Evolution of the Sentinel

Automagfreek
25-06-2004, 03:53
Minister Hartman walked down the clean halls of the secret military instillation at Fort Brigg, the birthplace of Automagfreek's infamous Sentinels. As he approached the elevator, a scientist cloaked in white ran to his side with a grin on his face. You'll be happy to know that our tests were conclusive, and we have a specimen. The myostatin blockers and certain other changes in the Sentinel code were all successful. Hartman looked over his shoulder on each side, and quietly whispered to the scientist. Not here, get in the elevator. In the two went, and they began the long descent into the deep underground facility, one of many that harvested the Sentinels.

The ride down took some 10 minutes, and as they finally reached their destination, armed guards met the two men as they exited. Hartman glanced around at the spotless white walls, and his shoes squeaked on the polished tile floor as the two began making thier way to the first checkpoint. The scientists paused briefly for so that the guards could scan his retinas, and after only a second or two the pair began moving into the actual labs. You see sir, Project Black Storm, AKA the Sentinel project, was highly successful in creating a gentically pure cell that would be ready for reproduction. Our findings in the version 1.2 (the current Sentinels) model produced some.....unexpected results. At age 40, the Sentinels experience unusual loss in bone marrow, and at age 54 their sight begins to dwindle significantly. Both these problems were identified and have been corrected. Hartman nodded as the scientist continued to speak. The two had just past the actual labs where hundreds of Sentinel fetuses sat in incubation.

The project is fairly expensive, but Automagfreek needs such weapons in it's arsenal. Lord Dreadfire will be pleased to know that our newest version, "version 2.0" has not only been cleaned of the previously mentioned defects, we're also changing how we raise the Sentinels from birth. We've discovered an exciting new drug, a myostatin blocker. Myostatin is a chemical that regulates muscle growth, and we've discovered that if we use this drug on the infant Sentinels, their muscle capacity will increase some 26-33% from previous models. Hartman stopped dead in his tracks and grabbed the scientist by the shirt collar, lifting him off the ground ever so slightly.

Damn it man, did you not listen to Lord Damien? We do NOT want "super soldiers"! Do you not rememeber "Project: Red Haze"? Do you not remember how insanely modified and unstable those things were? Even our Sentinel Stalkers, the only modified unit in our arsenal, were no match for them. They could wheel and dart about faster than the human eye can see. Before you even knew what happened, you could be dead within seconds of encountering one. Those things were a disgrace, an abomination spat forth from the chasms of Hell. The Gods themselves would not dare create such a thing as the Strikers, and if any nation on the face of this earth tried to recreate them, The Destroyer would pour onto them a river of pain and misery. We cannot allow such things to exist! Dammit man! The scientist was beginning to turn blue, and when Hartman came to his senses he released him, sending the man in white crashing to the ground.

I'm sorry sir, I understand completely. We are only blocking the myostatin until age 10, after that we are worried that the Sentinels may be subject to heart disease, liver problems, and if thier muscles become too strong they are likely to break their own bones. We are going literally as far as we can take it sir. That is not why you are here though, you are here to see our new harvesting method, correct? Hartman wiped the sweat off his brow and nodded, confirming the scientist's question. Then follow me.

Hartman noticed that a significant protion of a large wall had been carved out, and the two passed aonther checkpoint. After a short delay, they came to a large reinforced foor. Are you ready to see wonders sir?

The door slowly opened and the pair stepped out onto a large balcony. Hartman's eyes grew big and his jaw went agape as he scanned the room from right to left. All about the floor, as far as the eye could see, Hartman saw the large organ like containers that the scientist pointed to. What are they? Asked the entranced Minister. They are human wombs sir, linked to a self replenishing food source. Although the vessel that contains the Sentinel embryo is a manufactured human organ, it lives very similar to a plant. See the gray "soil" it sits in? It is as dirt is to a plant my friend. All we do it pump the proper chemicals and nutrients through the sprinkler systems every few hours, and the womb does the rest.

Hartman continued to stare at the wombs practically without blinking. Tell me what happens when the Sentinel is ready to....hatch? The scientist looked at Hartman with an undying smile upon his face. As the "water" inside the womb breaks, it goes in labor just as any female would. The baby Sentinel is birthed from the womb and collected by our team of harvesters. After birth, the womb is cleaned and another Sentinel is placed inside again after about 4 to 7 days. The pre-fertilized egg is sent down a small tube into the womb, and these eggs are encoded so that once it matures we get the product we desire. Each womb has an egg sack with thousands of eggs inside just like a human female, and each and every one was individually encoded, and naturally any rejects are promptly terminated. We are guessing we will have to replace the egg sack about once every few years. Hartman removed his hat and ran his hand across his sweating forehead. This is unholy..... The scientist stepped closer to Hartman and peered him in the eye. No sir, this is science. Our system is based off of the Mallbertan Net, or MALLNET. Mallberta has long since ceased to exist, but after decades of research we were able to duplicate this method. We did have to experiment on.....live subjects, but this is the result of years worth of study. Your costs of production will dwindle, but in return we expect an unlimited ceiling for funding.

AMF News Update

Good evening, this is Walter Perkins reporting. In today's news, scientist have announced a startling breakthrough in Project: Black Storm, also know as the Sentinel project. As we all know, Sentinels are the backbone of Automagfreek. They keep us safe while we play, they die so we can live. We have received word that several new harvesting plants have opened up, and instead of using teams of thousands of scientists to create the Sentinels.....we...are surprised to announce that the new harvesting cells.....are cloned and processed human wombs. This work is the result of nearly a decade of study by top AMF and Resi Corp scientists, but we have not had any official word from either Automagfreek or Resi Corp officials. Lord Damien is expected to give a statement either later this evening or sometime tomorrow morning. We will break in with his report as it happens.

This has been an AMF News update.

Absolutly not. The Sentinels are not weapons that we sell or trade. I'm sorry.

OOC: Yes, but I've upgraded them slighty using the myostatin blocking drug. Before I had scientists basically "grow" each one, now it's all done "naturally".

It has come to our attention that you are creating genetically modified soldiers. The situation is intriguing and exciting at the same time; thus, we endeavour to seek out the methods used in such production. The sentinel program has sparked the interest of our defense and national police forces. Our Chairman of Defense, the honorable Nolan Kell would much like to tour the facilities in which the sentinels are harvested. We would also like to open diplomatic relations with your nation. We are prepared to open an embassy in our capital, New Haven, for your representatives.

May prosperity shine upon you, and may you have a pleasant day.

I'm glad that you've taken the time to see our progress Mr. Hartman, but I'm afraid your tour isn't done quite yet. Said the scientis as he began walking towards the nearby wall. He motioned Hartman over to his side, adn he pressed his hand against the white wall. A faint blue light could be seen under the scientist's palm, and after a few seconds the door began to tremble. Hartman and the scientist entered a small hidden room, and the contents inside made Hartman gasp.

As you can see sir, the entire network is run by this...

http://67.18.37.14/40/9/upload/p993186.jpg

Isn't it astonishing? It's a hive mind that regulates and controls the entire network so that we don't have to. Hartman's eyes filled with water and his mouth went agape as he starred at the shell of what was once a person. It did not even look like a human being, for the back porton of it's head was missing and had been replaced by large wires and other devices. A small section of it's torso remained intact, but the rest of it's body was missing. What abomination of the Gods is this? How is this possible? The scientist's mood had shifted from lighthearted to stone cold serious. He placed his right hand on Hartman's shoulder and leaned towards his ear, speaking in a soft yet commanding voice.

Because we were told to. Not even Lord Damien is aware that such a hive mind exists, for this is the offspring of our military leaders. This technology must never leave this room for the sake of Automagfreek. Such technology is near impossible to replicate, and we must protect this mind with our lives. Granted, we do have backup systems should the mind become incapacitated or fail, but we believe that we have successfully melded man and machine.

Hartman took one last look at the butchered person that sat plugged into the large supercomputers that filled the room, then turned and exited. I expect to be seeing you again, no? The scientist chirped as Hartman began his walk back to the elevator.

Yes, you will be.

Heavy boots resonated loudly down the large corridor, the wearer stopping before a set of white blast doors emblazoned with a black fist holding an equally black staff. He spoke into a console beside it. "Delta. Agent 004, Black Staff Governmental Division." After a second, a latch was heard and the doors opened.

The room was darkened as he entered and stepped into the center spotlight. It was cliche, but effective at hiding identities. "The Freeks are cloning. What do we do about it?"

A voice floated out to him, soft but audible. "We have been growing Assault Marines for years, Delta."

"We do not clone them. We make artificial insemination completely artificial in the 'Iron Wombs'. We haven't cloned militarily since Lord Tian was getting sucked through holes in time!"(OOC: LOOONG story RP with Steel Butterfly in which his main chars f*ck with the timelines)

"That's true, but what right do we have to say anything to them about it?"

"A moral right."

They laughed him out of the chamber.

-------------------------

Hours later, a message would arrive for Damien. Not electronic, but a hand written letter.... in the language of the Freeks.

Damien... I am personally disturbed by this revealation that your scientists are cloning for purposes of war. We used a method similar and it led to worse things. Abomonations to both nature and what lies beyond.

It may seem strange that I would be disturbed by such a thing, considering my past residence, but I am. One mild abomonation will lead to larger ones as the world becomes less and less... moral.

It's signed simply 'Delta'.

Automagfreek has cloned soldiers ever since I came into rule (OOC: Spetember '03 is when I introduced Damien). I thought you were up on such events? The Sentinels are clones and always have been, for we have discovered the way to create an unstoppable soldier. To do that they must be fed war from birth, for a normal person is fed 18 years of morals and values (which damper good results) before going into the military.

Did you forget what kind of soldiers we have here?

Delta sighed at the response. The next message was sent immediatly.

I was unaware that the soldiers were always cloned, sir. Crimmond has genetically engineered soldiers, which I dislike myself, but each one is a unique person, not one duplicate to be found. Please forgive the misunderstanding.

We have no disagreement on how to train the 'lab soldiers'... but is the fact that they were created in one that opens the door to worse deeds. I am not attempting to persuede you to change your military, just to ask you to watch what the scientists develop. Ours were let loose and created a sentient computer by pumping their brains into it. We're still trying to secure the capital because of it.
Kriegorgrad
29-10-2004, 14:49
Matthias stood by the dark marble throne while Kriegor let his eyes wander down the deep purple carpet that went from the dais holding his throne to the two, deep Oakwood doors that sat at the end of the room, kriegor turned his head; dark eyes glinting in the dim light that the torches gave off, to see a dozen or so scribes and sages, not one with without wrinkles while not one was with a full set of hair. However, despite the age of the scribes, they moved about with the air of children, eager to get into the next set of papers, Grand Inquisitor Matthias gave a dissaproving sneer at his underlings just as the mammoth oak wall cracked, disgorging a messenger.

Kriegor's reverie was shattered, he looked up; displeasure marring his face, to see what the giant oak doors had given him this time, his annoyance turned to joy as he saw a messenger bearing a fat envelope. The messenger; a young man with dark hair and dark eyes, went to one knee before Kriegor who plucked the envelope that was proffered, with a child's interest; akin to finding a video game after waiting hours in the dentist, before shooing the messenger away.

Kriegor fingered the beige envelope; it withered under his eyes' scrutiny, before peeling back the red wax seal that had the mark of House Krieg imprinted on it and lifted the papyrus free of it's envelope prison. The Emperor's eyes scanned the frail paper and an unreadable look came across his face as he turned to Matthias.

To our friends in AutoMagFreek, we are concerned about your development of your "sentinels" and would like to ask a few questions.

1) Can the "Sentinels" be affected emotionally in any way.

2) Do the "Sentinels" have any iniative? They seem to obey orders absolutely but does this mean they need to be issued orders for things beyond the obvious.

3) Do the "Sentinels" have any sex drive? I've seen footage of "Sentinels" raping women but this would conflict with the idea of no emotions or is this simply done to inspire fear and hatred into the populace that recieves this brutal treatment?

4) Are sentinels aggressive or are they impersonal when fighting?

Thank you for your time.

Yours,

Grand Inquisitor Matthias, Keeper of the Seal, Guardian of the Tome

To answer your questions about the Sentinels of Automagfreek,

1. Emotionally, no. Beta tests of our Sentinels were conducted just before they were approved for production. 10 Sentinels were pitted up against 500 Sentinels in unrestrained combat. Sensors were attached to the heads of every test subject during combat. Shockingly enough, the brain patterns of the 10 Sentinels were almost that of the 500 attackers. You see, the one thing most people forget when they criticize the Sentinels is this: what sets them apart is their training. Being raised from birth to do and die without fear and question, the Sentinels do wahtever it takes to achieve victory, even in spite of overwhelming odds. Video footage of the beta test concluded that the 10 did hold their ground valiantly, but were ultimatly overran and slaughtered. Tests were successful.

2. Again, another common misconception. We train our Sentienls to function not only as a unit, but also as an individual. This is why Sentinels are not circulated back into the civilian populace once they 'retire'. We made this mistake in the past, and after several bloody killing sprees, we decided that the Sentinels were never to directly interact with the AMF public. A single Sentinel dropped behind enemy lines can function just as effectively as a Sentinel in a large combat unit. What would make you think he would fight any lesser or make poor decisions if he is by himself?

3. Sentinels do not have any real sex drive that we are aware of. Rape is used as a fear tactic.

4. Sentinels are testosterone powerplants. They are highly aggressive and easily agitated when in combat, hence why they are no longer circulated back into the AMF public when they 'retire'. We do not want to run the risk of a killing spree in the civilian sector if a Sentinel has a combat 'flash back'. A Sentinel lives for the sting of battle and the thrill of the hunt, and they fight with as much valor that we could ask for.
