The LRRA has recently reviewed the condition of its somewhat aging APC-3 armored personnel carriers, and has determined that they are too expensive to maintain and not effective enough against modern tanks.
Because of this, the LRRA has begun the development of the CV-90P armored personnel carrier, with the final production run expected to total 20,000 vehicles of the ambulence and APC variants.

The CV-90P will be able to carry 10 troops in a fully NBC-sealed hull capable of withstanding RPG hits and high-caliber shots. The use of composite materials reduces production cost, and weight, to the point where the vehicle costs less than 1 million USD and can float too.
The CV-90P will be powered by a hybrid diesel/electric motor, the same as is found in the APC-3 (with minor changes of course). This powerplant arrangment reduces greenhouse gas emissions to very low levels, and increases range. The vehicle's IR signature is also reduced. With the addition of a Barracuda signature managment system, which fits around the vehicle, its thermal signature is even further reduced.
The CV-90P will likely be armed with a 14.7mm MG and a pair of AGM-56 MOD or EFOGM MOD ATGMs, the MG operated by the commander and the missiles operated by the gunner. This will enable the CV-90P to engage heavily armored targets out to 15 kilometers, as well as threats to the carried infantry at close range.
The CV-90P is designed to give infantry divisions an armored vehicle that, along with the Wiesel 3, can give footsoldiers heavy fire support and protection against tanks, as well as cover and a means of transport during assaults.
