The combat had long since ended and Cher'nubus sat glumly, there was a huge mound of zombie bodies, dark blood running like rivers from dark pile. Gunfire began to waft into earshot, gunfire and screams, Cher'nubus jumped up and yelled "Thats the rescue party! C'mon, lets MOVE!" The remaining soldiers, numbering 5 with the 2 acolytes still alive, the whole group jumped up and sprinted through the dark streets until they came to a large party engaged in combat with an unending torrent of deformed creatures.

"Death before dishonour!" Cher'nubus yelled with reverence, a proud echo followed him, death before dishonour, the echos came, like ghosts of the past cheering him on. And with that, they charged.

Abdul and Gamal ran down the street. They hoped everyone would keep up with them, but couldn't be sure. A crowd of zombies ran out of an alleyway and charged at the two men.
"Allahu Akabar!" Abdul yelled as he went into a religious frenzy and sprayed into the crowd with surprising results. Most of the zombies were hit in the head, Gamal finshed off the rest. They continued fighting their way through the streets so they may escape this accursed city.

Dr Schacht and Eva had each been running forward, each armed with an MP5 with a laser sight. The red dot would fall over a zombies head and seconds later it would burst like a watermelon. The air outside still stank of death and decay. They had been bogged down fighting in this ruin of a city for over three grueling days now.

Schacht and Eva had taken cover a few hours ago inside a building. Paul Stahlecker and the woman he was with had also taken cover in another part of the building. Abdul and Gamal were across the street in a different building, most of the 16 or so soldiers that were still alive from the group that had left the hotel were scattered in groups of 2 or 3 up and down the street.

Eva was sleeping and Schacht was standing guard, keeping a watchful eye out to make sure she was able to sleep in peace while the city came crashing down around them.

Fabus City, Libya, the jewel of the new white dominated Libya. Meant to symbolize the power and authority that the Premier exercises even over the remote regions of his empire. Now it symbolized death, well living death. And the folly of man for dabbling in things he was never meant to experiment with. It was not man's right to create the virus that could do that, turn the living into the living dead, and rob them of peaceful sleep. But man had done it, and now man was paying.

Eva stirred from her sleep and saw Schacht was awake, she knew he was keeping an eye out so she could sleep. She asked him if he was okay, he replied he was fine and thanked her for asking, and then he asked her how she was doing.

In the building across the street, Abdul and Gamal hit the jackpot: there was a weapons cache filled with RPGs and mortars, and several machineguns. Abdul exchanged his AKS74u for an RPD, and Gamal exchanged his for an AKM. Both men taped flashlights and lasers to their weapons. Both of them also took an RPG-2 with two spare rounds, and restocked their grenades. Gamal was an excellent mortarman, and set up an 80mm mortar on the roof of the building. Abdul would find targets with his binoculars, and Gamal would bring the rounds right on top of them. The zombies would look around in confusion when they heard the whistle of the mortars(it sounded like water boiling), and would be blown to peices when the rounds fell right on top of them. Eventualy they ran out of mortar rounds, and went back downstairs.

Staying close to Schacht, the Parthian trio carefully attacked the oncoming dead. Every building stank of death and contained more of the walking corpses. Osroes unleashed a burst into the head of an oncoming zombie, blowing its head off and freeing the soul of the restless dead.

IC: The Kriegos fought back-to-back with their CM allies, Cher'nubus twirled about, hefting his G-11 this way and that, each one spitting a trio of bullets at a perverse form of life, usually in the head. Screams could be heard, Cher'nubus yelled as his face was illuminated by the angry muzzle flash. Cher'nubus' expression of anger turned to anguish as another of the rescue squad went down, he saw Klie'kush still fighting on to protect his master, with a fierce set of desperation marking his face.

They had all made it out of the city, and now they were reflecting back on what happened when they awoke on the last day in the city and they made the final miles to the airport. They would all forever remember the hell that had occurred that day in the city of the damned, the city of the dead, the living dead. They burning ruins, the smell of rotten and decaying flesh had hung in the air. It was a hell, a hell on earth.

Dr. Schacht was in his large mansion in Madison County, a king amongst peasants. His castle of a house stood in stark contrast to the mostly working class homes a few miles away.

He was sitting at one of the dinning tables eating breakfast, he was reading the newspaper. Eva was also there with him eating as well. She had since moved to Mississippi as the zombie incident in Fabus City in Libya had been over 24 weeks ago.

Since then, her mother had successfully been treated of her problems in Angola by the doctor that Schacht spoke of, then Angola had fallen, and now robots were plaguing the nation. Fabus City had been rebuilt and repaired, and repopulated by people who fled Angola. The whole incident had been expertly covered up and labeled as "Arab extremists biological terrorism". The bodies of the dead were all cremated as they were stated to have contagious agents in their systems.

Schacht was thinking back to the city, mostly to how he fired so many rounds through his MP-5N, that the barrel warped from the extreme heat in just one day.

Schacht, sitting with his right leg resting over his left knee folded the paper and set it down, then he started to speak, "So Eva, how are you this morning?"

"Fine, I dreamt about the Zombie Incident last night" She said expressing Zombie Incidents very slowly...

"I still have nightmares about it..."

Schacht moved his seat back slowly, the arm of the chair tapping softly against the table. He stood up and moved over towards Eva, he puts his arms gently around and said, "It'll be okay, don't worry, it's over", his soft embrace and the warmth of his body comforted her.

Schacht couldn't help but think back to the incident though. He flashed back to when he shot down a mutated soldier from Bravo Company of the Special Republican Guard. The soldier was staggering forward and moaning, "Maahhhh", Schacht calmly raised his MP-5N and let a burst loose that impacted several rounds into the chest, it hardly phased the creature. So he let another burst loose and swept the gun up as he fired, three rounds hit it in the neck and two in the head. The zombie fell over with a splat as coagulated blood oozed from the wounds.

He shook the thought out of his head and then came back to the present, concentrating on comforting Eva. "Will you be okay? You wan't to talk about it?"

"I remember it well...." [flashback mode ;) ]

"Come Baldur! We must run!"

Eva broke into a sprint, whilst shooting at the scores of zombies behind her. Two died immediately, their heads blown off and proppeled backwards. She should have concentrated on running though. She tripped up on one of the many broken automobile crates that lay strewn across the streets. She felt the taste of blood in her mouth. She swallowed it. Then she realised that it was not her blood: it was zombie blood. She made an effort to get up, but her leg had lodged itself between two of the pieces of wood. She reached for the antidote in her pocket, it was out of her reach.....

She had lost the anti-virus, but Schacht had enough spares for the both of them, he injected her in the arm and then as she started to slip into unconsciousness from the anti-virus spreading throughout her body, he carried her into a nearby building and she slept for over 14 hours while he stayed awake and kept guard. She had no idea how many zombies he killed during that time, but she was certain it was a large number. It was when most of the units with them got scattered and men were holed up in buildings in groups of 3-4. The remnants of Alpha Company merged with Bravo Company and a team from Charlie Company came in as well.

All she remembered was feeling how cold her body was, but sensing the heat of the flames around her as the fires spread throughout the city. She also remembered sensing Schacht was there, watching over her, keeping her safe while she slept.

Schacht said, "Well it's still dark out, but the clouds have been blocking out the sun since this thing started. Sort of a bad omen I guess. Well are you okay? You gave me an awful fright, you were infected with the virus, I injected the cure into you and then brought you here to sleep, it's been probably well over 12 hours now. Do you want to rest some more or keep moving? The airport is only about 8 miles away, not all that far, just a brisk walk for a while and we're there." Schacht yawned and then sat down on a broken desk and leaned against the wall, he checked the magazine in his MP-5N before he set it down on the table next to him. But then he picked it back up because it looked odd. "The barrel is warped", he said, as he tossed the gun down on the floor and pulled out his pistol, chambering a round. "I'm going to go take a look around here, maybe find another gun, okay. Will you be okay for a few minutes alone?"

Schacht walked back into the depths of the building; it was largely in ruins as there was evidence a struggle had taken place. He clutched his pistol tighter in his hands as he began to feel sweet dripping down. He pushed open the door to an office room, it slowly creaked open. He jumped inside, expecting to be confronted by something, anything... But there was nothing, just a large oak desk with an open briefcase on it, papers were hastily arranged on the desk and scattered across the floor. There was a coat in the corner, draped over something.

Schacht wondered what it was. He slowly walked forward and pulled the coat up... "Yes!" he exclaimed, as he saw the G-36 that had been covered by the coat. He holstered the pistol and then picked up the rifle, he checked the rifle and found it was loaded... He chambered a round and then took six magazines from a nearby drawer that he forced open.

Schacht was puzzled though, why would anybody who appeared to be leaving in a hurry, leave their gun. Maybe they got caught outside the room and had to flee, not having time to get into the room to get their rifle. Well, whatever happened, Schacht was glad to have the rifle. He turned and walked out of the room, slowly walking back to where Eva was. He sat down by her side and she looked at him, he asked her, "Are you going to be okay Eva?"

Nearby artillery units on the outskirts of the city had begun to open up a bombardment on coordinates Paul Stahlecker called in. Over 2,000 zombies would be decimated and cut to pieces by the precisely accurate artillery.

But she realized it wouldn't get a signal... The CM government had ordered the colonial forces to jam all communications out of the city so nobody could tell anything to anybody about the zombies.

Schacht was running low on magazines for the G-36, he was also starting to get tired, she could tell he was very tired. He'd been running at almost his maximum speed for over an hour, dodging zombies, ducking in buildings to get to alleys when roads were blocked. There were twisted wrecks of cars strewn about and he'd had to jump over several of them, it was taking it's toll on him. He had thought the airport was only about 6 miles, and it was, but the detours caused by the wrecks and overturned trucks, would add about 3 more miles to the trip.

He was running forward when a zombie jumped out of an alley and slashed him across the chest, he jumped back and shot it twice it the face and three times in the chest, the blood splattered all over him, getting in his eyes and all over his face. He asked Eva, "Are you okay?" as he continued to run on, knowing he had to get to the airport in time to inject himself with the cure. She was wondering why he was still running when he'd just been infected. the airport was about a 2.5 hours away, it would be a race against time.

Schacht didn't want to stop and risk her getting hurt, he was never really a gambling man, but he was betting he could make it to the airport, with just enough time to inject the cure into his system and then he'd sleep on the plane.

Schacht kept running, struggling to breathe, itching at his arms and neck, he was sweating profusely now and was complaining how hot it was out (it's only about 71ยบ F) "No Eva, you rest, I'll be fine." She noticed the back on his neck was sweating profusely.

He kept on running and ran for what seemed liked miles (3 to be exact) before he collapsed to his knees from exhaustion, she was still on his back, he insisted she just, "Wait a minute, I'm fine, just need to get some water." He took a drink of water and continued to run forward, well stagger forward. His vision was starting to blur, she could tell he was having a very difficult time seeing where he was going. He almost ran into a sign. He had only managed to kill zombies now by spraying his gun wildly as he could no longer see well enough to aim, and his concentration started to get thrown off. He staggered into a law office to take a detour around a blockade of cars and he collapsed, he was unconscious, it had been over 140 minute since he was infected and he'd made it to within 3.5 miles of the airport.

Eva climbed off his back and realized he was unconscious, she saw the pouch he had where the antivirus injections were. She opened it up, it was there, intact... He managed to lapse back into consciousness, "No Eva, I must stay awake... Protect you.... From..." he drifted back into unconsciousness. She saw a couch nearby and dragged him to it then slowly managed to lift him onto it. She injected the cure into him and then picked up his rifle to sit and wait until he awoke.

Or perhaps because she left her mother at home: alone.

Eva shivered. She pulled out a blanket and laid it over Schnaut. She knew he was fevering, but she knew better than to leave him to the mercy of the howling winds. He moaned in his sleep, she kissed him on the forehead. Eva took a look over the cars. The zombies appeared to be gone, although she very much doubted that. They probably waited in ambush for them, or mabye not. Eva shivered again, and maintained her vigil over Schnaut....

You are okay right?" He always seemed mored concerned about her even when he was the one in trouble. (Product of CM society, men are generally more concerned with the health and safety of women)

"Thank you" She replied "You gave me a fright. Thankfully, no zombies attacked us. Although the temperature did drop to 2*! This is Africa, not the Artic!" She said whilst laughing.

Schact laughed back, and struggled into a sitting position. He then groaned as he sat up as his back really hurt him.

The BMP rolled into the airport and there was a plane waiting. Paul Stahlecker, the woman he was with, and about 12 of the SRG soldiers they started out with, were waiting for them.

Schacht struggled out of the BMP and two SRG men helped him and Eva get onto the plane and then they were seated on the plane.

The plane got airborne after everybody was on it. As they were flying over the city, Eva looked out and saw most of the buildings were ruined piles or rubble, clouds of smoke floating up from the flaming wrecks.

As they were getting out of the city, she saw a lone object streaking through the sky, like a bullet flying from a gun, leaving a trail of flames behind it.

Suddenly a bright flash erupted and the pilot shouted over the intercom, "Don't look!"

The plane was hardened against any EMP that the IRBM might produce.

She shielded her eyes and then couldn't help but peak at the mushroom cloud that shot up into the sky. Below, the city was still standing, but nothing organic was there anymore, the neutron weapon had wiped it all out.

Schacht looked at Eva and said, "It's over, it's finally over."

The army units had all been pulled back hours ago, and the unit that found them had been the last to leave, they were lucky... Very lucky...

The colonial senate had voted 46-4 in favor of destroying all life (an un-life) in the city by firing the missile...

Not quite my friend... We must now do a few posts on what happens to the characters after... Also we have to mention how Fabus City Libya was rebuilt virtually overnight so nobody on the outside knew what happened. Also the massive cover-up so it looked like "Islamic terrorism", etc.
The Parthians

Piruz was glad to have survived the night of horror. By the time the BMP-3 had arrived the Parthian was on was on the last magazine of ammunition. He was exausted, the night had been sleepless as him and his bodyguards had become separated and ran into a crowd of zombies. In the ensuing firefight, Phraotes and Osroes had told Piruz to run into a nearby building and lock the door behind him. The two bodyguards cut down rows of the hellspawn with G-3s until running out of ammo and then with their bayonets, cutting more to pieces and splattering themselves with blood. As they knew they were about to transform into hellspawn, they took their pistols and shot themselves. Piruz knew that the horrors he had experienced would haunt them until he died.

Piruz walked over to Stahlecker, "how soon could I get a flight home or a phone call to the Shah?"

Ooc- They'd better have been on the last plane out, (read back 1 page)

Schacht and Eva were separated from the others, the Parthians and Stahlecker made it to the airport about 30 minutes before Eva and Baldur.

Eva was suddenly back at the table, eating, Schacht was there, standing next to her, comforting her, "Are you okay Eva? You seemed lost in thought, were you thinking about Fabus City?"

"They rebuilt all the destroyed buildings and repaired the damaged buildings. They used a neutron bomb instead of a nuclear bomb, so damage to the structures was minimal. Most of the destroyed buildings were destroyed in the fighting. They then moved in a similiar amount of people, who were refugees from other nations, virtually overnight and either used memory altering medications or massive bribes to get everybody to go along with it."

Abdul and Gamal had finnaly escaped the bloody city. They quickly went back to work on their guerrilla sniping campaigns. Sadly, Gamal was killed in battle when an Mi24 picked up his position and strafed him with rockets.
