OOC: After I said I would not attack any one in my war with The Deadly Viper, Nellisland has insulted me and I am not going to take it.

you cant expect to attack a nation and not have interferance from his allies and regionmates and I dont think Nellisland will want your soldiers in his region so they wont be going there. I have a list of regions who are going to eliminate you as soon as they hear that you have attacked their regionmate so surrender now and we will only decommision
3 quarters of your miletary or fight and when we win we will destroy it all

(He has a point unfortunatly, there would be allies coming to join their attacked comrade. Also I would think both parties would have to agree before the topic could be considered a closed RP. Though about Deadly Viper's mentiong a number of regions willing to take you out...I think there shouldn't be a total ass stomping but..yub.)

President Mike Sarzo happened to be on the bridge while Captain Charles Nelson and Commander Travis Moraine were in the situation room. He noticed something on the radar screen.

"What's that?"

A lieutenant hadn't been paying very close attention and as he was glancing said, "oh, it's noth..." He stopped dead in his tracks, immediately hitting the intercom.

"Captain Nelson to the bridge immediately!"

Nelson and Moraine raced in.

"Report?"

"It looks like 10 Tomahawk missiles are headed toward targets in Nellisland."

"Red alert! Mr. President, you'll need to return to your quarters."

Sarzo didn't move.

"Mr. President!"

"I'm staying right here. What are you going to do about the missiles?"

"Shoot them down."

The missile defense systems aboard the ships in the Sarzonian fleet fired at the incoming missiles.

"When you find out who the hell fired those missiles, get me on the horn with them," Sarzo said as he stormed back to his quarters. He went into his quarters and slammed the door. He then picked up his cell phone.

"Nicole? This is Mike. Looks like we've got more problems. Someone just launched 10 missiles against Nellisland. Get our missile defense systems ready and have John mobilize as much of the navy as we can. Once we find out who did it, there'll be serious hell to pay."

"Got it. Should I notify Parliament?"

"When I find out definitively who did it."

"Understood."

Sarzo hung up. The intercom came in from Commander Moraine.

"Sir, we've discovered that it was Cam III." [OOC: If this is impossible for us to know, I'll edit it out.]

"Figures," Sarzo said with a roll of his eyes. He picked his phone back up.

See! This is what I am talking about! He is unprepared to go to war with anyone! Now I usually don't feel like acting this way but Cam III is a special case.

Also I pretty much have no military. You would know if you checked my RP on my new government but I don't expect anyone is isn't involved in it to know it so don't worry about it!

One more thing! You can't close an RP until things have been set. I think we established that in your dumb war with Viper the other day. Attacking me would be a attack on my region. A whole bunch of people who really hate you from my region would help me and no one would help you because you closed it. Also Sarzonia has a peace keeping force in my region along with some other nations. They make up what military I have. Attacking them would be an act of war and I don't think you want that...again! So please back off and I'll forget this whole situation.

the call was put through informing marshal pythonus of the enemy ships and within minuits a detachment of 30 sea fang class stealth submarines were dispatched from the main harbour on a observation mission they were to follow the enemy navy and attack if intentions were hostile

Captain Nelson contacted Admiral Marcus Patinkin about the launches. Additional anti-missile defense systems opened their fire on the incoming missiles.

In his cabin, Sarzo called House Speaker Josh Williams.

"Josh, it looks like we've got Cam III launching missiles against Nellisland."

"Say what?"

"They launched 10 missiles initially and now just launched 35 more."

"Unbelievable. What should we do?"

"First of all, warn Cam III to stand down. If they don't, I'm going to need to be able to do something else."

"I'll motion for a war declaration if you want, Mike."

"Let's sit on that for a minute."

"I'll put it through. You can approve it if you feel it's necessary. Remember you hold veto rights over a declaration of war."

"Understood."

Parliament voted to declare war and sent the declaration to Sarzo's laptop. He would click his ascent or rejection when he felt ready to make the decision.

In the meantime, Navy Chief John Newman sent three Royal Holly-class aircraft carriers, four Royal Edmund-class carriers, 20 Province-class cruisers, two Randolph-class cruisers, 10 air defense destroyers and 15 frigates to international waters around Cam III. Additionally, seven attack submarines, six guided missile submarines, and three ballistic missile submarines set off for the same international waters.

Sarzo sent the following message to Cam III:

This is President Mike Sarzo of the Incorporated States of Sarzonia. You have just committed an act of naked aggression against an ally of Sarzonia. You are ordered to stand your military down within [2 RL hours] or we will consider your presence in the area an act of war against Sarzonia and respond accordingly.

Sarzo also sent the following message to Aust:

Your ally Cam III has committed an act of war against our ally. If you do not want this situation to escalate any further, you will stand your military down. If you summon any other countries, remember that we can do the same. The choice is yours.

Sarzo angrily hit send on both telegrams. He also packed his bag, took his laptop and cell phone, and left his cabin to go below decks on the Endymion. He scoped out a room that served as an emergency command center in the event the bridge was destroyed.

"That damn coward," Sarzo said when he thought about Cam III.

He pulled out his cell phone and called Vice President for Defense Terrence Wilson.

"Terry, I need you to do me a big favor. Contact our allies and ask for their help. In addition, arm the tungsten rods and aim them at Cam III."

"Mr. President?"

"Just do it!"

"Understood sir."

"Let the end games begin," Sarzo thought.

One more thing! When Cam III was trying to go to war with viper the other day he fired nukes at all nations in the world including his allies. My point is that Aust, I would be rather upset right now.

My ships are designed to appear low-tech but are some of the fastest on the sea, designed for speed and stelath, they can take on a variety of ship shapes making them very stealthy. Very few weapons but pretty good defense and amazing speed.

\In the Sylarian Ocean Mid-Night/

A Cam III Ship floats on the water, a man is smoking a cigarette on the side of the boat.

A shadow drops onto the deck behind him. The shadow makes no noise.

The shadow grabs the man face over the mouth and slits his throat with a kunai.

The man falls to the floor, dead, as many other shadows climb onto the deck of the Cam III ship. The ninja picks up the dead body and throws it overboard saying

"Pirate rule number 16, no lights or candles on after 8'oclock."

"So the deadline has passed," Captain Nelson said on the direct connection to President Mike Sarzo, sitting in the emergency command center on the Endymion.

"They had their chance," Sarzo said. He moved the cursor to the button marked Accept on Parliament's declaration of war. All he had to do was press the button and Sarzonia would have officially declared war.

"Notify the fleets," Sarzo said.

"Acknowledged."

Meanwhile, Admiral Patinkin paced nervously aboard the new aircraft carrier ISS Nelson (named after the Endymion captain's father). He monitored the communications console to find out what Sarzo was doing. A single bead of sweat snaked down the right side of his face. He drew a shallow breath.

Sarzo hesitated for a moment at the button, but then quietly bit his lip. He thought about all that transpired since the ugly civil war that had threatened to drive a stake in the hearts and psyches of the nation. He thought about a country that had at one time been on the brink of war with Sarzonia, but now needed her help. He thought about a country that once extended its right hand in friendship to Sarzonia, but concealed a dagger in its left.

"So help me God," Sarzo croaked in a sound that barely was above a whisper. He pushed the button.

The message flashed back to Parliament, and a Insidious-class destroyer sent to ferry the President back to Sarzonia docked alongside the Endymion. Sarzo grabbed his cell phone and his laptop and the clothes he took with him and boarded the boat that took him to the destroyer. Once he was aboard, the ship took off for Sarzonia.

Aboard the destroyer, Sarzo picked up the cell phone and called Admiral Nelson, who was still at Socialist Cockroaches leading the massive fleet that was helping to occupy the defeated country.

"Charles, I'm going to need you to send a majority of your ships to Cam III. I believe you just heard the news."

"That I did sir."

"Leave a small squadron of ships to monitor the situation over there, but you're going to take the brunt of your fleets to Cam III. Now that we're in a state of war, we're going to form a blockade."

"Understood, Mr. President." Sarzo hung up. He looked out a porthole at the waves. The sea's calm belied the future storm that was about to envelope several countries.

Sarzo picked his cell phone back up and called Vice President for Defense Terrence Wilson.

"Wilson."

"This is Mike. Make sure Sarzonia One is ready to take me back to Woodstock as soon as I arrive in Nicksia."

"Understood."

As the destroyer neared the Sarzonian coastline, Sarzo gave one final command.

"Unleash the hounds."

With that, Wilson turned to the console that controlled the targeting of the tungsten rods. Five of them locked in on Cam III's capital, five more locked in at a plant believed to be where weapons of mass destruction were manufactured. Five more targeted the trajectories of the missiles launched by Cam III at Nellisland after the GPS positioning located a probable origin point.

He pushed the button and 15 tungsten rods streaked from the sky toward their designated targets.

The SSBNs and SSGNs in international waters surrounding Cam III also received their targeting coordinates and launched their conventional payloads [OOC: Three apiece]. The surface ships in the Sarzonian fleet launched three missiles apiece at their targets.

As a Bastion-class battleship, five Arizona-class battleships, the four Leningrad-class battleships made the reinforcement fleet's first approach to Cam III, they launched their in-range weapons at Cam III. An amphibious assault team prepared to launch an invasion at nightfall.

OOC: Can I get a summary of the situation? From what I can tell, Cam III, a fledgling space nation, is attacking Nellisland, part of my region which has several active members with kickass military and exceptional RP skills among modern nations. Is this accurate?

The missile defense sirens in Sarzonia suddenly sounded. People throughout the country started scurrying for shelter and the anti-missile weaponry launched. The defense system was already at full alert expecting an attack from another country [OOC: Artitsa] and Parliament girded for war anyway, so there was little surprise. The anti-missile defenses throughout the country opened fire, knocking down most of them.

However, several slammed into targets near Wilmington and Nicksia, knocking out communciations towers, though most of the sytems re-routed to other locations. Three missiles slammed into the Vincennes, which was being prepared as a Sarzonian Civil War monument.

Sarzo had just gotten to the Gray House when he saw the scurring. He heard the shouting and asked Senior Vice President for Internal Affairs Nicole Lewis what was happening.

"Cam III just launched an attack against us!" she said with panic.

"Everyone to the underground shelters!" Sarzo yelled. Since his laptop was already in hand, he raced down the steps. He pushed a button that set off an alarm throughout Woodstock. Parliament Hall and the John Paul Stevens building all quickly evacuated.

Sarzo got everyone into an emergency underground train to go to an undisclosed location and the train sped away from Woodstock as three missile slammed into the Gray House, destroying the Presidential home. Parliament Hall also took two missile hits and firefighters started working around the clock to try to prevent the same fate from befalling the home of the legislature.

The leadership of Sarzonia all convened in one of the cars of the speeding train.

"It looks damn ugly," House Speaker Josh Williams said.'

"It is damn ugly Josh," Sarzo said.

"What are you going to do?"

"The only thing I can do. Appear before nationwide television and let everyone know we're still alive. Also, coordinate with our missile defense systems to prevent a further attack."

"They apparently launched those from space though."

"We have something up our sleeves too, remember?"

Sarzo pulled out an old style walkie talkie that had been programmed to contact the military's central command in Nicksia. They were underground as well.

"It's payback time."

The command launched several ICBMS at the location of the first missile attacks. Twenty tungsten rods locked in on the Cam III fleet and fired.

The aircraft carriers launched and the B2 stealth bombers launched their payloads against the Cam III fleet.

"If we're going down, we're going to do down fighting," Sarzo said.

It was another blustery North Atlantic day when the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, Sir George Fredericks, received word of an attack on their ally, Sarzonia. He rang the Prime Minister immediately.

"Prime Minister, President Sarzo has requested assistance against an enemy attack," Sir George declared. "It seems to be coming from sea and space."

"Oh hell," Oliver Yardmouth answered from behind his oak desk. "At least the Defence Forces were already gearing up for war games." He glanced at the order of battle provided by his Chief of Defence Staff for the proposed exercise. "Well, I'll inform the MoD, and you tell President Sarzo we're on our way."

The four branches of the Isselmere-Nieland Defence Forces -- the Navy (RINN), the Army (INA), the Air Force (RINAF), and the Space Service (RINSS) -- were placed on high alert. The Solquist Sea Fleet was sent to the waters off Nellisland to protect that nation's shores. The modest RINSS fleet (armed with short-range high powered (for me) lasers and missile weapons) was sent to search and destroy the Cam III orbital station if necessary.

[OOC: At least I don't remember your directly addressing me while I was in the thick of tensions with Aust and a battle with Cam III. From an IC standpoint, I was much too busy with dealing with those two.

From an OOC standpoint, It's hard to *force* someone to acknowledge an RP, though I tend to prefer an explicit ignore to acting like you didn't even read the post. ]

[OOC: RPing NationStates is definitely an adjustment. I've done several different RPs (stuff like Gurps or D&D and also SpaceQuest, which is a Star Trek-esque RP but it was also free form so I have some familiarity with this style), but this is a little bit different from any of the others I've done.

The latest developments met with some extraordinary relief in the bunker where the government of Sarzonia huddled during the Cam III attacks. The standing down of both Aust and Cam III meant the government could re-surface. The members of Sarzonia's government then returned to the surface and went back to Woodstock to assess the damage.

"It looks like Parliament Hall is salvagable," House Speaker Josh Williams said. "It will take a while to repair it, though." However, his optimism turned to a gasp of shock and sadness when he saw what the smoldering rubble where the Gray House once stood.

"I'm so sorry Mike" Williams said.

Sarzo sighed.

"Right now, we have more pressing concerns," Sarzo said. He pulled out his cell phone.

"I need to speak to the Max Yasgur Center. Yes, the center for the performing arts," Sarzo said.

"Yes, Mr. President?" came the voice on the other end.

"We're going to need one of your larger rooms for Parliament to meet in until we repair Parliament Hall."

"Understood. You can have the Graham Nash Theatre. It seats 700."

"Thank you for your service to Sarzonia."

"You're welcome Mr. President."

Sarzo then turned to Senior Vice President for External Affairs Mark Lorber.

"Looks like your work is definitely cut out for you," Sarzo said. "Not only are you going to have to broker a peace settlement between us and Cam III, but you're also going to have to negotiate with Aust about that declaration of hostility."

"Didn't they say that they would drop theirs if we come to a peace agreement with Cam III?"

"Yes, but you don't just drop hostility with someone and forget about the reasons behind it. There are several underlying issues that we need to address with Aust. If national honor is as paramount to them as they make us believe it is, we would do ill not to address and resolve our differences."

"Um, I see your point," Lorber said. He visualized a long trip to both Cam III and Aust in the offering. He almost wish he could put those toward frequent flyer mile packages and take a vacation.

"Granzi has agreed to hold the peace talks," Sarzo said. "You'll only have to travel to one other country and you should only need to adjust to one other time zone different from Woodstock's."

"Thanks, Mike." Lorber chuckled. Sarzo's sense of humor returned after what seemed like an eternity.

"Now, what about the Gray House?"

"We'll have a team of the best engineers in Sarzonia working to rebuild it. Hopefully, Becky's okay." Right then, Sarzo received a text message from her. In it, she said she was fine and all files that were destroyed in the Gray House were backed up in the underground bunker below the Gray House that survived the attack. Both photocopies and disk backups allowed the country to get right back to speed, even though the Gray House would have to undergo massive reconstruction.

An architect came over to Sarzo and handed him some plans.

"Hmm, interesting." The next design of the Gray House was to be built with a titanium alloy at least two meters thick with the structure reinforced in key areas. It was going to be designed to take just about anything but a tungsten rod.

The pilot of Sarzonia Three contacted the tower in Granzi's capital.

"Control tower this is Sarzonia Three. We request permission to land. Over."

OOC: Sorry for the long wait.

IC: Air traffic controllers have recieved a inbound transmission at Hybalt International Airport, located in Granzi City. (And owned by Hybalt Industries. :wink: ) An immediate reply was sent back, giving the Sarzonian pilot exact coordinates and clearing permission to land. A similar transmission was forwarded to the incoming Cam III aircraft. Runways 5A and 6A were readied for the arrival of the diplomatic teams, as Foreign Minister Sun made his way to the private terminal.

At the respective gates, red carpet was unfurled leading to a wide courtyard rimmed with glass. A full honor guard of marines stood at attention with arms raised behind the Foreign Minister. Through the heavy ceiling to floor glass that faced out the the terminal, blinking red lights announced the arrival of both delegations.
