SAH-EX5 5th Generation Attack Helicopter Development
The SAH-EX5 Attack Helicopter Program is a program to design, develop, and produce Soviet Bloc's 5th Generation Attack Helicopter, following in the footsteps of the SAH-01, SAH-03, SAH-04, and SAH-17.
The SAH-EX5 program began when the need for an up-to-date helicopter was needed to complement the heavy attack helicopter, SAH-17, and replace the aging SAH-04 reconaissance and medium attack helicopter. The SAH-EX5 program calls for a helicopter with supreme maneuverability, speed, and sensor systems as well as a potent weapons capability. The SAH-EX5 contract was awarded to Dat' Pizdy Aircraft Industries after a short competition. The competition was provided by the SAH-17 creator, Szymansky Industries. Their SAH-EX5 helicopter, the YSH-23X, was a downsized SAH-17 with more avionics systems. It superficially resembled the SAH-17 but maintained smaller, more efficient engines. However, the YSH-24X, Dat' Pizdy Corporation's entry, had several advantages including the following: NTR/NOTAR, ability to fly sideways and at sideways angles, heavier weapons load-out, and more speed. Engineers would've preferred the YSH-23X due to the fact its closely related to the SAH-17 (the former mainstay of the ARSB Army Helicopter forces) and shares 96% parts comminality. The advantages the YSH-23X had over the Dat' Pizdy entry were these: parts comminality with SAH-17, controls were nearly identical (no new pilot training required), and a smaller airframe. In the end, the YSH-24X won the right to be designated the SAH-EX5, soon to be known as the SAH-24A.
The picture will remain un-released until the official specifications are released.
