Breaking news:

We interupt our broadcast of the national assembly of mineworkers Kommisars to broadcast this emergency bulletin.

Following weeks of internal wrangling in the Politburo, the Revolutionary Army has arrested all members of the cabinet in order to restore full control of the country to the Party.

Chairman Wahler was arrested at his home in the capital Korova in the early hours of the morning and transferred to a Revolutionary Army base at an undisclosed location.

Foreign minister Molotov has been appointed temporary vice-chairman of the Party and the chairman's position has been taken by Chief of Staffs, General Morosov, who will address the nation later this evening.

The Revolutionary Army has declared a curfew between the hours of 10pm and 8am, and any citizen outside their residence at this hour shall be arrested immediately.

The Revolutionary Army will now patrol the streets until such times as the nation's leadership deem it necessary. They shall be assisted in their duties by both StatPol and forces of the State Security Servis (StatSec)

All building Kommissars will record a register at 10.15pm and 7.45am and will report those missing to the Internal Security Agency.

All StatPol officers will report immediately to their station. All StatPol leave is cancelled and all officers are on 24-hour call.

"People of Lasatania. Members of the Party. We call on you to remain calm. We are now at the threshold of a new age for our great nation and we must be strong. For enemies within our own great Party had plotted to bring down the Party itself and install a so-called 'democratic'government. I say that this ideal was merely a ploy to bring about a capitalist revolt through the back door. We must not forget what happened in Europe, we must remind ourselves of the sad state our former Socialist brothers now find themselves in...

I hereby declare that the creation of a new position within the Party. The position of Marshal of the State, which I will assume with immediate effect. The position of Chairman of the Party shall be integrated into this position.

The former Chairman of the Party, Chairman Draxel Wahler, shall face a trial for failing to protect the Revolution and this shall take place next week at the Supreme Revolutionary Court in Korova.

I call all on all citizens of our great nation to give all they can to the effort to bring stability back to our country and to ensure that the Revolution can proceed without hinderance. We shall overcome all resistance to the Revolution. Final victory shall be ours!

Terror cell arrested

StatPol forces, supported by soldiers from the 3rd Red Brigade, yesterday arrested 20 members of a suspected terrorist cell in the capital, Korova.

Marshal of the State, Komrade Morosov, ordered the immediate execution of the traitors, which was duly carried out by Military Police in the People's Square at 7pm last night.

Komrade Morosov warned that any further examples of subversion against the will of the Party and the people would be dealt with in a similar manner.

The Confederacy of Mattikistan condemns this action, and does not recognise the new government. All trade with Lasatania has been halted pending a review by the Prime Minister, the Director of Confederacy Intelligence and the Minister for Defence.

Overseas Volunteer Force


OVF/RRF Corps - 50,000 troops approx.


The OVF is essentially a front for Lasatania's overseas excursions. Units are formed on an ad-hoc basis and are renamed for this purpose. Aside from being a cover, a core of around 50,000 troops is retained in the OVF, specifically for use as a rapid reaction force - the OVF/RRF. The OVF/RRF is comprised of full-time soldiers who volunteer to spread the message of Revolutionary Socialism overseas. They are very much an elite unit on par with other elite forces around the world and are capable of holding their own against far larger numbers. Additionally, the OVF/RRF are the First In, First Out troops of the Lasatanian armed forces, both in the role of shock troops and also for activity behind enemy lines. Working in close co-operation with LasIntel, the OVF/RRF is also responsible for CoIntel and espionage during times of peace.

People's Defence Force


Ten percent of the Lasatanian population of adult age is trained for the defence of their building/factory/local area. Command of PDF units is undertaken by local Party Komissars. Equipment available to units is generally defensive and includes sub-machine guns, rifles, machine gun emplacements, molotov cocktails, grenades and anti-tank missiles. Full mobilisation rarely takes place and the PDF is only activated if a state of war is declared. PDF command in each town is responsible for the formation of defensive structures and minefields during a time of war. City air defences also fall under the remit of the PDF.

"The NeoSuunist Prosperity Sphere of Marimaia would like to suggest that all nations refrain from military action against Lasatania while they are momentarily unstable. If they are still 'communist' after stabilising, then go ahead and try them, but kicking them while they are down only shows your inferiority, as you obviously cannot match them when they are at full strength.

The Prosperity Sphere would like to acknowledge General Morosov as the new leader of Lasatania. We are sure that his leadership will be just what Lasatania requires right now. We see a great deal of potential in Lasatania, which is why they are not classed as an inferior nation by our government; should General Morosov require Marimaian assistance, we shall do what we can."

Sat in his office, Marshal of the State Morosov pored over the day's papers. Things seemed to be going well. The takeover of power had gone relatively smoothly and external interference had been minimal to say the least. He took a sip of his whisky and remembered he had to send a message to Marimaia and thank them for their support. But first, there was the matter of the former party chairman, Komrade Wahler..

what should we do, he mused, a show trial would provide the ideal opportunity to seal the army's hold on the nation. However, it risked sparking an uprising among those loyal to the former chairman... If only there could be some way of removing this problem without getting any blood on our hands...

Jonothanas Defence Minister listened to the recording from the bug in Morosov's office. He paused the recording, and paused to think. "Lasitania probably doesn't have all those planes ready...no. They will, and we need to make sure they don't attack us." He had pulled out most of the forces from around Lasitania, but a few Spec-ops and swpies still remained. He activated his intercom. "Robert, put me through to MI6"
"Yes sir." "Hello Mr Taylor, what is it?" "Send two spec-ops and 2 spy units into Lasitania from division 5. Their mission is to find former party chairman, Komrade Wahler and snipe him down. Issue them immunity cards with code 334267. That will be all."

He then had the task of coordinating all this. It would be too risky to put them in without the government at least knowing, and when they claimed reponsibility for the assasination then Lasitania they would never beleive them. He telegrammed the Lasitanian leader:

" We have called off our armed forces and no longer wish to attack you. If you find anybody who has an immunity card with code 334267 DO NOT arrest them, release them immedietly. You will not regret it."

A few hours later, he was in his office again when he received a call.
"Hello, sir. We have the unit on the line, would you like to speak to them?
"Yes"
"Ok, here they are"
"Ok, your mission has been explained to you. What are you going to do?"
"Well, sir we will bring in standard weaponary and 4 Accuracy International snipers. The main body of us go in by plane to the nearest airport to the border, but four Spec Ops people come with two armoured cars, 2 snipers each and all our guns. They have sought out a 2 man customs stations. They snipe them with tranquilisers, and the cars go in unnopposed. When we get there, a small defunct revoulutionary terror group has aggreed to aid us, for
$700,000. They have partial information on his whereabouts, we have to fill in the gaps. He is going to be at a small anti - government gathering in the evening all this week. We will get him when he comes out. There are 4 points of attack, all will be occupied. There is a main one, on to of a building right opposite the door he will come out of. We will close the road behind the building to allow the sniper to slide down a rope, then escape. All other snipers will be alerted and after all confirming he is dead (we plan for a high power headshot - usually blows most of the head off!) we all meet then leave via private jet - the terrorists will sort out all lose ends."
"Good. You realise you have to get this absoulutly right. DO NOT kill anyone other than him unless they are an immediete threat to your operation. Government officals may not be killed at all unless they have the absoulute intent to kill you. Good luck, may you all return safe"

And with that he left. He would send a telegram to alert the leader seconds before he was assasinated. "I just hope they get it right" he thought.

The Government of Wazistan condemn the move, and refused to reconize the new government. However, Wazistan has no plans of sending troops in.

Firstly, we thank you for averting your somewhat misguided attack. As for the readiness of our air forces, you are correct in assuming that not every plane would be airborne, though at any one time there are usually up to six squadrons on active patrol sorties. In addition, Long Range Aviation always has two squadrons of bombers on 30 min standby in case a rapid strike response is required.


We hope that this shall be the last time that either of our nations faces the risk of military action against one another.

The team was in, and waiting for Wahler to enter the gathering. The radio crackled into life: "Caling team A. Wahler's car has passed our position."
This meant he was 100 metres away. A few seconds later he past. The main sniper made sure everyone knew this, then they all went to their positions.

Sniper one was on a tall building behind a smaller building, a blank-firing sniper rifle had been put there to divert attention. After shooting he would run to the back of the building, where the road was closed, slide down a rope, and escape by a pickup truck.

Sniper two was in the building to the left of one. If one had any problem, he would take over. His escape was the lift which was on constant call or the emergency staircase.

Sniper three was in a building to the far right of one. His job was to take the target out if he came out the side entrance, or cover for two. His escape was an emergency escape staircase at the back of the building.

Four was in a helicopter which would cover for anyone if they failed.

"Ok everyone, rifles ready?"
"Yes" they replied
"Ok, it's 7 now, he should be out by half-past"

Half an hour later the meeting had ended

"Ok! I see him! All snipers ready!"
Four had seen him through a window.

One was ready, waiting for the target to come out. It was only about 10 seconds, but he had managed to make it something close to 10 minutes.

"Target is out of the building"

One aimed. He had a perfect headshot. He pulled the trigger. "BANG." The top of the targets head ripped off. He collapsed.
"Ok, we got him!" yelled four over the radio "GO GO GO"
One ran over the building and attached himself to the rope. He jumped down.
Two went down the lift, and three ran down the stairs. One detached himself
and jumped into the pickup, which drove off, 2 and 3 jumped into their cars and also drove off. They met up at a house of one of the terrorists.
"Ok we're all fine?"
They all said yes.
"Ok, the airstrip's an hour away. Time to go."

A Kommissar bursts into the auditorium a piece of paper held aloft, he shouts down Allyet..

"Silence!! This lecture is adjourned as of this instance. You, lecturer! sit with the students. For I have an important announcement to make.."

Allyet sits down in the front row next to the students, meekly looking towards the Kommissar.

The Kommissar scanned the room, ensuring every student had their attention focused on him..

"Good, I will begin. I am Kommissar Toykaven, University Kommissar for StatSec. I bring grave news. At 7.30pm, former chairman of the People's Revolutionary Party, Komrade Wahler, was assassinated during the inauguration of the new water treatment office in Neirstein. Marshal of the State Morosov has declared a state of emergency. As of this moment, every citizen of our great nation must provide a detailed account of their movements for the past 12 hours. Any individual failing to do so shall be immediately placed into the custody of StatSec, where they shall receive full interrogation. Any individual failing to comply with order made by the Marshal of the State shall face summary execution. All enemies of the Party shall be eradicated. We shall destory those who seek to destroy us. You are all dismissed and I advise you in the strongest possible sense to report immediately to your local Kommissar for questioning."

Two hundred ashen faces stared back at him..

"Move! If you don't do so immediatley I will take swift action.."

Slowly they rose, shuffling towards the exit. As they neared the front exit of the building they could already hear the helicopters flying overhead. Military trucks sped along the road, troops sat bolt upright in the back..


In his office, General Morosov smiled to himself..

Well, it would seem that someone has done us a favour, he mused, now for the end game...


"CLERK! Get me the Foreign Minister! NOW!!"

Five minutes later, Molotov entered the room..

"Ah, General.. I see we have managed to pull the thorn from our side..."

"Yes indeed", replied the general, "now we must find someone to blame... I suppose we could always accuse the Jonathanans for this 'crime'.. he he he.."

"Indeed, General..."

"And now, I suppose we must... 'punish' them??"

"Yes, but how.. for they may have done us a great favour.. but we must show the people our resolve..."

"Hmm... have the Navy dispatch the Expeditionary Fleet towards their waters... On exercise though, not on alert! Have our TV crews film the departure of the fleet and tell LasComm to produce a news report of this.. We must convince our people of the 'deadly external threat' to Revolutionary Socialism..'.."

"I will call on the Minister of the Interior, Kruschenev, immediately.."

"Good... now what to do with those 'terrorists' in our nation..'

"That is a different matter all together... I suppose we could find some scapegoats of our own.."

"Very good... have InterLas and StatSec draw up some candidates and we'll take it from there.."

"Very well Sir, I shall begin right away..."

The unit's cars sped down the road to the airstrip.
"Quick! We gotta move fast! That jet may have military capabilities, but they've sent up helicopters and are at a state of emergency dammit!"

They arrived at the airstrip and were greeted by two terrorists..and 3 high ranking government officials.
"Erm, hi. I suppose you know what this means?"
He pulled out his immunity card,
"Yes. But we dont need that, we know who you are, and as a favour, in thanks of your actions, we have come here to give you this map. Follow it and you wont get hurt. It's to make sure we don't go shooting down government officials. But we dont think they'll mind..."
"Thanks"
They took off. Within 5 minutes they could see the border.
"Wait a sec! Isn't that...a SAM launcher?"
"I'll just check."
The pilot checked his radar.
"Yes, yes it is. But, I insist we stay on the route given to us."
"Ok, but get ready to deploy countermesures and arm the miniguns"

They passed over the border.
"Andy, check that SAM launcher."
"Ok. Yes, it's fine. We are sa...DAMMIT"
"Minigunners, standby! Deploying countermesures"
"I've identifyed the missile. It's got five minutes worth of fuel. However, it will catch us in 3"
"Ok, I've put us up to emergency throttle"
"4 minutes 15"
"I've gotta mix it up for 45 seconds. Right. Adam, Ryan, ready with the guns."

The missile caught up with them in 2 minutes.

"Ok, it will follow us while gaining on us. Unless we get it or it takes the countermesures."

Flares we constantly being fired from the wind and metal strips were flying out of the back but it was no good. The only way was the minigunners.

"I got it!" yelled one of the gunners.
"But it's only partial"
"Cary on then. How longer now Andy"
"Well there's 1 and a half minutes left of fuel, but Ryan got the propultian which means it will hit us in...1 minute 15 to one forty-five."
"Yes!"

"Ok, its got 15 minutes left. DAMN! It's an updated version. Its got end - of
- fuel thrust. 10 seconds!"
"Ok hold on. I'm diving!"
He put the plane into a sharp dive.
"Ok. Begin to level out and veer right sharply."
"What!"
"Just do it!"
The plane leveled out and headed right. The missile shot past them then spun out of control. They were safe, and on they're way to Tizerland, a colony.

"We're safe!

In his office, General Morosov looked at the reports.. it had appeared to work.. the thorn in the side was gone and the people were now in a state of fear.. He called the clerk into the room..

"Get me Molotov.."

"Sir.."

Half an hour later, the Foreign Minister entered the room..

"Ah, Komrade, you called me.."

"Yes.. It seems all went to plan.. though I must question your reasoning in not having our men take control of the air defences in the sector.."

"Sir, it was in order not to spark too much interference from the air force.. they are still a little loyal to the old rulers.."

"I see.. Now what about Jonothana, I mean, we can easily blame the killing on an internal threat - I take it the arrests are proceeding as planned - but we must make some overtures towards them.."

"Indeed sir.."

"Good. Send them a message via diplomatic channels.. We should send a delegation to offer something in return for their services.."

"Sir.. may I suggest a secret treaty of military assistance.."

"Hmmm.. but we could end up dragged into all kinds of wars.."

"Not if we make it a defensive treaty.."

"Go on.."

"Well, we are in quite a strong position now.. we have three fleets, two of which can be used for overseas ventures and our airforce is quite considerable, despite the age of some of our aircraft.. I would suggest that we offer them a treaty of assistance, offering our support to them should they be attacked by any nation for any fault not of their own.."

"I think that would be quite a good idea.."

"We could also start formal diplomatic relations, perhaps by allowing them to set up a consulate?"

"Well... not right now.. I don't think their staff would look to kindly on our methods for securing power..."

"Quite.."

"OK.. its resolved.. we'll offer them the treaty and be done with it for now.."

"Sir.. I'll have the legal department draw up a draft immmediately.."

"Very good Molotov, go to work"

Brief of Military Assistance Treaty between Lasatania and Jonothana

Under the terms of this treaty, Lasatania shall endeavour to offer what military assistance it can to assist Jonothana should it face attack from an external agent. This assistance shall only be granted if Jonothana is attacked without provokation and without firing the first shot.

The PM looked at the proposal.
"Hmm. Sounds good. We had it checked by the Foreign Ministry?"
"Yes. So, is it approved?"
"Yes"
"Good."

" Right. How can we celebrate this? Ah! I know, an air show. See if the Lasitanians want one."

Thank you for your offer, however at this moment in time our nation is on a full-scale alert, given incidents elsewhere in the world involving Socialist states. Thus, we are unable to offer any active aircraft for use in your airshow. However, we would be more than willing for some aicraft from the People's Aeronautical Museum to be displayed at the show.

However, as a sign of our appreciation of you r assistance in recent matters, we will use the airshow to unveil the LAS-XF1 prototype, which despite not being produced, highlights the advances being made in aeronautical technology within our country.
