It was a weary but thankful group of Sagissimans that finally arrived at New Orleans airport. This is also apparent from the sentence construction of your post.

The explosion shook the chapel where Domingo was praying with the Franciscan brothers. They rushed through the now-smokefilled cloisters to the courtyard - where once the entrance hall had been was now a gaping hole!

1) We protest in the strongest terms against the arbitrary arrest of our citizen in so-called ‘Communist’ Mississippi, and against the abuse endured by the most respected head of the Church in The Most Serene Republic of Santa Sagissima. We call on all other nations represented at this conference to join in this protest.
