The assault began early on the morning of July 26, as many members of Shalrirorchia's Congress were getting down to work in the capital of Shalcoria. Islamic extremists of an as-yet unknown group penetrated the checkpoints manned by the Capital Police, killing several of them in the process. The terrorists proceeded to assault the Legislature itself. Several lawmakers were executed before an organized response could commence, and others taken hostage.
Army units of the Shalrirorchian Defense Force surrounded the compound with hundreds of soldiers, a number of armored personnel carriers and even several battle tanks. When it became clear that the hostages were in imminent danger, Shalrirorchian Special Forces Ranger teams attacked, killing many of the terrorists and retaking possession of the Legislature. But the fighting was not yet done.
Surviving terrorists fled in civilian vehicles reinforced with armor plating. As they fled, they detonated a Class-Three explosive device within the Legislature building, destroying a substantial portion of the structure and slaughtering an entire team of the elite Rangers. The terrorists did not escape, however...the Defense Force soldiers manning the perimeter opened fire, riddling the cars and their occupants with literally hundreds of M-16 rounds.
Shalrirorchia has declared a state of emergency, and has declared martial law in the Arkady Islands, a territory long tormented by strife between competing factions including an Islamic separarist movement, a native Shalrirochorite resistance group, and a multinational criminal element similar to the Mafia.
