Mines Nationalized

Unified West Africa
23-06-2004, 19:35
The Federation of Unified West Africa's National Assembly announced today the nationalization of the country's extensive mining system, which for many years has provided the country with the majority of its income. Unified West Africa contains massive deposits of diamonds, bauxite, gold, titanium ore, chromite, and to a lesser extent uranium.

The vote wasn't even close, with %89 voting in favor including all members of the African Socialist Party and the ruling Social Democrats. "We believe this move is necessary to move our country down the road to progress," said SDP spokesman Brian Banya. "National control of our primary source of income is necessary to ensure that the rights of miners are protected, our environment is not degraded by out of control pollution, and that the profits of our mining industry serve the people of the nation and the communities in which they are located.

Miners in the former Guinea and Sierra Leone interior celebrated the announcement today with joyful demonstrations and a government-approved day off. Their reaction may have been in part due to the additional news that wages for mining sector employees would be raised by $1.80 a day, a major leap in income for many, followed by across the board wage increases in other sectors of the UWA economy.

The multinational corporations who formerly owned the mines are unlikely to be pleased, especially given that the mines have been nationalized without compensation.

General Reginald Smith, acting on behalf of the Premier Curtis Fabus, who is currently ill and in hospital, has ordered 4 parachute divisions to ready and prepare to jump into Unified West Africa and retake the mines. At the very least, they will be evacuating all CM citizens and all mine equipment that they can fit on the C-130s.

IC: CEO Renou was not pleased at recent developments in Unified West Africa. For years, the company's holdings in the area had provided a steady flow of income, especially the gigantic Koleos complex in the Southern tip of the nation. Hundreds, and even thousands, of metric tons of valuble industrial metals and minerals had been extracted each year and Granzi Consolidated Mining Ventures (GCMV) had invested billions. Now that had all gone to waste. Without any financial reinbursement, his company might callapse. Settling into his armchair, Renou began to brood...

Though Communist Mississippi's military actions were not yet known, precautions were being taken nonetheless. The government had taken to arming newly formed miner's unions with small arms. Nothing fancy, just surplus SKS, SMGs, or bolt action hunting guns that happened to be lieing around. A slow trickle of troops was flowing into the mining regions, not the freshly minted recruits of the national army but hardened bush fighters who had been core components of the five year's previous Republican Revolution. Even so, heavy offensive vehicles were in miserably short supply.

Foreign workers were given a choice; they could stay in the countries as employees of the newly minted National Mining Authority, or they would be given transport back. It was unlikely many would take the former option, so boats were being ready to take foreign workers (mostly managers, bosses and the like as most of the labor was local) back to their homes. Though nobody was seriously hurt in the effort, a few corporate contractors ended up temporarily detained. There was no love lost between the miners and their masters, that was for damn sure.

I will not send in any military forces on three conditions.

The conditions:

1) The safe return of all CM citizens.

2) Compensation for the seized mines.

3) Compensation for the seized mine equipment.

The Prime Minister's response:

"We cannot in good conscience contribute any type of material support to an apartheid state that oppresses our people across the ocean any longer. The vast mineral wealth that Communist Mississippi has extracted from our soil over the years, amounting to billions and billions of dollars, is adequate compensation and we will not pay a single cent more in addition so long as CM remains a fascist police state with no respect for the rights of African people."

Meanwhile at the airport and port facilities of Conakry, the men responsible for seeing the safe transport of CM citizens are panicking. Not everyone who is supposed to be there should be; for unknown reasons at least 14 mid level mine managers and security personnel are missing.

President Derek Igomo of The United African Republic of Lusaka sends of New Lusaka City's congratulations of and support for Unified West Africa's decision towards self-sufficient progress.

Igomo, revolutionary-war leader known as something of a crusader for African rights and unity after several wars of intervention against western imperialism, spoke generally of his hope for a new strength in long-suffering West Africa. He said of speculation that 1st world powers may demand crippling compensation that their stakes in the region were ill-gotten and that they had already taken a disproportionately great share of the available wealth. Lusaka would support West Africa's right to claim and finally to benefit from its own resources. Igomo hopes to make the UARL and UWA serious trade partners in the future.
Unified West Africa
24-06-2004, 20:35
We accept President Igomo's congratulations heartily, and hope to foster increasing trade relations in the future. We feel our decision to take the actions we have is further justified by Communist Mississippi's treatment of its black population, whom we are told are being forced into camps as we speak. We can no longer allow the wealth of our own soil to finance the oppression of our brothers and sisters in the Americas.

Prime Minister Gerald Dubou, himself a relatively new statesman, also asks for Lusaka's input into the current Nigeria-Niger-Chad-Cameroon situation. Which is currently set to become extremely messy. In Lusaka's opinion, would resisting the Chellians and their aggressive actions be wise, and can we trust the forced arrayed against them any more than the imperialists themselves?

Meanwhile in the mining districts, an audio tape has been handed over to a locally stationed CNN news team covering the nationalization issue. It plays as follows:

"Greetings, from the Global African Liberation Movement. We are currently holding 14 of Communist Mississippi's imperial henchman. We do not seek a ransom, and we do not want negotiations. We are demanding one thing and one thing only: that Communist Mississippi cease the relentless persecution of its black population immediately, or their citizens will never be seen again."

The story very shortly thereafter makes international headlines. Dubou's public relations officers deny any government involvement, which is true, and assures the world that police and the military are looking their hardest for the hostages, which isn't quite as true.

We gratefully accept Edolia's offer of military aid and open our ports and airports to Edolian military advisors to arrive at at their first conveniance.

Unfortunately, this will not be enough to deter Communist Mississippi in the immediate future. CM aircraft, both fighter-bombers and transport aircraft are in the air, right now, about to drop their cargo on UWA soil over an incident we have no control over. If you fire on a single one of my aircraft's or soldier's, we will send in 6 carrier fleet groups (About 120 ships total) and a force of 30 infantry divisions.

The 4 Parachute Divisions are not invading; they will be out within 3 days (real time)

You have the word of General Bertrand Navarre (Acting premier, and a very honorable man) that we only want to get our citizens out of the nation. We have about 15,000 CM Citizens in your nation, the managers of mines, the foremen of mines etc, the families of the managers etc, and then consultants, professional workers, semi-skilled workers, etc. We need to be able to assure that the 15,000 CM citizens are safely evacuated from your nation. Surely a few small armed teams couldn't accomplish that, we need 4 Divisions (About 72,000 paratroopers total).

We will be out within 3 days real time. Please do not use escalate the situation.

Enocoded Communique to the West African Government:
"We will be happy to provide you with military supplies as well as training against Mississippian aggression. If war breaks out, we are also willing to provide air support to African troops as well as a small number of special operations forces."

---

Every day, thousands upon thousands of ships docked at and left from the massive port-city of Gerburg. Stretching for hundreds of kilometers along the coastline, it provided Edolia with a massive gateway to the world. On this day, preparations for more than the everyday commerce were underway. Military supplies were being loaded onto a group of military transports. Along with a small military escort, the twenty-four freighters would carry enough high-grade military weaponry and ammunition to equip a large portion of the West African military.

Inventory:
12,000 G-14cx 6mm multi-use assault rifles
24,000,000 rounds of 6mm ammunition
1,000 Y-14i 14mm miniguns
4,000,000 rounds of 14mm belt ammunition
600 Tz-12 anti-personnel rocket launchers
48,000 anti-personnel rockets
600 B-18b "Dragonfly" 160mm mortars
192,000 160mm mortar shells

---

"We expect that if the West African government requires more military aide, we will give it to them. We will follow their lead in regards to dealing with the Mississippians, although we hope that a conflict can be avoided. We strongly favor African independence and reconciliation between imperialist powers and African nations, and believe that the Mississippians are merely perpetuating the conflicts that have plauged the continent of Africa for so long."

Due to the threat of armored forces in UWA and seeing how CM forces in Greece are now available for deployment elsewhere.

About 80-90% of CM forces in Greece are pulling out of Greece and heading for UWA. 1 Parachute Division and 1 Infantry Division are staying in Greece until a permanent peace settlement can be achieved.

So that means that on way to UWA from Greece, are the following.

2 Parachute Divisions (Each 18,000 paratroopers, 500 C-130s to transport men and equipment, 500 hummers, assorted light vehicles, shoulder launched weaponry, mortars, light artillery, and assorted reconnaissance vehicles)

2 Rapid Response Airmobile Divisions (Each 18,000 Light Infantry, with 2,250 Mi-24 assault helicopters for transporting and fire support. 200 CH-46 Transport helicopters. Assorted shoulder launched SAM and AT weapons, mortars, and 50 155mm Howitzers)

10,000 White Knights of Mississippi. They are trained in guerilla warfare and are equipped to move swiftly through any terrain. These 10,000 are best suited for mountains. They have light mortars, shoulder launched AA and AT weapons, etc.

4 Infantry Divisions (Each 18,000 Heavy Infantry transported by trucks and light vehicles, 400 towed Howitzers and other artillery, 200 SA-19 Mobile SAM, and other assorted light artillery and support units)

1 Mechanized Infantry Divisions (Each 18,000 heavy infantry, 2,250 BMP-3s, 400 G-6 155mm SPA, 200 SA-19 Mobile SAM, and assorted reconnaissance vehicles)

1 Armored Divisions (Each 18,000 Panzer Grenadiers, 500 T-98 Tanks, 2,250 BMP-3s, 300 G-6 155mm SPA, 200 SA-19 Mobile SAM, and assorted reconnaissance vehicles)

We regret that it has become necessary to commit so many soldiers to the campaign to secure our citizens, but we have 15,000 citizens in UWA and we cannot allow armored forces to threaten the 4 parachute divisions that are currently on their way and will be jumping into UWA in about 60 minutes. Granted our paratroopers have been lavished with Milans and other AT weapons, we feel the best way to stop a tank is with another tank.

IC- This is not an invasion; we will leave the second we get the 14 hostages and the other 15,000 citizens out. We have 15,000 citizens in UWA and we will be evacuating them via C-130s.

OCC- This is not an invasion.

Speeding from Greece towards the coast of UWA

4 Fabus Class Super Carriers (Nimitz just renamed)
24 Stalin Class Frigates (Oliver Hazard Perry just renamed)
24 Hilter Class Destroyers (Arleigh Burke just renamed)
80 Various support ships.

An Exclusion Zone has been declared for 15 miles off the coast of UWA, any ships attempting to deliver military cargo will be turned back. Those refusing to turn back will be fired upon.

The 4 Parachute Divisions from Mississippi, the 2 Parachute Divisions from Greece, and the 2 Rapid Response Divisions from Greece will be in UWA in about 30 minutes.

Also 100 F-14s from the Fabus Class Carriers are taking off to provide air cover. They will also help turn back military cargo ships.

Each carrier has 85 aircraft, of which 50 are F-14Ds. 15 of the 85 are F/A 18 Hornets.

100 F-14Ds and 30 F/A 18s will be taking part in the upcoming operation to help turn back foreign ships.

Remember that as evidenced by the USA "Operation Restore Hope" in Somalia, the typical african tribesman can barely aim a rifle (they tend to do the old "spray and pray"), so you'll need to spend time training the tribals to fire the mini guns and such. Also, I've read reports of the South African war in Angola, and the tribals would fire 30-40 mortar rounds per minute and the mortars would overheat, and rounds would explode in them, killing the crews. You will have your hands full trying to communicate to the tribals about the proper way to handle weapons.

I will agree to divert all deployments of forces pulling out from Greece.

I will only send in the original 3 Parachute Divisions, they will take up positions in the 5 towns where the CM residents live (Each is a town of about 3,000 and they were built near the mines).

They will escort all CM citizens safely to the nearest airport where C-130s will take them to Mississippi.

Furthermore, 1,000 Paratroopers will mount a search for the 14 hostages.

Do you agree?

Government response to CM:

We don't believe you entirely understand the situation on the ground here. The prescence of so many foreign troops, along with CM's reputation as hostile towards blacks and racist to the core, is likely to cause tremendous civil unrest. Please read this part carefully: IT IS IN COMMUNIST MISSISSIPPI'S BEST INTERESTS to confine their operation to a small, mobile, light force to retrieve their citizens in cooperation with UWA forces. All 15,000 CM citizens are being sent home peacefully with our own transportation equipment; only the fifteen are unaccounted for.

Your military also is completely uninformed as to the state of the UWA's developement. There are simply not enough facilities to cope with that many foreign forces, even if we were to cooperate. They simple do not exist. If these many men are moved into our country, your helicopters will not have places to land, your damaged vehicles will remain broken down for lack of supplies, and your troops will go hungry because not enough food can be moved in by air or sea fast enough.

We are in negotiations with representatives of the kidnappers as we speak. This large scale a military intervention is unnecessary and will result in needless loss of life while the same results can be achieved from a smaller, more sensible operation.

Meanwhile, somewhere else..

Soldiers in the functioning capital of Freetown celebrate their aquirement of new Edolian arms, proudly parading their new rifles through the city streets. UWA arms manufacturing centers, of which there are numerically few but very productive ones, are recieving orders for production of the new 6mm rounds that the rifles require.

Y-14 miniguns are being set up at probable landing sights to be used as an improvised but effective defense against paratrooper drops and rocket launchers are finding their way into the hands of troops likely to encounter Communist Mississippi soldiers.

Hattian military advisors have been advised that they will be accepted into the country, but that taking additional precautions for their own safety would be wise. The Southerners are on their way, and the army can't be everywhere at once.

(OOC: Officially the army has about 60,000 soldiers, half of which are raw recruits and the other seasoned guerilla fighters. Individual villages and towns have heard of the attack however, and local self-defense militas are being formed with whatever arms happen to be available. The miner's militia has about 44,000 poorly armed and organized fighters and the locals in the cities and the jungles have an indeterminate number, in the hundreds of thousands. But obviously with a fraction of the effectiveness, all other things being equal, of a trained and organized military force.)

He RPed sending them, they just don't arrive minutes later, ships take time. Why do you think I said I was sending Parachute divisions hours ago, and just a few moments ago they are near your nation.

Due to your nations rabidly racist anti-white policies (as evidenced by the kidnapping of my citizens) I'm going to allow the 4 parachute divisions to jump into your nation. They will cooperate with your government forces to find my missing citizens and to get the other 15,000 CM citizens out. They will also help you disarm the miner’s militia if you wish.

If your government forces fire them on, there will be swift and brutal retaliation against your government. If they are fired on by miner’s militia, well they can fight back against the militia, but we can hardly hold your government responsible for what armed citizens do.

The 4 Parachute Divisions entered UWA airspace and the C-130s headed towards the drop sites, they would dropping about 14 brigades (72,000 paratroopers total). There were 5 towns were CM citizens lived and worked, (They were white only towns that were near the mines). There were also about 1,000 white commercial farmers in a rural region of UWA. 1 Brigade would drop into the farming community and secure the area for C-130s to land in improvised dirt runways. The whole evacuation operation should take about 24 hours. By tomorrow evening the forces would all be out and the people would be happily on their way to CM.

A colonel in a C-130 called out, "Get ready gentlemen, check your equipment, we're jumping in 10 minutes."

At the rural white farming community, the farmers were barricaded in their houses, their weapons ready, they were expecting masses of blacks to attack them. The barbed wire fences at the entrance of the community, the signs proclaiming "White Only", all gave evidence that the whites had always shunned the natives.

They heard noises, airplanes. Many looked out the windows to see about 50 large cargo planes in the air. Suddenly men began to jump out of the planes; several thousand parachutes could be seen (5,000 paratroopers to be exact).

A farmer with a pair of binoculars looked up, "They're white", he spoke with sigh of relief. His wife asked, "What nation are they from?". He looked at the side of one of the planes, "They're ours", he shouted, even happier.

Our troops won't go hungry because A) We're only go to be there about 24 hours at the most. B) We have 72,000 paratroopers (light forces) who are trained to get their own food, if they must, (but standard kit means they have 3-4 days food depending how they ration it). Don't worry about us, we're sending in 72,000 soldiers, and in 24 hours we'll be pulling out 72,000 soldiers.

If we leave with less than 72,000 soldiers there will be trouble. Unless of course a few parachutes don't open, then the only one in trouble is the company who made them. But I'm dead serious, don't fire on my men.

In 24 hours all my forces will be gone from UWA and we will be just a brief paragraph in their history books. I hope nothing noteworthy happens during the rescue attempt. There were hastily erected barricades on the streets leading into the town, the whites were readying for the black militias to attack. The boss of one of the mines was in his house loading magazines for his M-14 rifle. His wife and 2 daughters were also helping load magazines, his 17 year old son was checking his own rifle and readying for an attack.

They heard noise, lots of noise. Outside they could see men in parachutes falling from the sky, there were lots of them, thousands.

As the father looked outside and saw the parachute units, he knew it was his nation's forces, he spoke only two words, "Thank God".

At the 5 mining towns, approximately 13,200 paratroopers are dropping into each town.

At the commercial farming community, approximately 5,000 paratroopers dropped in.

There are 1,000 paratroopers with hummers dropping near the capital city, so their commander can meet with the leader of UWA and discuss plans to find the missing 14 CM citizens. They also have a gift in the form of a Hummer to give to the UWA leader, to show that this is a mission with good intentions.

The transport fleets left the port, after loading up with arms, ammo, and equipment destined for the UWA military. Onboard, there were HAR-5 Battle Rifles, T-90 "Avenger" tanks (155mm howitzers, the gun will have to be put on in-country.) and "Crossbow" class IFVs, along with other commodities such as ammunition and support weapons.

Escorting the supplies were 2 Leviathon class Battleships, and 2 "Lighting" class Escort Carriers, and a number of smaller ships, carrying planes for the UWA airforce (Mig-31s, and Hattian Air Superiority Fighters (HASFs).

To train the UWA troops, the 6th Hat Guard Division had loaded onto the ships, they were among some of the most skilled troops in the entire Hattian army.

Outside one of the white mining towns. The 13,200 paratroopers had landed without incident, but something wasn't right, the town was quiet, too quiet.

General Philippe Bon of the 1st Parachute Division, the unit that had landed about 1/2 mile outside the town asked a colonel what the problem was.

(General) "Why aren't these soldiers moving forward, we have to secure the town."

(Colonel) "Sir, our scouts report no movement of any kind in the town. No black militias, no white civilians. Something doesn't seem right, can we send a few platoons to scout ahead and see what's going on before the entire force moves in?"

(General) "Yes, of course, get right on it."

The Division has 500 hummers with them, of which

300 are M998s (Transport 2 crew + 8 soldiers)
75 are M1097s (Transport 2 crew + 8 soldiers)
100 are M1025 (Mounts either the 7.62mm MG, the M-2 50 caliber, or the M-17 Grenade Launcher)
25 are M1035 (Transports the wounded)

Also 100 M1083 Standard Cargo Truck (Transports 3 soldiers in the cab, and 20 in the bed)

10 M1097 and 15 M998 Hummers slowly move forward to the outskirts of the town.

OOC: With the specific countries I'm talking about, circumstances developed differently. There isn't alot of white agriculture because there weren't alot of white farmers there, historically. These are heavily tropical, forested areas. Most agriculture is small, black run, and at subsistance level. Also, population levels would be much lower; 300 in each town is more accurate than 3000, because in this kind of situation most workers of a foreign-owned mining operation would be local (that is, the rank-and-file pickaxe wielders anyway.)

IC:

The iron miner's militia approached the barricaded in mine managers and their families Armed to the teeth, but bearing a white flag of truce. Still, most of the procession didn't look happy.

Blaise Toure certainly wasn't. As the leader of the militant miner's union he was at the same time angry and scared. Angry that the progress they had made, the taking control of their own lives and livelihoods that they were trying to accomplish, was being threatened by what he regarded as a cadre of redneck fascist imbeciles. On the other hand, he was frightened. All those men falling from the sky were too much, far too much, for he and his men to ever successfully drive back.

Seeing a Mississippian stick his rifle nervously over the barricade, he order ed his men to stop and put the megaphone to his mouth. He knew English, enough to get by anyway. He had to in order to work with his managers and bosses who couldn't be bothered to learn the local dialects. He spoke, voice amplified by the device.

"Attention Communist Mississippi citizens. Your stormtroopers have arrived for you. Hurry out and go meet them, and get yourselves the hell out of our hair. Good riddance to the lot of you. Oh, and let your troops know now that they're here they have 48 hours to leave or we come for them. I wish I could say it's been nice knowing any of you."

With that Toure and his men trudged back the mile long dirt path to their workplaces. Despite the fascists dropping from the air all around them, they were determined to go about their lives and work as though things were normal.

Occ- How about we say 1,000 per town. That way the town is small enough to be more reasonable, but large enough that we might get a decent small battle to take place in the town, and there will be sufficient places to hide, take cover, and such. :)

The scouts reported back to General Philippe Bon, a black militia had sacked the town, everybody was dead. T

he reports from the other towns were good, the militias near them had allowed the citizens to be evacuated by CM army vehicles.

But this town that General Philippe Bon and his 1st Parachute Division had been tasked with securing, well the militias near it had sacked the town and gone on a frenzy of rape and murder. And they had just missed them.

The paratroopers who entered the houses discovered the most horrifying scenes any of them had ever seen. Dozens of paratroopers were now in the streets of the town vomiting.

Mutilated corpses were found throughout the town, most bodies were inside; the people were killed while they were in their homes. Unlike the other towns this one had no barricades, the people apparently were not expecting any attack.

The colonel came back to the general, he was shocked and nervous.

(General) "What is it."

(Colonel) "God help me, it was horrible general."

(General) "What happened? What did you find?"

(Colonel) "They were dead sir, all of them."

(General) "The nig---- killed them? Is that what you mean"

(Colonel) "Yes sir. What do we do about it?"

(General) "They can't have gotten too far away. Mount up every paratrooper in every available vehicle, we're going after those savages."

(Colonel) "Yes sir."

(General) "With any luck, we'll catch them drunk and unprepared walking back to their mine."

2,300 mounted the M1083 SCT

3,750 mounted the M998s and M1097s

600 mounted in the M1025s (2 up front, the 1 gunner, and 3 squeeze in the back)

The mounted forces race off down the road that leads to the nearest mine, they are certain the militia that is there is behind the attack on the town. There are also many hummers moving off the roads, the units guarding the flanks of the advancing force. The transports will stop about 1 mile away from the mine, and from there the men will move on foot, the M1025s however will wait until the foot troops are in position and the fighting has begun, and then will race in to provide heavy fire support.

6,550 paratroopers stay behind in the town to bury the bodies of the dead whites, and just incase the blacks come back to try to carry off loot and such, they'll be blundering into an ambush.

Nobody has planned the Burinbe mine massacre. It just.. happened. Natives faced terrified, barricaded Mississippians, urging them to come out of their shelters, for their countrymen had arrived to take them home. Then someone, no one knew who, fired a shot. Things got out of hand from there.

But not all was entirely as it seemed. The militant miner's union was nowhere to be found and in fact made an effort to stay away from the town. In their abscene, bandits (remnants of rebel militias from before the 2010 unification) had taken advantage of the situation and plundered and stole everything that wasn't nailed down. The bandits themselves had taken a track into a forest camp and were enjoying their victory with locally produced cannabis and moonshine.

The lightly armed miners, on the other hand, were waiting at their camps, totally unprepared and unaware of the situation.

This is not near the massacred town, this is another incident. I will post the mining camp near the massacred town soon.

At the mining camp where Blaise Tou and his militia were, paratroopers from the 2nd Parachute Division under the command of General Antonio Don Juan Miguel (48 years old), a Spanish man who had been born in 1956 in Equatorial Guinea when it was still a colony of Spain.

The white citizens at the town near the mine were being loaded into C-130s that had landed on long dirt fields (They had to improvise and make do with the runways they had). About 6,200 Paratroopers were guarding the town and overseeing the evacuation.

7,000 paratroopers were following the general to the black mining camp. They were in hummers, trucks, and about 400 were on foot.

They stopped about 500 yards outside the black mining camp, they set up mortars, heavy machine guns, the hummers with the support weapons (MK 17 Grenade Launchers, M2 50 calibers, etc) trained them towards the camp.

General Antonio Don Juan Miguel wanted to find out if the 14 missing citizens were in this mining camp, and he wanted to know if they weren’t here, where were they.

He spoke via his command hummer’s public announcement system (built in megaphone)

(General Miguel) (Speaking with a moderate Spanish accent, because by the time he learned English he was about 20 and it was hard for him to get rid of the accent) “Attention nig---s, I want to speak to your leader. Send the head nig--- out and be quick about it, I don’t have all day.”

This is the mining camp near the massacred town.

General Philippe Bon of the 1st Parachute Division was leading about 6,650 elite paratroopers down the road; they had stopped about ½ mile from the mining camp.

The soldiers were now in positions overlooking the mining camp, they had snuck to within about 300 yards of the mining camp.

The General decided since he wasn’t sure these were the ones who had massacred the town that he would try to talk with them first. The General being a Frenchman spoke French better than English; he called out over a microphone.

“L'attention, l'attention, tout le monde est sorti de leurs tentes non armées avec leurs mains dans l'air.”

(Occ- Translation “Attention, attention, everybody come out of their tents unarmed with their hands in the air.”)

He waited for a reply.

The paratroopers anxiously clutched their rifles, waited with machine guns. They were unsure if this would work diplomatically, or if it would become a shooting match.

After about 30 seconds with no reply, the General repeated what he had said, “L'attention, l'attention, tout le monde est sorti de leurs tentes non armées avec leurs mains dans l'air.”

About 2 minutes later with no reply, the General spoke again, "Je tout le monde répète est sorti de leurs tentes non armées avec leurs mains dans l'air. Ceci est votre dernier avertissement."

(Occ- Translation "I repeat everybody come out of their tents unarmed with their hands in the air. This is your last warning.")

The paratroopers waited.

Secure mining town (we'll call it Makoure. Forgive me if that means absolutely nothing, I don't actually no West African dialects =/):

The reply comes back quickly and switly through Blaise's megaphone. Blaise didn't even bother getting up. He just sat in his wooden folding chair, totally exasperated by the situation.

"Who're you calling ******, you fat overfed slavedrivers? Ever stop and think that if you Nazis had allowed us to unionize and paid us a little above starvation wages, you wouldn't be in this situation, eh? I'm the 'head ******' and I have nothing to say to you. If you're looking for your people, look yourself. We have no idea where they are, and we have work to do."

The miners looked at them nervously and kept their weapons close, holding their positions.

Massacre Sight:
A few men did come out, weaponless and nonthreatening, probably representatives of the union. They looked somewhat apprehensive but they made their best effort to appear friendly. They certainly didn't look like butchers, anyway. They knew they were no match for the Mississippians, and so long as they weren't taking them captive, the least they could do was talk.

New Lusaka City, President Igomo's bunker

The room didn't look all that presidential, but then Igomo and his Social Progress Party comrades didn't tend to, either. The bunker was kept much as the little room Igomo and his friend Colin Olongwe -now Defence Secretary- had shared in then Roycelandian East Africa in the late '70s... except that the rain didn't get in quite so easily, and nore did the Roiks.

Oh Lord, he's got that look, again. Thought Colin as he glanced at his old friend Igomo. Lusaka was just done saving half of Gabon from multiple first-world imperialist powers, but had at the same time failed to liberate the capital. Igomo was itching for a new crusade- after all, the economy hadn't dropped in weeks, he was clearly losing his touch for over-extension!

"Perhaps they'd benefit from AFRISAM." Rumbled the President, quite out of the blue.

And shortly communication channels were open to West Africa offering Lusakan peacekeepers, special forces commandos, mobile surface-to-air missile systems, small arms, and the benefits of Lusakan training facilities at home (fine-tuned by thirty years of almost constant low-level fighting and several clashes with advanced 1st world powers) and instructors deployable to UWA.

Makoure:

Blaise was outraged. How dare these foreigners, these thugs, talk to them like they were chattel in their own villages, their own homes? An impulsive man, he did the first thing that came to his mind. Clutching the megaphone in his calloused, dust covered hands he shouted back to his comrades exactly what the paratrooper commander had said in every language spoken in the camp.

The result was a deafening roar. The unionists spat in the direction of the soldiers, thrusting fists and guns into the air. Spontaneously, they began to form a human wall to block their entrance into the town. It was a scene reminiscent of the Revolution, Africans of disparate tribes which had been fighting each other in living memory banding together against a common foe. If the Mississippians wanted in, they'd either have to break the human barricade. They'd had their chance to ask nicely.

Massacre site:

The men identify themselves as union reps and cautiously inquire.. "What sort of trouble are we talking about? We told you people that moving this many men in was a bad idea. Look, if some of your men were hurt, it wasn't under our orders, we assure you."

Elsewhere:

Mississippian forces are informed anonymously that the hostages have been left in a small, abandoned building in Conakry. It seems the hostage takers realized their cause was lost and they were causing more harm than good. But was it to late to diffuse the powder keg that was about to be set off in the UWA?

Communication to Lusaka:

The response, generally, is positive. Lusakan aid is accepted but warning is given that advisors and weapons should wait till CM's 24 hour welcome has been overstaid.

The residents of all the towns and the small farming community had asked the paratroopers to place charges in their houses. They had to leave their homes, and in the words of one resident, "If we're leaving, I surely don't want a nig--- taking over, leave him nothing but a pile of rubble."

All the buildings in the villages were being rigged with charges, the farmers in the small farming community were spraying poison over all their crops, if they weren't going to have the crops, nobody would.

They burned their own farmhouses, blew up their own tractors, and destroyed their own cars and trucks.

A corporal was just finishing setting the charges in a farmhouse. "Hurry up", yelled a captain.

The paratroopers were escorting the last few citizens out of the towns and into nearby C-130s that had landed in dirt fields.

As the C-130s left the charges began to go off. The C-130s were going to fly to Mississippi with the citizens, and then come back for the soldiers. The Paratroopers of the 3rd and 4th Divisions were happy, their job was basically done. All they had to do was wait and they'd be out of this rotten land in about 18 hours, hopefully sooner.

But the 1st and 2nd Parachute Divisions each had their own problems, and they only had about 18 hours to solve them. The 1st Division was trying to find the party of bandits who massacred the white citizens. With the way communications are here, it's likely rumors will fly fast and people will just know that Africans are dead before the 'bandit' part reaches them."

Makoure:

The town was still a hotbed of anger and it didn't seem like it was going to subside. The Miners actually advanced on the soldiers now, moving forward in a straight line and holding their rifles and pistols our like pikes. By now, word should have reached the troops that the hostages had been found.

Mining camp of the massacred town.

General Philippe Bon of the 1st Parachute Division speaking with the miners. "We'll be out of here about 6 hours, so it doesn't matter if people don't like us killing them, just lead us to them. Please, we need your help. I'm sure I can compensate you with money if the food isn't enough. How much do you want?" (Takes out a large manila envelope from his pack) "$25,000 enough?" (Occ- note, most generals and colonels carry large amounts of money)

At the mining camp near the secured town.

The soldiers of the 2nd Parachute Division had not received word that their citizens were found; they had been having radio trouble. The radiomen had been working around the clock to fix the main radios, the problem was the humidity of the place, the dehumidifiers in the radios weren't working properly. But better to find out now than in battle. The soldiers were beginning to get nervous the miners had closed to about 500 yards.

One of the paratroopers who was standing behind a tree moved to readjust himself, his rifle slipped from his hands and discharged.

(General Antonio Don Juan Miguel) (To his soldiers via the public announcement system) "They're firing at us. Open Fire!!!"

Over 6,000 M-14s came to life and deadly accurate fire was rained down on the miners, 30 mortars also joined in, then there were the dozens of machine guns, squad automatic weapons, the 25 MK-17 grenade launchers from the hummers, the 25 M-2 .50 caliber machine guns from the hummers, the 25 7.62mm machineguns from the hummers. Massive amounts of well-aimed munitions were fired at the miners. It was going to be a bloodbath.

As reports of fighting erupting in West Africa top officials in the Edolian High Command were getting nervous. In the morning after reports of a massacre of miners by Mississippian forces, a memo found itself on the Imperator's desk.

"At this time, the Scarlet Empire has a number of possible actions that we can take, none of them particularly satisfying or productive in the short run. The first is to ignore the situation and avoid war. This would have the downside of weakening our position and our reputation among African nations and would serve to undermine our claim to being a defender of developing nations. A war with Communist Mississippi, even with our Hattian allies supporting us, would be quite bloody, but the outcome could be extremely beneficial to all involved. We could also impose economic sanctions and, as a spit-in-the-eye to the imperialists, help the West Africans build up their military and economy to modern standards. Whatever we do, we should make sure that we have the support of the West African government. We do not wish to act in their name but go against their wishes. This would be the most disasterous foreign policy move of them all."

Erik von Blatterschplitt read the memo with some level of thought. Nodding to himself, he began to type an open communique to all parties.

"The Edolian government cannot stand by and watch while defenseless Africans are slaughtered by foreign imperialists. The deployment of thousands of Mississippian forces to West Africa -enough to dominate the country utterly- was an irresponsible and aggressive act that we cannot ignore. However, this is not our fight unless the West Africans or the Mississippians make it ours. Therefore, we shall make it clear that the full might of the Scarlet Empire is at the disposal of United West Africa. We advise the Mississippians to bow to their miliary superiors."

A second communique was sent to the West African government.

"We are fully prepared to fight a war against Communist Mississippi, but believe that peace should be strived for. Therefore, we would like to know what response we should take if Mississippians do not withdraw in the promised timeframe. Over ten carrier groups are ready to be deployed to break the blockade if requested and Edolian para-forces could easily land in West Africa to drive out the Mississippian troops. We await your reply."

The men gasped. $25000 was more money than they'd seen or were likely to see in their entire lives. Even distributed amongst the whole camp, this could keep families fed for months, maybe even purchase vaccines from abroad. "Allright. We won't go up there with you, but we'll draw you the probable route on a map. Here, give me a marker or something.."

Makoure:

It had begun. At the first report of gunfire the massed militant unionists replied with their own burst of fusilade, spraying wildly at the Mississippian soldiers before their superior firepower cut many down. In the resulting battle many broke from the lines and fled, taking cover wherever it was to be found, but few escaped the initial attack. Mississipian mortars blew hundreds to shreds, but in the end a good portion of the dead ended up being women and children blown apart by stray bullets and errant mortar rounds.

Moments later, the Mississippian troops recieved a taste of their own medicine. From behind, dozens of light mortar shells and anti-personnel rocket proppelled grenades began to pepper the mass of troops (made more vulnerable by their concentration in a relatively small area. Units from the National Army had stationed themselves near the various mining camps in preparation for trouble. Soldiers began to advance and take positions on the rocky, uneven terrain. Though the unit numbered only around 3500 men, it had gained the element of surprise and stood ready to take CM forces in the rear once their men were assembled.

-----------------------------------------------------

Word of the massacre at Makoure reached the central government by radio, over a network that was barely adequate for official communications. Prime Minister Dubou struggled to contain his outrage as he heard the news from both Army radio and transmissions from friendly Edolian forces. The filter lit cigarette he held in his hand was nearly crushed between his own fingers.

In the briefing room of the modestly furnished executive compound, Dubou wasted no time reading off a list of directives to his generals and adviors. "First thing's first. A state of war officially exists between United West Africa and Communist Mississippi, and their units will continue to be attacked unless they leave the country immediately. Have whatever Army units that area around their airbases attack their planes and helicopters on the ground if they have the appropriate weapons to do so. Also, have police and troops near Conakry, Freetown, an Monrovia organizes citizen's militias in case the cities are attacked and we need to perform a delaying action. Order more troops towards Makoure to hit the bastards on their other flank, and have the units assaulting them already ordered to pin them own for the next 8 hours at any cost.

"Second, contact the Edolians. Tell them we accept their assistance and will allow any troops, vehicles, and aircraft they wish into our borders and airspace. If they don't know already, tell them the obvious; that our ability to provide air cover is virtually nil. And one last thing.. let them know exactly what we're dealing with. That a negotiated settlement is virtually impossible, the timetable is totally out the window, and that peace will only come when those damned redneck butchers are out of our country for good. If the Edolians feel it necessary, they have our express permission to send the blockade ships to the bottom of the sea. Everyone got that?"

Dubou clapped his rough, slightly pudgy hands together to make sure everyone was paying very close attention. "Then get to it! We don't have much time."

At the secured town, the 6,000 paratroopers in the town heard the gunfire about 1 mile down the road, they raced off the help their friends, they would end up hitting in the rear those forces hitting their friends in the rear (also note we all wear level 3 body armor with front and rear plates, as is standard for a 1st world industrialized army). General Miguel ordered his snipers to take out the enemy mortar crews to the rear.

The 3rd and 4th Parachute Divisions had already pulled out in their C-130s, the 1,000 Paratroopers from the 1st Parachute Division near the capital swiftly moved in via hummers to report about what happened to the village. The vehicles all hanged white flags out the windows as signs of peace.

At the secured town the radiomen finally got the radio working, a corporal raced to a lieutenant. "Sir we're to start pulling out now, they've found everybody."

General Miguel yelled into the public announcement system on his hummer, "Cease fire!" "Cease Fire!" The firing died down at about the same time 6,000 paratroopers showed up behind the militia that had surprised their friends. They nervously pointed their guns at them, the colonel who was leading them said, "Don't even think about."

Faced with 6,000 M-14s and SAWs pointed at their backs, the 3,500 men stopped firing, and the area grew quiet.

General Antonio Don Juan Miguel would have to talk his way out of this trouble.

The 2nd Parachute Division counted 21 dead and 98 wounded. They weren't sure how many enemies they had killed.

Miguel spoke over the public announcement, "We're going back down the road towards the town, and we're going to leave. Just stay out of our way, and we'll be gone in less than an hour."

General Miguel handed a briefcase to one of his soldiers, "Here, take this to the mining camp leader." The soldier walked forward, holding a white flag in one hand, the briefcase in the other. He reached the mining camp, "My General says he is sorry for the misunderstanding, he doesn't know who fired first, but he says we must leave, he gives you this as a sign of peace. He asks that you don't fire at us and that you make sure your comrades on the hills don't fire either." He sets the briefcase down and then slowly backs away. (Inside the case is $500,000)

The 6,500 soldiers of the 1st Parachute under General Philippe Bon heard loud shouts, and people shooting rifles into the air (The bandits drunken celebration). The paratroopers crept into positions around the bandit camp. They would make ready to launch their attack, they'd move in quick, kill them all, and then move out and head for the C-130s.

In the capital city, the Paratrooper Colonel informs the president that bandits massacred a town of whites, and that soldiers from the 2nd Parachute Division were possibly engaging the bandits. The colonel also assures the presiden that much of the CM forces have already left, and that more are leaving as they speak, it's only a matter of about 1-2 hours before they're fully out. He tells the president that as a token of appreciation, they are leaving him a Hummer and $100,000 cash.

Note- the 3rd and 4th Parachute Divisions have already left, the 1st and 2nd will be leaving in about 1 hour, they're just making the promised deadline. :)

"Sir!" The Imperator Erik von Blatterschplitt rolled over in his bed as his aide rushed in. Glancing at his watch, the monarch saw that it was three in the morning.
"What do you want?" he asked groggily.
"Sir!" the aide repeated, "the Africans have contacted us. It seems that the fighting was worse than we had expected. Thousands of dead. They declared war just an hour ago." Suddenly the Imperator was awake.
"Have they requested aid?"
"Yes sir."
"Very well. Schedule a press conference, but first, I want to see my advisors in my office immediately." Erik von Blatterschplitt grimaced.
"The Imperium is going to war!"

---

Ten minutes later, a group of high-ranking men and women were assembled in the Imperator's office. A far more informal meeting than the normal national security conferences, most of those attending were in night clothes. General Zhang Daming spoke first, as he normally did.
“The question isn’t whether or not we’re going to war now. It’s how hard we hit these bastards.”
“Agreed, Daming,” the Imperator cut in. “I honestly don’t believe it’s in the long-term interests of the Imperium to fight a war in Mississippi. However, sending their fleet to the bottom of the ocean would send a very strong message. Mikhail.” He turned to his Grand Admiral, who was rubbing sleepy-seeds from his eyes. “How soon can the 1st and 2nd Battle Fleets be off the coast of West Africa?” The Admiral looked up long enough to respond.
“Ten days.”

---

The 1st Battle Fleet, harbored in the Edolian district of Axackal and the 2nd, in the city of Gerburg, both began to move out. Travelling South through the Haven Straights, they would make their way East, going to Africa from the Northwest. They will arrive within ten days. Each fleet contains:

6 Mackensen Class battleships
3 Leviathon/E Class battleships
4 Thunder Child Class battleships (Mk.2 Refit)
2 Infusion/E Class aircraft carrier – 10 Squadrons
1 Lunar/E Class aircraft carrier - 12 Squadrons
15 Centaur Class (Modified) missile destroyers
12 Wave Knight missile destroyers
8 Meteora Class missile destroyers

5 Africa Class minesweeper/layer
3 Tribal Class mine hunters
5 Saviour Class medical ships

8 Sea Wolf Class fast attack submarines
6 Magnificent Class fast attack submarines
10 Astron Class fast attack submarines
8 Warspite Class SSGN

(Not counting support craft, which are not indicated)

The 48 squadrons of fighters are broken up into the following arrangement:
18 YT/A-2 Hellion unmanned stealth fighter/interceptors -- 216
18 YT/A-3 Hellion unmanned stealth fighter/bombers -- 216
12 YT/A-2 support variants – 144

In the meantime, while the Edolian fleet moves to lift the Mississippian blockade, the freighters and support craft turn around and head back to friendly waters at top speeds.

---

Deep in the bowels of one of Edolia’s many mountainside air-hangers, four squadrons of the Scarlet Empire’s top bombers were preparing for take-off. 24 Garuda class hypersoar bombers made their way out of the hangers and soared into the sky. The strange-looking craft were some of Edolia’s most expensive military equipement. As their massive scramjet engines propelled them into the upper atmosphere, their tertiary engines kicked in, projecting them into space. The Garuda is designed to enage in long-range missions and speeds that would be impossible to match for a conventional aircraft. “Riding” the atmosphere, the Garudas can achieve speeds of up to mach10, making them very difficult to shoot down. These 24 Garudas in question were to target and strike at the Mississippian aircraft carriers. Four bombers were assigned to each of the six carriers.

<<OOC: Note that the following can be ignored if you have something to stop the bombers. I just want to explain what would happen if they get through (to save time).>>

As they neared the fleets, each dropped 6 large, oval metal objects, which fell through the atmosphere… at just ten meters above the water, their heavy casings fell off and their engines roared into life, propelling them forward towards the carriers and giving them very little opportunity to strike at them…

<<OOC: Note that the hypersoar bomber is still in the design phase with the US military but it is expected to be used by the USAF in the not-so-distant future.>>

---

Across Edolia, hundreds of thousands of troops are being mobilized for deployment to United West Africa. Some eight parachute divisions will be ready to move within two days…

<<OOC: I’m going to be in Spain for a while, but I hope to be able to get to the computer sometimes. Don’t expect more than one or two posts a day at the most from me… it would be nice if this could be a small military RP so I don’t have to read massive amounts each day. The Mississippi fleet was about to lift the blockade themselves as the deadline was nearing. They simply radio the other fleet and tell them, "You may pass, we're on our way back to Mississippi."

The 1st Parachute Division soldiers commanded by General Philippe Bon were back at the town getting ready to board the C-130s, they had left none of the bandits alive, save for a few camp followers, children and women who were with the bandits. But all the men who had guns were killed. It was a complete surprise attack, most of them were drunk or under the influence of narcotics. They had lost none of their own men, but 23 were wounded.

The soldiers in the 2nd Parachute Division also cautiously walked back to town, the C-130s were coming in, and they would land in dirt fields. The soldiers began to board them.

The 1st Parachute Division was airborne, as they flew over the mining camp that had helped them, the general ordered a few of the supply C-130s to drop some supplies of food and water to them. As promised it was about 30,000 MREs (32,147 to be exact) and 600 gallons of water. The parachutes opened and the supplies drifted down to the mining camp.

The 2nd Parachute Division finished boarding their C-130s and began to take off.

West Africa would soon go from front-page news in CM to 2nd page, 3rd page, and then the back page, and then the people would forget about it.

They would forget about the heroic actions of the paratroopers who jumped into the unknown and possibly hostile country. The 21 dead and 98 wounded from the 2nd Parachute Division. The 23 wounded from the 1st Parachute Division.

The almost 5,000 soldiers who had contracted some form of tropical illness (Malaria, dysentery, etc). The Paratroopers had suffered through 24 hours of hell for their countrymen. West Africa would take its place on the list of over a dozen such places that few could point out on a map, that most had only heard of once or twice. That most could not accurately picture the conditions unless they had actually been there.

The troops had carried out their dead and helped the wounded limp out. The C-130s were now flying off into the distance as the sun was beginning to go down behind the clouds. Nobody was left behind, dead or alive, they were all going home.

All the C-130s were over the Atlantic Ocean; they'd be back in Mississippi soon. The soldiers from the 2nd Parachute Division left with the impression that the African was as violent as they had been told. The soldiers from the 1st Parachute Division left with the impression that while most Africans were probably violent, the ones they encountered at the mine near the massacred town seemed nice enough, they had helped them find the guilty party.

At the hour of Mississippi's departure, celebration erupted throughout the major cities of Unified West Africa. The ring of joyous, undirected gunfire fills the air along with homemade firecrackers. Demonstrators from the Socialist Party marched through the streets in their strongholds of the Conakry slums, waving red flags and singing the original French Internationale. Similar jubilation appeared throughout the countryside, accompanied by the beating of drums and traditional tribal dances of victory and prestige.

The bandits were badly bloodied and mostly routed, as it was their tendancy to flee from an overwhelmingly superior force. The band had disintegrated, never to be reformed.

But it had not come without a price. Estimates varied from 200-300 miners massacred by Mississippian troops, and 45 soldiers had died during the brief exchange of mortar and gunfire that had followed. Clearly, all was still not well. There was a hint of resentment at the government for even allowing CM troops in the country in the first place. Some were saying the paratroopers should have been shot on sight, though it was well known the UWA military had little chance of a conventional victory.

Dubou had to do something to make it appear as if the Federation was not and is not caving into pressure. To that effect, he released the following statement.

"For the crimes the Mississippian troops brutally and systematically commited against our people, a permanent state of hostilities exists between our two countries. UWA airspace is hereby restricted from all Communist Mississippi aircraft, commercial or military. Any Mississippian aircraft over our airpspace will be shot down without warning. The same goes for naval vessels. Also, the UWA hereby poses economic sanctions upon Mississippi. No exports to or from the country will be allowed to the UWA."

(OOC: That might not seem like alot but the diamonds, gold and uranium previously being imported from CM owned mines is pretty much totally cut off now.)

"We will continue en route to your coastline with the 1st Battle Fleet in order to secure your defense, but seeing that the Mississippians are withdrawing, the 2nd battlefleet will return to Edolian waters.

Due to continuing pressures on developing nations in Africa, and our wish to promote socialist governments in the region, we would like to establish a moderately-large military base on your soil. We would expect it to base two divisions, a naval detachment and a number of squadrons of fighters -approximately 60,000 people all together. We will pay for the upkeep of the base and all other necessary costs. Furthermore, this military base could be used as a training center for West African soldiers, who could benefit from Edolia's extensive military expertise. The soldiers on the base would also be helpful in the defense of UWA and in defending the rights of independent African nations throughout the region. We also see this military base as quite potentially beneficial to the West African economy as it will provide a massive boost to the populace living in the area of the military base, creating a significant opportunity for work. We hope that your government will accept our offer."

You cannot put a price on human lives. 5 billion, as much as we'd like it, is totally unacceptable. We will never allow trade with a nation that keeps its black population in shackles. We will lift the permanent state of hostilities if the 5 billion is coupled with a public apology, (terms we don't expect thick headed goons like you to accept) but until equal rights are returned to its own citizens we will not finance CM brutality and oppression.

To Edolia:

We find this proposal acceptable and are setting aside an area for the base just outside of Conakry. Your actions, taken at great risk to your own soldiers without request for compensation, lead us to trust that your intentions are good. Conakry is almost entirely a slum town, and the influx of hard-currency bearing soldiers will certainly be a boon to the local economy. Work cadres are already being formed, employing thousands, to clear and level the land in question for construction.

Press Release: June 25, 20??
Edolian Ministry of Information
--"Plans were unveiled this morning for the construction of a massive military complex on the coast of United West Africa. Fort Conakry will be the main base for Edolian operations in Africa, which are expected to increase over the course of the next few years as efforts are stepped up to support socialist and nationalist movements in nations around the continent. Expected to provide employment for some 100,000 West Africans, the military base will house over 60,000 Edolian soldiesr, sailors and support perssonel and bring in an estimated $100,000,000 a year to the West African people. The Edolian and West African governments are still negotiating the details of the land deal, but the Edolian government has offered to pay full rental price for the land. Besides being used as protection for United West Africa and a staging area for Edolian operations elsewhere in the region, Fort Conakry will serve as a training base for some of UWA troops that will be trained in Edolian combat techniques."--

Diplomatic Communique to the United West African Government
"Approval from the Imperator has been given for the Scarlet Army to form, equip and train a single mechanized infantry division for the UWA government. If the offer is accepted, they will be equiped and trained using all of the same practices used by the Edolian armed forces, including advanced combat suits and weaponry. The only difference between a regular Edolian division and the division that will be created would be the level of training in the soldiers. While Edolian troops are recruited at the age of four, and thus spend nearly twenty years training, we do not believe that you would be willing to wait so long, nor would it be feasible given the economic situation in your country. However, the division, which would consist of some 10,000 soldiers, could be constructed entirely of your most elite and combat-trained soldiers, giving them a level of expertise that would be similar to that found in the Edolian military. We await your response."

<<OOC: Alright... I'm going to Spain for about a month and a half, and will be on NS rather sporadically (which is why I'm glad that this war didn't really come to fruition... I was thinking, that if you were willing, we could continue roleplaying in the future. I should be able to be online a bit over the next few weeks (although I probably wont have access to a computer until after the forums are shut down and restarted anew [I'm looking forward to that greatly!]) so I can work some on the UWA-Edolian relationship (if you're willing of course). OOC: That's fine. We'll work on developing that relatioship a bit when you manage to get online, but for now I'll just reply and maybe make a few posts updating the UFA situation.

IC:

Prime Minister Dubou has set Edolian plans to the national legislature and the local Conakry governing council, and the plans have been approved by a wide margin.. but with reservations. We agree in principal to the training of a mechanized division, but we must warn you that the UFA has few support vehicles and even fewer tanks and IFVs. Sergeants from this new division will be usedto train our own remaining troops as well, so hopefully Edolian knowledge and expertise can be spread throughout our armed forces.

Also, legislature has recommended any vehicle training UFA soldiers recieve should be accomanied by technical advise for our arms manufacturing industry on how to make relacement parts. This is to assure we don't have to order new parts from abroad every time a rifle jams up or a tire gets blown.

Diplomatic message from the Minister of Diplomacy

Hattia is quite saddened at the deaths of many people that have resulted from this situation. We would like to see that it never happens again. To help acheive the previously mentioned goal, Hattia also would like to establish a large base within UWA borders. Hattia would also like to help equip the UWA military with the latest in Hattian military technology and training. This base would be similar in size to that of the Edolian base that the UWA government already has authorized. We will also deliver your supplies that have been waiting offshore because of the blockade. It consists of T-90H's (With 155mm guns), Crossbow class IFVs, Mig-31s, and various types of small arms.
