Gorkonian Society Back on Track
The military coup that saw the Monarch forcibly removed from power roughly a month ago left Gorkon in shatters, with a devastated economy and heavily damaged cities. According to sources within the new Council of Generals, however, the country is well on the way to becoming a power to be reckoned with. The new Commander-in-Chief, Benjamin Greeson, issued the following statement three days ago:
"People of Gorkon, listen. The Monarch, our ex-leader, Butcher of Jeegos, has been executed as promised. Those who were not there to witness the event would have been proud; in the Central Square of the Palace of Monarchs, surrounded by angry citizens, he was shot in the liver and left to die on the floor, dressed only in rags. His humiliation and suffering caused the crowds to scream with joy; their lust for revenge satisfied. An artist renowned throughout Gorkon has been commissioned to recreate the moment of his death on canvass, which will be displayed in the throne room of the Palace of Monarchs, as one final humiliation. All statues and portraits of all Monarchs have been 'given' to the public, to destroy as they wish.
As promised, hospitals have been completed and are now operating in each major town and city, and a whole host of treatments are now available for a small fee.
The military is now boasting record numbers of applicants, and an all-time low death toll at the academy! All Sentinel-class tanks have been replaced with Gladiator tanks, or upgraded with 152mm guns to bring them up to spec. In addition, two new cruisers have been given the go ahead, the GMS Devastator and the GMS Venerator, and the Battleship GMS Maxson is in the final stages of construction, named in honour of our late-Commander-in-Chief, the man who destroyed the Monarchy.
In light of our significant economic boom, those nations which assisted the previous Commander-in-Chief in exterminating the Elite Guard have been rewarded with 1,000,000 gold sterling, which is roughly $1,500,000; a small token of our appreciation.
Our economy is booming, our people are obedient, and the military is powerful! The last of the Elite Guard prisoners have been tortured to death, and their outposts either destroyed or retrofitted to serve as Military outposts. Long live Gorkon, long live the Military!"
Commander-in-Chief Maxson was assassinated by a Monarchy sympathiser last week. His loss was felt throughout Gorkon, as it was his leadership which removed the Monarchy and destroyed the Elite Guard. The man responsible was apprehended two days ago by the Military. It is reported that he and his immediate family have been executed, and the assets of the rest of his relatives seized. Military Intelligence is looking into any future attacks; in the meantime, Shadow Squadron, the Intelligence Division's own Elite force, has been mobilised to defend the new CinC from any future attacks.
