The Wettic Military (future tech) [16/7]
OOC: I already made this post long before the move to jolt but it seems to be gone and I had a lot of things to add so here is the new and improved catalogue of Wettic military equipement.

Helios class fighter

The Hyperion was getting outdated fast with its antiquated electronics, sub-standard weaponry and minimal defenses. This has all been corrected in the Helios. It's fuselage is a radical departure from the Hyperion in many ways. It isn't as manoeuvrable in space as it is in an atmosphere but it is faster and it can accelerate faster.
This fighter also sacrifices armour for a shield generator giving it more protection and making it lighter. It is piloted partly through a neural interface speeding up response time. It also has the ability to put its pilot in hibernation giving it the capacity to extend the range it can travel.
The weaponry has changed much as well, the triple barreled plasma cannon has been replaced with three slightly weaker cannons which can fire much faster then the one one the Hyperion. It can carry a lot more missiles which pack a much bigger punch.
The most significant improvement is the capability to carry pods which will allow the Helios to carry out several tasks which the Hyperion couldn't. From electronic warfare to advanced scout, it can do it all. The countermeasures pod is meant to provide additional protection against a missile attack on the capital ships during a fleet action.
All of this is regulated by a qucomp but it does lack the Agatha sensor array unless it has the scout pod. Instead it has sensors that can only scan the entire EM band as well as an active/passive tachyon sonar.

As Wettic trade grew so did it expand. Although the navy kept patrolling and escorting commercial shipping inside Wettic space, they were on their own as soon as they left it. Because this was hindering the growth of our export, companies clamoured that they be allowed to purchase obsolete naval ships to guard their own or to arm them. The Admiralty however was not in favour of giving them their retired ships since these still had their military grade technology on board. Not to mention that one of them could be mistaken for a navy ship and cause all kinds of diplomatic incidents.
Instead, Griffin Industries was asked to develop a merchant ship that would be capable of fighting of any pirate attack. The Wettic navy decided to share some of their own technologies like the plasma cannon, countermeasures system, qucomp and most importantly Astorium armour. Although not capable of polarisation, it still gives it a fighting chance against any pirate vessel the navy has come across.
“Accumulator” shielding technology was not provided so instead a much improved version of the electromagnetic shield used on the Mercury was installed. The reactor works on antimatter and it is also provided with surplus antimatter missiles left after the navy switched to ZPE warheads. The countermeasures system isn’t as precise as the navy’s because the ship lacks an AI or an Agatha sensor array. Instead, a much more powerful version of the sensors used in the Helios are used. Because of this and the lack of an “Accumulator” shield, the ship was given far more launchers and decoys then a navy ship of that size would have.
The cargo holds and engines of the Elephant have an extra meter of armour to ensure that the ship can still run away if things get too though with it’s cargo safe. The crew is larger because without an AI the crew is solely responsible for maintaining the systems.

The Rhino is a modified Elephant intended for deep space mining operations. It lacks the nose plasma turret, forward cargo holds and torpedo tubes to make room for a smelter, a giant electromagnetic tractor beam emitter and a nose that can open up.
The idea is that the ship uses it's side plasma cannon along with mining charges to cut up an asteroid into chunks. The ones rich in metals will be pulled in by the electromagnetic tractor beam after the forward section of the ship opens it up. The onboard smelter allows the ship to refine it on the spot so that it only stores purified metals which makes it possible to mine more before their holds are filled.

This is the flagship of the Wettic navy and it is a beast. She carries the same amount of soldiers and equipment as four Jupiter C battleships and almost as many fighters. Her defensive and offensive capabilities are even more awe inspiring and that is what this ship was designed to do. Not so much a flexible weapon as one that simply intimidates the enemy and hopefully make it surrender before firing a shot. But if anybody is foolish enough to take the Dreadnought on, she can take a lot and dish out even more.
She has a plethora of weapons and even carries 6 Ripper beam emitters of which 4 are located in the prongs on the front of the ship. Those prongs carry many of the weapons of the front section of the ship to make room for the fighters, dropships and the marines with their equipment that are all housed there. The bridge like structure between the prongs is actually the largest and most sophisticated Agatha sensor array in existence capable of scanning multiple sectors. The mid-section has one Ripper beam on either side and houses two of the ZPE cores along with the housing for the crew and the bridge.
The aft section houses the warp nacelles, reactionless drives and the jumpengines as well as four ZPE cores. These are all located in the aft prongs because the main body of this part of the ship is reserved for an unprecedented facility onboard a Wettic ship. An internal docking facility capable of servicing starships. Its not big enough to house anything longer then a kilometre but most Wettic ships aren’t that big. It is this capability more then any other that makes this ship the through heart of any battlefleet.
There are of course weaknesses in the design. For one, at sublight speeds she is slower then any other ship in the Wettic navy. Manoeuvrability is poor as can be expected from a ship this big and because of its size two shield generators were needed to cover the entire ship. These two shields meet at the midsection and it is there that shield strength drops to 50% even after being fully charged. The Agatha sensor array does have its own shielding so that the ship wouldn’t be blinded so easily but even then, the placing is rather precarious.

In the last war with the Shivans it became clear that the Ironclad was outdated and no longer capable of performing its task. So a contract was put up to design a new gunship and this was the result. The hull was acquired from Skeelzania who designed it specifically for us although it is now also in use in their space navy.
Like any other capital ship it has a third generation AI, a qucomp and an Agatha sensor array but it is also capable of FTL communications. Now finally it can become the eyes and ears of the fleet but also provide antifighter and antimissile cover for the larger ships with its twin laser turrets and missiles. If a capital ship should try something, it can attack with its 24 ZPE missiles which produce a blast of 150 megatons.

In the war with the Shivans it became clear that the Jupiter B although very impressive and capable couldn’t be produced in high enough numbers to protect the Confederacy. Because of that, an order was placed for a ship of no more then a 1000 meters long, capable of carrying a few fighters and acting as a pocket battleship. The result was the Saturn.
It has regenerative shielding thanks to the fact that it is outfitted with 2 generators. When the first one fails, the second takes over while the first one regenerates. Of course this is only of limited use but it will increase its survivability considerably. It’s offensive capabilities are far greater then the Mars thanks to advances in weapons and space-time research. The zero-point energy core and missiles for example means that the Saturn isn’t relying on massive quantities of antimatter that are difficult to store and can become a hazard when the ship takes a lot of damage. They also give the Saturn a lot more (fire)power, in the form of missiles that are propelled by a reactionless drive giving the missile a speed of 0.6c making it very hard for antimissile systems to take them out.
The phased particle beam arrays are another stride forward. Capable of carving through the armour of an unshielded Jupiter B, this ship can stand toe to toe with almost any battleship that is making the spacelanes unsafe. It also has a complement of fighter-drones to aide its fighters in combat although these drones can also be outfitted with a sensor package or a communications array in place of its weapon.
Another addition are jumpengines, which are still a little unreliable. After taking extensive readings in hyperspace itself as well as when a jumppoint is opened Wettic scientists finally learned what was necessary to open a jumppoint and managed to construct a machine to do just that. What is also remarkable is that every Saturn will be equipped with an FTL communications array. Before this only the Jupiters and the ships bought from Corpsac were equipped with this while smaller ships had to rely on couriers to transmit messages over longer distances.

When construction of the Zeus began it was already clear that the ship was both to big and to expensive to built a lot of them and so a new design was ordered that would be capable of carrying the Ripper beam but wouldn’t be too expensive. The Pluto class was the result of this and at first it seemed to be perfect.
It has 2 Ripper beams instead of one and thanks to experience that was gained with the construction of the Zeus these emitters were far more reliable. It was also a lot smaller cutting the time that was required for its construction and improving manoeuvrability which was very good considering the emitters were still fixed.
But there were also a lot of problems with the design. Because of the immense power the emitters would need the ship had only been equipped with 16 missile tubes with only 32 missiles because of space restrictions and the shield is rather weak for a ship of this size. The Ripper beams itself only have a short range making it necessary to approach the target to within 50.000 kilometers.
It was hoped these shortcomings would be remedied by using XAstorium for armour instead of Astorium. XAstorium was a further development of the Astorium armour and is capable of scattering rather then deflecting a staggering 80% of all the energy directed against it but it looses this trait when the armour is too tick and the refining process is very expensive making it impossible to be used in a ship larger then this one. This scattering effect gives it a stealth ability that would allow it to sneak up to an enemy and then attack it when it is too late.
This ability is enhanced further by the addition of an experimental cloak, which creates a bubble around the ship that bends everything around the ship including gravity and light, but this also plays havoc with its own sensors. This was remedied again by giving it a very large Agatha sensor array that would be used in the explorer ship that is still under development.
Even so, when it is cloaked it can only detect anything that is 4 light hours away and it is blind beyond that which means that it will only use the cloak to reach a predetermined spot from where it can strike its target.
But all of this made the ship terribly expensive and up to now only the prototype has been made although there are still plans to make an additional 7 which would be used to combat the Shivan threat but also to harass commercial shipping and supply lines of an enemy.

At the moment Wetland is only capable of supporting three of these ships. It was designed to combat the Shivan threat and like all other new designs it incorporates several new technologies. The plasma cannons although not entirely new are far more powerful then the particle cannons used on the Mars or Ironclad.
But the most powerful weapon is on the front between the two fighter decks. It was developed with help from Jordaxian scientists and is called a Ripper beam. A Ripper beam works by creating a rift from where the weapon is fired, to the desired target, whereby range is not an issue. This rift connects to the anti-matter plane, causing a violent explosion whenever the beam comes in contact with matter as the matter and antimatter are annihilated accompanied by a large release of energy. Most shields would not stop it as the beam itself is merely a rent in the fabric of space-time which most shields do not affect. Even the shields of the Luciferius are believed to be vulnerable to this weapon. Its major downside is the rather large amount of time it takes to charge, due to the amount of energy required but this is countered by the fact that the beam can travel faster then light because of the principle that space can travel faster then light.
It also has a lot more armour then any other ship in use by the Wettic navy and it can carry 400 fighters and their pilots making this a formidable craft. 10.2 meters of Astorium provides protection from almost any weapon encountered so far by Wetland and it can be polarised to offer more protection. But this is not the first line of defense because thanks to the our good ally Central Facehuggeria the Zeus will be equipped with their "Accumulator" shield technology making this ship a very though nut to crack.
After the first encounters with the Shivan however several weaknesses were identified. The aft section wasn't protected enough, it had several blind spots and it lacked a good defense against a barrage of missiles.
Because of this, 2 more turrets were added, the aft section got its own missile battery and decoy launchers were added to give the ship more staying power. These changes will be retrofitted to the Zeus after the conflict and also in all future Jupiters.

This is another version of the Jupiter and this one is meant to attack planets. It carries the troops and fighters necessary for this but it also has modified weapons systems capable of bombarding the surface of a planet with them. The rail cannon for example fires a special round of which the ship carries 20. They are spheres with a diameter of 30 meters and consist of a layer of ceramic tiles, then a meter thick layer of titanium and then followed by a core of lead.
The plasma cannons aren't as strong as the ones on the Jupiter B and they take longer to fire but they have a far stronger magnetic containement field allowing the bolts to reach the surface of the planet. Of course it can still hold its own in a fight but it is to be escorted by a fleet at all times and also escorted by another battleship as well.

Using many of the technologies already used in the Rihorn this fighter was designed to be carried by the Jupiter class battleships. It has air foils attached to the engines giving it a good perfomance in an atmosphere as well as in space. Its first duty is to provide the fleet with the means to combat enemy fighters but it also has the capacity to damage enemy ships. It has normal sensors and a simple sicomp instead of a quantum one.

This ship still uses the hull of the old Mars but the systems of this ship are very different. The most obvious addition are the 2 drone launchers on either side of the ship. Behind them are large cilinders holding 8 drones which can be launched rapidly. It also has 2 decoy launchers to provide additional missile defense and has improved engines and power core. It also has a third generation Agatha sensor array while the Astorium used as armour now has polarisation capacity and the plates are fused together with a new technic that has been developed which effectively makes the armour one piece. Of course the costs are a bit higher but we have stopped with the production of Mars A destroyers and we can alter the ones currently in construction to the specs of the Mars B. This will alleviate some of the pressure on the defense budget.

Anti-matter missiles
Already planned for the Ironclad, but due to limited supply of anti-matter at that time it was in the end dropped. But now that that problem is solved, we can finally equip our navy with this devastating weapon in barrages of 24 missiles.
Particle beam cannons
The Ironclad already featured this weapon but it was unwieldy and not as powerful as this one. Because they are mounted on turrets, their use has grown exponential.
Astorium
After years of hard work, Wettic ships finally don't need old fashioned titanium to protect themselves. Astorium is of its own already far stronger then titanium and thanks to a process called polarisation it can be even stronger. The biggest plus is that it reflects 20% of all the energy directed on it. Even kinetic energy gets deflected, but how this is possible is still a mystery to us.
And many more...
A new quantum computer that finally works 24 hours and 7 days a week made it possible to install the first generation AI on these line of ships. This means that crews will remain small and it will improve its combat capabilities significantly. And of course the artificial gravity that is generated on board will be appreciated by every crewmember.

This class was designed as a response to the call for a colony ship and also to the call by the private sector for a ship useful for commerce. The Mercury is the answer. It is far larger then any other ship that has ever been built by us and comes in to varieties. The first is meant for colonisation, shipping between military installations and carrying supplies for the navy. Their is also a version that is meant for the private sector and export. It is slower then the first version due to the fact that the antimatter core is replaced by 2 fusion reactors. Both versions however are the same in every other aspect. They both use civilian grade computer technology and sensor equipment and have no artificial gravity.

These ships were procured from Corpsac only 2 years after construction on the space navy had begun. They were outfitted with power systems, engines, FTL-drive and computer system of Wettic design. Still in many ways these ships are the most advanced in the fleet and certainly the most powerful. When they were put into service their class was renamed and they were reclassified as cruisers to reflect the enormous size these ships have in comparison with the rest of the fleet.

This was classified by Corpsac as a heavy cruiser but the Wettic navy considers it a battleship. Like the Miridon class this ship is a heavily modified ship bought from Corpsac but it also has a few additions that are different from the Miridon. It has an AI, shields, antimatter missiles, Agatha sensor array, warp nacelles, reactionless drivers and an antimatter power core. Room for the nacelles and drivers was made by reducing the troop carrying capacity of the ship. There was also made room for 2 boarding crafts and 4 dropships because of the roll envisioned for this ship. It was meant to raid shipping lanes, attack reinforcements that are off guard and plunder weakly defended outposts along with suprise attacks on the rear and flanks of an engaged enemy fleet.
It can do this because it, unlike any other Wettic ship, has retained the jump engines that were installed by Corpsac making these 4 ships the only ones in the Wettic navy capable of travelling through hyperspace.

This is a true compromise. When it became clear that the Ironclad was just never going to be produced in big enough numbers to protect all the commercial traffic and to big to be the eyes and ears of the fleet, a new ship was commisioned. With the Shivan threat looming this ship was put in production straight away and it shows. Although looking like a fighter it is in reality a small ship. It has the protection of a fighter and the manoeuvrability of a Mule but this is compensated by its capacity for FTL speed and its weaponry which is more then capable of taking on fighters while the missiles can take on bigger threats. The plasma cannons fire slowly and that was one reason why they don’t fire in concert but one after the other. It has the Agatha sensor array and a qucomp so that it can scout ahead of the fleet to get a better look at a target or simply to look for possible threats. It was retired when enough Monitor gunboats became available to make this vessel obsolete.

The first warship designed by Wetland it has many features which one will not find in the newer warships.
The turrets are mounted in an unusual way - on rails that go around the ship. This enables them to be pointed in practically any direction, unlike stationary turrets whose area of fire is heavily occluded by the ship they are installed and it makes it possible to fire at one point despite the fact that the ship is spinning. It spins to create artificial gravity instead of a generator. The Ironclad is armed with two of these laser turrets that target fast-moving targets and a front-mounted particle beam cannon in the central axis which is meant to take out bigger ships. There have been some problems getting this cannon to work and this weapon would not work without the antimatter power core.
The primary role of the Ironclad is scouting but it is also quite capable of taking on other ships. It is seventy meters long, 30 meters in diameter and crewed by six. The armour is comprised out of a meter thick titanium hull covered by ceramic tiles. Between the tiles is the shield grid. This creates a weak electromagnetic field that repels most particles when at FTL speeds and also is used during combat to repel most solid ammunition weapons and some types of energy weapons. This wasn't used in the Mars class because of the problems it gave with its new armour.
It’s sensor array is complimented by the Agatha array we got from the alien ship and it has a quantum computer. Although we were able to extend the length of the period it can operate continuously we still had to install 2 of them to allow continuous use of the computer. There is also an old fashioned silicum processor on board but it is not capable of working with the Agatha array so the ship will be a bit blind if the main computers fail.
It has two nacelles and is powered by an antimatter-core making it far faster then the Mule. It has enough fuel for 2 months of uninterrupted FTL-flight and so is expected to fly missions that last at least 3 months but can last as much as 6. Any longer is not recommended because of the cramped living conditions on board. Apart from this primary power core there is also a reserve energy battery which can be used in emergencies but the main cannon cannot be used when on emergency power.
Time for a bump. Is there nobody interested in this?

Yesterday, one of our space depots was overtaken by unknown assailants. They managed to get away with 20 Mars A class destroyers and 150 Ironclad gunships. No one was killed but the ships that had been sent out to find the thieves have found nothing so far. The search will continue until such time that we find our property.
To Glatannia: The ships will be delivered to you in 2 years, the tanks in one. The Mules are 1.2 billion each, which brings the total of your order to 250 billion but I will take 50 billion of that, because we don't export Saturns with ZPE technology. Instead they will be retrofitted with an antimatter core and missiles.
To The Conquer: I am afraid that you have to do your own math. So I can't accept the deal in its present form. You too would not get Saturns with ZPE tech, so if you want to drop that part of the deal, let me know.
