This program has been officially scrapped.
------------------------------------------------------

In addition to the new High Guard, Weyr will also be reorganizing the Coast Guard, which provides search and rescue operations as well as defense for up to 50 kilometers from Weyrean shores.

The new subsection will be known as the Coast Guard, and will be similar in concept to the High Guard. It will carry no force projection capabilities, and its operations will be generally restricted to Weyrean waters.

The cost for the new ships is included in the $800billion overall upgrade package of the armed forces. Additional funding is to be provided through the sale of old equipment, much of which ahs already been sold to private companies.

The time fort he project to be completed is approximately fifteen years.
