Thra-class Attack Aircraft Carrier
Named after the United Empire's Emperor, Maderic Thra, the Thra-class is an aircraft carrier of the future. The unique design reduces operating and maintenance costs, crew size, and improves stealth characteristics. Crew size is reduced through extensive shipboard automation, reduction in maintenance needs through the use of long-life/low-maintenance materials and equipment, reduction of administrative/paperwork overhead burdens, etc. Fueling and arming also see significant automation to reduce the number of personnel needed in these labor-intensive areas.
The Thra-class design allows for rapid change-out of major components to reduce maintenance time and expense. Stealth characteristics are enchanced by a dramatic reduction in the number of antenna carried topside, rounding and smoothing of flight deck edges, and a general "cleaning up" of the "clutter" (equipment, sponsons, superstructure, etc.) that is so common in many other aircraft carrier designs.
The Thra-class is considered an Attack Aircraft Carrier because of its incoperation of a heavier armament, in addition to its 82 aircraft. The most notable addition in the armament in a 31-cell Verticle Launch System.
