Foreign Policy -- how?

Greetings to the international community. I am Premier Eduardo Gregorio of the fledgling Republic of Voz Sabio. We are a nation of ideologues that is deeply committed to democracy, and the people have seen fit to elect me -- a constitutional scholar with no experience in politics -- as their leader. While I bow to the will of my people, I fear that I cannot adequately serve them without understanding internationally-sanctioned rules of trade and war.

I hasten to assure the United Nations that Voz Sabio has no intention, now or ever, of firing the first shot at another nation. We have nothing but the deepest respect for national sovereignty, and expect this respect to be reciprocated. But if we are to defend ourselves adequately against those who would breach this respect, we must know the secrets of warfare.

My thanks go out to those of you willing to help a young nation climb to its feet and stand alongside its neighbors.

Read the New Nations Super Thread in the Nationstates Forum that will help you alot. Its got everything you need to know to get started. Another good thing to do is to have other countries open embassies in your country.

Well, I'm surely thankful for your help. Unfortunately, the New Nations Super Thread's links to treatments of war, trade, and just about everything else are all down, presumably as a result of the forum shift that I take it happened recently. Is this something that will be fixed, or do I need to do some rooting through the UN archives?

The UN threads were similarly cleansed, and understandably so. I can't imagine too many hosting companies would be excited about lugging that many megabytes of unused information onto their servers. Since there are no real mechanical manifestations of foreign policy, it's all up to you. The more you role play, the better your international connections will be. We tend to have a fair bit of fun over in the UN forum, but it's more debate over issues and occasional diplomacy. The II forum is more storefronts, wars, and so on. It's all about the kind of gaming you want to do.

Im one of the few nations to dedicate an entire thread to my EXACT foreign policies. If you would like an example, here it is: http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=313302

Very interesting! Thanks for your help, and I apologize again for my naivete; something I read suggested that there was a single unofficial but widely-used set of rules of war.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to write an extra paragraph of our own to add to our nations' World Factbook entries? It would certainly organize things like statements of foreign policy!
