Space Tower

The Empire of Balrogga would like to announce the cooperative effort of the Draconic Cluster and its nations in building a space tower. The tower will connect Balrogga Mountain with the Orbital City of Babylon 1. The construction will begin immediately and continue for the next few years. The materials will be collected from the asteroid belt through the many mining operations we have. There will be two construction crews, one working from the ground and one from Babylon 1.

The tower will be used to ferry passengers from the planet to orbit where they can board transport docking at Babylon 1.

Message to Mekanta:

Thank you for your congraditory message. We have been in space for a number of years but determined it would be more economical in the long run to build this facility because of the cost to move cargo and passengers into orbit. It could also be a monetary generator for other nations who wished to achieve orbit without spending millions or billions in research and development setting up their own space program. It is much easier to place a satelite in the elevator and push the up button.

The Empire of Balrogga has established many mining operations in the near asteroid belt and the Oort cloud, A ring of solar collection stations orbiting between Sol and Mercury, a geo-stationary shipyard and station at the polar lagrange point of Sol, the Oort Station and shipyard, and we are currently trying to discover some uninhabited systems to set up several colonies.

The progress of the Space tower is encouraging. It appears to be slightly ahead of schedule but with construction, there can be many delays. If the timetable continues we could be done a couple years in advance. We will use that extra time to do multiple redundancy checks of the structure to be sure there are no missed flaws in either materials or construction.

The Imperial Space Tower is nearly to the point where we can connect the tower with the substructure being built upon the underside of the Babylon Orbital City. Once connected, the next phase will be to strengthen the tower to withstand the stress. Then the elevator systems will be installed and extensive testing will proceed.

OOC: someones been playing to much Civ Call to power lol

IC:

mmm....i can see some MAJOR problems comeing up with this project, for one weather but im shore you have that sorted. the 2nd would be you need to keep the Orbital City over the same spot at all times (with a small area of fall back) meaning the OC must move at the same rate as [planet name], you would also need to make shore satilights and such dont run into it (but thats easy). we must give our concrats to takeing such a difficult project and we're willing to help in anyway if you need it

Actually, the space tower or space elevator concept is quite feasible, and NASA is currently researching it as a viable space exploration option.
Here's an article (http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2000/ast07sep%5F1.htm) straight from NASA.

OOC: I got the idea from the Night's Dawn series by Peter F. Hamilton. The most important thing to remember is you have to build it on the equator. The torque is less because the earth's rotation is "flinging" it straight off the planet while a more northern or southern location would "fling" it at an angle, creating stress and metal fatigue causing weakness and probable failure. In the series, they used a mountain in Brazil. I also plan on bringing in bitek when I "discover" it.

IC:

The Space Tower is ready to under go tests to see if it will support the weight of Babylon 1. The Space Tower was suggested to being the world’s largest structure by both CNN and MSNBC.

The benefits of the tower to the economic and environmental status of the Empire and of the world are unknown. The exhaust from solid booster rockets is claimed to be not only polluting the atmosphere but it is also alleged to be contributing towards global heating. These claims have not been proven by either side of the argument.

Congrats from the ECF and it's newly Formed StarFleet.
If you need any help I can have a star ship there in a week.

Thank you very much. Where are you located. Perhaps we can open a trade route for our trading vessels.

Balrooga, in exchange for your factories, we wish to help build this 'space tower' We aour knowledge of space, we would be able to build an efficent tower, landing platform. This assistance will be free, of course. Do you accept?

As we rise, be sure to watch outside the window as the curvature of the Earth becomes visible and the sky changes from deep blue to black, truly one of the most breathtaking views you will ever see!

I would have to argue with this - the most breathtaking view, IMHO is watching sunrise.
From low Earth orbit.

If you want to find out for yourself, check out Celestia - http://www.shatters.net/celestia/ it's a fully 3D planetarium, and it can do some pretty amazing stuff.

Nothing like sunrise from above the Earth!

A wonderful achievment, the Okyton Empire has been looking for a place suitable to begin construction of a space elevator for some time, but has never found one.

Simianonia gives fair warning to all space able countries. Our space program involves a large catapult and some monkeys. Dont be scared if your see a smouldering tamarin fly past your ships.

Any nations are welcome to use the Space Tower as a port if they do so in a non military capacity.
