GEI International news broadcast-
"...Earlier today, the Generic Empire declared open war on the nation of McQuaid, for what it calls "slandering the Empire's reputation." This comes after a nuclear attack in Tblisi, and McQuaid's placing of the blame on Emperor Vladimir Kreschnev II. Both sides' military forces have been mustering for the past few days, and with this closing of the diplomacy phase, they are sure to see action soon. No predictions for the length or cost of the conflict have been made yet..."
Grenval supports its ally, GE, see the other threads.
Izistan has medical teams present in McQuaide. Hostile action taken against the teams will result in miltary action against the agressor.
(This is for the benefit of nations that are just taking note of the action.)

In Port Belgrade, soldiers were arriving from all over the empire to wait to board the ships traveling across the Black Sea. McQuaid shores would be their ultimate goal, to fight for the Emperor in bloody combat. They had been waiting for several days now for the statement that they all knew was coming. When the Emperor issued his declaration, the city exploded into life. In the streets whistles blew as the men were called to muster in the naval facilities. The fleet that waited to carry them was enormous. Enough transports to carry the 500,000 man first wave. The goal was to have 3 million men fighting overseas within a month. The soldiers assembled in the early morning sun. General Josef Tayanovich himself was to be in command of the entire operation. General Tayanovich made his rounds, surveying the Imperial force that stood at attention before him. He gave his order and the soldiers boarded the transports, cheering and singing patriotic songs.

"The Imperial Triumviate has declared support for McQuaide and her operations against the psychotic dictatorship of Generia, and has dispatched the 1st Fleet and four Strategic Strike Wings to attack the Generians from the Aegean Sea.
Praetor Conrad Davidson has already called up the ground forces in preparation for a ground invasion after the beaches are secured."
Meanwhile in McQuaide.
The transports had touched down and the teams personal and supplies were being transported to the zones set aside for the medical stations to be erected. Within 3 hours the main camp was online and transmitting its status to Izistan viva satellite.

Imperial Intelligence had detected a large battlegroup leaving Tyrandis. It could only be assumed that their intentions were hostile. Generian air and naval forces were put on stand by to defend their homeland. The first fleet carrying 500,000 soldiers left Port Belgrade bound for McQuaid, under protection of carriers, destroyers, and AEGIS capable cruisers.
Attacks upon the Weyrean diplomatic mission currently residing within McQuade will be viewed as an act of war. Until then, the Kingdom of Weryr will maintain strict neutrality in relation to this conflict.
Sincerely,
Consul-General J. W. Gibbs

The following is an excerpt from a speech President J.L. delivered to Parliament:
"This nation will keep its commitments from Generia to Grenval to every other friendly nation on this earth. Generic empire and Grenval have proven to be staunch allies and loyal friends in the past, offering their indefatigable (sp?) support in times of peace as well as in times of crisis. We will return their kindness, and express our good will, by aiding them in their time of need. Through thick and thin, we will assist them. The friendship we have forged is one that no arsennel can put a dent in, that even the mightiest army cannot obliterate. So long as we have the power, we will join in common cause and help those whom we call our friends. That is why I have asked you, my friends in Parliament...to issue a declaration of war against the nation of McQuaide."
For two hours, Parliament debated the President's proposal. Two hours later, they voted unanimously in support of President J.L.'s decision.
Kahta is openly decelaring its neutrality in this conflict, however, we will be taking steps to prevent our shipping from being attacked by the forces of either side. We will instruct any merchants to continue all shipping to both of your countries.

For two hours, Parliament debated the President's proposal. Two hours later, they voted unanimously in support of President J.L.'s decision.
President Mike Sarzo couldn't believe what he was seeing. Both Roach-Busters, a country that was supporting Sarzonia in its war against Cam III and Grenval, a staunch ally of Roach-Busters, entered the war between the Generic Empire and McQuaide against McQuaide.
The difficult situation that Praetonia found itself in, watching two of her allies engage each other, was now coming to pass for Sarzonia. And Sarzo hated every minute of it.
Sarzo picked up the phone. He tried to call President J.L. but the phone rang. And rang.
Finally, Sarzo could wait no longer. He slammed the phone down on its holder and called Generia.

Sarzo originally was going to type "force," but he hoped the country attacking wasn't going to be Roach-Busters. The last thing he wanted was to find Sarzonia at odds with a loyal friend.
He decided to try to call J.L. one last time. He picked up the phone.

You're welcome. Bye-bye." He hung up. Then he called up the Department of War. "There is to be no deployment of troops to McQuaide as long as Sarzonians are present. We will respect Mr. Sarzo's requests, seeing as that he is not merely a staunch ally, but a close and loyal friend. I repeat: no troops are to be deployed, and no attacks are to be made against McQuaide as long as there are Sarzonians present in that country. Thank you."

The Republic of Octovonia chooses no sides in this conflict. In the past we have supported McQuaide in its fight against Azeri terror and have been allies with Generia's staunch allies Grenval and Roach-Busters. We choose peace and neutrality than choosing a side in this conflict. We are removing both our diplomatic personnel and nationals from participating combat countries. The nation of Octovonia, once again shall not participate in said conflict unless we find ourselves sufficiently threatened by either side.

If it is possible, the aid should be used to help rebuild the damaged Azeri cities. The Azeri government, if it is still in existence, could also use the money to reestablish itself in the nation. If the government is in shambles, the money could be used to establish a new, more stable one.

Northern Black Sea
The McQuaide fleet, all four carriers, two amphibious groups, two surface action groups, four missile boat squadrons, eight attack submarines, and nearly two dozen support vessels sailed for the northern Black Sea, where they would have the flank of any attacking fleet. Their own AWACs and fighter screens were supported by a fighter wing of MT-90 unmanned fighters, as well as coastal patrol aircraft laying out an active sonobouy line to protect the fleet from submarine attack.

21-07-2004, 20:16
Minister of State Nikolai Sweeny, deceased Prime Minister Daniel Sweeny’s nephew, was the closest thing the bachelor had to a son, and indeed shared many of the leader’s features and behaviors. As he sat at the negotiating table, he offered a curt smile and a nod to the Generian Emperor, then the mediators. His almost cordial attitude was a stark contrast to his first lieutenant in the negotiations, Minister of Defense Irina Solomonov. A hard and cold woman even on a good day, she seemed to have gone through some sort of permanent change after the attacks on Tbilisi and the threats of invasion by the Generic Empire. She had said publicly at one point during the crisis that she hoped they would come so she could “kill them all with my bare hands.” There were rumors around the Ministry of Defense that she had been present at the ‘interrogation’ of the captured terrorist from the first Tbilisi attack. There were other rumors that she was more than merely present.
The atmosphere of the room was tense—Here were two nations of considerable if not exactly gigantic size, on the brink of a war that threatened to draw in nearly a dozen other states. Minister Sweeny saw this, and saw that the Emperor of the Generians would be hard pressed to make a first move that would result in positive movement—it would be seen as losing face. So Sweeny made a generous first move.
Without fanfare, without many of the formalities of such negotiations, Sweeny said simply,
“The Commonwealth of McQuaide is prepared to leave Azerbaijan within one month. A provisional government is already being established. We will accelerate our timeline for the full withdrawl of the McQuaide 11th, 12th, 15th and 16th Motor Rifle Divisions immediately, along with all other combatant support units, within 30 days. We will leave behind the 3rd Reserve Military Police Brigade, 82nd Expeditionary Medical Support Brigade, and 3rd Reserve Engineering Support Brigade at the request of the Azeri government, to operate under Azeri command for a further 60 days to allow for the continued security of the Azeri people, and the continued improvement of Azeri infrastructure.”
By opening the dialogue, Sweeny hoped that the Emperor would be able to see the concession being made, and act in kind. In such a way, the smaller issues would lead to greater issues in a positive manner.

Emperor Kreschnev sat across from the Minister of State, decked out in ceremonial robes, a stark contrast to the business formality of the opposing delegation. He listened to Sweeny's offer. When the man had finished Kreschnev sat in silence, chewing the idea over. He leaned over and whispered something to General Tayanovich. Tayanovich spoke:
"The Emperor will accept this offer, however, he wishes Generia to have political advisors present in Azerbaijan throughout the entire period of the military withdrawal and interim government. He also wishes to deploy a small military contingent to the nation to ensure security."

Nikolai Sweeny watched the Emperor's reaction. It was an aggressive counter in a negotiation like this. A more conventional return would have been to simply accept the concession and make a concession of his own in return. This was hardball, and without a clever reply could signal a quick end to the negotiations. The military troops would be unacceptable--The citizens of Tbilisi had seen what proximity of Generians could mean. Even more important to Sweeny, though, was the implication to the negotiations.
"The Commonwealth is reluctant to accept a demand of both military forces in the area *and* a political team. Although escorted political advisors might be acceptable, the Commonwealth would consider the presence of military forces in such proximity to the McQuaide border to be inflamatory to the situation. McQuaide guarantees the safety and security of the Azerbaijani people under its care, and has maintained sufficient security forces in the area since our intervention there."
Sweeny's word choice was astute. Nothing was absolute. They were *reluctant*, not dead set. He simply needed to hear something come back in return, or for the Generian Emperor to back down from part of his demand.

The Emperor also demands that a Generian Intelligence force be present, simply to monitor the situation. They will be withdrawn when the McQuaid forces leave, and the new government is on its feet."

The diplomatic negotiations are very fragile. They could easily collapse and plummet us back into war. If you are willing, Generia would like you and the rest of our allies to maintain their forces in Generia, until a permanent agreement is reached.

Another aggressive move. Sweeny was becomming frustrated, although he succeeded almost completely in supressing the reaction. The one sign was that his jaw clenched as he stared across the table.
Defense Minister Irina Solomonov seemed to sense his frustration, and leaned over to whisper into his ear. Sweeny turned and whispered back. They both spoke a particular South Ossetian dialect that even their translators would have had trouble understanding had they heard.
"The Commonwealth of McQuaide will allow up to 250 Generian political observers, and up to 250 soldiers to act as body guards. These observers and soldiers will be accompanied by McQuaide Homeland Security agents, to further ensure their safety in Azerbaijan. Up to 25 of these observers may be from the Generian Intelligence organs. However, if any of your representatives, observer or soldier, are caught engaging in acts of espionage or other crimes against the McQuaide or Azeri peoples, they will be arrested and tried publicly pursuant with our laws."
Sweeny had given pleanty so far in this dialogue, and didn't see the stipulations to be far out of line.

The Emperor thought about the Minister's offer. It was not a bad deal. But should he be worried. Was it a diplomatic trap? No, no it could not be. As much as Emperor Kreschnev detested the Minister of State and the rest of the McQuaides, he had some respect for them, that kept his paranoia from getting the best of him. He would accept, but not entirely. He could not risk losing face when he had the upper hand. For the first time during the discussion the Emperor himself spoke. He speech was in flowing English, with a thick Middle Eastern accent, and he gestured often with his bejeweled hands.
"Generia will accept. However, any personnel who are taken into McQuaide custody must be immediately returned to the Empire. If members of the Generian government, be they diplomats, soldiers, or spies are withheld, and not allowed to return to our lands, we will see this as a hostile action. I believe I am being reasonable in this discussion so far, but I will under no circumstances allow a Generian to be tried by a McQuaide jury. When the respective man is returned to our lands, we will try him in our courts, publically."
The Emperor leaned back in his chair and awaited the McQuaide response, a serene look on his regal face.

It was indeed a reasonable demand, one that Nikolai was prepared to answer.
"Immediate extradition to Generian Courts for public trial will be acceptable. Emperor Kreschnev, unless the Generic Empire has any further concerns, I believe that our two nations have come to an agreement regarding this issue."
He paused for a moment to indicate a transition in the conversation, then continued.
"As the Commonwealth of McQuaide selected the first issue of this negotition, we would at this time desire to provide the Generic Empire the opportunity to select the next item for discussion."

Minister of State Nikolai Sweeny nodded to Irina Solomonov. It was all he could do to keep himself from smiling at the Generian Emperor’s demands. This time the Generians had been too rash and aggressive in their demands, opening the door wide for the McQuaide delegation to nail the Generians to the wall. McQuaide had expected such a move on the part of the Generians, and had come prepared.
Solomonov stood, and motioned for a line of aides to come forward. Two aides began handing out professional looking folders to each of the Generian delegates, while one set a digital audio player on the table and another set a stainless steel box next to it. When they were finished, Solomonov spoke. Her voice was soft yet assertive, as if she would have made as excellent an actor or singer as she would advisor to the Prime Minister.
“Ladies and Gentlemen of the Generian delegation, my name is Irina Solomonov, and my title is Minister of Defense of the Commonwealth of McQuaide. I have been asked by the Minister of State to speak today because of my role as the head of the McQuaide intelligence agencies that investigated the terrorist attacks against the McQuaide city of Tbilisi.”
“Let us start with what we know the Generians are not involved in. After investigating the rocket attack against the city on the Remembrance Day procession, we determined that the Generian government was not involved. Pages one through ten are the transcription of an Azeri terrorist caught in the act on that day, indicating in exacting detail that the attack was exclusively an Azeri affair. However, we have determined this attack to be the inspiration for Generian involvement. Immediately after the attack, our signals intelligence division noted a 33% increase in Generian Intelligence traffic worldwide. Pages eleven and twelve outline those findings.”
“Of particular note, however, was the fact that the Generians landed at least one agent in the Azeri Northwest after the attack. This is proven by the following transmission picket up by a Commonwealth RC-135 Rivet Joint Electronic Intelligence aircraft over Azerbaijan:”
And as she pressed play on the digital player, the McQuaide Minister Defense did the unthinkable—she revealed to her enemy that the McQuaide intelligence agencies had succeeded in complete decryption of the Generian Intelligence crypt. The tape was of nearly flawless quality, after having been run through a series of cleaners. What was left was the voice of the Generian intelligence agent and the head of the Generian Intelligence Agency, talking about the deployment of a nuclear weapon.
“Finally, we have this piece of evidence.”
Solomonov opened the steel box and removed a shard of metal with a layering of melted plastic on one side. She set the metal on the table and resumed speaking.
“This is a piece of the actual bomb used in the nuclear attack against the city of Tbilisi. Although it is widely known that bomb fragments often survive atomic blasts, it is uncharacteristic to find shards this large. It is believed that this particular piece of metal is the result of the same structural failure which caused an unconformity of the blast. On the metal, you will note melted plastic and silver. Our forensics specialists matched one particular bit of plastic and silver to a Generian-made 555 timer chip, probably used in the fuzing circuit of the weapon. This chip is made by the Generian Defense Department, and only by them. It was probably believed that any such evidence would be destroyed by the blast. However, this is obviously not the case.”
At this point Sweeny set his hand gently on the arm of his standing partner, indicating for her to stop. He then began to speak in her stead.
“As you can see, Emperor, the Commonwealth has more than sufficient evidence to believe that the Generic Empire was directly responsible for the nuclear attack against an unarmed and open city. At this time, the Commonwealth of McQuaide would like to request that the Generic Empire retract their demands of apology, and instead issue an admission of guilt of their own.”

Ivan Cac remained comfortably reclined in his chair to the left of the Emperor, with the same indifferent expression on his face throughout the presentation. He was impressed. McQuaide intelligence was not the joke he had believed it to be. They had managed to break the Generian encryption, at least. He regretted the fact that he had not used the one-time pad cypher, like his instinct told him. Emperor Kreschnev thought about what had just happened. Things had escalated quickly. Soon he would have to play his ace. For now he could stall. He spoke again with his smooth, accented voice:
"Do you know the name of the agent that you claim was dropped off in Azerbaijan? I am sure Mr. Cac would quite like to know who this rogue is."

"Mr. Sweeny, I am more than willing to walk away from this table, if you continue to belittle me and my government. I remind you that we have over ten different nations who, if they do not already have troops ready to fight a war with you, will do so the moment I tell them to. GII News Update
Earlier today, General Josef Tayanovich, Imperial Minister of Defense, made a public statement announcing Emperor Kreschnev’s intention to take control of the volatile region of Azerbaijan. It is a widely held, but unverified belief that the emperor himself is of Azeri birth. This comes on the heels of the escalating situation between the Generic Empire, and the commonwealth of McQuaide. Tayanovich told reporters that Generia has had unofficial control of Azerbaijan for some time, and that he believes the Azeri people will welcome our soldiers with open arms. This has been a GII news update.
--00—
Generian Mi-24s flew in low over the lesser Caucasus, towards the city of Genca. Captain Cestmir Pavlovsky gripped his AKM more tightly as he felt them nearing their objective. He looked at the other seven men in the helicopter. They would fight well in this first blow against McQuaide, he knew they would. The pilot yelled back to them:
“ETA five minutes to Genca military airfield.”
Cestmir pulled himself to a more upright position and addressed his men:
“Alright, remember the briefing. Keep this fast and professional. We want the airbase secure as quickly as possible. Keep a cool head, keep your eyes open, and check your corners. We’ll do fine.
An Azeri guard stood outside the headquarter of Genca military airfield, about two miles outside the city of Genka itself. He puffed on a cigarette as he fondled the AKM in his hands. He heard a light rumbling in the distance. Slowly it began to increase.
‘Odd,’ he thought, ‘wasn’t supposed to be anyone coming in today.’
He walked towards the runway, confused. Suddenly a fleet of Mi-24 helicopters crested the ridge before him. A look of fear crossed his face. He dropped his cigarette and rifle, and sprinted headlong towards the command building.
The Mi-24 touched down outside of a large structure on the airbase. Captain Pavlovsky jumped out with his men. All across the base, other helicopters were doing the same. Soldiers flooded out onto the runways, and into buildings, dragging sleepy looking Azeris out into the daylight. Pavlovsky and his men ran towards the headquarter building. Pavlovsky kicked in the door, and gunned down the soldier cowering inside. He led his team to an office in the back of the wooden structure. The man indside was waiting with a pistol drawn. He shot one of Pavlovsky’s men in the chest. Pavlovsky retaliated, shooting the arm holding the weapon. The Captain approached the wounded man.
“Are you in charge here?” he asked.
The man did not answer.
“I said are you in charge here, old man!?”
“Yes,” replied the man through gritted teeth.
Pavlovsky drew the Desert Eagle from its holster and shot the man in the head. He turned to one of his men.
“Get on the radio, and tell General Mostovitch we have secured the airfield.”
The man ran off to do as he was told. Pavlovski stepped outside, observing the line of ragged prisoners that his men had taken. He addressed the in Russian.
“You are now under control of the Generian Imperial government. You will not be harmed, and will be treated according to the Geneva Convention. However, you have choices in the matter. If you choose to slip up, you will be shot. If you choose to rebel, you will be shot. If you choose to defy me, or my men in any ways, you will be shot. He turned to the soldier on his left.
“Lietenant, set up a holding facility for these men. They will remain here until they can be deported to Generia.
The soldier who Pavlovsky had sent to radio the General returned. He quickly saluted Pavlovsky and spoke:
“The General sends his compliments. The army is on the move, and will be here today.”

OOC: I realize the thread is temporarily on hold, I just wanted it noted by McQuade and others that I am not involved in the Azerbaijan issue. However, I am providing defensive backup to GE and will attack anyone who tries to attack GE. My fleet in the Black sea and my aircraft at GE's base are on full alert to repel an attack on GE, not to assist in the Azerbaijan conquest. See my posts regarding this issue and my military strengths in the area at http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=341199 the Generia call for support thread.
Is your plan to take out Azerbaijan and then if so, wage war on McQuaid? If not, what is your plan? I understand the thread is on hold!!!!

We find no fault with your plans and as such grant you permission to use our land for the liberation of Azerbaijan. However, should the assurances that you gave us prove to be false, we reserve the right to close our borders and prevent any future military re-enforcements.

OOC: I understand the whole GE/MQ conflict is on hold, i would just like to reinforce my military units present in the situation.
IC: A full list of my military might can be found at(actually its still incomplete):
www.akitaryuvius.bravehost.com
This also includes a indepth look at all the branches of my government, the economy, geograhic size, etc...
In addition to the original forces posted, a large portion of the Air Force's Medical Units(mainly C-7s, C-135s) has been diverted to GE to set up CaseVacs in random locations in Azerbaijian(and if nessescary in the future in Mquade) in clear enough spots to take off and land to provide medical aid to troops in combat.
Also nearly 50,000 marines can be flown in at the spur of the moment, only 3,000 will be there now to secure Azerbaijian, and when secure, 7,000 more will be transported there to secure the border and dig trenches along it. (OOC: later in the RP Bravo-Team Spec Ops will be used inside the country)
I am sending in 2000 more Marines and 800 of the ARMY regulars posted in Generia. 15 heavy armoured APC's, 30 flat bed trucks, 20 M25-A5 Hulks, 10 MH-60 Black Hawk's, 80 soldiers from Alpha unit, and 32 Navy SHARKs via Series Z-2 Warthogs (8 of them). ALL of these troops will be deployed to Azerbaijan.

Me too. I say we commit some attrocities and get some poeple angry, then fight them to the death. If this situation in Cherry Ridge blows up, you should join the coalition against the fanatics.
Tell me more about this. What is the situation in Cherry Ridge? Get what people to fight? Fanatics?

Is this thread off hold or what? Because my troops might be needed elsewhere soon.

Because this thread has been on hold so long, i am forced to withdraw my troops as they are needed elsewhere. I advise the other nations to do likewise as it is pointless to keep a dead thread running.
Uchido is also going to withdrawal all military personnel from the Generia-McQuaid conflict. The soldiers are needed elsewhere.
