CIN Breaking News: Tensions run high in UEC secesh crisis.....

Hello, I'm Kathren Movan of the Colerica Imperial News network. We come to you with much to discuss today. The contining tensions between the United Empire of Colerica and the illegal, treasonous secessionist farce-nation of the Confederate States of New Colerica have grown to dangerous new heights. With the recent arrival of two divisions of UEC soldiers that were called back from the combat wrap-up in Isla De Plata, a wide-spread fear of civil war continues to hold much of the United Empire's citizens in a constant state of caution. The United Empire has tried to pursue every available option to avoid conflict with its own [rogue] states, but it has been to no avail.

They are mixed, unconfirmed, reports that the Confederate States of New Colerica have begun amassing an army to attack the United Empire. Personally, if such an event happens, I hope with all my heart that the United Empire shows no mercy on these criminal tratiors and wages the war that these secesh anarchists want. More on this later...

OOC: Hmm....I was going to make a new Isla De Plata thread, but I don't have to if you already did.....and the combat there is on the 'final swing,' really. I've laid siege to the dictator's base (where Uraine is hiding at) and a battle is/was raging there all up until we got Jolted....I just wish we could see our previous threads....and what's wrong with your foreign minister, out of curiousity?

I found the thread I made.

OOC: Hehe....New Colerica has existed for a while, but only surfaced recently in time for the RP....Here (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=new_colerica) is the link...(Even though it says that they have a 733 million people and climbing, I've already established that I'd like them only to have around 145 million people....that number will of course grow if more states decide to secede...)

The Confederate States of New Colerica formed itself a few weeks after the four states seceded. They've set up their own government and have elected Ruraq Kylaer, (the leader of the RAFC terrorist group...he's wanted by the UEC with a bounty of $15 billion Colerican credits on his head), as their Principal Director (read: President). The secession has split much of the United Empire's citizens as to where they stand. It has divided households and turned family against one another. Members of the UEC gov't have defected and moved to the CSNC (I sound like an eye chart here with all of these abbreviations:) ). With a population of just over 145 million people, the Confederate States of New Colerica pose a great threat to the stability of the United Empire.

The Emperor of the UEC, Maderic Thra, has declared a list of demands and actions on the CSNC. Observe:

1 -- The writ of Habeas Corpus has been suspended throughout the entire mainland of Colerica. (The outlying islands and the Colonies of Rilos and Wangchop are not affected by this decision.)

2 -- The gov't's of all states that have seceded have been Imperially dismissed. They are no longer valid nor are they recognized by the United Empire.

3 -- The Confederate States of New Colerica is not recognized by the United Empire as a legitimate nation. They do not legally exist, as far as the UEC is concerned.

4 -- Anyone who commits a crime to a Colerican civillian suspected of being a secesh or a secesh sympathizer will be Imperially pardoned.

5 -- The CSNC is turn over all weapons and all members of the terrorist organization, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colerica, that dwell within their borders.

Among a few others. That's pretty much it....brought you up to speed in one post, I hope....

A mere five thousand Zoogiedom forces remain in Isla de Palata, but they are aided, made up of, and backed by our very best. We will be concentrating more on Colerica itself, preparing a total of eighty thousand forces...these are slated to engage in combat.
Colerica

The United Empire of Colerica is making up the bulk of the forces in Isla De Plata, (as we have from the very beggining), but we will soon call back even more of our soldiers once General Tetarinn deems major combat operations are over. The UEC's biggest priorty over there is to capture or kill, preferrebly capture, Mage Uraine. If caught alive, he will be brought to justice. The same justice that he and his father denied to so many for so long.

While we hope that the secessionist crisis will be resolved bloodlessly, we are preparing our forces for the worst. A civil war would devastate the internal infastructure of the United Empire, it would damage our international relations, and could result in the deaths of thousands of people. Thomas Johnathon Jackson said it best, "War is the sum of all evils." We will do everything we can to avoid a civil strife, but we are readying ourselves for combat.

Hello, I'm Kathren Movan of the Colerica Imperial News network. We come to you now with some new developments in the the continuing Secessionist Crisis. The United Empire of Colerica is reporting that it has detained a group of smugglers running illegal firearms across the borders of the United Empire to the 'nation' of the Confederate States of New Colerica. These gun-runners, as they are being called, have been identified as members of the RAFC terrorist group. The security-police in the Colerican state of Belser, (borders Loros to the east), are reporting that they detained over forty of these gun-runners and have transferred them back to the heart of the Empire for further questioning.

Belser, itself, has become a home for many of the secessionists, and the UEC worries that the state may soon decided to secede, as well, and join this New Colerican Confederacy.

Kressi Thra, Magistrate of State, was reached for a breif comment. She said, quote, "We are working with the viceroy of Belser and his government to achieve a common goal -- an end to secession. We've made it very clear to the viceroy of Belser that secession is illegal and he has been in full agreement with us."

In regards to the gun-running bust, Damon Greggors, Magistrate of Justice, was reached for comment. He said, quote, "The state [Belser] did a wonderful, patriotic deed for the UEC by catching these criminals. I will see to it that these [the smugglers] are brought to the justice that they deserve. The United Empire is furious that groups among our own nation are in support of the criminal secessionists."

In related news, reports are coming out that a media outlet has been born from this farce-nation, the CSNC, calling their news agency the New Colerican Freedom Network. CIN, as all Colericans know, is a fair and balanced look at the issues facing the world. We believe this NCFN is nothing but a voice for the hardlining secesh tratiors. We urge all Colerican citizens to not believe any of the lies you may hear that come from this 'news' agency, the New Colerican Freedom Network. They're anti-Colerica and anti-honesty.

More on this as it developes....

12 of the most elite military and intelligence operatives available have been deployed into New Colerica, quietly infiltrating in as many ways as possible. Several are trying to join up with the secessionist forces to ascertain their plans and extract information.

Plans are under way to assasinate influential figures in the movement, however difficult this may be.

Secret-IC statement: The United Empire of Colerica has done similar tactics. However, it has been increasingly hard for the UEC to do such things because the CSNC knows many of the assassins that the United Empire readily uses, thus proving things difficult.

The UEC is considering both. And 'either-or' ultimatum to be delivered to the secessionists. While not drawn up yet, the ultimatum would come down to a choice for the CSNC: Voluntarily disarm and rejoin the United Empire or be forced to disarm and rejoin the United Empire.

Hello, I'm Kathren Movan of the Colerica Imperial News network. As many had predicted and what all feared might happen, the Colerican state of Belser has seceded from the United Empire and joined the four other secesh states in the Confederate States of New Colerica. This farce-nation seeks to bring an end to the United Empire. These criminal secessionists have been rattling their sabers, trying to stir up trouble throughout the UEC.

A current map now shows the latest developments in the Colerican Secession Crisis:

http://img37.exs.cx/img37/7316/colericamap1.jpg

Magistrate of State, Kressi Thra, had this to say. Quote, "The dangers this creates are affecting every Colerican citizen. The secessionists must realize that they are harming, not hurting, their cause with their actions. If the state of Belser seeks to side with this Confederacy, then they shall share in their fate."

Our beloved Emperor, Maderic Thra, is expected to release a statement later today. The focus of the statement will be an ultimatum addressed to the CSNC. We will be sure to continue our fair and balanced coverage of these events....

Hello, I'm Kathren Movan of the Colerica Imperial News network. We now bring you the breaking news that the United Empire of Colerica has issued an official ultimatum to the CSNC, outlining the UEC's stance on the Colerican Secession Crisis.

Kressi Thra, Magistrate of State, said this, quote, "The United Empire of Colerica has issued an ultimatum to the Confederate States of New Colerica. The UEC will allow the needed time for the CSNC to look it over and decide their course of events."

The ultimatum defines the UEC's stance as, quote, "un-moving." The ultimatum states the Confederacy has one month (NS) to disarm its secessionist militias and to voluntarily rejoin the United Empire. The CSNC is also to turn over all members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colerica terrorist group to UEC authorities. If these demands are not met by the deadline, the ultimatum clearly states the United Empire will use all measures of force to bring the Confederacy into compliance and back into the United Empire.

We will, of course, continue to cover this as it developes....

Meanwhile, in Zoogiedom, the gears of war were turning again. As the military entered another transformational phase, foreign import tanks and other vehicles were pouring in...and soldiers were getting ready for war in two separate arenas.

Zoogiedom echoes Colerica's ultimatum and agrees to it, and has outlined and allocated forces ready to respond to the situation. A further 90,000 soldiers are slated, and more may come if it is deemed that an invasion of Lashuga would be unnecessary...a lot more. Fleets and air wings are deploying once more to help our ally crush the rebels...

We ask that Colerica allow Zoogiedom to establish a comprehensive military presence on Isla Larga to secure our supply line and use it as a base of operations...we would, of course, be using it in tandem with the other coalition nations in this effort.

Should the ultimatum be rejected, Belser will be the first to fall...

Cruise missiles are being stockpiled and shipped to strategic locations in the Isles as we speak. Squadrons of AC-240 aircraft are ready to unleash a fiery barrage of strikes at a moment's notice to cripple the insurgency's military logistics.
Colerica
22-07-2004, 22:29
The United Empire of Colerica grants our ally, Zoogiedom, the full right to use Isla Larga as a staging ground for their military. We feel that if more military presence is around the Confederates, they may be more inclined to comply with the ulitmatum and this will end bloodlessly....

We do fear that more states may secede. Should this happen, we may simply forget the ultimatum all-together and decide the fate of Colerica on the battlefield with these rogue rebels. We face a problem, however, among our military ranks. The military has been split. Several of our best officers and generals have decided that they cannot fight against their home states and have eiither deserted or joined the Confederacy's military. Our navy is strongly with the United Empire, however, with only a small percentage of the naval forces siding with the Confederates. The UEC's super battlesship, Tyrant, is fully armed and operational, should it be needed....

Our biggest fear would be that the Colerican Colony of Rilos secedes. This would be devasting as it would split the United Empire's population in half. Rilos has almost as many people as the United Empire's main islands and, if they seceded, would prove the biggest problem of all. However, we have a firm faith in the installed leadership of Rilos that they will not subvert the Emperor and asbcond their position in the United Empire.

It appears that Tomzilla is correct and that the Confederates are not responding to the ultimatum. However, we will follow as the ultimatum stated and give them the time they need to make their decision. Remember, secessionist tratiors, the time is ticking. The deadline ends in less than one month (NS).

Hello, I'm Kathren Movan of the Colerica Imperial News network. We come to you now, live, with breaking developements in the Colerican Secession Crisis. CIN is recieving word that two new states, Kardu and Jicarr, have signed declarations of secessesion and have joined the Confederate States of New Colerica.

At present, a map of the United Empire shows the latest developements:

http://img11.exs.cx/img11/7316/colericamap1.jpg

This raises the total number of seceded states to seven. These rebellious tratiors must be put down immediatly. The United Empire cannot allow this to continue.

Kressi Thra, Magistrate of State, released a statement. Quote, "The United Empire is planning on staying on the course it laid down with the ultimatum. If the United Empire's demands are not met and the Confederacy does not comply, we [the UEC] will be forced to bring them into compliance. We stand firm with our allies, Zoogiedom and Tomzilla, and we will not allow this treason to continue."

In a recently conducted CIN poll in the streets of Zachara, we found that 85% of the United Empire's citizens favor taking military action to force the Confederacy back into compliance. Eight percent feel that UEC should do everything it can to prevent a civil strife, but would support the UEC if a war broke out. And seven percent feel that Confederacy should be left alone.

In related news, the United Empire has begun mobilizing military forces. It has called up eight hundred thousand reservists so far. They've moved the Seventh Infantry Divison of the Imperial Army to the east of Alatsar, on stand by should any conflict break out. The Zoogie forces are, reportedly, going to use Isla Larga as a staging ground for their military forces, again, incase any conflict breaks out.

We will, undoubtedly, continue to cover this shocking chain of events....

Any aggressive action taken by Colerica against it's fellow nation will be regarded as an attack on Yerffej itself, per the Military Alliance Pact signed by the latter and New Colerica. With permission from the New Colerican government, the Yerffej government has authorized 8 Infantry divisions, 6 Cavalry divisons, 5 Armored Divisions, 1 AF Fighter Corps and 1 AF [Bomber Corps to be sent to New Colerica at once, for the defense of said state.
Yerffej also orders the Colerican government to immediately demobilize their recently mobilized military force, and to stand down."

The United Empire of Colerica shall not retract our forces nor shall we halt on reclaiming the seven states in rebellion. The United Empire does not recognize the rogue nation of New Colerica, and, in fact, you would be the only nation to do so. The United Empire does not take orders from Yerffej, nor do we have to allow seven states in rebellion to form their own nation. We will stop the rebels and force them back into the Empire at all costs. Any movement into Colerican waters will be considered an immediate and direct threat against the United Empire and we will take the appropriate action necessary to remove said immediate and direct threat. You will not disuade us from reclaiming the rebellious states and bringing them back into the United Empire. Hello, I'm Kathren Movan of the Colerica Imperial News network. We come to you now, live, with breaking news that a small United Empire military installation in Gyzen, Fort Rith, has been attacked by secessionist military forces belonging to the Confederacy of New Colerica. Reports are filtering out that a force of over four thousand CSNC soldiers, aided by CSNC tanks and helicopter gunships, attacked the small base a few hours ago. A small battle took place between the base's soldiers and the attacking secesh scum, but the brave Colerican soldiers were overrun by the cowardly enemy forces. UEC Major Thaos Falc was forced to lower the colors and surrender his base. The attack came too swift and the attacking forces specifically targeted the base's communications first, as to prevent reenforcements from arriving.

The outpost, Fort Rith, is one of the scores of small UEC forts scattered throughout the states. Fort Rith had a base population of around eleven hundred soldiers on staff. The fort had been recently undergoing a cycle of soldiers and was being overhauled to better accomidate the upcoming transfer of five thousand UEC troops.

Gyzen borders the secesh state of Jaxuum to north and had been selected by the United Empire as a strategic location to fortify, as it is a border state.

The cowardly enemy soldiers that attacked Fort Rith raised this flag over the remains of the base, where they are currently holding over eight hundred Colerican soldiers prisoner:

http://img24.exs.cx/img24/9735/ccross.jpg

Wait, now we are getting a released statement from the Imperial Palace. It appears that the Emperor will address the United Empire, and the world, tonight. Kressi Thra, Magistrate of State, says, quote, "The Confederate States of New Colerica foolishly rejected the ultimatum with this cowardly attack on the United Empire's forces. There will be hell to pay. The UEC will never tolerate this outrage. You've made your grave, New Colerica, now prepare to lie in it."

The attack comes just after more shocking news, this time from the United Empire's forces in Isla De Plata. It appears that Colerican General, Kayne Tetarinn, has resigned from the United Empire's military and has left Isla De Plata all-together. He states in a letter he wrote to his fellow General, Azben Koren, and our beloved Emperor, Maderic Thra, quote, "I've debated this for weeks now I've come to the decision I knew I'd come to all-along. I can't fight my own people. Kally is my home and I have no greater duty than to my home."

Rumors, though unconfirmed, are stating that Kayne Tetarinn has offered his military services to Ruraq Kylaer, the Principle Director of the CSNC, and, reportedly, Kylaer overwhelmingly accepted. We will wait, however, to confirm this until we can recieve better collaberated sources.

Hello, I'm Kathren Movan of the Colerica Imperial News network. We bring you live to the CIN coverage of our beloved Emperor Maderic Thra's speech to the world. He is expected to outline the United Empire's course of events, following the seizure of Fort Rith at the hands of the cowardly secessionists, the Confederate States of New Colerica.

***

The elegant and gilded throne room of the Imperial Palace is shown. In the background sits the Emperor's throne with his table in front of it and large, 'all-seeing-view' window behind him. The deep maroon floors and walls are polished to a mirror finish. Gray trim nicely accents the room's features. Four Imperial Royal Guards, or Crimson Guardsmen, are shown. Their names come from the crimson uniforms each guard wears. Their faces are hidden behind helmets and each one holds a bayoneted rifle in their arms.

Soon, the Emperor, Maderic Thra, appears on screen. He's dressed in a more brooding attire than usual -- an all-black tunic. His icy blues seem to convey no emotion, as usual. The Emperor never showed his true emotions. He felt that it showed weakness and a lack of resolve. He had seen the death of his own brother right before his eyes and he didn't flinch. Perhaps that is what had made him so cold...so cunning....and so calculating.

And then, he speaks. "Citizens of the United Empire of Colerica. Nations of the world. Subjects. Allies. Enemies. I come before you tonight to address the uncertain path that lay before my nation. The United Empire stands at a cross-roads. For several weeks now, the United Empire has been divided. First, it began with just one state. Kally. Then it spread. Deviso. Jaxuum. Loros. It spread like fire across the United Empire. Belser. Kardu. Jicarr. Seven states that have declared their independance from the United Empire. My United Empire. Forty-four states were in this Empire when I became Emperor. And I intend to have that number back. This speech is a speech of choices.

The states that claim their legal secession from the United Empire are not only being foolish, they're being dishonest. It is illegal to secede from the United Empire. The states, however, chose to follow this criminal path of treason. The leaders of the illegally-formed Confederate States of New Colerica claim that they have the right, under the Colerican Constitution, to secede from the United Empire. The Colerican Constitution promises no such right.

I, as Emperor, will not allow my Empire, which has stood for hundreds of years, to be torn in two. I have the full obligation -- no, the responsbility -- to ensure that the United Empire remains united. Standing together, the Colerican states are invincible. Apart, they're laughable. It is time I bring my Empire back together. That is not my choice as Emperor; that is my obligation, my responsibility, my duty.

Today, the secessionist armies of the Confederate States of New Colerica attacked and seized a military fort belonging to the United Empire of Colerica. We had offered the Confederacy an ultimatum. We had given them the choice to decide their own future. They had the choice to throw down their arms and rejoin the United Empire voluntarily. And they refused that choice. The choice they made by turning down the ultimatum will be the death of them. When their downfall comes, they will have no one to blame but themselves. Remember that. The choice was in their hands and they squandered their oppertunity.

I've heard the saber-rattling of the Democratic Confederation of Yerffej. I listened to their rhetoric. Their words fall on deaf ears. If they choose to align themselves with the Confederate States of New Colerica, then they will share in their fate. I ask you, Mr. Cayhill, do not support a lost cause. The Confederacy has failed before they ever got the chance to have success.

Moreover, Mr. Cayhill, the United Empire finds it incredibly hypocritical of you to claim that you are protecting the Confederacy when it is the Confederacy who are the aggressors, not the United Empire. In step with the words of my nephew, Magistrate of Foreign Affairs Kircer Danton, I will tell you that you will not disuade the United Empire from protecting its citizens and retaliating against this menace to Colerican peace.

How can the Confederacy of New Colerica claim that they wish for peace when they attacked and captured Fort Rith? How can the Confederacy of New Colerica claim that they wish to be left alone when they're the ones who have drawn the sword against us? Those are questions, Mr. Cayhill, that are of dire importance for you to answer.

If you choose to support this menace to Colerican peace, the Confederacy of New Colerica, than you, too, shall become a menace to Colerican peace. We do not seek war with your nation, Mr. Cayhill. War is the sum of all evils. We will do everything in our power to prevent such evils from unleashing themselves. However, we have been backed into a corner with the Colerican Secession Crisis. The attack and capture of Fort Rith has pushed the United Empire to the edge of the precipice. We shall not fall of that precipice, Mr. Cayhill. We will defend our Empire and, once again, make it a United Empire.

By attacking Fort Rith, the secessionists have chosen to seal their own fate. That choice will bring about the most grievous of consequences.

As per my orders, the military forces of the United Empire of Colerica have mobilized. My Magistrate of War, Xevven Jericho, has written a declaration of war which I have signed. The United Empire of Colerica is officially at war with the Confederate States of New Colerica. No longer will there be any appeasement through absurd ultimatums. No longer will there be any dancing around the issue at hand. This fight will be fought on the battlefield, not on the negotiating table. With the sword, not the pen. With blood, not ink.

The United Empire calls upon its allies, Zoogiedom and Tomzilla, to draft declarations of their own and join us in this most noble of struggles. To preserve the United Empire, I pledge my life, my fortune, and my sacred honor. May this bitter storm pass us quickly and may the Colerican citizens always rememeber to Believe. Obey. Fight."

The Confederate States of New Colerica acknowledges that we took pre-emptive action by attacking and seizing Fort Rith. However, this was a measure of self-defense. Fort Rith was amassing troops for the inevitable UEC invasion of our nation. Know, Maderic and your allies, that we will fight for our rights. We will fight to the death. We will never yield until every last one us has been struck down. We will prove ourselves a faithful band. We will fight you long. We will fight you hard. We will fight you night and day.

The CSNC has declared war on the United Empire of Colerica. Any action made by Colerica's allies will result in the same consequences. Under General Tetarinn's leadership, the Confederate army, with the aid of our dear ally, Yerfejj, shall emerge victorious. We will fight for freedom or we'll die in the process.

The United Empire of Colerica is moving the 1st Corps of the Imperial Army into Gyzen. They will retake Fort Rith and will push the rebels from their strongholds to the sea. The Imperial Navy has been ordered to begin a blockade of the Confederate states. The shroud of darkness has fallen; this civil war has begun.

Fort Chase -- UEC AirForce Base -- The Colerican Colony of Rilos

First Lieutenant JeKam Wade stood before the 84th Airborne Division of the Imperial AirForce. His men had been briefed on the mission ahead of them and they had been informed that this would not be just a simple cake-walk. The 84th were to parachute into Jicarr and prepare for the upcoming ground invasion. They would mark targets for UEC airstrikes, sabotage any enemy fortifications, and detonate a Confederate weapons cache in the city of Nashir. That is, if everything worked according to plan.

Wade paced the runway. He looked into the eyes of each soldier who stood before him. He knew they were ready, but their eyes didn't convey that same feeling.

"You all know the mission before you. We will overcome the rebels and their obstacles and we'll emerge victorious. Now....board up," he stated.

A resounding, "Hoo-ah!" was shouted from every soldier. The 84th soon on loaded on the C-130 transports that stood on the runways behind them.

OOC: Here's the first state map I finished. I picked Deviso because that's where you said your forces landed....

Colerican waters; southeast of Belser

The CSS Tyrant, (the first ever Tyrant-class battleship and the ship that their namesake comes from), sailed through the clear blueish-green ocean water. The Tyrant's captain, Admiral Harris McCallum, stood in the bridge of the mighty vessel. To the east, but not out of sight, sailed the CSS Phantom and the CSS Spectre, two Iowa-class battleships. Below the service lurked two UEC on the surface.

Tyrant's mission was simple -- bombard the Confederate ports along the south-eastern coast. The Phantom and the Spectre were to accompany Tyrant on her mission. McCallum's goal was to cripple any chance the Confederacy, or Yerffej, had to use the major ports that were in the hands of the rebels. The blockade that was being formed by the Imperial Navy would cut-off all supply lines the Confederacy and Yerffej had. Their forces would be surrrounded with no where to escape to.

"Admiral McCallum," a voice said from within the bridge. McCallum turned to see an officer he recognized, his First Mate, Brandon JiJawara. "Admiral McCallum, we're almost in range of the first major target -- the Belser port of Nisc."

A smiled slipped on McCallum's lips. They had made excellent time. "This is good news. Give the order to fire at will," he said.

"Aye-aye," JiJawara said. "Should we radio Captain Rhett and Captain Lee of the free-fire decision?"

"There's no need to. Once we open up on the city, Nathan and Joshua will do the same. What is the word on the assembly of the blockade?" McCallum asked.

"Latest report says that they're nearing a thirty-five percent completion on the blockade. The rebels should be completely cut-off with in a few days, sir," the First Mate replied.

"Thirty-percent isn't nearly fast enough. Those boys are working ass-backwards, too. Is there any word on the Tomzilla forces?"

JiJawara looked down at the clipboard in his hands. After a moment, he said, "Yes. Their fleet is en route. ETA is one day (RL)."

McCallum nodded his head. "Good. There is still no word on the Zoogies, though, 'eh? They've been quiet for some time now and haven't made a peep now that war is underway."

"No, sir. They have not released any statements about their involvement in this since the start of the war," the officer responded.

A telephone in the bridge rang. McCallum picked it up. "Yes?" he greeted in question. "We're in range now? Excellent. As I just told JiJawara, I've given a fire at will status for all targets. This is a free-fire zone and rebs won't know what hit them," he said on the phone before hanging up.

"We're in range?" JiJawara, the First Mate, asked.

"Yes. Now it is time to watch the fireworks, Brandon," McCallum joked.

Within a few minutes, a series of deafening blasts were heard throughout Tyrant. The ship's twelve eighteen-inch guns lobbed their massive shells into the Confederate's port city of Nisc. Ten Tomahawk cruise missiles released from Tyrant and screamed towards their targets. Soon, similiar blasts could be heard coming from the guns of the CSS Phantom and the CSS Spectre. The ships' captains, Joshua J. Lee and Nathaniel Rhett, respectively, had been given the green-light by Tyrant to open-fire on any coastal target.

Confederate forces are digging in and preparing to defend their fortifications against the upcoming Colerican invasion of the Confederacy. The 9th CSNC Infantry Division is being transported from Loros into Deviso to meet up with the newly-landed Yerffej forces. The 14th Light Infantry Division is heading to Zeq to fortify the city from any enemy attacks. Some aircraft are being held in reserves and hidden in secret locations for emergency use.

Flak cannons and SAM sites are being assembled as quick as possible to surround each state's major cities and, of course, the Confederate's capital city of Medaak, located in Kally. The Confederacy's 7th Armored is pushing into Gyzen and has taken some ground. It is to dig in and prepare for any attack that may come its way by Colerica's Imperial Army First Corps.

We will live and fight by Deviso's Confederate battlecry; "We will not go gentle into that good night."

A large group of 300 Tomzillian aircraft headed for New Colerica. There were 100 B-52s, 50 F-16s, 100 F-18s, and 50 A-10s. About 100 miles from Deviso, they split into two groups. The B-52's and F-16s headed towards Medaak for the air strike. The A-10s and F-18s headed for the Yerffej land forces to make a strike before lack of fuel caused them to find air bases in loyal Colerican states. Meanwhile, the three Tomzillian fleets heading for Colerica changed course. They were going to give the Yerffej land forces a great surprise.

The CSS Tyrant, and her smaller assosciates, the CSS Phantom and CSS Spectre, cruised through the Colerican ocean. They had just finished a port bombardment of Wygray, a port city in Loros. Fleet resuppliers, in the form of Sea Knight helicopters, landed on Tyrant and had restocked the ship with more ammunition. The three Colerican vessels were to continue up the coast, hammering any and all important ports. At the last city of Wygray, Admiral McCallum had decided to use a few incinderary rounds on the city. When the rounds, thrown from the ship's twelve eighteen inch guns, hit the city, they caught everything they touched on fire. McCallum hadn't stayed and watched the blaze, but he persumed that the city had been burned to the ground.

With word that the Tomzilla fleet had arrived, the Colericans have doubled their efforts to form the blockade. The blockade is now at nearly sixty percent completion. The ships had to stop temporarly, to let the Tomzillian fleets through. Tomzilla states that they're, quote, "going to give the Yerffej land forces a great surprise."

Meanwhile, in regards to land forces, the Colerican Fifth Armored is moving fast to catch up with Kale's boys, the 49th Kurono Infantry Brigade. The two are moving to fortify the frontlines of Renna, on the border of Kardu. The First Corps, led by the reverred General Rax Hamle, is pushing into Gyzen to take back Fort Rith and remove the rebel threat. Hamle is almost as famous in the United Empire as a Azben Koren. He has seen years of fighting and it can be argued that he is a better general than Kayne Tetarinn. That's not to say for one second that Tetarinn should ever be underestimated. He's clever as a fox and Koren knows this.

The 3rd Rilos Corps, of the Colerican Colony of Rilos, arrived at Fort Majo during the night. A Rilosian carrier battle group is expected to arrive later in the week.

The group commander gave the signal. the A-10s dived towards the troops, while the F-18s maintained their altitude, preparing to drop laser-guided bombs. Suddenly, the group commander noticed landing craft heading towards shore and large explosions ripping apart the land where the aircraft hadnt passed over. The CSS Tyrant, CSS Phantom, and CSS Spectre continued their mission of bombarding the Confederate ports. Two cities had just been struck within the last hour. McCallum's plan had met the approval of Colerican Five-Star General Azben Koren, with Koren's words being, quote, "He [McCallum] has launched a campaign of naval destruction that drop the rebels to their knees."

First Mate Brandon JiJawara stood next to McCallum as they stared out of the large wheelroom windows of Tyrant. The grean ocean was lit up under the fading sun, casting the water and the ships with an orange glow. The telephone rang, disturbing McCallum's peace.

Irritated, he answered, "Yes? Really? This is most excellent. They've made exceptional time. Good. Ring me for anything new developing. Good bye."

The conversation was short. McCallum never had been one for talking. He enjoyed action.

JiJawara asked from behind McCallum, "Good news?"

"Very good news. The Tomzillian amphibious assault has landed," McCallum replied.

"That is very good news. Are we to supply them with any ground-pounding?" JiJawara questioned.

"Not yet. The choice is soley in my hands and they're choking the beaches right now with their forces. We'd do more harm than good if we began raining eighteen inch shells on their heads," Admiral McCallum responded.

"It appears the Emperor really enjoyed the news of our use of incenderary rounds on some of the ports," JiJawara commented.

"As I've heard. I finished a phone conversation with his Excellency earlier. He praised our work and has given us the green-light to continue our softening of the rebel ports. Once we get the blockade finished, this little insurrection will be at an end," McCallum said with a slight smile on his face.

OOC: Incase you haven't noticed, I'm avoiding RP'ing my landforces right now until I draw up better maps because Yerffej wants more details for reference points. Just thought I'd bring that up...

Admiral McCallum had been sipping coffee in the wheelroom when he heard the news. Tyrant had detected an unidentified vessel and was now sailing towards it to confirm their target. If the target proved to be Confederate, they would open-fire on it and sink it to the bottom. If it wasn't Confederate, they'd escort it out of the way.

Within a few minutes, the ship came into sight on the horizon. A handful of minutes after the first sighting, Tyrant was close enough for the spotters on deck to verify the make of the ship and, more importantly, the flag she waived. It was a Farragut-class destroyer and the ship bore the red, black, and silver cross of the Confederacy.

"Admiral McCallum," JiJawara said, briskly walking into the wheelroom and snapping a straight-arm salute to McCallum. "The ship is a Farragut-class destroyer. More importantly, it bears the Cross."

McCallum smiled. This is what he had hoped for. "It's foolish enough to fly the rebel flag; secession's rag? Then we're obligated to sink it. Inform all hands; change to ship-to-ship formations. I want that destroyer to be home fish, not enemy sailors. Fire at will," he instructed.

Brandon smiled. He enjoyed this. "Yes, sir. The rebels better know how to swim," he said with a cocky grin.

"Indeed," McCallum replied.

Within minutes, Tyrant's crew had formed into battle. The bow's two large turrets, holding three eighteen inch guns each, turned to face the Confederate destroyer. The men inside loaded the massive shells into the guns and prepared them for firing. After a minute, the first shell was launched. The loud blast was deafening. The shell launched from Tyrant and raced towards the Confederate's ship.

In the latest report on the escalating Colerican civil war, an additional unspecified amount of forces are being committed to Colerica...in other news, the Zoogiedom air and naval forces began operations against New Colerica today...

Transmission to Yefferej;

'We have no business in fighting against you and do not wish to do so, however; we will if we must. The secessionist states are violating the stability and law of the Colerican government, which has done nothing to our knowledge to offend them to this point. They are acting illegally and are a threat to national safety.

For now, all Zoogiedom forces have been ordered to not attack Yefferej forces unless attacked first, and Yefferej has been labelled 'neutral.' We hope that you see reason, and rescind your support for these rebels...

The Go order was given, and operations against New Colerica comenced: precision strikes in order to gain a tactical advantage by undermining New Colerican military infrastructure and cutting military supply lines.

From the aircraft carriers currently in the arena, ZaS-27M fighters began to take off and patrol the skies; ZaS-42M fighters infiltrated past New Colerican radar and began striking select communications and logistics targets with precision small diameter bombs...as in Isla de Palata, we hope to enjoy aerial superiority over the rebels.

Meanwhile, F/A-18 Hornet aircraft have engaged in suppression of enemy air defense missions (SEAD) to knock out potential threats to friendly aircraft. Destroyers are targetting and firing on shoreline defenses and command centers to destroy communications and the enemy's ability to fight...we spared no expense in the first wave, hitting as many targets as possible.

Word among the New Colerican command was heated, excited, and a bit frantic. General Knox had a casual look on his face as he almost always did. Reports were coming from all over the place. The Tomzilla assault force had arrived and had landed on Deviso. The Zoogie forces had begun their attack. Medaak had been subject to a small raid by the Tomzillian airpower. General Tetarinn, though, held the reigns to all of the discussion.

In response to the Tomzillians, we're engaging currently, the New Colericans are both digging in and are attacking. Our Tenth Amored is advancing to engage the Tomzillians on the beaches. We will push back into the sea where these invading snakes belong.

The Faragut-class missile destroyer watched as a shell slammed into the port side of the cabin and exploded. Sailors ran around the decks in panic. The ship, Valor, retaliated against the Tyrant by launching a Viper anti-ship missile at the ship. Their targeting computers had been damaged in the shelling, though, so they had no clue if the missile would actually strike the Colerican's battleship. The crew worked fast to put out the fire but it was spreading.

20 CSNC F-15's, 33 CSNC F-16's, and 24 CSNC F-18's have being scrambled from airbases in Deviso to prevent the Zoogies from their destructive mission in the air. The call was to not allow the Zoogies to gain the air superiority. As the British RAF did in the Battle of Britain, the Confederates hoped to do the same. They'll dogfight the Zoogies until every plane was gone. Crews were fast to try and fix or replaced damaged anti-aircraft installations throughout the coastal states and beyond. More flak cannons were set up and more SAM batteries were equipped. They had the order to launch at the faintest of rader detection, knowing that the better-equipped enemy forces had stealth aircraft. While the Confederacy had some stealth fighters and a handful of stealth bombers, they simply did not comare to the numbers of the three enemy nations combined.

IC:

Sensors and alarms buzzed and wailed inside Tyrant. McCallum looked to JiJawara who stood watching the many controls of the bridge.

"Sir, they've launched an AGM-41 at us. Our computers have picked it up and that's why their screaming," he said quickly.

"What's the sitrep? Is it going to hit us?" McCallum asked.

"We're in luck, sir. It doesn't appear so. Either we damaged their targeting computers or they've got a faulty missile. It's going to high to strike us. Even if it does hit us, I doubt it will do any damage.

A few momemts later, the AGM-41 Viper anti-ship missile screamed overhead of Tyrant and completely missed the ship. The missile continued it's arc and splashed down in the water. Brandon let out a rejoiced sigh as did Admiral McCallum.

"Direct all fire on that vessel and sink it. Now," McCallum ordered through the intercom system.

A minute or so later, the twelve eighteen-inchers on Tyrant all opened-fire on the Confederate missile frigate. Several of the fourteen five-inch guns fired on the Valor, as well. Four BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from Tyrant and raced through the towards the Valor. Unlike the Confederate's ship, Tyrant's targeting computers were functioning. The barrage of fire lit up the dim sky and threw plumes of fire and smoke into the air.

OOC: Note, I just made up that type of missile (the AGM-41 Viper anti-ship) as I have no clue what New Colerica was intending on meaning...there's no such thing as a Viper missile, to my knowledge, at least......

The Valor watched as the income Colerican attack of shells hit the ship. Explosions erupted throughout the ship and smoke billowed into the air from the stern of the bridge. Fire was sweeping through the inside of the ship and a few unlucky Confederate sailors ran around on deck, their clothes engulfed in flames. Seconds later, the cruise missiles found their target. The ship lit up like a Christmas tree. Explosions rocked the Valor and it began taking on water.

Inside the fiery bridge, an officer found the captain. "Sir, we have to abandon ship. There's no hope to save her. We're taking on water fast."

"Let the men to the life boats," the captain said. "Launch anything we can at the Colericans."

Two more anti-ship missiles were blind-fired by the Confederates, in a last ditch effort for any amount of revenge. But it was expected that the missiles wouldn't do much. When in a fight, you shouldn't let someone punch you in the face five times and then kick them in the shins.

Good to be back. Who is roleplaying as New Colerica now?...I suppose I'll post up my numbers from the several carriers now, now that there is opposition

The control room of the carrier Zamora II buzzed with excitement, as enemy aircraft began appearing on the radar...first one squadron...then two...then three. It seemed as if the New Colericans were absolutely ready and waiting...but they did not know what they were getting themselves into.

"Hot dog! Now we can fight!" shouted a radar operator in glee, punching his fist in the air. He, as most of the other Zoogiedom military forces, hadn't seen true combat for years, not since Isla de Palata...and he missed the chase. "'15's, 16's, and 18's..."

"Alert the patrols," ordered his commander; his order was relayed immediately to the Firebird squadrons. "Now we'll see how rebellion fighters match up against cutting edge Zoogiedom technology."

..backed up by a very extensive logistics team.

Look alive, guys, the rebels are coming out to play ball...

More F-18 aircraft that were on alert began to take off from the aircraft carriers and take to the skies, bluffing the overall Zoogiedom presence - after all, there were fifty stealth aircraft that were employing stealth to the greatest extent possible so as not to be seen, including relying on AWACs radar rather than their own.

It was time to see how the best of developed and uprated Zoogiedom technology would match up against the rebellion standards...and time to see how the fierce resolve of the Zoogie pilots would match up against the desperate and equally fierce resolve of the rebels...

The fighter squadrons did not hesitate, and engaged.

(My F-18s and MiG-29s would take the most losses, as F-14s are circling my fleets with ungodly-ranged Kazakhstanian missiles, and the other aircraft are for all intents and purposes, invisible)

The incoming AGM-41's were detected by Tyrant's sensors and the alarms again wailed. McCallum looked to JiJawara, trying to get confirmation on if the missiles would miss like the last one did.

"Sir, I don't know about these ones," JiJawara said, an edge of uncertainity in his voice. "One looks like it might dip into the ocean before it reachs us, but the other appears to be heading right for us. If it hits, it will hit the stern of the cabin. Estimatly around the rear comm rooms," Brandon said, looking at the various screens.

"How much time? Get everyone out of those rooms!" McCallum shouted. He ran to the intercom and slammed his fist against the voice activation button. "Incoming missile. All hands vacate B deck's stern outgoing communications room ASAP."

"The first missile is falling down, it's losing altitude fast. It's damn good that we hit their targeting systems with the first shells. The second missile hasn't changed course and it's coming in on us PDQ," JiJawara shouted.

The AGM-41 whistled through the air and slammed into Tyrant. The ship shook from the explosion. McCallum braced himself by grabbing hold of a table in the wheelroom while the ship shook. In a few seconds, the shaking stopped and the sound of men shouting started. JiJawara ran to the starboard door and looked out. Smoke rose into the air from where the missile had struck. Brandon ran down towards the gathering of sailors who were fast at work to put out the fire. Tyrant's onboard automatic fire control system kicked in and it rained water B deck's stern communications room. In a few minutes, the fire was out.

***

"How bad is the damage?" McCallum asked JiJawara when he returned.

"Not bad, sir. AGM-41's lack a decent armor-piercing nose, so the missile didn't cause us much problems as it had a hard enough time trying to get through the armor. Seven men killed, nine injured, minor fire damage. The auto-fire control did more damage to the communications set up in there than the missile did," JiJawara informed.

Admiral McCallum thought it out for a moment and said, "Their ship is still afloat. Sink it faster. Those seven men deserve to retribution for having the rebels take their lives."

"Yes, sir," JiJawara said.

With in a few minutes, the ship's bow turrets open-fired on the Valor, lobbing several shells to the ship. Three AGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missiles launched from Tyrant and sailed towards the Confederate's sinking missile frigate. The Harpoon missiles skimmed the surface of the water and raced to the port side of the Valor, exploding when they hit it.

Of course, we never expect anything to be a cakewalk. We can only hope our technological superiority will give us an advantage, but we are not counting on it.

As Zoogiedom was engaged in a regional military situation, it could not deploy as much forces as it so badly wanted to, and was overtaxing its own military terribly - by our standards, which are very high - at the moment.

Therefore, we have called on our allies to aid us in this matter, submitting what token or magnificent forces as they are able to spare to aid in the quelling of this rebellion.

Among these nations are Hawaiian Islands and Truitt.

Confederate pilot, Lt. Jason Silec, soared above the skies of Deviso in his F-15 Eagle. The plane always had been his favorite and now he was using it in combat against the technologically superior Zoogie air forces. He snaked his plane through the air, trying to chase an enemy F-18. If he could get a lock on the fighter with one of his AIM-7 Sparrow's, it would be all she wrote for one of the Zoogie pilots. But that was Silec's problem. He simply couldn't get a lock on the fighter. That is, until he re-situated his aircraft. The targeting computer blinked red on the green enemy aircraft. It continued to blink red until it became a solid red target. Jason smiled and released an AIM-7 at the locked-on target. The missile released Silec's F-15 and sped away towards its target.

His fellow Confederate pilots engaged and dueled with the Zoogie forces all around him. One Confederate F-18 was shot down as it flew past by Jason's plane, on fire. The pilot ejected into the air and Jason saw his parachute spring open.
_______________________

The Harpoon anti-ship missiles blew three gaping wounds in the Valor, right at the waterline. The ship began to flood dramatically faster than it had been and began to list to one side. Very few of the lifeboats could be launched because the Valor was at such a high list. The majority of crew were still on board and couldn't get off on any boats, among them was the captain of the Valor. The ship was rapidly sinking. It would not be long until it listed too far to the port side and then it would capsize. The Confederacy's Farragut-class guided missile destroyer, Valor, had no hope to be saved.

About fifteen minutes later, the Valor flipped over and slowly began to sink, throwing over 185 alive and injured Confederates in the water. At least 218 Confederate crewmen went down with the ship, including the captain.

He immediately pulled the aircraft into evasive manueverings, swerving far off from his original course - changing vector, speed, altitude...he knew that for the AIM-7 to hit him, the F-15 pilot would have to maintain his lock all the way through. From his own experience some fifteen years prior, when he first became a pilot, he knew how much hell that would be, no matter how good your own plane's aerodynamics.

He just thanked the Zoogie Navy for providing him with Meteors.

Another fighter in his wing performed a quick about-face and began scanning for the attacking fighter, as did other members of his wing. The enemy no doubt had friends nearby.

"Lock-o," radioed the lead pilot, letting lose an AMRAAM. "Thank heavens for active radar."

"Good," he said, jinking his aircraft violently again: there was still a missile on his tail.
-

Meanwhile, other aircraft in the Zoogie Navy were not so lucky. Several ZaS-42s were forced to abort bombing runs as their stealth was compromised during bomb delivery and anti-air missiles snaked after them, wasting precious time. One was already shot down.

The MiG-29s were also having difficulty. The Soviet fighters were having plenty of trouble acquiring and maintaining a lock on the enemy F-18s, with whom they were having a mostly even duel with. Of the ten in the air, six were already down, but the enemy count was probably around even; they didn't have time to count.

Some ZaS-27 pilots had a more relaxed time; they were still tugging to their CAP navigation routes and remained largely undetected, engaging and firing active radar missiles and then returning to formation.

Others, however, had pursued flights of F-16s, F-15s, and F-18s, finding themselves vulnerable to close range heatseekers and dogfighting, where their technical superiority still held, although much less so without the advantage of stealth. The trouble then wasn't being too much easier to shoot down, it was trying to get a lock and successfully splash an enemy.

-

'Success!' cried a ZaS-42 lieutenant as he vectored his aircraft away from the explosion below. 'What?' An unexpected warning rang out from his RWR, and he turned and found an F-16 in his rearl...the legendary and stunningly effective dogfighter.

He armed his heatseekers and spun the aircraft around in a snap, as he watched the range meter close down...3.8nm...3.6nm...he fired two of his ASRAAMs, switched the arm to his twin cannons, and began to pursue.

"Damn, this guy is good," Jason said as he began to chase the Zoogie F-18. He quickly backed-off after realizing it would be more than he could handle. Jason was good, but he wasn't that good. He banked around and then alarms went off in the cockpit, alerting him to the fact that a Zoogie AIM-130 AMRAMM Slammer was on his tail.

Too close for comfort. Too close to evade.

The missile, traveling at Mach 4, slammed into Jason's tail, erupting the back half of his F-15 in flames. Sensors and alarms wailed throughout the cockpit, all of which he ignored.

"I'm hit. Going down," he shouted over the radio to his wingman, Lt. Remm.

"You can't eject. Enemy machine gun fire will tear you to shreds. You're going to have to land it," Remm told him.

"Land it?!" Jason answered, shocked. He calmed himself down. "You're right. Land it," he said and pointed the nose of the F-15 towards the ground. He no longer had any control over the fighter's engines, so he could only hope to glide the plane in for a semi-safe landing. If he it the water, he'd be able to get out and get to shore. If he hit the land, he could have trouble. He might not survive the crash and he might be in the middle of nowhere. He glanced over his shoulder to see how bad the fire was; it was spreading fast. The F-15 Eagle fell through the sky like a lead weight. Jason's only hope was that the fire wouldn't reach the fuel until he was out of the plane, but there could be no way to be sure of that. Moments later, Jason crashed into a set of trees, just along the Deviso coastline. The plane stayed in the trees; for a few moments, at least. Jason, as quick as possible, got himself out of the plane and grabbed hold of a branch while his fighter fell to the ground and exploded. He was alive, but barely.

________________

Remm didn't like what he saw and he was going to get some revenge for his friend. He scanned the area, banked his F-16 around an incoming enemy fighter, and found the plane that launched the AMRAMM that had downed Silec. He struggled to get a lock on the plane and then he did.

"Payback is a bitch, buddy," he said to himself as he released two AIM-9M Sidewinders at the Zoogie aircraft.

_________________

Jordan Heo, pilot of the F-16 in question, had been chasing a ZaS-42 around the air and had a lock on it, but the fighter had reversed course and was now after him. Buzzers went off when his Fighting Falcon detected the incoming ASRAAMs.

"I got two seekers on my ass," he shouted over the Confederate radioline to any ears that were listening.

"Try and run 'em out," a pilot in his flanks told him.

"Worth a shot, but I doubt it," said Heo.

He pulled the plane around in a semi-circle and then tried everything he could think of to get the missiles of his tail, but it wasn't working. There's not much of a chance to escape a ASRAAM, considering they use infared imagine as their guidance. He spun again, but it was too late. One of the AIM-132's hit him and exploded. It felt like it tore his right wing off. The plane dropped altitude instantly and Heo lost control of it. Regaining the controls, he spun around, desperately trying to take a shot at the ZaS-42 that had hit him, but he couldn't find the plane.

[Zas-42 in question]

"Bingo!" breathed the pilot, watching as he scored a hit on the F-16, and then turned off all radar systems and engaging in radio silence. He had expended his ammunition anyways, and would have to rely on stealth and speed to report back to his carrier. With active radar, he was as lit up on enemy screens as could be.

There were more aircraft in that squadron, though, so he fired a text message off to the nearest ZaS-42 group on a bombing run to take care of it. He watched as three allied aircraft pointed their noses in the direction of the recent splash...

[F-18 in question]

'Sidewinders!' hissed the pilot of the lead flight, engaging the flare countermeasures and disengaging from the flight. He had no hope of getting a lock on the attacker now, he was too busy trying to evade.

The F-18 did a graceful barrel role as he watched a missile streak past him harmlessly, then began to climb up to re-engage the pursuing aircraft. The second heatseeker slammed into his afterburning engines, choking out most of the thrust. His engine had flamed out.

'It's no good, I'm bugging out,' he radioed his squadron, and pulled around his aircraft as much as he could. He watched the altimeter fall as he tried to get as far from the combat scene as possible. At 2500 feet he finally pulled the ejection lever, and was shot up into the air as he watched his aircraft go into a tailspin uselessly into the sea.

However, he had two wingman in the arena. They both began to tail the F-16, one leading pursuit, one trailing. The F-16 didn't have time to turn around and fire at them after just attacking the squadron leader...each fired an ASRAAM, and the lead pursuit feinted off to engage other enemy aircraft in the area.

-

The New Colerican F-16 was heavily damaged but still barely airworthy; it hadn't crashed yet. That wasn't the worry of the two ZaS-42s that had entered the area, flying in low altitude. A single ZaS-27 was engaging them from the other side and over twenty miles out. It fired two Meteor missiles at two different aircraft, and closed in for more...the two ZaS-42s watched the range meter close in, and armed their ASRAAMs.

OOC: What do you mean? My battleships (CSS Tyrant, CSS Phantom, and CSS Spectre) were in their mission to bombard the Confederate ports. They came across a Confederate Farragut-class missile frigate, (Valor), and attacked it. The Valor managed to hit Tyrant with one missile, but it didn't do significant damage. Tyrant attacked it again, and the ship capsized and sunk.

Remm enjoyed watching one of his Sidewinders hitting the Zoogie F-18. But he didn't have much time to enjoy his view as his computers picked up on the incoming ASRAAM's. He didn't have much of a chance to movel, either. He gunned the jet the and the Falcon accelerated, but it was too late. One of the AIM-132's hit him just below the left wing. The force of the explosion jarred Rem and the knocked the plane out of control. He looked frantically around inside the cockpit until he reached a low enough altitude to eject. The canopy blew open and Remm was thrown into the air. A few moments later, he pulled his ripcord and opened his chute, slowly gliding down towards the Deviso soil.

[Ahck, can't make up names on spot....]

The MiG pilot cursed as his RWR lit up, signalling a locking Slammer had been fired on him. He ordered what was left of his flight group to engage, and began to try every countermeasure known to man.

Several minutes later, the missile was still on his tail and closing fast. In a last ditch effort, the pilot pulled his MiG into a high-G dangerous manuever and released chaffs, hoping he would throw the missile off. He didn't; it slammed into the side of his plane, tearing off one of his wings and sending the MiG into a tailspin.

Smoke clouding his cockpit, the pilot ejected just in time but was thrown roughly across the skies and towards the water...

He tightened the laces on his combat boots. He doubled-checked his extra magazines that were carried in the many ammunition pouches of his flak vest. He fitted the kevlar-lined helmet on top of his head, securly over his blondish-brown hair. He checked how tight the holsters of his twin Jericho-.40's were on his thighs. He retrieved his rifle, an M-4 modified to this own personal liking.

Looks good, he thought.

Brigadier General Mark Travis of the United Empire of Colerica's Imperial Army had been selected for deployment in the Colerican Civil War. His brigade, oddly nicknamed "The Damned Ones," -- the 11th Kurono Infantry -- had seen varying degrees of combat before. The Damned Ones were among one of the most decorated units in the UEC military, following their heroic actions during the liberation of Isla De Plata.

Travis had landed on Red Sector B, Isla De Plata, as part of the land invasion in the liberation of that nation.* He was just a Colonel then. He had been freshly transferred from a lowly job in the Zachara security-police following his bravery during the Eric Ledger riots. He was later field-commissioned a Brigadier General by direct orders of Five-Star UEC General Azben Koren. He had served in covert operations throughout the city of Tagdenbar during the land war in Isla De Plata. He had seen warfare first-hand. He expected that this would be no different.

Travis hated this war, even though he hadn't seen a second of action. He had been torn away from his girlfriend, Arissa James, on a split-second notice. He and his sister had been separated during a troop rotation, and Allie was now presently attatched to Major General Rax Hamle's First Corps or "Victory" as the Corps was named. He had incredibly limited contact with her since the Civil War began.

Mark often found himself writing letters to Arissa now. He had shot a few e-mails during the rare times he had access to the Internet. The letters were primarily the same in content. They outlined his love for her. They gave her a few words of encouragement. They gave her something to hold onto while he was away, serving his nation in this bloody civil strife. Travis had written her in his first letter a very defined list for what he wanted her [Arissa] to do if he was killed in action. However, neither Mark nor Arissa enjoyed discussing what would happen if he was killed.

He had been given his orders from Stefanie Baszley, his relay partner. Stefanie and Travis had an interesting relationship. They had arrived in the Imperial Army on the same day. They went through basic with eachother at the same camp. They were born on the same day, with Mark being one year her senior. Coincidences were somewhat common amongst Travis and Baszley, but they worked well with eachother.

The Damned Ones had been selected for deployment to Rygaul and were to fortify the border town of Mexall. The small town was a strategic point, necessary for the United Empire to control.

Travis opened the letter in his pocket. He hated been given orders through snail mail; it was so primitive. Many of the powerlines, however, had been damaged during conflict, so letters were a common way of assuring that direct orders reached their recipient.

General Travis,

Let me be first to congratulate you on all that you have done in your short, but decorated military career. You're an excellent young leader. That is why I've signed your deployment. Your 11th KI [Kurono Infantry] Brigade is to fortify and defend the border location of Mexall, Rygaul. The rebels want the city and so do we. Secure Mexall, Travis. I have faith in you and your men.

Sincerely,
Azben Koren

His brigade would be alone in this mission. They wouldn't get much of any reenforcements and his men actually liked it that way. The Damned Ones were infamous for how they handled combat -- solo. They enjoyed the fame that was brought on them by simply fighting as one unit, but by themselves. It achieved great success in Isla De Plata and his men reasoned it would achieve great success against the Confederates.

OOC: * = The time-table for my nation is incredibly screwed-up and I like it that way. I say that certain things were a few years ago, like the Isla De Plata war, but it has absolutely no reflection on my characters' ages. My characters' ages run off the RL calander. When Mark Travis, for example, was fighting in the Isla De Plata RP he was 23. He's 24 now.....

Outskirts of Mexall, Rygaul

A column of UEC light-armored vehicles, all belonging to Travis' 11th KU IB (Kurono Infantry Brigade), slowly moved through the narrow town streets. The light-armored column consisted mostly of light-armored Fuchstransportpanzer APC's, with several CAS Spider 4WD Fast Attack Jeeps scattered amongst the group, around five of the rarely-seen CAS UAAV-03A1 Rage, and a few occassional M-2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle thrown in for good measure. There was no heavier armored support for them. The Damned Ones would secure Mexall. If the Confederates attacked, they'd defend it until UEC reenforcements could arrive.

Travis' brigade was all around the place; most of the men inside the APC's, while others were on foot, walking along the side of the column. Men patrolled the streets and some walked through houses. There were still some of the town's citizens dwelling in the village. Most of them were packing up everything they had and leaving as fast as possible, as the majority of the town's population already had done.

Travis, himself, rode in the passanger seat of a Spider 4WD. His close friend, Lieutenant Alec Chambers, was his driver. They moved slowly along the streets, trying to get by the even slower-moving column. They'd set up a command center in a pre-chosen building not far from their present location. Then they'd establish a perimeter of the village and work to secure all the roads. If there was any hint that the rebels were going to attack, they wanted to make sure that they were ready for it.

Mexall, Rygaul

Brigadier General Mark Travis stood amongst his top officers at a table inside their newly-created forward command center. The Damned Ones had scattered throughout the city, fortifying different locations and securing certain strategic spots for a possible defense, if attacked, from Confederate forces.

"....the hardest place to fortify, General Travis, is the field and woods all around us. We have the Death Ridge to east of us. If we get attacked, the whole operation here could be FUBAR," a Lieutenant was rambling.

"Calm down, Lieutetant Spears. What are the chances that the rebels will come through the woods and blazing across the field?" Travis said, half jokingly.

"I still think we should have the nearest Colerican airplanes scrambeled to check out our surroundings for any enemy forces," Lieutenant Chambers said.

Travis turned his head. "The rebs want this city. That much we're sure of. However, we just don't know when they're going to make a move on the city. When they do, we'll be ready for them," he stated.

"I sure hope you're right, sir," Lieutenant Spears said, worried.

"Of course, I'm right," Travis replied with a cocky smile. "This will all go as planned and we'll be out of here before you know it," he continued. "How high is this Death Ridge?"

"Death Ridge is roughly three hundred and ten feet tall. It's not a straight up mountain or anything. It's a mix of high, sloping hills, and craggy rocks, sir," Chambers said.

"We'd be hard-pressed to stop the rebs if they took the ridge. They'd sweep down from the hill and take the city," Spears responded.

"Spears, you're forever the pesimist," Travis said. "Learn to look on the bright side of things," he stated.

On vacation up til Wednesday, then sick. Throat's still killing me. The Tylenol does wonders though...then it starts killing me again. Where's Yeffrej?

The ZaS-42 pilot saw that he had been fired upon almost immediately; based on his briefings and the current range, he guessed some sort of AIM-9, although whether the older but still efficient M variant or the newer X variant...he wasn't sure.

He watched the aircraft countermeasures kick in: jamming equipment kicked in and flares were propelled from the back of the aircraft towards the missile. Swivelling his head around in the high-rise cockpit, he watched as the missile reached closer, manually ejected another flare, and immediately banked his aircraft around hard, dropping thousands in altitude while turning his aircraft around. The Sidewinder took the bait and shot past him; however, the MiG was deadly in close combat and he wasn't too in the mood from more, head pounding from the sudden spike in G's.

Turning down jammers and active sensors, and pulling back on the throttle, he dropped further in altitude through a dense layer of clouds, hopefully having thrown the lock and become stealthy once more. His two wingman were in a better position to counter; they weren't already lit up on the enemy's HUD.

Oh well. How soon will the land war be?

A massive catamaran docked in the harbor, delivering the latest shipment of tanks and vehicles to the Zoogiedom land force mustered for the Colerican civil war. This time, more forces were appropriated...we would be ready.

Ninety thousand soldiers were already gathered in the area, with a further twenty thousand arriving before week's end. The entire war machine was quickly turning into place: the battle plans were drawn up; maps were analyzed; intelligence was gathered, and special forces were deployed.

At length the ships were spotted. A fine-sized Zoogiedom naval force was arriving, composed of littoral combat ships, destroyers, and amphibous assault ships. It was a sign to every soldier at the base: war was quickly coming.

General Travis stood in the forward command center, staring at a map that was laid out on a table. A few officers scurried about the room, doing various minor tasks. General Riaen Sasx had given the order: all forces move in. The attack begun as soon as possible. Artillary, from atop the Death Ridge, rained shells down into Mexall. A rag-tag group of armored vehicles raced towards the city from the west. Infantry marched to the field and began their trek across to the town.

"Take them out, all of them," Sasx ordered to his men. "Leave no room for mistakes!"

"Sir, they're attacking!" an Imperial soldier shouted.

Rebel shells rained down to the ground and lit up the entire city. Their artillery was good and their aim was right. Lt. Chambers turned his head and saw a shell crash into a humvee; the vehicle exploded. He saw two men running around out from near the humvee. They were on fire and were screaming in agony. He grabbed his M-16A2 and ran for cover.

***

Travis awoke to the sounds of screams, shells, and gunfire. He glanced out his window and caught a glimpse of the true horror of war. A young Imperial soldier, to whom is under his command, lay dead in front of the window. Travis leaped to his feet and bolted out of the room, only after grabbing his modified M-4 and fastening his Jericho-.40's in their holsters. He didn't even take the time to grab his helmet. As soon as he was outside, he met up with Lt. Spears.

"Spears, I need a fucking sitrep!" he shouted.

"Do you even need to ask, sir? The rebs caught us with our pants down. They're shelling us from the Death Ridge. They must'a seized it last night when we didn't have time to act," he shouted over the sounds of gunfire and other men shouting. "They're crossin' the field and their sending their armor straight at us from the west. We're royally screwed!"

"Calm down. I'm splitting the command of our forces. You take command of our armor to counter-act the Reb armor. I'll take to the field. Chambers will remain here and assume control of all forces within the immediate reaches of the city. We have to eliminate their artillary," Travis ordered.

Spears breathed deep. "Yes, sir. We can do this," he said.

"We can do this. It's time to kick some ass," Travis said with a familiar cocky grin.

***

Travis stood amongst soldiers under his command to the southeast of the city. They were digging in, making impromptu fortifications, and awaiting the Rebel forces to make their move across the field. Some were setting up behind a long stonewall that snaked its way across the field. This would be hell for everyone involved.

He stared in several of the soldiers' eyes. These were kids younger than he. Eighteen, nineteen, twenty year-old boys and girls that were scared. Scared little children. And, at that moment, Brigadier General Mark Travis was one of them. But they would do as all soldiers do -- what they're ordered to. They would fight and, if need be, die, for the United Empire -- their home.

That's the connection we share with the Rebels, Travis thought. We're both fighting for our homes. They don't want to die anymore than we do. Then the reality of the war finally hit him, the Rebs are Colericans, too.

Travis shook his head. He had to prepare for this. He had to be ready. This was war. He could challenge his thoughts after the battle was over. He clutched his M-4 like he was clinging on for his life. He remembered his training. "Your weapon is your life," was the phrase that was burned into every Colerican soldiers' memory by the DI's. So, in logic, holding tight to his M-4 was holding tight to his life.

"Listen up," he shouted amongst the ranks. "This is hell, I understand. But this is a hell we must suffer through. This is a hell we must endure. If we're to win, this is a hell we'll call home. Thomas Jonathon Jackson, better known as Stonewall, put it best when he said that war is the sum of all evils. This is an evil we, unfortunately, cannot evade. Give 'em everything we got boys," he paused, looked at a female soldier he was friends with, Renee Sadec, and added to his statement, "and girls. And remember the words of General Koren, 'A hero may not live forever, but a coward never lives at all.' We're outnumbered -- pretty bad. But if we're to die, then let's take as many of them as we can with us. If you're going to drown, at least drown knowing that you were heading towards shore," Travis' message touched to each of his six hundred plus soldiers. The brigade had been split up, in order to better defend the city, and these were all the men and women he could gather to defend the southeast field from the Confederate invasion.

"Hoo-ah!" shouted the UEC soldiers.

"We'll give our lives for the United Empire!" a voice shouted.

"We'll fight for you, General Travis, we'll fight for you!" another shouted.

Travis smiled. But it was false bravado. Inside, he was afraid. As were all of The Damned Ones that stood around him in proud array. But they would swallow their fear. They'd swallow it so that they could fight. They'd bottle it up inside themselves and keep it from sight. Fear would break the group's morale and could easily cause them to lose this fight.

The Imperial soldiers hunkered down behind their impromptu barriers and fortifications on the far-end of the field. Ahead of them, Confederate infantry was making a slow, but steady march directly towards them. The sure numbers of the Confederates would be enough to over-run them. Travis only hoped that his forces could hold the Rebels long enough to get them to halt their attack plans. He also hoped that his forces could inflict enough casualities on the Rebels that they'd withdraw.

It appeared, however, that some of the Rebels were entrenching themselves, similiar to how the Colericans had done. This would taking years of battlefield tactics, and reverting to a World War I style of fighting. Travis didn't want to see this happen, but he didn't have much of a choice.

"Sir, I think some of their men are digging in," a Lieutenant standing beside Travis told him.

"Let them make the first move. Let them exhaust their men and run-down their supplies by hauling ass across the field. We'll be here, waiting for them," Travis replied.

"Sir, they've got light armor and numerous APC's," another soldier said.

"That's our problem," Travis said grimly.

The Confederate city of Bakac, Deviso contains large fuel reserves that are vital to contain. The reserves only fuel (pun intended) the Confederate war machine. Take the city and capture the oil reserves. The Rebels will, no doubt, fight to the death to keep the fuel in their control and may even burn it should they lose control of the city.

OOC: Or, you could go for this RP:

IC:

Seize Deviso's capital, Zeq. The city must be taken. It will considerably cut-back on the Confederacy's command and control throughout the entire state.

The Confederates approached the Colerican line, some in APC's, most on foot. They didn't have much of a choice for their tactics in this situation. The general had given the order to overrun the Colerican line. Guns rattled off non-stop. Soldiers on both sides fell dead and wounded as the two forces shot at eachother. While the Confederate's tactic of marching straight towards the Colericans was a bit archaic, this was what they were doing and it seemed to be working. The sheer numbers of the Confederates would overpower the Colericans.

OOC: Sorry about the delay in reply...I was out of town....The battle has carried into the night.

Mexall, Retac County, Rygaul

August 18th, 2004

The Colerican Cross, New Colerica’s flag, hung in a sorrowful drape of stalemate, its once gallant features now blended with all of its lackluster surroundings. The Rebel pride that had once carried it transversely across the battlefield had slipped away, as if to be a reminder of the lives forever lost in keeping its heroic fabric from touching the ground. The flag’s facade was now peppered with the marks of more bullet holes than could be counted.

On the opposing side, the Bent N, as the Imperials called it, was no healthier. It was shredded and tainted -- marks of the battle it had endured. A slight breeze moved both flags to and fro, and the sound of distant thunder rumbled past them and into the soldiers that lay under the night sky. The Rebels were positioned inside a long shallow valley in the field, for which the battle had taken place.

It had, at length, been a remorseless battle -- a struggle of military power and human spirit that culminated to an ultimate stalemate. The stalemate had been fought by men with high spirits, but very little experience. The hell that had been suffered by both sides of the battle was represented in the hundreds that lay dead on the field and the hundreds that lay in the field hospitals.

One in particular of the Imperial soldiers, a young nineteen year-old private, Gordon Swanson, lay behind one of the long mine stonewalls. Gordon was not quite physically wounded, but had the wear of fighting in a battle. His best, and really only friend in the world, Lloyd Craine, was, as always, along his side. The two had joined the service together, but it was Lloyd who was certainly the one who had the higher level of excitement for the war.

Gordon was quite the passive person and not aggressive by any means. But now great changes had occurred in the times for which he lived, a great war had swept him and his friend into its tornado of turmoil and despair. The dark clouds of war had begun to hang over them and no one could have imagined that the storm would last as long as it did. This day, Gordon and Lloyd had been in real combat for only one battle and had already seen horrors no man was ever supposed to witness. They, like most of the soldiers around them, were young. Young, naïve, and not yet ready to die.

It was cold on the ground where they laid. A kind of cold that chilled all the way into the core of their bodies -- a cold Gordon never knew existed. He looked over at his friend, Lloyd, whose face was only illuminated by the half moon that was fixed in the eastern sky.

“This is a hell of a lot more than I thought,” Lloyd whispered to him. “Even I gotta bit scared on that one. The Rebs is a bit more than I thoud’ ‘dey migh’ be.”

“Lloyd,” Gordon looked at his brown eyes. “This has been so absurd. Now I am not gonna kill myself so Maderic can keep the Rebs under his control. This is ridiculous.”

“We won’t be dying. Those sons of bitches canta’ hit a stump with a shotgun,” Lloyd tried to lighten his friend’s spirit.

“They shot’a enough of our boys already,” Gordon said, as his eyes darted back to the battlefield. “This is all his fault.”

“You listen ta’ me,” Lloyd spoke up a bit. “You don’t be bringin’ your old man into this now. He put 'ya into the service for a reason.”

“Why?” Gordon growled at him. “So I can be’a God damn hero like him? He thinks ‘cause he is a commanding officer, and holds that ring-knocker* status, that I want to be the same way. You know I am not military material.”

“I know, Gordon,” Lloyd snapped back the response. “But this migh’d have somethin’ to do with Katie.”

Gordon looked away at the sound of his girlfriend’s name. “I miss her, I will not lie about that. But she is what gets me through this war. It hardly matters; my father will never allow me to wed her. Our fathers are enemies, and neither would ever agree to a wedding.”

“Forget all of that, Gordon,” Lloyd tried to give him a reassuring smile. “All 'ya have 'ta think 'a now, is gettin' through this war 'live.”

The moon and the stars glowed down at them from the heavens above. Looking at them, the two desperately tried to forget the war and the future. Gordon striated his legs and layed his head back upon the stock of his M-16A2, and slept.

The Zoogie People
20-08-2004, 22:53
I'll be out for a few days, maybe a week. Maybe less, maybe more. I don't really know at the moment, but anyways...

The roar of jet engines engulfed the air at a remote air base in Colerican territory. It was dusk and darkening fast, and the runway lights already lit up the airstrip, guiding the Zoogie fighters into the sky and back home.

A large air force presence had been building up in the past few weeks here, for a strike at Bakac's fuel reserves. Cutting off the fuel supply to the rebels would be vital to the war effort, and more importantly, capturing these would provide the coalition with much-needed oil.

For that, they had to move fast: the rebels would no doubt burn their supplies rather than allow the enemy to take over them.

The operation began as the last rays of the sun receded below the skyline, the dull clouds in the west only dimly highlighted by red hue. Squadrons of ZaS-27 Firebirds took to the skies for air superiority, tracking and hunting down whatever rebellian air units there were in the area without being seen. The new Mark II prototypes were among the scores of fighters included in the effort, with new and extensive upgrades. The air cover was only a small part of the operation, however: ZaS-42s silently flew deep beyond enemy lines to strike in rapid succession at key rebel targets in the area such as C&Cs, hardened supply shelters, air defenses and bases, bridges, actual military camps, and supply lines, to name a few.

Yet the purpose of that was secondary to the primary objective as well: it would serve to disrupt the command, logistics, and communications of the rebels, and certainly their ability to fight back, but this was for the primary purpose of facilitating the ground effort.

Ten C-240 Mark Ia aircraft, part of the highly secretive Tagyr squadron, were prepped at the airbase as they readied themselves to be taxied onto the runways. The more silent, stealthy, advanced, and dreadfully more costly variants of the C-240 standard cargo were filled with soldiers, to the tune of some a hundred and ten or so each. The cargoes would airdrop the crack units to aid in a land effort that would be deployed via other means as well.

Other C-240 aircraft were in service dropping tanks and armoured vehicles into the area, as armoured batallions stormed across the plains. Mi-24 helicopters accompanied them, laden with marines and spec-ops, all in the effort of capturing the oil reserves. It was the largest Zoogiedom land operation in an era, and one of the largest military operations as well.

Cruise missile platforms already in the air were given the go-ahead to unleash their fury at the rebels. Some twenty-aircraft, laden with forty cruise missiles each, launched their arsenal at rebellion military units and bases all throughout the region.

Meanwhile, B-2 bombers were being readied to take to the skies, patrolling at high altitudes, ready to drop down and carpet bomb anything that stood in the way of the operation.

Gordon woke suddenly to the cruel thundering sound of nearby cannon fire. His eyes opened to the sight of his fellow men running all around him. Lloyd quickly shook his shoulder and pulled his M-16 out from under his head.

“Gordon!” Lloyd cried. “Ged’ up, the Rebs are startin’ to shell us.”

Gordon leaped to his feet and peered over the mossy stonewall. From there he could see out to the field beyond and the long line of Confederate forces. Smoke billowed from the mouths of the guns, accompanied with the familiar horizontal flashes of explosion.

“God damned old hell,” Gordon whispered to himself.

Out of nowhere another wave of artillery fire bombarded the wall. The sound of man-made thunder rumbled through Gordon and Lloyd as they dove for cover behind the wall. Lloyd looked to his left to see a few of his fellow soldiers get blasted from the ground; their bodies flew like pieces of discarded wood to their final destination.

An older, bearded man came racing up along side the wall too Gordon and Lloyd. They immediately recognized the man as Lieutenant Solomon Benison; a well regarded man who had fought bravely in Isla De Plata.

“Swanson, Craine, your asses are ‘gonna get blasted. These Rebs are not playin’ no more,” the Lieutenant said coarsely. “They’ve hit us hard and I need some men to help get our artillery ready.”

“We are right behind ‘ya,” Lloyd said, nodding his head.

The two men got to their feet and began to follow Benison along side the wall. More shells were striking the ground behind the wall, throwing dirt, debris, and body parts into the air all around them. Benison turned back to look at Gordon and Lloyd, pointing his finger toward the Imperial artillery.

“We’re still behind you!” Gordon called out over the sound of the Rebel cannons.

Benison quickly nodded in response. “Good, we just have to—.” The two you men watched as suddenly Benison was cut in half by a Rebel shell, which whistled past them. His dismembered body fell in a heap and peppered both men in the Lieutenant’s blood. Gordon and Lloyd were blown off their feet by the blast and fell down on the edge of the now crumbling wall.

“Jesus Christ,” Lloyd murmured.

Lloyd turned in order to get back to his feet and realized he was lying on several Imperial bodies. Their blank stares, from liquid-looking eyes looked transfixed upward at him. Gordon tried not to allow himself to look downward to see what he was fallen upon, but he knew it was his own company, also. His left hand was lying inside a pool of blood and a man’s intestines. Lloyd leaped to his feet, after shaking off the sting of the shock wave that had blown him over and he helped his friend up to his feet. They quickly looked over the wall to see a massive wave of Confederate soldiers attempting to storm the wall.

“Shoot 'em! Shoot those bastards!” Lloyd called.

Lloyd and Gordon raised their M-16’s, took aim at the swarm of men, and shot several times into the crowd of men. There were so many bullets in the air, that the two men could actually see them, like dark rain of lead. The battle continued as wave after wave of Confederate soldiers fell attempting to storm the wall. Gordon, Lloyd and their fellow soldiers fought bravely, but also suffered unimaginable casualties. The two men had helped others move the artillery into position and with them were able to cut down the Rebel advance.

“Were given ’em hell now,” Lloyd told Gordon as he reloaded.

A tall, red-haired comrade, about their age, was manning a fifty caliber machine gun next to them. Gordon noticed that shrapnel had severally lacerated the man’s hand.

“Here,” Gordon said, giving a rag to the man. “Use this for your hand.”

Just as Gordon was handing him the rag the man was shot in the throat. He collapsed forward into Gordon’s arms, gasping for air and blood skirting from his neck. Gordon laid him down and tried desperately to stop the bleeding with the rag, but there was too much blood.

“Forget him!” called a man along side of him. “He’s as good as dead.”

The man was clenching Gordon’s arm so hard that it was hurting him. He mouthed a few silent words to Gordon with blood running from his mouth, and then he died. Gordon had never felt so confused in his life. He looked around him at all of the misery and death that was this God-forsaken war.

Why? He thought. How could people do this to one another?

“Gordon!” Lloyd yelled over the gunfire. “Gordon, ‘ya have to get back up here and fight.”

Suddenly more Confederate gunfire swept past the wall and Lloyd felt a sharp sting into his left shoulder. He quickly ducked behind the wall and felt the back of his shoulder.

“Fuck!” Lloyd yelled, looking at the blood on his hand. “Fuck! Gordon, I am fuckin’ hit.”

“It’s alright,” Gordon quickly glanced down at the wound. “You will be fine, we can get you to the hospital.”

“I ain’t going ‘ta no damn hospital,” Lloyd responded, shaking his head. “They butcher people in there.”

“Lloyd, shut up,” Gordon replied.

IC:

The Confederate forces all around Bakac were in chaos. Command and control had gone to hell after the impressive showing of the Zoogie military's strength. The Confederate air strength that was in the area was completely gone. The Zoogies had blown apart command centers, troop barricks, armories, and armor pens. Pockets of CSNC forces were scattered all throughout the city, but were cut off from their commanders and any other support. Things looked grim.

CSNC Lt. Victor Kane was worn out from the war already. The lack of support by the nonshalant war effort among the Confederate government was showing. Bakac was an embarrassment to hte the Confederates. What the Rebel commanders had thought as a hardened defense post had been reduced to rubble by the Zoogie forces. Zoogie armor had been reported to be landing all around the city. Kane belonged to a group of four thousand soldiers. Simply because of the rag-tag Rebel army, they were mixed-in with many different types of forces. They had limited armor and most soldiers carried different firearms, which made swapping ammo hard amongst the troops. Kane, himself, was armed with an AK-47 and a Colt 1911 pistol.

It would be a race to the oil reserves.
The Zoogie People
06-09-2004, 20:45
It was a gruelling night of warfare for Lt. Cormack, one of the marines sent in to fight at Bakac. Even as the organized might of the units there smashed through the defenses, the battle was hardly won. The objective had not been acheived, and casualties were piling.

"The oil reserves!" ordered a captain nearby. "Get it before they do!"

The left armoured flank acted in unison, and immediately soldiers and vehicles began to race towards the destination. Tank cannon fire was near constant, but the Confederates were still very much alive. Fighting a defensive war was easier, and all they desired was to [OOC: I think?] torch the reserves. Torch the reserves, and the mission would be a failure. How long could an advance operation hold out? It would force military command to do what they were most reluctant to do - launch a full-fledged campaign in the region, turning the entire area into wastelands of war.

"God, but these Confeds don't stop," he thought bitterly.

--

Squadrons of Mil-24 aircraft were in the same theatre, carrying their load of soldiers into the area and strafing the rebels with rocket fire and 30-mm cannon rounds. The Zoogie forces were advancing, but not quickly enough.

"There it is!"

The oil reserves had been spotted, and the Confederates were drawing closer. Several RAH-66 helicopters moved closer, lighting up the night with cannon fire. One of them exploded unexpectedly as a shoulder launched SAM took it out; it was soon followed by another. The ground forces quickly moved to try and take out the units, and they poured enough firepower to force a retreat - temporarily.

One of the Mil-24s began to rapid-fire its rocket pods arsenal into the Confederate area, but missed wildly. Some rockets struck harmlessly into the ground, and only a few hit paydirt. Turbulence from nearby helicopter rotors unexpectedly threw the big helicopter into an unsteady half-roll, and the last of the rockets careened off course...striking several oil tanks.

"Oh, bloody hell," radioed the pilot, watching as two bursts of fire erupted into the night sky.

Ridium is situated directly on the coast, so Imperial Marines landed on the beaches, while the CSS Tyrant, CSS Phantom, and the CSS Apparition pounded away at ground targets from their spots in the sea. The month-long battle raged on until the UEC finally took control of the city and General Hall’s forces fled.

Imperial Causalities: 3,243 dead; 7,324 wounded; 542 captured/MIA
Confederate Causalities: 4,542 dead; 8,454 wounded; 454 captured/MIA
Results: Warner’s plans, directly from Tetarinn, were to invade the Colerican state of Renna. Kyriakis was told to hold them off at all costs. Outnumbered and outgunned, Kyriakis had no choice but to retreat from his position at Blue Falls. Warner marched on. His intended destination -- Zachara, the capital of the United Empire.

Confederate Causalities: 4,042 dead; 7,531 wounded; 233 captured/MIA
Results: A few short weeks after his defeat at Keyd Junction, Xev reorganized his forces for the defense of Gressville, only ten miles from the Renna/Kurono border. Warner’s forces arrived with heavy Confederate airpower. In the chaos that ensued, Xev lost two-thirds of his force and surrendered to Warner. Warner had carved through the UEC state of Renna in a matter of weeks and was now advancing to Kurono, the state that held the Imperial capital, Zachara.

IC: Hundreds of tank and some Maser engines began roaring into action as they began their race towards the Deviso state capitol. They were followed by 1,000s of soldiers racing behind them burning everything in their path. Their orders were to lay siege to the state capitol, burn everything in their path, and kill all that resissted them. They were going to teach the people of New Colerica the meaning of total war.

OOC: This is Colerica, using the New Colerica account. Since my friend bailed on me because of college lagging him down, I'm taking over as the Rebs....is that okay with ya'll?

IC:

Confederate control of the war was waning. This was hell. On one hand, General Warner had the Imperials running for their lives on his route to Zachara. On the other hand, Deviso looked as though it would fall. The Zoogies had waged war in Bakac, igniting the oil reserves. The Imperials had been waging several small battles across the state. And the Tomzillians were on an all-out path of destruction, heading towards Zeq, hell-bent on taking the city and killing everyone on their way there.

General Tetarinn stood amongst his staff. The room of officers looked tired, worried, and frustrated. The officer corps argued among themselves.

"We're losing this war!" a general shouted.

"No we're not. Warner will save us. He's our greatest hope for success. He will prevail!" another shouted back.

"He'll never make it to Zachara. The Imperials will surround him and slaughter his men. It'll be a blood bath!" the general retorted.

"Silence," Tetarinn said with a wave of his hands. "We're in dire straights and the war could definitely be going better. However, have faith in Warner's abilities. He will prevail. We'll sack the Imperial capital and end this war. Only then will our cause of freedom be recognized by the world," he stated.

"But Warner can't win. He's impossibly outnumbered," the general replied.

Without saying a word, Tetarinn drew his pistol and fired three rounds into the other general. His dead body fell to the floor. "We don't have room for that kind of negative outlook in my military. We will prevail." The other officers were shocked by the shooting of the general and they held their attention close to Tetarinn as he continued. "When Warner reaches Zachara, he will bring an end to this war once and for all. By siezing the Imperial capital, the war will end. We'll force a treaty or we'll burn it [Zachara] to the ground. Kally is my home. I will die for my home."

"What about the Tomzillians?" a Lieutenant asked.

"They're violating the rules of modern warfare. They're war criminals and the Principle Director is working hard to get the message out to the rest of the world. Perhaps then, we can get other nations to condemn these henious crimes against humanity," Tetarinn answered. "In the meantime, we've got General Cameron Sharpe to defend Zeq. He's got a force of nearly thirty thousand strong under his command. It should be plenty enough men to deal with the Tomzillians."

Imperial Causalities: 9,233 dead; 12,451 wounded; 1,135 captured/MIA
Confederate Causalities: 923 dead; 4,432 wounded; 4 captured/MIA
Results: Warner’s push to Zachara was gaining great ground after repeated victories at Blue Falls, Keyd Junction, and Gressville. Despite the draw at Villis Points, Warner was looking prime to pounce on the Imperial capital. Colericans nationwide awaited the results of the battle at Desare; only forty-four miles from Zachara. Warner pummeled Lt. General Gaiers’ forces and trounced yet another Imperial effort to stop the Confederate advance. A sweeping victory for Warner and it is considered the Confederacy’s finest hour.

Confederate Causalities: 22,134 dead; 14,134 wounded; 8,232 captured/MIA
Results: Furious at the past failures to subdue Warner’s advance to Zachara, UEC Five-Star General Azben Koren ordered Maj. General Roderick Adline to obliterate Warner’s forces in a climatic battle on Kurono soil. Adline chose the hills near the town of Rallen, only eleven miles from Zachara, for his offensive. Working with General Sicoro, Adline intercepted Warner’s forces as they made they were through Rallen. Adline and Sicoro trapped Warner in a cross-fire and an eight-day battle ensued. Tens of thousands on both sides fell. On the seventh night of the battle, Warner was killed by his own men, either on accident or on purpose. With no commander and over ninety percent of their men killed, the remaining Confederates fled for their lives. Julius Durendus showed the message to his fellow officers. "They have chosen death it seems" he said.

"What shall I tell my men? What are we to do?" asked Lt. General Kiyru Rankerd.

Julius hesitated for a moment before saying "Tell them to take every howitzer, every artillery gun, and every Maser we have and tell them to open fire on the city. Because of their rejection, they shall have death rained down on their heads. Destroy every building within range. The people might rise up against their leaders when they see the destruction happening."

His officers left to return to their men. Julius was in deep meditation when the guns began to fire and the Masers fired their blue lightening-like streaks of death towards the city.

"That city has payed its life because it didn't surrender" he whispered quietly to himself.

Colerican Central Command -- Zachara

Five-Star General Azben Koren paced the room. Officers of all rank and fashion in the Imperial military stood around him, talking amongst themselves.

"With news of the Tomzillians bombaring Zeq, we should expect a surrender from the Confederates in the city soon enough. They can't hold out forever," a general declared.

"This is true. But should Tomzilla really be aiming to kill as many civillians as possible?" a lieutenant questioned.

"Yes. The Rebs asked for war and we're giving them more war than they can possibly handle," another general answered.

Koren turned his head. "Total war is the name of the game. The Rebels started this and we're going to finish it. By any means necessary."

"When are we going to start for Medaak, the capital of the Confederacy?" a colonel asked from behind the crowd.

"We're going to await the results of our actions in Jaxuum's capital of Arceci before we launch any campaigns into Kally. Once we have Arceci taken, we are free to move to Medaak. We will capture Medaak and this pitiful insurrection will be at an end," Koren explained. "I've already discussed it with the Emperor. We will amass ninety thousand strong to sweep through Jaxuum and into Kally. Then, we'll take the Confederate's capital and this rebellion will be over."

A cheer went up from the crowd. Koren continued.

"Our tacticians suggest that Belser will fall to us in a few days. Since we have had control of their capital, we've expanded our control throughout the state and the state's militias are not enough to combat our superior forces. The same will soon happen in Kardu now that Quellis has fallen."

General Julius Durendus looked at the city that was once called Zeq. It had been decimated by the un-ending artillery fire. "Stop the bombardment!" he ordered to his officers. "Tell the other officers to have their men move into the city. Shoot anyone that resists." "Yes General" was the answer to his command. He watched as the thousands of troops started marching towards the city. The city itself was about 2/3s leveled. He wondered if this would bring an end to the rebellion. "Get me a connection to Air General Tomoyuki. Tell him to take all his B-52s and B-2s stationed in Colerica and smash the rebels capital of Meddak." he yelled at his men. They relayed the message to General Tomoyuki who followed it precisly and began the air attack.

Confederate Central Command -- Medaak

General Kayne Tetarrin's face showed the urgency of the situation that he was in. His army was losing battle after battle since the defeat of Rison Warner. The Confederates had came so close to ending the war, but fell so sharply, so quickly. Tetarinn knew that the end would be near. The Tomzillians had decimated Zeq. Loros, Belser, and Kardu had fallen to the United Empire. The state government in Jaxuum was considering surrendering. Ruraq Kylaer, the leader of the Confederacy, was nowhere to be found. Imperial troops were knocking on the door of Zeq and several air raids -- by both Tomzilla and the UEC -- had already taken place. This was the end of the line.

Before him stood the remains of his once-proud Confederate officer corps. Their numbers had significantly dwindled, either through death or desertion. All of them knew that the war would soon be over. So many New Colericans had given their lives for freedom. So many had so much hope to win. All hope for freedom was now over in New Colerica. The war was drawing to a close.

"When do you think Maderic will do us in?" a Lt. General asked.

"Whenever he feels like it. We're the last major hold-out. When Medaak goes; the Confederacy goes and all of our wishes for independance with it," another answered.

Tetarinn spoke up. "All of you have come to know me and I've had the great distinction of serving with some of the finest men I've ever met. My only regret is that we cannot claim victory. Our noble wishes for freedom from the statist Imperials have come to an end. I thank all of you -- and all of those who have fallen in combat -- for the great honor of serving under me."

A rousing cheer went up from the officer ranks. Tetarinn saluted his officer corps and retired to his chamber. He knew, at long last, this war was over. The Confederacy had lost. It was only a matter of having the appropriate papers signed now and this most bloody affair would draw to a close.

Emperor's throne room -- Imperial Palace -- Zachara, Kurono, UEC

The Emperor of the United Empire of Colerica, Maderic Thra, stood in his chamber before a small gathering of his tacticians and close advisors. Among them was Jackson Prospero. A younger, often over-looked member of the Imperial Court, Prospero was considered a rising star in the Imperial palace. He was someone Maderic trusted. That alone was a rare characteristic, as the Emperor trusted very few.

"Emperor," Prospero began, "General Koren says that the war is drawing to its long-awaited end. We are on the doorsteps of Medaak and the city will soon fall."

"I'm aware of that, Prospero," Maderic stated. "I'm aware of all of it. However," he began, "inform General Koren of my plan for Medaak. The rebellion will be crushed in one single stroke of war."

Prospero looked confused. "A new plan for Medaak?"

"I've instructed Admiral McCallum to destroy Medaak with all the firepower of the Imperial Navy. He has amassed a fleet of our largest ships -- Tyrant-class battleships -- to level the city. The rebellion cannot withstand firepowr of that magnitude," Maderic enlightened his top advisor.

"I see," Prospero said discontented. Maderic sensed his conflicting emotions.

"End the conflict in your heart, Prospero. I'm aware of your personal ties to Medaak, but they are over now. You belong to the United Empire," Thra said.

"How can I simply forget about my wife and two daughters? They live in Medaak. I can't simply let them die," Prospero replied.

"You can and you will," Maderic snapped. "By siding with the Rebels, your family no longer has any meaning to you. You've said that yourself. They've damned themselves by remaining in Medaak. Soon, they -- along with the Confederacy -- will die."

Prospero stared at the floor. "Yes, Your Excellency. Soon, they will die. You are correct. My wife and children no longer matter. They are traitors. They deserve to die a traitor's death."

"Good, good," Maderic responded.

"However, the Rebellion will not completely die until Ruraq Kylaer is killed," Prospero stated.

"This is true. Should Kylaer remain in Medaak, he, along with everyone else there, will die a fiery death. Should he flee Medaak, Michael Sykes and Mercer will hunt him down and kill him," Maderic said.

The names were very familiar with Prospero. Michael Sykes was a freelance assassin -- perhaps, the best in the business -- that had been employed by the United Empire to do as the Emperor wished. Mercer, on the other hand, was much more mysterious figure. Few knew his real name or even knew if he existed. However, Mercer was the best-trained soldier in the UEC. He was the elite of the elite. When there were secret missions that needed to be run, Mercer was the operative they called on. He was the black ops agent of black ops agents. No one accomplished a mission better or more efficient than Mercer. His present involvement in the UEC was uncertain to Prospero, but he knew that he [Mercer] was a CIIA agent; black on black. Mercer was almost a mythical figure among the UEC gov't. Some kind of spectral boogieman you feared would cut you down at night if you weren't working to the best of your abilities.

"Praise the Imperator," Prospero said, as he raised his hand -- palm flat, arm slanted at a forty-five degree angle -- to salute Emperor Thra.

The others in the throne room joined Prospero in his salute to the Emperor.

Medaak lay in ruins. The city was destroyed. Fires raged and more than eighty percent of the city had been levelled in the attack. What happened? The Imperial Navy bombarded the city with incinderary shells, setting the Confederate capital ablaze and killing countless. It was a harsh order to deliver, McCallum thought, but it was incredibly effective. The state of Jaxuum had surrendered. Kally would soon surrender, too, and the rebellion would be over.

Rumors were flying that Kayne Tetarinn had committed suicide, but nothing could be certain untill the Colericans had men on the ground in Medaak to round up every last Rebel soldier. Then the war would finally be over.

I'm Kathren Movan, of the Colerican Imperial News network. Today, sirens and alarms blared throughout the United Empire of Colerica. At long last, the Colerican Civil War was over. An official surrender treaty -- signed by remaining survivors of the Confederate government -- was drawn up and signed. The Confederacy ceases to exist, by terms of the treaty, and the United Empire is now whole again.

Today, officially marked as Re-Unification Day, has been celebrated throughout the UEC with fireworks and dances. Such celebrations are usually reserved for Imperator Day (the Emperor's birthday; March 4th) or the Colerican Independance Day (December 11th), however, as a result of the end of the bloodshed, the fatigued nation is happy to finally have the war over with.

As part of the surrender treaty that was signed, Lieutenant Emperor Pro Tempor, Kircer Danton -- nephew of our beloved Emperor -- has been placed in command as Viceroy of all of the former Confederate states. All Confederate soldiers are to be "severely punished" for their treason. All ranking leaders in the ex-Confederacy are to be hunted down, arrested, trialed, and hung for treason. Anyone caught helping ex-Confederates will be treated the same.

Kressi Thra, Magistrate of State, released this statement:

After so much blood and so many tears from broken homes, this vile civil strife is finally over. All of Colerica has longed for this day since the war began and now we have finally come to see it fulfilled. Under the great wartime leadership of Emperor Thra, my beloved older brother, the United Empire has come out of this civil war stronger and more unified than we were prior.

Dev SigNar, Magistrate of Internal Affairs, said in his address to the Imperial Court:

We, as Colericans, can finally rest safely at night. We are no longer at war. The days of Colericans killing Colericans are over.

Astaron Tyrannus, a prominant Imperial senator and reverred member of the Imperial Court, said this in his address to the body:

We have waited and waited for this day. The war has tested our resolve. It has tested our character. It has tested our unity as a nation. I am glad to say that we have passed all of those tests with flying colors.

The Emperor is expected to deliver a speech some time later tonight. We will, of course, be sure to cover it.

OOC: A couple of things to make note of. The Imperial Court is about as much of a Senate as my nation has. It is a gathered group of dignified men and women in the United Empire who speak on varying issues and advise the Emperor. They suggest laws and vote on them, however, the Emperor has the final word on any law and he has the final word on the use of military force for whatever reason he wants.

Secondly, yes, I know, I stole the images of Coruscant and Tyranus from Star Wars. I'm unoriginal in that respect. Sue me. :) (Lucasfilm, that 'sue me' comment isn't serious....;) )
