NAS Produces New 'Jackal' Sniper Round

The idea for the Jackal round was taken from the book 'Day of the Jackal' by Frederick Forsyth. During the book, the main character has a set of rifle rounds specially made with an amount of mercury inside.
When fired, the mercury is forced to the rear of the round, and upon impact is propelled forwards with great force, breaking through the outer layer of the round and scything through the target.
Practical testing proved the theory with great success, and a section of an existing manufacturing facility has been prepared for production of the round, which is to be available in 7.92x44 NAS, 7.62mm NATO and 7.62x51mm Russian only.

7.92x44 NAS - 10 USD p/20 rounds.

7.62mm NATO/7.62x51mm Russian - 25 USD p/20 rounds.

OOC: I don't think that the UN has made a rule against using this sort of round, but if anyone did, then they'd make one quick as thinking. Thus, UN nations will likely not be able to use this in a little while.

Hello, prospective purchasers. Why not purchase some rifle rounds? Even if it is just so you can say "My guy's gun shoots a foot-wide hole in your guy" or something of that sort...Go on, you'll like it once you've tried it...

We have terrorists who need lessons in pain and suffering. Mercury poisoning and wounds sounds like a good lesson for them.

7.62mm NATO rounds. 20 million. Half belted, half not.

25 million USD wired on confirmation

Hhmmm as a round deliberatly designed to cause huge wounds it could be covered by the geneva or whittier conventions but then again it's not as iff you are going to survive that big an injury... Of course mercury is a poison souldusing them could be considered as use of chemical weapons...

bah you would still be better using blended metal tipped rounds...

Whittier convention?

Dont you think that any nation would have the manufacturing facilities in place to put a bit of mercury in the back of a bullet on their own?

But does it make your typical well-trained sniper more effective? What is the advantage of the "Jackal" round over an equally-well placed shot with a conventional round? I tend to wonder why someone hasn't made a ceramic round with an engineered fracturing pattern for maximum effectiveness - or for that matter, a round consisting of a ceramic shell encasing a powdered magnesium & oxidizer filling - or any other "filling" that would vaporize and expand violently after penetration. If you could get a round to contain pressurized or liquified chlorine gas maybe - or phosphorous or sodium (just to be *really* evil)... but I digress...

it was an attempt at a NS version of the geneva conventions.
Mercury bullets would be rahter diffult to produce acutally it isn't the easiest of stuff to work with and you have the whole liqiud filled ammo problems which i'm sure exist but can't think of right now. of course any nation would ahve a team of specialised gunsmiths capable of producing these roudns in the volume required for thier very restricted use.

.92x44 NAS - 10 USD p/20 rounds.

50 crates please

That'll be 500 USD please.

Thankyoucomeagain.

Vasiva: Please bear in mind that so large a number of rounds will take quite a while to create.

Thankyoucomeagain.

OOC: The main advantage of using the Jackal round is the One-Hit-Kill. Imagine shooting someone in the leg with an FMJ round. It's going to hurt, they're going to lose a bit of blood, but it's very likely they'll live. Shoot them with a Jackal in the leg, however, and the results are very different. The mercury, being a liquid, will go all over the place. But due to also being rather heavy and travelling at high speeds, it will go through the target. It will shred the target.

True. But most normal people use 7.62mm. Anti-vehicle stuff isn't usually worth using on a target unless the target is in a VEHICLE. Thus, you shoot them with a Jackal for a similar effect.
