Veritasean Global News Report:

This morning the Veritasean Imperial Navy declassified one of its most secret projects involving a stealth fighter aircraft. The jet has been deployed on several Veritasean aircraft carriers, but has only recently been put into large-scale production. Few people, even within the confines of the military, knew of the existence of the aircraft and the decision to declassify it caught many people off guard. When explaining this decision, Admiral Chase had this to say,

"When any aircraft enters into large-scale production and is deployed on almost every aircraft carrier a nation owns, the effectiveness of secrecy is lost and becomes nearly impossible to maintain anyway..."

Certain specifics regarding the aircraft have also been released to the public, as well as a few pictures of it. Both of these documents can be seen below. Currently the Ministry of the Navy is considering selling the aircraft to a few select nations which Unum Veritas has interacted with in the past.

UV-89 Phoenix
Top Speed: Mach 4 (Supercruise capable)
STOVL and VTOL variants
Carries 4 AAM's on the wings and 2 ground-attack munitions internally when in strike mode
Carries 8 AAM's (4 externally and 4 internally) when in air-to-air mode
Stealth angles reduce radar cross-section
Radar absorbent materials further reduce enemy's ability to detect the craft
One and two-seat variants
Capable of aerial refeuling (gives unlimited attack radius)
Fully integrated weapons system, enhancing missiles' fire-and-forget capability
Onboard computers can track up to 20 targets at once
Enhanced HUD
Variable swept-wing design gives superior maneuverability and conserves storage space onboard carriers

No, the plane actually exists. Part of some upcoming movie I believe...

[OOC- It looks like a prototype stealth fighter I once saw. At Mach 4, that cockpit must make a nice oven. :P
But I assume there's some way to get around that.]

No, actually I routinely like to fry my pilots to keep them in line.... LoL.

does that thing actually fly? are they just not done unfolding the wings yet in the 2nd pic, or is the plane supposed to be assymetrical? :p

[It's folding its wings forward for take-off like F-14s fold them backward. I think this is supposed to be the fabled "Switchblade". UV, do you know what movie this is from?]

OOC: And we come to person #3 using the pics. Although now that I check, I'm person #3, and that was only at the CAP forums.

It's called 'Stealth' and it's coming out next summer.

OOC: The Doujin Intelligence Agency is going to be shooting some Unum Veritasean citizens in Doujin - this thing is for the movie Stealth (I just remembered where I saw that plane before; it was in one of my folders)

Josh Lucas will play the male lead in Columbia Pictures big-budget action film Stealth, being directed by Rob Cohen for a Memorial Day, 2005 release.

The movie is set in the naval Air Force in the near future and tells the story of an artificial intelligence pilot who is brought aboard to learn combat skills from human pilots. When the A.I. pilot begins to have ideas of his own, complications ensue.

Lucas will play Ben Gannon, the senior pilot in the human wing of the naval airforce. Cohen penned a rewrite of the original script by WD Richter. Shooting is scheduled to start January 19 on location in Australia, Thailand, New Zealand and China.

Cohen said the film will feature over 800 visual effects with jets designed with the cooperation of the head designers at Northrop Aviation. Digital Domain, which is currently working on Fox's tentpole The Day After Tomorrow, will tackle the majority of the f/x shots.

Heh, I thought you meant shooting as in...*bang*

Unum Veritas, congratulations. (curses under breath. where'd you get those pictures?) We will be looking to acquire some of these excellent aircraft in the future.

[OOC- At what altitude is that Top Speed? Sea Level?

And if these are going to be available eventually- near-hypersonic stealth VTOL fighters... count me in. For a lot.]

OOC- Doujin, I'm taking it you were planning on using the pics for one of your own planes...sorry, that's just how the espionage business works. Hehehehe

OOC II- That top speed, as with most top speeds, is with no munitions, a very light pilot, after being catapulted off a carrier, with all excess weight stripped off and at, shall we say, a very friendly altitude. Also, obviously the stealthy features aren't going to be as effective if its travelling too fast. The top speed is just to look good on paper, it really doesn't increase its effectiveness very much.

[OOC- Ah. So realistically it still could be expected to go Mach 3, though, right? At those speeds, even if it was magically invisible to radar, it'd show up like a firestorm on IR...]

Well, I was designning a sucessor of my TF-55 with those sets of pics, I myself was searching and stumbled on the movie's inofrmational page, which has many mroe pics than that. I have also seen Hamptonshire's "Raven" has the secound picture, although I myself was planning to use the 1st and 2nd for the informational pics....

That's what I meant by its top speed not adding much to its effectiveness. Its all a balancing act; go too fast and IR kills you, go too slow and you lose surprise/lose too much fuel...you have to strike the happy medium. The only time the top speed is good is if you have to get the hell outta dodge.
