Current Gorkonian Military Capabilities:

[code:1:cff1a605da]
This is a routine announcement of Gorkonian Military capabilities as of 24th June 2004. In light of recent difficulties, numbers are lower than estimated future levels.

Approximately 40% of the population is now involved in the military in some way. 20% are soldiers and officers, 10% naval officers and 5% airforce personnel. The remaining 5% are administrative personnel.
Most of the following technologies have been constructed from technologies purchased from various nations, most prominently noticed in the tanks and aircraft. The 152mm main gun of the Gladiator is our most proud achievement, and is based upon a Russian design in development though it our own work essentially.
These units cost a large amount of money to develop and have been in development for several years in some cases; we cannot afford to upgrade them any further at present, so no new units will be released.

Gorkonian military is currently running intensive drills across the board in light of some performance issues highlighted in recent disturbances. Once this is complete, they will be trained and reassigned as required. They're not going anywhere for a while.

High Command has no intention of sending our troops anywhere. You will have to solve your own problems for now.

Your army takes up a high amount of your population, but I guess its ok, they aren't all active duty right? The majority 85% of the AZK military is reserves, later trained more.

High Command Intelligence is aware of the unwritten rule prevalent in many nations here that your armed forces should consist of no more than 5%. However, there are some unusual circumstances. The previous regime was suspicious of all corporations. As a result, a great many were banned, and foreign investors kept out. 20% of the population managed to work for corporate organisations. Another 10% serviced the Monarch, though they too have moved to newly-established corporate organisations. 5% of the population were of the Elite Guard, though that portion of society has now been exterminated. So 40% of the population were forced to find work in the military, as there were no other jobs left. The rest of the population were either unemployed or took up less-than-legal business activities of their own.
We expect military service to decrease a little over the next few years as we allow corporations to establish themselves here and take on employees. Only 35% of the population are actually trained soldiers, although 40% are in the Military, 5% are just administrative workers, mostly located in the newly-established government.
If you're wondering how the economy survived in such a fashion, you're probably better off not knowing. Let's just say, it's a practice that died with the Monarchy.

Gorkon , your tiny nation can't possibly support the military you have listed above . Stop threatning my allies and puffing your non-existant chest out . At 8 Million you have a long way to go.

Oh, I still want to know.

IC:

Official AZK letter to Gorkon:

We noticed the "militaryness" of your country, to fix it we suggest quick dismantel of at least 70% of the armed forces. As if your army stays at the currents 40% of population, your economy is bound to crash. Most country's economys crashed when they built up a 13 million man armies... :)

OOC -- I'm well aware of the economic implications, nay, impossibilities of a nation having 40% of its population in the military. And that would go for a nation with a population of 8 million, 8 billion or 8 trillion; it's a percentage, irrespective of size. I'm attempting to establish the militaristic nature of the nation, and suggested that the previous regime was obtaining the necessary funds from less-than-legal places, which they now claim to have stopped.

in theory if you had one year conscription and a stock of (slightly obsolete) weapons you could have a large number of reserves. THen after a year keep onnthe ones that want to stay, keeping a small elite army with a huge number of reserves. But that would depend on your regime.
