343874

Several passengers were climbing aboard a BAE Jetstream aircraft at the regional airport in the tiny desert town of Pezziano, 100 kilometers from the city of Kanazawa. Last in the line-up were three large and youthful men with military haircuts.

"Any hand luggage gentlemen?"
"Just this." *First man hoists up briefcase*
"I'm sorry comrade, that looks far too heavy..."
*Man pulls out gun* "Get out of my fucking way and don't make a noise, or you die, bitch."

The wide-eyed and shocked attendant moved away and let the men step on the aircraft, not knowing what else to do. She then sprinted off to alert the control tower and along the way, witnessed blood splatter all over the inside of the cockpit window.

The engines on the aircraft started up and the plane began taxiing toward the runway. The attendant had not reached the tower yet.
"KAA 1071, you do not have permission to taxi."
"Tower, fuck off."
The two men in the cockpit laughed. "I've always wanted to do that" said the man in the pilots seat. The third man was in the rear of the aircraft, reassuring the remaining passengers that no harm would come to anyone else, and that they would be landing and surrendering in Kanazawa after they got some government attention. The passengers began to calm down.
The plane lifted off the runway and began flying towards Kanazawa.

-------------------------------------

"Redguard Two-Three and Redguard Two-Four, intercept and escort BAE Jetstream aircraft designation KAA 1071, heading zero-one-four, 70 kilometres."
"Control, Redguard Two-Three. A medical emergency?"
"Negative, apparent terrorist situation."
"Roger, Wilco."

The two MiG-29 Aircraft engaged their afterburners and sped off towards the target. They reached it in no time and flanked it.

----------------------------------------
Negotiations with the terrorists had begun.
"May we speak to one of the passengers to verify your claims that they are not harmed?"
"Yes."
An attractive brunette woman who looked barely out of her teens was escorted into the cockpit.
"Hello?" She said into the handheld radio.
"This is Alman Signatius, I am with the Intelligence Service, what is your name?"
"My name is Charlotte Harrup."
"Charlotte, Is anyone else besides the Pilot and Copilot hurt?"
"No, We are all okay."
"Thankyou, Charlotte."

The terrorist co-pilot looked nervously out the window at one the MiG-29's and recognised it was from his former squadron, and he knew the pilot by the aircrafts designation number.
"Hey, Allan- We know that dipshit. They're from our old squadron."
"Haha.." Knowing that the flanking MiGs couldn't possibly see them clearly enough to tell who they were, the pilot nevertheless gave the MiG pilot the universal bird symbol. The fighter pilot ignored him.
"We'll be there in 10 minutes. Should set the bomb now"
"Leon, look out the window!" The copilot called out.
"Leon" recognised the signal and responded, "Yeah, a pretty MiG. Have to take a piss, cover me..."
The man named "Leon" took the briefcase into the toilet with him, and one of the six passengers onboard panicked, realising it was a bomb. In quick succession, the co-pilot eliminated them all with his pistol.
---------------------------------------

9 Minutes later...

"OK, We're over the city center. Get ready."
"God Bless Kanabia and forgive us for what we must do..."
"Amen, 'comrade'."
The men laughed nervously at this oxymoron.
"20 seconds...Open the door..."
The door opened and wind filled the aircraft.
"10 seconds....drop the fucking thing!!"
The suitcase fell out of the aircraft.

(They had been told to drop the package, as the aircraft itself, having an aluminium frame, could affect the bomb's power. No-one knew for certain...the people who planned this attack weren't scientists)

--------------------------------
"Control, Redguard Two-Four, I saw a package fall from..."
The pilot was cut off as a flash seared his eyes, then nothing, as his body suffered complete molecular death and his aircraft was disintegrated into dust.

----------------------------------

The city center of Kanazawa was flattened by the device, which had a yield of slightly over 40KT (around twice the power of the Hiroshima bomb). There was more structural damage than usual, as the bomb was an airburst explosion...For a circular distance of about 12 kilometers, nearly all buildings were damaged beyond repair, and many skyscrapers had collapsed into the ground...thousands upon thousands would likely be dead. Up until 22km, windows were shattered and in some cases, walls collapsed. The rubble burned fiercely...

-----------------------------------

Bill Quinn had done his job too. For months he laboured for what he felt was the good of Kanabia...and he had finished his work. He was the secondary technician at the main internet server that covered all of Kanabia, and the virus he had just uploaded would cause absolute chaos. The other technicians were all dead, he saw to that. And he was the only one who would be able to tell the world what was going on and fix it. He wasn't about to. He put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

The world wouldn't know quite what was going on...

(OOC: The picture is of the aircraft hijacked. Please RP according to the time frame, IE, don't pledge aid yet because your nation doesn't know exactly what is happening, apart from perhaps seeing a nuclear blast on satellite. This confusion is added to, as all of a sudden Kanabia is no longer on the internet.)

Occ- A suitcase nuclear device usually weighs about what 175 lbs. Unless you take out all the lead shielding.

But since they didn't care about dying, it seems reasonable to believe they'd take out the shielding.

Tell Belem then. It weighed 60-120 pounds (I'd heard that they could be 200KG, but I wasn't sure, all I knew is that it would need 10kg of fissile material at least. Plus, Plutonium 239 (Assuming that was the material) emits only alpha particles, from what I understand. What is the lead shielding for?

The lead shielding is so you don't die from the radiation.

Being that close to such a level of radiation will kill you within an hour probably.

I remember they found an old Soviet era Strontium reactor in the forest of a former USSR state one day. Well two men found it, it was cold, they saw the snow around it had melted, they didn't know what it was so they laid next to it. The next day they struggled into a nearby town, all their hair had fallen out, they died a few hours later.

A crew was sent to move the reactor into a lead shield. They went on 10 second shifts, they'd have about 20-30 people each push it for 10 seconds.

When the USSR collapsed, about 3,000 miniature strontium reactors were just tossed in the woods and such. Note that each one provides plenty of necessary material for a dirty bomb. But it doesn't matter, Al-qaeda has about 20-30 suitcase nuclear devices.

Hattian Nuclear Command: Classified Location

Screens lined the walls of the central room, deep underground in the central nexus of Hattia's large nuclear arsenal. Most of the screens were currently focused on Hallad and Grunge France, ready to respond within seconds if the situation called for it. At once, over the speakers came a voice. "Nuclear launch detected: Location, Kanabia..."

Executive Building: Haton, 1 minute later

"Alexei, we've gotten word from Nuclear Command that a nuclear detonation has occured in Kanabia. We've attempted to contact them, but no one can get through." The PM slammed his fist down on his desk, he had been having a bad day, and this made it all the worse. "Well, does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on?" The man shook his head. "Well, follow standard procedure and keep trying to contact them."

Throughout the nation, people headed towards communal bomb shelters, while military personnel marshalled on their bases, as was standard procedure when a nuclear blast was detected in an allied nation.

However, alpha particles which Plutonium emits wont penetrate a sheet of paper. The radiation is harmless as long as you don't ingest it through dust or god forbid, eating a lump.

In the industrial hell that is The Evil Empire of Akaton, Lord Draconis sat brooding in his office. Half an hour earlier, he had been staring out the balcony of his palace, planning a new way to enslave his people, when there was a flash just over the horizon. Thirty seconds later, alarms went off as the blast wave was picked up by observation posts arcross his nation. Nuclear war? No, he thought to himself, there were no nearby nations involoved in a nuclear war. Turning to his wall of world monitering screens, he noticed something out of place, the once beatiful Kanazawa was in ruins.

At once it dawned upon him. Terrorism. Even he, the evil Lord Draconis, thought this to be an outrage. He vowed revenge against the terrorists responsible, but realised that they all died in the blast. Not knowing where to strike, he sat waiting answers. The answers would come, one way or the other, then those responsible would pay dearly for this attack on a peaceful antion.

OOC: 80 pounds is the minimuim technically for a very low grade pure fission reaction. Mine is a fusion enchanced reaction so I can get explosions into the Kiloton range.

President George Buchanan's face paled, then reddened as he listened to General Briggs at AADC [Ascendotuum Air Defense Command] on the red phone.

"Our surveillance has confirmed the detonation of a nuclear device over Kanabia, sir" stated Briggs "All attempts to contact the Kanabian government have been unsuccessful"

"Have you been able to determine if the detonation was intentional or accidental?" asked President Buchanan.

"No sir" replied the General "We're using every resource at our disposal make that determination and will advise you of any new information the moment we get it."

"Thank you General, keep me posted." The President hung up the red phone and bellowed for his aid. "WILLY!!"

Willy entered the office trying to hide his nervousness. What had he done to piss the Boss off this time? "Yes sir?" stammered Willy.

"I need you to contact General Washington..." started the President in a more calm voice "...and have him come to my office ASAP, I don't care where he is or what he's doing, have him drop it and get himself here.

"Right away Mr. President" Willy was relieved, if the Boss wanted the Joint Chief, the problem was way bigger than he could have caused. Willy left the room to do his masters bidding...

Two hours later, Gen. Isaac T. Washington, Joint Chief of the ADF [Ascendotuum Defense Forces], sat and listened as the President relayed to him the information he received from the AADC.

"Will we be deploying any military units to the area Sir?" asked Washington.

"Not yet. We don't know the reason for this disaster and have no grounds to launch a military operation, however we will send humanitarian aid by means of military transport. You can take an appropriate amount of security troops armed with non lethal weapons to make sure the supplies get to where they need to be." sighed the president.

The thought of what any survivors of this holocaust were going through was chilling. This was a peaceful nation according to all intelligence reports. Why would anyone launch a nuclear strike on them? Surely this had to be accidental, perhaps testing gone very wrong. He could only speculate for now

"... We'll begin by dispatching HU-25's to recon the region for suitable landing sites. We can use the Galaxys and Starlifters to transport the supplies." the Generals voice drifted into President Buchanans thoughts.

"Very good General, let's make it happen" stated Buchanan in approval.
" And inform me immediatley when you have an assessment of the situation."

"Yes Mr. President" General Washington turned and walked smartly from the Presidents office. He had a lot of work to do......

Nine hours later, 38 C-5 Galaxy and 16 C-141B Starlifter transport planes loaded with food, water, blankets, tents, medical supplies and medical teams, transport vehicles and security forces
were lined up on the runways awaiting orders to depart. Planes were leaving in flights of 6 as the HU-25's reported only a few suitable landing strips that weren't damaged in the blast. The first flight received orders to go and proceeded, flying into the unkown....

OOC: So it was a H-Bomb?!? I assumed it was just a small fission device...Well, they have another one, so that can be the special package :)

Also, to any participating nations, Kanabia does not have any nuclear weapons, so the detonation would appear very suspicious.

Thanks for the help Ascendotuum, but IC'ly those transports will arrive in several hours yet. I'm doing this a few hours at a time :)

An hour after blast, 5PM Kanabian Standard Time

Rumours began to spring up amongst the population almost immediately. The internet down, and no phone contact to Kanazawa....what was going on?

Then, all of a sudden, the phones in the capital of Roquefort all went eerily silent.

Primary Telephone Exchange, Roquefort.

The building blazed. Not 2 minutes beforehand had a van drove straight past the security post, into the middle of the complex, and detonated in a spectacular fireball as the many pounds of plastic explosive inside the van combusted, the main mobile phone tower crashing over onto the street, crushing several vehicles.

Roquefort North AFB
Air General Xeng threw the phone across the room in frustration and strode down to the HARSRS (High Altitude Radio Relay/Satellite Station) transmission station, took the headset off the worried looking Lieutenant in charge and said into the speaker- "This is Air General Xeng, Roquefort North Air Force Base- I don't know what the hell is going on, but we just lost telephone coverage, internet, and Marx knows what else. I want to know the situation, now." A response came through quickly. "Air Ge---ral, Yo-- Sig-----eak. Please sa----- gain." A strange high pitched interference came through on the radio. Someone was jamming the Satellite transmissions somehow. "WHAT. IS. GOING. ON." "Nuclear atta-----nazawa city. Rep-----------" The signal faded into a high pitched screech. The General twisted the radio dial, to no avail. "Lieutenant, can we transmit FM signals over this?" "Of course, sir." The lieutenant entered something into the computer and rock music from a popular station played over the speakers. The General spoke into it- "Citzens of Kanabia, this is Air General Xeng at Roquefort North Air Force Base- There is a critical security situation underway. I cannot elaborate, because quite frankly, I myself do not know what is going on. I will say this- Stay where you are. Do not go on the streets. I repeat, stay where you are until we know the situation at hand. If you see people on the streets, bring them inside. Available Army units, deploy and protect critical infrastructure sites." He then repeated this message on as many available FM stations as he could, but because of the screwy satellite signal, Only relatively nearby cities besides Roquefort would get the message. If the nation was lucky, someone would have the initiative to relay the message to other cities.

A Bunker in Roquefort

Anatoly Korenchkin was as surprised as Xeng that the satellite signals weren't working. He and his men had no idea how to jam the system. Perhaps there was another group working to jam the signal...the Government? Maybe they wanted to keep the news quiet...but then, it wouldn't last long, even with the damage his men had inflicted to the communications systems...no, that wouldn't really make much sense. A foreign power looking to to foster chaos? Perhaps...He was as befuddled as anyone else. TV was still working, at least. His plan could go ahead.

Michaels Secretary looked at him sternly. "Are you sick?" She asked, furrowing her brow. "I tell you there's been a nuclear blast and all you do is smile?" Michael looked at her. "Oh... Sorry, I was zoned out." She shook her head an stormed out. Sitting back in his chair, he lit a cigar and pulled a long drag on it. "Ah.. All is going as planned..."

Chancellor Alejandro de la Casa Negra was on a podium speaking to a group of civil-rights activists when his counsellor came to him. "Sire, an bomb was blown up in Kanabia. Possibly Terrorism?" The Chancellor nodded, and finished his speech, then ran off to go into his limousine. "Damn..." He muttered. The limousine drove off, and rain began to pour. The begining of many "dark" days for Lethislavania.

OOC: its mixed fission fussion(not sure if this is considered A or H) heres an exact example of basically the general design of the bomb. Its designed for maximun destruction with the smallest amount of explosives.

1.5.1 Boosted Fission Weapons

The earliest application of fusion to useful weapons was the development of boosted fission weapons. In these weapons a few grams of a deuterium/tritium gas mixture are included in the center of the fissile core. When the bomb core undergoes enough fission, it becomes hot enough to ignite the D-T fusion reaction which proceeds swiftly. This reaction produces an intense burst of high-energy neutrons that causes a correspondingly intense burst of fissions in the core. This greatly accelerates the fission rate in the core, thus allowing a much higher percentage of the material in the core to fission before it blows apart. Typically no more than about 20% of the material in an average size pure fission bomb will split before the reaction ends (it can be much lower, the Hiroshima bomb was 1.4% efficient). By accelerating the fission process a boosted fission bomb increase the yield 100% (an unboosted 20 kt bomb can thus become a 40 kt bomb). The actual amount of energy released by the fusion reaction is negligible, about 1% of the bomb's yield, making boosted bomb tests difficult to distinguish from pure fission tests (detecting traces of tritium is about the only way).

The first boosted weapon test was Greenhouse Item (45.5 kt, 24 May 1951), an oralloy design exploded on island Janet at Enewetak. This experimental device used cryogenic liquid deuterium-tritium instead of gas. The boosting approximately doubled the yield over the expected unboosted value. Variants on the basic boosting approach that have been tested including the use of deuterium gas only, and the use of lithium deuteride/tritide, but it isn't known whether any of these approaches have been used in operational weapons.

Due to the marked increase in yield (as well as other reasons - such as reducing the weight of the fission system, and eliminating the risk of predetonation) today most fission bombs are boosted, including those used as primaries in true fission-fusion weapons. Although boosting can multiply the yield of fission bombs, it still has the same fundamental fission bomb design problems for high yield designs. The boosting technique is most valuable in small light-weight bombs that would otherwise have low efficiency. Tritium is a very expensive material to make, and it decays at a rate of 5.5% per year, but the small amounts required for boosting (a few grams) make its use economical.

The Premier Quetzalcoatl was standing before the Soviet Congress, promoting a new bill:

"...this bill will be a crutical step for our Union. It gives us us a cutting edge to fight terrorism without having to infringe upon our civil rights. It is imperative..."

Vice Premier Coyotepec stepped up to the Premier and said to the Congress "The Premier must depart now, there is an extreme emergency situation developing in one of our ally's borders."

As the Soviet Congress began to discuss among themselves what could possibly be the problem, the Premier and Vice Premier steped into a secret concrete passage underneath the Grand Union Chambers.

The Premier stopped and said "Alright, what the hell is going on?"
Coyotepec turned around and said "Sir, it's our comrade in the International, Kanabia, they suffered a nuclear attack. From the sounds of it, the attack seems like terrorism."

The Premier's jaw dropped. "My dear God, what have the spysats detected?"

"Terrible. Everything in a 12 KM circle has been vaporized. A 22 km circle has sustained heavy damage. Radiation reports are impossible at this time."

"I must alert the Soviet Congress and our people. Have our media gather in the Great Union Chambers now!" Ordered Quetzalcoatl.

--15 Minutes later--
~~BREAKING NEWS~~
"I have just been informed by Vice Premier Coyotepec that our comrades in Kanabia have suffered one of the worst and cowardly disasters possible-nuclear strike. We speculate it was a terrorist operation, but that does not matter at this second. This moment in time will forever be a bitter and tragic moment for the people of Kanabia and her allies, and the terrible side effects, personal, physical, economic, political and in terms of radiation will be felt by many in the years to come. The Aztec National League sends it's condolances and our deepest sympathy towards the good people and our comrades of Kanabia. This is truely a terrible disaster that I can not describe in words. We offer the government our full humanitarian, de-radiation and intellegence support. We also offer our support to the people and the government of Kanabia. The times to follow will be most difficult and will challenge the metel of society as a whole. But remain strong."

After that, the Soviet Congress stood up and gave the Premier a standing ovation.

Needless to say, S.C.B. 2231 (Soviet Congressional Bill) - The Anti-Terrorism Bill of 2004 was passed unaminously. It mandates the AIA (Aztlan Intellengece Agency) to search all incomming and outgoing cargo containers. Also, all bags over 50 pounds are prohibited on plane or trains. In addition, armed, undercover AIA agents will be on all flights and at transit terminals.

FPS Embassy Nuclear Bomb Shelter, Kanabia
Two minutes after broadcast.
Janitor Cooper Delts and FPSIA Agent Louis Cheewo sat at the command desk of the room, and watched the message again. And again. And again. Because as they watched it, the reality of the situation hit them.

They, having been the only ones inside the Nuclear Bomb Shelter at the embassy (Cooper cleaning and Louis working...after all, no one was ever down there, nice and quiet), were the only survivors of the seventy people working at the embassy. Probably two of few survivors in the entire area, in fact.

Cooper looked at Louis. "So, how much of the country do you think received the message?"

"Very little. From what I can tell, the entirety of the internet and phone systems of the majority of the nation, as well as the local power plant, have gone down. Not much they can do at the moment." Louis responded. "Luckily, we have our own generator, so were in good shape. We just gotta wait until rescue forces arrive to pull us out."

"Wait...what about helping the country?" Cooper asked.

"I don't think its possible. I mean, sure, the main transmitter still seems to be online, but it'd take the majority of our power to transmit that video..."

"So? The majority of our power? Look, all we have to do is transmit the thing back to command, and a text note saying that were still alive and what has happened, and need help. They'll send people for us, I'm sure...having power won't matter if they don't know where here."

"They'll know were here because the generator..."

"Bull, and you know it. Look, Louis, weve been friends for awhile, and I'm asking you to do this. I don't have the authority to order it, but if you won't, by God, I will."

"You will do no such thing. Transmitting to command will easily give up the fact that we have a secret transmitter down here, possibly causing an inter..."

"Are you kidding? Their entire damn nation is devestated. We'll be helping them. They'll thank us, not kill us..."

"...Fine. Fine, we'll do it. But as we run out of air in here, don't forget, I told you so."

"I assure you, that'll be my last thought. 'He told me so...damn.' Now, lets get to work man."

Seven minutes later, after setting up the transmitter, the message was sent. When they checked their power generator, they realized they had miscalculated how much power it could provide from the fuel stored in it.

They still had three days of the planned six months.

The FPSIA looked at the satilite pictures in horror, back at the two men, then at the pictures. "The embassy?" he asked.

"Gone, from what we can tell." the Nuclear Specialist sighed.

"Survivors? How many dead in all? Rescue teams?"

"We'd guess nearly 300,000 dead already, with six times that injured, and more coming."

The director swore. "We'll need to inform the presi...not right now!" he said, cutting himself off as an aid ran into the room.

"Sir, you'll want to see this." The man said, and, before anyone could object, he entered a cassete into the VCR.

"Get this tape, along with a premature report on whats happened to the press. Now. And tell the military to start scrambling response force...and tell them to make sure this, and whatever information we have on whats happened is rebroadcasted by our satilites. Theirs are probably down, lets help all we can. And I want a staff meeting in the war room, now."

OOC: I got it from Nuclear weapons FAQ. Ill post a link later.

3 hours after blast...

The message had worked, and across the country military units were being deployed. The internet was still down, and telephone and satellite communications were very difficult, and next to impossible to send messages overseas, but the military had pieced together the fact that there had indeed been a nuclear blast. Fighter patrols were launched all over the country, and aircraft flying over Kanabia were asked to either land, or divert to another country for their own safety, unless they could gain other approval.

Analysis of satellite pictures above the blast area had begun in Mt.Duval Strategic Command Center...It appeared to be an airburst...but no missiles were detected. A stack of reports were waiting to be examined to search for possible clues...and the second one from the top detailed a hijacking of a small passenger aircraft...

Presidents Office, Roquefort

"The telephone exchange was attacked?"
"Yes, sir. But I have far worse news..." The secretary told the President.
President Christopher Kotovesky sighed. "Fire away."
"Reports indicate so far that a nuclear blast occured in Kanazawa, approximately 3 hours ago..."
"What?!?"

KBA Building, Roquefort

The three military trucks turned left at an intersection, and into a militia checkpoint. They stopped.
"Papers please...oh! General Korenchkin!" The militia sergeant said in surprise.
"At ease, soldier."
"Of course. What is going on?"
"We're not sure, yet." The general lied.
"Very well. On your way then, comrade."
"Thank-you."

The trucks drove for another 3km or so and pulled up in front of the KBA (Kanabian Broadcasting Agency) building. The tough looking female security guard at the booth said curtly "May I help you, soldiers?"
Korenchkin replied "We have a special report to make to the population."
"Under whose authorisation, comrade?"
"Mine." Korenchkin pulled out his papers.
The guard didn't bother to read them. "Look, I don't know what is going on, but you can't barge in here. Get in touch with.."
Upon having 10 assault rifles pointed at her head, the guard fell silent.

Executive Building: Haton

"Prime Minister, we still cannot contact our embassy in Kanabia..." The Prime Minister let out a string of curses and ran his hand through his hair. "We need to contact them, satelittes show that the city of Kanazawa has been flattened." The man nodded, "We could send over some planes, it is quite likely their communication network will not be back up for some time. I am quite sure they could use some help." The Prime Minister nodded...

Revolution Sky Guards Base: Haton

2 large transport aircraft taxied off into the sky. They were emblazoned with both the Hattian flag and the symbol for the Hattian Foreign Aid Commisariat (A white sickle and hammer).

A few hours later...

The aircraft flew over the Kanabian coastline. Onboard they had various deradiation equipment and personnel, along with workers from the HFAC to treat the wounded. At various intervals, they broadcasted a radio message...

This is Flight 34H of the Hattian Foreign Aid Commisariat, we are here to provide aid. Please direct us to someone who can tell us what is going on.

"Citizens of Kanabia. I am here to give you a special report. This afternoon, a nuclear attack devastated the city of Kanazawa. This highlights a security risk that has been evident throughout our history...

(Korenchkin continued his speech...lambasting the current governments defence policies...)

....And so, this is why I call for you, citizens of Kanabia, to grant me joint Presidency for as long as it takes to ensure that we are no longer in need of my guidance in defending our great nation...I promise, we will eliminate any future threat such as this. We will strike those who would stand against us. These terrorists have awakened the tiger that is Kanabia, and we will not let them get away with it."

A week later...

The death toll in Kanazawa is estimated at 360,000. 700,000 are wounded and 100,000 of these are expected to die within a month. A large number of international embassies were blown away. The aid packages from Hattia and Ascendotuum are being put to good use, and the city and all surrounding areas have been evacuated in a massive relief effort. Additional international aid is requested.

A referendum regarding the joint presidency passed, with 52% of their population giving their support. Little did they know of Korenchkin's role in the blast, but he was now joint leader of Kanabia...

A tenuous alliance of necessity existed between the two presidents.

The internet and telephone systems were all back online, and the mysterious jamming of satellite communications had stopped.

Korenchkins Office

Korenchkin had not been able to get in touch with his lieutenant...she had dissappeared completely, taking the remaining nuclear bomb with her. Of course, he couldn't say anything, but he was seething. "The bitch...I should have guessed." he thought. Still, he didn't have to worry about that...for now. He held jointly onto the most powerful office in the nation and he was certain he could easily dispose of the democratically elected President Kotovesky. Now, time to plan flexing Kanabia's military muscles that had atrophied somewhat in their disuse...

Technocracia is appaled that anyone would carry out such an attack on a peace loving, socialist nation such as Kanabia. We will therefore send teams of NBC units to help locate survivors and helicopters and other assorted units. We can also airdrop in supplies if these are necessary. Just tell us what you want, and we will give it to you, as we realise that you may want a heck of a lot of equipment. However, we are willing to give our socialist allies all they need.

The PM had just arrived back at his house having been given the afternoon off by his wife. He had suffered a very mild heart attack and had been forced by her to take every Sunday afternnon off.

"Ah, isn't it nice, to country to worry about, no bombs going off in friendly nations."
The phone began to rang.
"Hey! I told you NO calls. It's just gonna have to wait to tommorow!"
"Yes, but thts the emergency phone."
He nervously walked towards it.
"Hello?"
"Hello Sir. We have reports of a nuclearbomb blast and mild internet failure. We have traced the internet trouble to Kanabia, and thats also where the reports are putting the bomb blast. We have put intel on it, but they won't be there for at least half an hour. We've also put CTA international branch on it. Considering they don't have any nuclear capability, as far as we know, so it's probably going to be terrorists or an enemy nations. Radar didn't see any missiles but it did see a small plane at the centre of the explosion. We'll keep our eyes open."
He paused, dumbfounded that someone could do such a thing.
"Sir?"
"Yes. I will be over staight away. Emergency planning centere. Send me the Defence Minister, the Terrorism Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Emergency Minister"
"Ok sir"
He hung up.

"Jane, there has been a nuclear explosion. Not here, but some Communist one. We were checking it and we were planning a partnership as part of the "Friendly Communist" initiative."

"Ok. I guess you have to go now. Will I do a press release?"
"Yes. Speak to Kate about it"

With that he left, the car which had taken him there had been sent back, and he was off to the Emergency Room.

16 Tu-95c's flew towards the Kanabian coast. Several miles behind them were a fleet of Cargo, medical and merchant vessels the ANL government used to send over supplies.

"This is ANL GloryEagle to Kanabian Air Control...We request permission to land to give supplies and personel to the damage repair efforts. We request landing clearance for 16 Tu-95c's at any availble civilan landing facility or military air base. We also have several ships approaching with relief supplies and personel. If you wish their assistance, please transmit coordinates to dock."

Tarenteor muttered to himself, staring at his viewing screen. "Uh, sir, do you want us to send in a hazmat team?" asked the tentative captain standing behind him. Taren nodded and waved him off. He was more worried about the capital at this point. Kanazawa was gone, there was nothing he could do. But the capital looked like it was goign to be in trouble too.

To Technocracia- Humanitarian aid would be useful to provide the 5 million evacuated citizens with shelter and food. We dearly appreciate your assistance.

"Thanks for the report, Tom.

A few hours ago, we began receiving reports of a nuclear blast, and loss of all communications systems in Kanabia. An hour and a half ago, upon confirming that this had happened, we began reporting to you on it.

Well, we now have more news. Half an hour ago, President Matthew Terrus stepped onto the floor of the FPS Joint Congressional Meeting, and declared that the incidents taking place in Kanabia were planned by terrorists, this being our first confirmed report of such.

He went on to ask Congress to authorize a large scale humanitarian aid package to Kanabia. Half an hour ago, we sat and watched as congressman began to debate and vote on the President's plan.

Well, we now have received information that the vote, one of the shortest in history, has come to an end. Already, around the country, we have reports of ships and aircraft loaded with food, water, medical supplies, large tents, and humanitarian aid workers begin their journey towards Kanabia.

When we come back, we'll tell you a little bit more about the situation. This is Kyl Walters, FPSNN."

The PM had just arrived at the Emergency Room.

"Sir, we have prepared 25 B-52 aircraft with lead sheilding."
"Ok, send them in. Do we have weather reports?"
"No"
"Well, we have enough of a distance, and a jet stream protecting us."
"Good. Do we have prjected casuaties?"
"Not really. We are guessing under a million."
"Ok. Lets get to work."

"Roger that...we are procedding to the Katora Military Airbase. We are glad to be of assistance. ANL GloryEagle out."

Among the crew workers, machinery, supplies and non-perishable food stuff sat a man wearing a green military issue jump suit. He looked down at his watch and took off his glasses. 4:38 PM. Only a couple of more hours before his his assignment began. He got up and headed to the cockpit.

"Sir, are you authorized to enter this area?" Asked a ANL gaurd, protecting the cockpit.

"Yes, name is Commander Miguel Ortega, verification code is 2-Alpha-Sigmus-Wilson."

The Gaurd moved aside, opened the door and said "Please enter, sir."

He entered the elongated cockpit, passed the navigator and the engineer and walked up behind the pilot's seat.

"Alright, what base are we heading to?"

The pilot recognized the voice. Promptly but calmly, the pilot responded "Katora Military Airbase."[i]

Commander Ortega said [i]"Ohh, that puts us pretty close to the disaster area. Hopefully we don't get irradiated."

The Pilot, a Major in the Red Aircore, laughed, "I doubt the Aztlan Intel. Agency wouldn't appricate their best man to die before you can meet with your Kanabian Contact."

Commander Ortega smiled and went back into the fuelsolodge. He opened a brief case filled with files and papers on his Kanabian contact, a loyalist agent witht he codename: Redfox.

Soon, the planes land while the ships continue on to Hudson Naval Base. Everyone disembarks off the plane including Commander Ortega.

The group's leader stood in front of everyone and said to the Kanabian officals "On behalf of the ANL, we come with supplies and assitance to help with this recent disaster."

Commander Ortega looked at each one of the Kanabian welcome party, hoping to find his contact.

OOC: Jonothana, you do of course realise that any flights over Kanabia with military aircraft would constitute an act of war, and my nation is significantly more powerful than yours. Not to mention, as the country is on the highest level of military readiness, with Combat Air Patrols covering the majority of the countryside and every radar site in the nation working overtime, your aircraft would likely be detected and have even less of a chance getting through to do whatever you are planning. Just letting you know.
