The Soviet Bloc Air and Space Commission (SBASC) has announced it has successfully launched the Oleynik Space-Based Radio Observatory and Communications Station into geo-stationary orbit over Soviet Bloc.

The satellite's purpose is to provide ARSB scientists with an unhindered view of the cosmos, much like the former Hubble telescope. The only difference, this massive satellite contains an optical telescope as large as the Hubble as well as an advanced radio telescope. Combined with this is a communications radio dish as well as an extensive communications system to bolster the ARSB's satellite-based communications system. This satellite will also act as the main point of communication between the ARSB and its military satellites as well as its manned space stations. To defend itself against threats, the satellite will maintain an extensive defensive suite including selective/movable jamming systems, anti-radar systems, low-yield luanchable EMP warheads, and satellite decoys. The Oleynik will also fall under the protection of OMS-3, a nearby manned military space station with three Soyuz A3 space vehicles/satellite-killers. OMS-3 also maintains ABM defenses.

The satellite was launched aboard three LPSR IV payload launch vehicles and assembled in stationary orbit above the ARSB by two crews of cosmonauts from OMS-3, a military space station, and a space shuttle crew from the Zvezda space shuttle. Construction lasted nearly a week.

The project has costed the ARSB an estimated $3.3 Billion USD and nearly 6 years of construction and development. The first transmission was received by ground personnel nearly an hour after diagnostics were run on the newly assembled satellite. Some low-ranking government officials were overheard babbling to the media about extraterrestrials... They were promptly thrown into mental institutions and the government denies any allegations that this station is meant to communicate with other intelligent life in the universe.

Chellis would like to give a friendly warning that post-atmospheric objects of any kind that arent chellian, that come above chellian lands, will be destroyed. As long as your new satelite stays geo-synchronous, it shouldnt be a problem. Just to avoid possible conflict in the future.

Might as well point out to you that in the course of 1 single NS day, over 500,000 satellites would pass over you. Considering how large the NS world is.

Actually, no. We destroy any satelites that are non-chellian that go over chellian land. NS is so large that its fairly easy to modify their routes to just barely not go over us, in which we are fine with. We do fire at any non chellian satelites that go above us, and we maintain 10 constant satelites over chellis, 5 over torres, 5 over chellian west africa and 2 over Mobica. This never changes, so when one more comes in, its fired at, because ours are in geo-synch.

OOC: non geo sync that are North to South facing will still go over you infrequently since the alignment of the earth will eventually have that. Also rotational sats on the same latitude will give over you. And to make the minor corrections would require a large amount of rocket fuel and booster engines every time the sat passes by to correct its course and then realign itself. So in conclusion you have lots of satelites going over you or your shooting down lots and will be paying lots of nations and corporations money for replacement satelites.

We shoot down any satelites that cross over chellian land, and no, we dont pay for them. We dont care what the cost is to not go over chellian land, we have our sovereignty and are protecting it. We let a very small amount of nations send theirs over our nation if told in advance, they shut down any imaging recording devices on it, it doesnt loiter over chellis, and we can keep an eye on it at all times.

We have fired and destroyed a number of satelites before.

IC: The USSCR, having tracked the location of the space-frozen feces, plants a large electrical output device in its mass. They are then kicked on a trajectory flying them over Chellis, their electrical signature that of a satellite.

Chellis: it is all a bit pointless as afterall you can get as good a satalittle image from outside your borders as directly over it (ok maybe not quite as brilliant but still more than good enough).

Of course with NS being the way it is what with every small nation have it's own huge sta network CR's estiamte of 1/2million is liekly conserative, in which case your actions are getting very very expensive...
