TDC BREAKING NEWS

Hello, I am Joao Carlos, reporting for Telediffusion Commonwealth. We have breaking news coming into the newsroom. 15 Boa Vistan airliners were shot down just outside of the western air corridor that the aircrafts usually use. Our field reporter, David Brosnan, has the details.

David Brosnan speaks
Joao, the debri field, I am told, is bigger than 23 football fields. I am also told that all passengers on the airliners, a total of more than 800 people, were killed. Most of them are Boa Vistan nationals, some of them are nationals of other countries. The flights that are affected by this tragedy includes the following:

FlyVista! flights 555, 104, 506
VistaAir flights 1043, 5606, 4490
Praia Airways flights 13, 88, 95
Barlavento Airways flights 558, 203, 698
InterVista flights 442, 675, 102

Joao, I am also told by sources within the government that these flights were not suffering from any mechanical problems. This leaves us to wonder whether a terrorist attack or a war is upon us.

Joao speaks
Thank you. David Brosnan reporting at the scene. We will bring you live coverage of the event on TDC News 24 and TDC Global. We are just informed that the President, Josh Callaghan, is about to address the nation on this matter. Let's listen in.

Commonwealth President Josh Callaghan speaks
Good morning. Today, our nation has suffered a tragedy of catastrophic proportion. 15 airliners, all owned by Boa Vistan companies, were shot down by unknown sources just outside of the western aviation corridor. As of now, all passengers on those flights, a total of more than 800 people, are lost and assumed dead.

At this time, the Commonwealth Department of Intelligence is gathering more information about the attackers, and when such information are available, we will announce them. This attack will be considered as an act of war, and the nations or terrorist groups responsible for this are now in a de facto state of war with the Commonwealth.

Therefore, with the powers vested in me as the Executive Admiral of the Commonwealth Armed Forces, I have raised the Military Preparedness Level to Condition 1 (State of War) and has sent 5 Search and Rescue squadrons to the debri field to recover the destroyed airliners.

Also, all Aviation Corridors are now closed by the Armed Forces, and the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eigth Home Air Squadron are now enforcing the closure. The three contingent Aviation Corridors, established under the Commonwealth Territorial Defence Act of 1995, are opened. Fighters from the ninth, tenth, and eleventh air squadrons will be escorting airliners through the Air Corridors.

I assure you that this nation will be able to survive this crisis, and that we will defeat any enemies responsible for this act of atrocity. Thank you.

MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF COMMONWEALTH PRESIDENTIAL MINISTER ON PUBLIC AFFAIRS

The Commonwealth Armed Forces Search and Rescue Team has found, in the debri field, missile fragments that are not identifiable. We have also recovered a missile fragment bearing some sort of logo that are beyond recognition, due to charring and other factors. This suggests that this might be an attack by another nation, however, information as to the attackers are sketchy at this time.

Also, The Commonwealth Government is sad to learn that 60 Khata Nationals, along with 15 Microphobias Nationals, and 2 Layarteb Nationals are on board the airliners that were destroyed. The President of the Commonwealth wishes to send its deepest condolences to the families affected by this tragedy.

The President of the Commonwealth also wishes to thank the nations of Layarteb and Microphobias for their offers of help. Your help is needed in this time of national tragedy.

The aircraft arrived on schedule. One was a C-17A Globemaster III, which would be used to ferry back the bodies as well as any materials that they could obtain from the Boa Vistan government. The other two were a pair of modified Learjets. Out of one climbed two diplomats, hoping to assist with the foreign policy/relations nightmare that this incident caused. They were experienced with this sort of thing, especially from the war with Dnalkrad. Out of the other climbed sixteen men, dressed in suits and resembling bodyguards but not exactly. No one knew exactly who they were but they followed the two diplomats and their bodyguards closely. They were most likely analysts of some sort, experienced in the field of aircraft disasters.

Secret Note: The 16 men are two teams of Black Ops from Force Thunder.

As the Layarteb delegation pulled up to the crash site, word came over the radio of more aircraft down. The captain of a trawler called in an emergency that three aircraft were allegedly shot down over Boa Vistan waters. Immediately, the diplomat was on the phone to the capital but luckily they affirmed that whatever aircraft were downed were not from Layarteb or carrying any Layartebians. They could do nothing as they were hundreds of miles away from the crash site. The diplomats immediately disembarked to get to the Boa Vistan officials overseeing the crash site. The sixteen men also disembarked, half of them immediately going to the crash site and the other half to check around the area.

Overhead, flying at 85,000 feet, an SR-71A Blackbird overflew the area, taking pictures for analyzation by Layartebian officials back at the base. The SR-71A was in and out of the area in seconds, flying at Mach 3.2 the entire time.

Approximately two kliks into the forest, the eight men found something. "Mike, come here, take a look at this." Russell said through his communication system, which comprised of an air piece that was barely visible and there was a microphone on their throat, also barely visible, that picked up their speech through the vibrations of their throat. Immediately, two team members joined the one that was searching the ground.

"What is it Russ?" Mike asked as he approached.

"What does that look like to you?" Russ pointed to a black spot on the ground. "Charred?"

"Yes sir. That's the exhaust effect from a MANPAD. What would that be doing here?" Mike smirked.

"Shooting down a civilian airliner?" John, the third one said.

"Just a guess huh?" Russ sarcastically replied.

"Very well. Let's get a sample for analysis." Russ nodded as Mike crouched down with a glass bottle and a spoon. The other five men were at a similiar charred pattern roughly three kliks away, deeper into the forest. Footprints and dropped cigarette butts were being collected near both patterns. It was a good find for both teams.
------------------------------------------------------------
At the crash site, the other team had already swiped several fragments of the jet that had unusual charring themselves, most likely from a chemical reaction, such as an explosion. Tissue samples of those sitting in the seats closest to the charring were also taken, though very subtly. Their goal, by the end of the week, was to have a positive ID on the type of weapon used, what happened, and who shot it.

The spread of the wreckage was common to that of an aircraft being taken down by a surface-to-air missile. Analysts already affirmed that the aircraft was at an altitude of 28,000 feet when it was struck by a small surface to air missile that evidently caused major damage to a major system. The aircraft than crashed into the ground at what appeared to be around five hundred miles per hour, indicating that the pilots were certainly alive at the time of the crash, most likely struggling to gain control of it. Analysis of the black boxes would be the ultimate truth as to what happened.

"Why should I trust a conspiracy theorist?"

The sun was setting on the horizon and it seemed that the day was over for them, at least for now. The evidence they found throughout the forest and in the plane wreckage was certainly more than they were expecting to find. However, things were not going to go unturned. Of the sixteen unknown men, eight stayed behind as the other eight, taking the samples and evidence they collected with them, returned to their makeshift base of operations. In the short amount of time between the time of the crash to the time they were notified to the time that they were ready to leave, they had a base of operations set up. Operatives inside Boa Vista, from the previous terrorism wave several years ago, had managed to secure a 17th century mansion from a historic society. The mansion was staffed by eighty operatives of both the Layarteb Department of the State and the 2nd Black Operations Unit, Force Thunder.

All of the equippment just flown in was dropped off at the mansion already and analysts were awaiting the samples. It was a four and a half hour drive from the crash site to the mansion, mostly through uninhabited woods. They would need a helicopter of some sort to ferry between the two locations and the diplomats at the crash site were working on just that, trying to get a pair of Army Black Hawks for use for the time. If not, they would simply ask if they could have their own flown in via C-5.

http://media.wwte.com/hotels/1000000/560000/559700/559616/559616_1_b.jpg

Finally, when the ride was over and the operatives at the mansion, codename Base Boa, the sun was completely gone. Massive lights shown on the wreckage back at the crash site and the eight men that remained were scowering the crash site still and the woods, the latter using advanced night vision goggles. Each one of them hid a sidearm, Mk.23 SOCOM pistols, and four clips aside from the twelve-round one already in the weapon. If additional firepower was needed, there was, available at Base Boa, a full assortment of submachine guns such as MP5s and UMPs as well as assault rifles and heavy rifles such as M4 Carbines, Scouts, and M24s.

Analysts immediately went to work with the samples and evidence, cross referencing the DNA on the cigarette butts with those in the main Layarteb Intelligence of Terrorism Database. The charring patterns from the ground were also analyzed as well as the tissue samples and fuselage samples taken from the wreckage. Early analysis immediately revealed something new and highly dangerous.

Dr. Malarcky, the head of the Boa Vistan scientific team, immediately called over the Force Thunder team and notified the Minister of Intelligence. "Gentlemen, what we have here is something new, very new. These chemical reactions are not consistant with a standard high-explosive warhead found on most man-portable surface-to-air missiles. See these patterns here," he pointed to the computer screen, "this type of charring and pattern indicates extremely high temperatures so much that some of the fuselage has actually melted into molten metal. However, this is not a direct hit. What you have here, most likely is a piece very close to the blast, which from the wreckage and debris field, I can conclude that the missile never actually hit the aircraft directly but it was a very near miss, unfortunately too near. My contact in the Boa Vistan government tells me that analysis of the black boxes show that the aircraft lost all engine power and entered a stall, which was unrecoverable. From the intense heat shown here, I can only theorize that the explosion, whatever it was, was hot enough to completely disrupt the airflow into the engines, causing the stall. Altitude at time of impact was twenty-eight thousand forty-seven feet. No MANPAD can go that high gentlemen. This is certainly something very new."

"Do you know what kind of chemical explosion there was?" The Force Thunder team leader asked.

"Something that offers very high temperatures when combined with air and some other chemical. This is a three part explosive warhead, one part air and two parts something else. Like a fuel air device but something much more advanced. So advanced that I have recommended that if we decipher what it is, we do our own weapons development on it."

"Very well. Good work doctor. Keep it up!"

The doctor returned to his work, still in awe of the new explosive device he had affirmed. Whatever it was, it wasn't normal!

IC: The ISTJ delegate patiently waited for the briefing to begin, after an hour of absolutely no information their leader made his way through numerous flunkies and made a simple demand of the most influential individual present.

"Give us some answers or we will conduct this investigation by ourselves and make no mistake foreign intervention will not be appreciated or recognised as having friendly intentions. We've had citizens lost, money expended and more aircraft attacked but yet no movement forward by your government or your field agents, correction of the matter would be in the interest of continued joint-working."
With that he turned around, moved back through the flunkies still a little confused as to what the man had actually set to their chief to get him in such a flap.

"So whats going on here?" The inspector said

"Oh, nothing realy, just protographing and makeing observations" the unidenified man said.

"Ok, well some oher members of our goverment will be arriveing shortly.

Buried deep inside the command center, the men from Force Thunder and their support staff scanned hundreds of images taken throughout the forest and even scanned an interactive 3D model created by an imaging satellite. It was so accurate that discolorations from the sun in dirt and the moss growing on rocks was distinguishable. They were going over every square inch of terrain, though a giant supercomputer was doing most of the work, operating at a speed of 800 terrabytes per second. It was one of the fastest computers ever created, a fourteen million dollar project. Only eighteen of them existed and all of them were in Layartebian control.

As the computer scanned the terrain, the sixteen men from Force Thunder used the old fashioned way to scan over digital images of "suspect" areas identified by the computer. They used magnifying glasses to scan the crystal clear images, looking for the slightest non-natural element. Each time the computer found something that did not fit into the terrain it red flaged the area and printed out digital images. One hundred and eighty-five areas had been red flaged, some as small a few inches and another as large as thirty square feet.

The task was grueling but that was investigation work and they were all the best at it. They were done at the crime scene, for now. In the morning they would head back out via helicopter and search each red flag location by hand, hoping that the weather and those at the crash site were not going to stumble upon them. These were areas both around the crash site and deep in the woods. Already they had identified footprints, eighteen sets of them, each distinct and different. There had been eighteen people in those woods when that plane went down and all eighteen were definitely involved.
*********************************************
Dawn came and the men awoke, having got three hours of sleep, enough to keep them going for the rest of the day. They boarded a pair of Army MH-60 Black Hawks, just flown in overnight via C-5. They came with their crews and weaponry, two GAU-2 miniguns per helicopter. Fuel supplies were dropped in on the compound overnight as well and construction of a small helicopter field was to be undertaken. The compound sat on four hundred and eight acres, enough to have a small airstrip.

They choppered to the site and began the grueling task of searching the now three hundred and forty-six areas. Most would turn out to be superficial and just the computer being oversensitive but as for the rest, they collected enough evidence to fill most of the second Black Hawk.

It would to be only us two out of an original cast of several, so it isn't only the host that's MIA. If you want to continue then I'll support your move and do what I can to keep it going for you.

It can't possibly continue mainly because of Microphobias. He was key in this whole thing, even if Boa Vista left, he was RP'ing in the group that was causing all of this. This really had potential too.

Then I share your discontent, guess you could attempt to reach a conclusion and save the outcome for a later date in another thread.

Honestly, I could with a raid but then it'd be a godmod since my forces would raid the terrorists, kill them, bring them to justice, etc. :: boring ::
