A Nation States Map

This should be sorted out so that all regions can have suitable spacing and that when we attack one another we can properly see the distance any force would have to travel.

that would be difficult since there are over 5,000 regions(est.) on NS

However continual expansion of nations, regions and the formation of new ones will mean that the map will have to be updated virtually everyday, no easy task.

Not to mention the non terrestrial nations, such as myself.

Then theres the nations that have colonys and empires in space and all that, that is also a difficult task

Nearly impossible. New nations join every day. New regions start up almost everyweek by the time you've made up a map it will be out of date and useless. Although a nice thing to have if you have to updated basically everyweek it would be an impossible thing to accomplish.

You dont need all of the 800,000+ nations, only the Modern Tech Earth based II RPers.

A vertually impossable task, and for me, Aust is situated in the center of Antartica with only a small strip of land leading to the sea.

I thought about doing this once, but gave up after a while tinking about it.

The best thing to do is assume this world is a blown-up version of the RL world which somehow has the same gravity as RL Earth. People can claim to be in certain places on Earth.

Or we just assume the NS world is a water world where nations are islands spread out over an infinate ocean.

Or even just assume there are many worlds out there, and to RP we simply go fom world to world.

What about a simple map: The Rejected Realms in the very centre surrounded totally by the Pacific. The North Pacific bordering its north, the East Pacific bordering its east etc. These could be bordered by "The North", "The East" etc. Each region could decide into which one they fit, giving just a basic idea as to where a region is, which could be expanded later.

I envision a 3D map of sorts divided by longitude, latitude, and altitude. Still no reasonable way update it dynamically.

Where would you place Hell on such a map? Not to mention those of us nations therein?

And a subcategory of extraterristeral nation, those that are a couple of million light years away...

I think it would be easier to just simply encourage nations to make their own maps of their nations. Several nations have done so, as have I: http://www.freewebs.com/nation-of-crossman/geography.htm

My nation is underwater, surrounding the island Cyprus.

ooc: This feature sounds more suitable for NS2.

What about when several Nations occupy the same RL land?

I say don't worry about it, we've roleplayed this long and we've been fine...it isn't nearly worth the trouble.

For what it's worth, though, my region is a series of islands cut of by a few hundred miles of sea from everywhere else, so we'd be easily extensible :P However, on NS2, this might be more of an issue.

Yep, it would become a issue, the map would be lovely in NS2 however.

Nothing like sitting on a island of your own, drinking a beer, and watch the ocean
